 Published artifacts should not depend on snapshot repos artifacts.

Well, I make only use of a view plugins yet, but if I grep through the POMs of
the maven plugins in my local repo, I have *a lot* of them referencing repos

Maven 2.04, Eclipse 3.1/WTP 1.0 combination?

2006-05-16 Thread Andreas Schildbach

Hello everyone,

I'd like to use Maven 2.04 together with the Servers view in Web Tools
Project 1.0 (alternatively Eclipse 3.2/WTP 1.5). The servers view allows
to start an application server or servlet container inside Eclipse,
allowing to debug easily.

Unfortunately, WTP expects all libraries in WEB-INF/lib, as defined by
the Servlet specification.

Mavens Eclipse-Plugin (which has basic WTP support) links all
dependencies directly from the local Maven repository. Can I tell the
plugin to copy all libs to WEB-INF/lib, or to somehow modify WTP
configuration to pull libraries from the repository?

Of course I can put my libraries to WEB-INF/lib by hand, but then the
dependency management feature of Maven is of no use to me.

Regards,

Andreas

Maven2 Testng - tests not run

2006-05-16 Thread Shabbir Kheriwala

Hi,

I am using testng and maven2. Here is what i am doing.

public abstract class MyTestCase extends TestCase
{
@Configuration(beforeTestMethod = true)
protected void setUp()
{ ... }

@Configuration(afterTestMethod = true)
protected void tearDown()
{ ... }

public static ArrayList getList()
{  }
}

public class MyClassUnderTest extends MyTestCase
{
@Configuration(beforeTestMethod = true)
protected void setUp()
{ super.setUp(); ... }

@Configuration(afterTestMethod = true)
protected void tearDown()
{ super.tearDown();... }

@Test
public final void testMethod1()
{
...//test Method 1
}

@Test
public final void testMethod2()
{
...//test Method 2
}
}

Now when i run the test it does not execute the test methods... this it
what i get

Running com.demo.MyClassUnderTest
*Tests run: 0*, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 0.015
sec
Results :
*Tests run: 0*, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0

 but it works fine when i run the test through the test suite
(pom.xml) ie...
suiteXmlFiles
suiteXmlFilesrc/test/java/testng.xml/suiteXmlFile
/suiteXmlFiles

Running com.demo.MyClassUnderTest
*Tests run: 2*, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 0.468
sec
Results :
*Tests run: 2*, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0

Please help me to figure-out why does the test not execute if i run it
without the suite.
Do i need to add an entry to the pom.xml

Thanx,

checkstyle plugin and propertyExpansion

2006-05-16 Thread Carsten Karkola
We have our own checkstyle config with some file referenzens. I tried
to use them with

groupIdorg.apache.maven.plugins/groupId
artifactIdmaven-checkstyle-plugin/artifactId
configuration
configLocation${basedir}/../../checks.xml/configLocation
  propertyExpansion
  header.regexp.file=${basedir}/../../header_regexp.txt
  /propertyExpansion
/configuration
  /plugin

this part of the pom is located in a supproject. Without the ${basedir} Maven
didn't find the
file header_regexp.txt if I call mvn site from the parent project. The
${basedir}-solution works
fine on Unix (AIX) but fails on windows, where the directory separator is
missed:

Embedded error: Error rendering Maven report: Failed during checkstyle
configuration

Re: Maven 2 Emma Plugin?

2006-05-16 Thread Jorg Heymans

We use emma as well and would be very interested in an m2 plugin for it.

I had some success by running emma through m2 as an ant-plugin, here is the
config :

 plugin
   groupIdorg.apache.maven.plugins/groupId
   artifactIdmaven-antrun-plugin/artifactId
   executions
 execution
   idemma-coverage-report/id
   phasetest-compile/phase
   configuration
 tasks
   taskdef resource=emma_ant.properties classpathref=
maven.plugin.classpath /
   emma enabled=true
 instr instrpathref=maven.test.classpath
mode=overwrite
metadatafile=target/emma/metadata.emma
   filter includes=com.*/
 /instr
   /emma
 junit fork=yes forkmode=perBatch
haltonfailure=no
 batchtest
todir=target/emma/junit-reports-ignore
   fileset
dir=target/emma/instrumented-classes
 include name=**/*Test*/
   /fileset
 /batchtest
   classpath
 pathelement path=maven.test.classpath/
 pathelement path=maven.plugin.classpath
/
   /classpath
 /junit
 /tasks
   /configuration
   goals
 goalrun/goal
   /goals
 /execution
   /executions
   dependencies
   dependency
 groupIdemma/groupId
 artifactIdemma/artifactId
 version2.0.5312/version
   /dependency
   dependency
 groupIdemma/groupId
 artifactIdemma_ant/artifactId
 version2.0.5312/version
   /dependency
   /dependencies
 /plugin

IIRC the instrumentation like this works fine, but I had problems getting
surefire to actually run the instrumented classes.

Re: maven, dependencies and eclipse wtp

2006-05-16 Thread Matthijs Wensveen
Okay... I got it to work. Great! I didn't realize that you should run
eclipse:eclipse every time a dependency is added to let it update the
.component file.

The only problem I have now, is when I use the m2eclipse plugin for
eclipse. After enabling the Maven2 nature for the project it complains
about duplicate entries.

I think I saw some mails on the list about this, so I'll check those first.

Thanks for your help,
Matthijs

Make sure the dependencies that should be bundled are described in

When I don't use the mergere m2eclipe plugin for eclipse, but only the

mvn -Dwtpversion=1.0 eclipse:eclipse

goal, the dependencies are added as
M2_REPO/commons-collections/commons-collections/2.0/commons-collections-2.0.jar

(for example). These are available in the war, but not when I run it on
a server from inside eclipse.

When I do use the m2eclipse plugin, the dependencies are added to the
Maven2 Dependencies classpath container, but are not available to the
webapp when I run it from inside eclipse. Again, they are added to the
war when I package the app with mvn package

Is there a way to add it to the configuration files manually? Somewhere
in the .settings directory maybe?

Matthijs

Re: Maven 2.04, Eclipse 3.1/WTP 1.0 combination?

Please, execute:
mvn -Dwtpversion=1.0 eclipse:eclipse
and you'll have what you're expecing - during building eclise
will be using jars from M2_REPO and not store them src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/lib.

After mvn call take a look at .settings/.component and/or J2EE Module
Dependecies to see how it works.

Hello,

Create a new packaging as it was made for developing netbeans modules using
maven.

For more information, just check the netbeans plugin at
mevenide.codehaus.org (in the source repository, you can find a mojos
subdirectory where that plugin is located)

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Is it possible to having some update concerning this ? (I have recorded
an issue [1]).
It's strange about breaking backward compatibility as this.
I wanted to upgrade version but as this [2] is not marked closed, I
don't have problem to stay with my old one.
But a simple documentation upgrade or comment on the issue will be
fantastic ;-)

Aggregate option for Javadoc and Source XRef

2006-05-16 Thread Julien Henry

Hi,

I'm trying to have the javadoc and source xref of the different modules
of my project linked together. I put :

plugin
groupIdorg.apache.maven.plugins/groupId
artifactIdmaven-javadoc-plugin/artifactId
configuration
aggregatetrue/aggregate
/configuration
/plugin
plugin
groupIdorg.codehaus.mojo/groupId
artifactIdjxr-maven-plugin/artifactId
configuration
aggregatetrue/aggregate
/configuration
/plugin

But I don't see the difference with aggregatetrue/aggregate.

I have another request : when I put the reports in the parent pom, the
generated site display empty pages for most of the reports, saying that
No project sources were found. As it's a project with modules, it
could be interesting to not display these reports on the main page, or
better to present a summary of each module report.

Use offline (-o in maven cli) (try mvn -h to see options).
Or configure an interval in the repo declaration in your settings or

Yeah, don't use it. All well-behaved webservers just return 404 NOT
FOUND when a page cannot be found - thus Maven knows that the resource
cannot be found on given repository. However, some stupid webservers
(such as planetmirror) returns a regular webpage that contains the Not
found text. Maven2 cannot know that the resource is not available and
uses that Not found page instead of any resource that it tries poll
from that repository. So, maven's local repository becomes corrupted and
full of Not found pages. You need to:
- remove all such resources (you need to check ALL files - .jar, .xml
etc), from Maven2 local repository,
- never use such repository again.

[m2] surefire classloading issue

2006-05-16 Thread Wim Deblauwe

Hi,

I'm using Maven 1, trying to migrate.

We are using Betwixt and some of our unit tests fail when run using
surefire, but run fine in IntelliJ or Maven 1. Betwixt looks for descriptors
with the name of the class + .betwixt to control how something is written
out in XML. It uses the construct: myClass.getResource() to find the
.betwixt file.

E.g. com.mycomp.MyClass - com/mycomp/MyClass.betwixt

We have a betwixt file for the java.util.Date class. However, betwixt seems
to be unable to pick it up when using surefire. I have created a small test
that shows the problem.

import junit.framework.TestCase;
import java.util.Date;
import java.net.URL;

public class CLTest extends TestCase
{
   public void testClassloading()
   {
   ClassLoader classLoader = getClass().getClassLoader();
   System.out.println( classLoader:  + classLoader );
   URL resource = getClass().getResource( /java/util/Date.betwixt );
   System.out.println( resource:  + resource );
   ClassLoader dateClassLoader = Date.class.getClassLoader();
   System.out.println( dateClassLoader:  + dateClassLoader );
   URL dateResource = Date.class.getResource( /java/util/Date.betwixt
);
   System.out.println( dateResource:  + dateResource );

   }
}

When running this class through IntelliJ, the output is:

classLoader: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
resource:
file:/C:/javatests/surefire-test/target/classes/java/util/Date.betwixt
dateClassLoader: null
dateResource:
file:/C:/javatests/surefire-test/target/classes/java/util/Date.betwixt

However, when using surefire, I get:

classLoader: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
resource:
file:/C:/javatests/surefire-test/target/classes/java/util/Date.betwixt
dateClassLoader: null
dateResource: null

any ideas?

regards,

Wim

properties in M2

2006-05-16 Thread anita kulshreshtha
Javed,
Thanks. This returns 'mykey' and all the other properties declared
in the parent pom (s). For example If I have -

parent pom.xml -
properties
one1/one
...
/properties
..

I want to get _only_ 'mykey' and not 'one' etc.

Thanks in Advance
Anita

To get properties in M2 try adding the properties tag in your POM :

properties
  mykeyvaluehere/myKey
/properties

You can refer to the
http://maven.apache.org/ref/2.0.3-SNAPSHOT/maven-model/maven.html#class_prerequisitesmodel

Hope that helps,
   Javed

assembly plugin: dependency wildcards

2006-05-16 Thread Martin Vysny
Hi,
  is there a way to use wildcards in include/exclude elements in
dependency sets? There is a feature requirement [1], not yet
implemented. I was wondering if new features in assembly plugin 2.1 [2]
and [3] may provide this functionality (maybe I can define a repository
with a set of version-aligned dependencies, and include a dependency on
this repository in the dependencySet element). Anybody tried it and/or
got it working?

You can't if its the first time you've run maven, anyone trying to
use maven for the first time can't get the proper plugins because its
looking for Snapshots on codehaus. Seems if your going to do a full
release of maven it would be wise to base it on full releases of the
plugins in the mirrors, or at least a full release of maven and/or
any plugin maintained and required by maven should be full released
and often, then this sort of thing wouldn't happen. Look at Eclipse
and the way they organize thier updates into integration, stable
and release builds.

For instance, EMF has a interim and stable update sites. This is one
of the reasons I really pushed to have separate snapshot and release
repositories at Apache, product stability.

p.s. there was a comment I should set up a mirror or something crazy
like that, it assumes I have some extensive knowledge of maven, which
at this point with maven 2 I don't. While I understand you guys do
allot of development and are focused on new features and bug fixes,
it makes your product look bad to have single points of failure like
this, I'm evaluating maven 2 for a project I'm now working on, this
doesn't bode well in my evaluation.

build changes problem continuum 1.0.3

2006-05-16 Thread Mattias Andersson
Hi,

I'm using continuum 1.0.3 (upgraded from 1.0.2) and the build change
output in the build results view does not display the correct changes. I
have two consecutive builds (a shell project using CVS as SCM) where I
have the same build changes?! It correctly detects that there are changes
so it triggers a build but the actual changes dsiplayed are wrong (same as
the last build) and contains no information about who made them. This used
to work in 1.0.2

Is this a know issue?

  Yeah, don't use it. All well-behaved webservers just return 404 NOTFOUND when a page cannot be found - thus Maven knows that the resourcecannot be found on given repository. However, some stupid webservers
(such as planetmirror) returns a regular webpage that contains the Notfound text. Maven2 cannot know that the resource is not available anduses that Not found page instead of any resource that it tries poll
from that repository. So, maven's local repository becomes corrupted andfull of Not found pages. You need to:- remove all such resources (you need to check ALL files - .jar, .xmletc), from Maven2 local repository,
- never use such repository again.

I guess it should be removed from documentation at
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-mirror-settings.html

mvn eclipse:plugin and project inheritance

2006-05-16 Thread Davis Ford

Hi, I have a parent pom.xml project in C:\someplace\pom.xml that has

modulemoduleA/module
modulemoduleB/module

Then I have

C:\someplace\moduleA\pom.xml
C:\someplace\moduleB\pom.xml

If I execute:

C:\someplace\mvn clean
C:\someplace\mvn compile
C:\someplace\mvn test

That works great for moduleA, moduleB

If I execute:

C:\someplace\moduleA\mvn eclipse:eclipse
C:\someplace\moduleB\mvn eclipse:eclipse

That works great to create eclipse projects for moduleA, moduleB

If I execute:

C:\someplace\mvn eclipse:eclipse

This causes a problem. If I refresh moduleA, moduleB projects in
eclipse after doing so, they complain about not finding the other
subprojects.

What is the best-practice here? Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks in advance,
Davis

Just figure out which plugin is the problem, then go into your

Then make sure you run with mvn -o until all the repos are back up, or
you'll just download it again and run into this again...

Profile activation

2006-05-16 Thread Roland Asmann
Hi,

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to have profiles activate each other and
how to do this?
The thing is that I have a certain 'default' profile and several extra profiles
that need one or
two extra modules and/or dependencies and/or plugins.
Now I know that I can use the command-line to activate multiple profiles, but
it would be nice
to tell a profile that it has sort of a 'dependency-profile' which it MUST
activate.

Any thoughts on this?

Problem installing parent POM

2006-05-16 Thread Bob Arnott

I'm having some problems building a multi module project. The
first module, XXX A Server API, builds fine and I can deploy
it into my repository.

The second module, XXX B Server API, wont build as it can't
find the parent POM in the repository. Why the first module
doesn't fail like this I don't know, maybe it's because the
second module has a dependency on the first...?

So I tried to deploy the parent POM, but get the following error:

Codehaus.org is currently down, so Maven can't resolve this dependency.
You can try to compile and install this dependency by hand:

svn co http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/doxia/tags/doxia-1.0-alpha-8

mvn install

Assuming you don't run in any other unresolvable dependencies, this
might work for you.

That's great...but...why leave the broken plug-in out there? Right now, if
someone wants to update their maven-findbugs-plugin, they are giong to look
at its web site, see 1.1 is the latest version, install it instantly be
broken. That's not much of a user experience. I still say the dependent
files need to be replaced or 1.1 needs to be removed.

Priority in Profiles

2006-05-16 Thread Roland Asmann
Hi,

How is the priority in the order of Profiles determined? I am running maven
with 4 activated profiles,
2 of them over the '-P' and the other 2 over the '-D' and property-activation.
2 of these Profiles (1 from the '-P' and 1 from the '-D') set properties for
the build. One of these
properties is set with a different value, depending on which profile sets it.
Now the question is, which
profile will set this property? And if I change something in my POM (e.g. the
order of the profiles) or
in the command (e.g. the order of the '-P' and '-D' or the order inside the
'-P'/ '-D'), will the value
remain the same as it was before or is the priority different somehow?

Re: [ANN] Maven Site Plugin 2.0 Beta 5 Released

2006-05-16 Thread Borut Bolčina

Brett Porter pravi:

The Maven team is pleased to announce the release of the Maven Site
Plugin, version 2.0-beta-5.

* [MSITE-104] - There is no way to specify the input encoding of site
documents

I was eagerly awaiting this feature. Thanks!

Writing documentation in UTF-8 works now, ... but menu items in
site.xml still don't work. XML prolog is clearly stating ?xml
version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? for site.xml. This is not even
neccessary, I think, as encoding is taken from

   plugin
   artifactIdmaven-site-plugin/artifactId
   version2.0-beta-5/version
   configuration
   inputEncodingUTF-8/inputEncoding
   outputEncodingUTF-8/outputEncoding
   /configuration
   /plugin

So, it works in apt, xdoc and fml, but not in site.xml.

Regards,
Borut

SNAPSHOT question

2006-05-16 Thread Davis Ford

Hi, if I have pom.xml for a project that has

version1.0-SNAPSHOT/version

and I do:

mvn deploy

It sends up a release with the timestamp in the 1.0-SNAPSHOT/ dir.

However, what if a developer wants to do a release, not a snapshot?

If I try

mvn -Dversion=1.2 deploy

It uploads a new SNAPSHOT with a timestamp into the 1.0-SNAPSHOT dir.

Is there some way to override this?

Dependency search engine?

2006-05-16 Thread Mark Diggory
Hi everyone, is there any effort to put together a dependency search
engine that would allow one to search the maven repository for a
particular dependency not knowing its group id or proper version to
use. For instance, I've been using Google with limited success.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=enlr=q=site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%

Seems as though there could be some very interesting statistics

Mark H. sounds like you fixed it before I sent the note. Does mvn
site work OK for you?

What error are you seeing?

Mark, I'd try removing your doxia directory inside your .m2 repository

you, I'm getting a different error, but the doxia code is coming down

Re: Doxia/site problems - FIXED

2006-05-16 Thread Mark Hansen
The error was that some dependency in my build process (not sure which
one) was requiring the doxia-1.0-alpha-8.pom and something else in my
.m2 repo was sending it looking at the codehaus repo
(http://snapshots.maven.codehaus.org/maven2) which is still down.
Whatever you did, now that my .m2 is refreshed, the download of
doxia-1.0-alpha-8.pom is now coming from someplace else (note the broken
codehaus server).

Hope that explanation helps somebody. I'm still a little clueless about
how these repos reference each other and when the local .m2 repo
refreshes stuff ...

Re: Dependency search engine?

2006-05-16 Thread Wayne Fay

Here are 2 such sites:
http://www.mvnregistry.com
http://mvnrepository.com

Also, if the artifact you're looking for is in your local m2 repo,
Jerome Lacoste posted a blog entry on how to search it for things:
http://www.coffeebreaks.org/blogs/?p=47

Hi everyone, is there any effort to put together a dependency search

Seems as though there could be some very interesting statistics

Re: SNAPSHOT question

2006-05-16 Thread Wayne Fay

You're looking for mvn release not deploy. Release will update the
version tags and install the artifact properly in the specified
repositories.

However its a little more complex than simply mvn release so check
out the m2 book (better builds with maven), the user list archive, the
maven website, etc for details.
