[VFB] FW: Comments from the Trip

2009-09-22 Thread Mark Romero

Here's a summury email...basically a wrap-up of the retreat we helped with
this past weekend. Below there are pics and video footage of the event. Btw,
the show they took us to see on Sat. night was, "The Number One Hits of the
Sixties." Just a bit corney, but it was fun, and i know the vets really
appriciated it.

A letter from John Richerson (helped with cooking and guiding on Lake Taneycomo)

Hi Rick,

I just came back from the DAV here in Springfield. I visited with Richard
(Rick) Polk the DAV Commander, and Ron the Treasurer, they still cannot put
into words how much they enjoyed the weekend of fishing. There are 10 vets
already that want to sign up for my fly tying class beginning in October. Rick
has sure been pushing the program. I don’t know if he is on a fishing high, or
just enjoyed watching the veterans that were with us go from withdrawn to
visiting with everyone.

We have opened up a whole new door for them. Rick said, “It had been along time
since he really got to let his guard down and just relax and enjoy.” Ron said,
“I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed everything.” This just goes to show
that I now have some really great new friends out of the fellowship we enjoyed
this weekend.

For me personally, I had a very enjoyable time and was glad that I finally was
able to help give back to Project Healing Waters. I am also living on a high
that I got from helping my fellow Veterans. It has been along time since I was
able to do anything for someone other than myself. I find myself really sore.
Now mind you, I have only moved from my recliner to the fridge the last few
days but, it is a great kind of hurt!

Thanks again for all that you have done here in this area! Keep up the great
work. Everyone appreciates all you do.

A letter from Sherry Henn, wife of an 875th Engineers, Arkansas

Rick,

I need a letter head so that I can give it to these donors. Getting started we
got a goal to reach and there isn't time to waste. Thanks for including me in
this wonderful program and I promise I will do all I can to help you get the
funding you need to keep up the wonderful work you are doing. The trip to
Brannson was awesome We loved it. I am getting phone calls on the fun raising
already so please get me a letter head as soon as possible and when you do the
trips i need to know how many usually go with a group so that I can start
making boxes with fly's for the next one and will have the one going to Iraq
sent to you with in a week.

Dear Project Healing Waters and friends,

We truly had a wonderful time and couldn't have done it without everyone's
help! The guys told me that they've never had such a great trip and Travis
Dulaney caught close to 50 fish in 2 days. I, myself, caught 10 fish, most of
which were over 16 inches and all Rainbow with the most beautiful colors. We
had a lot of family members there fishing with the guides and other family and
let me know just how much they really loved being there with the Veterans. One
in particular, Sherry Henn, has already started a fund raising push to help PHW
Southern Region continue our efforts! Below is a list of the guides that
helped out. Feel free to send them an e-mail anytime and thank t

love these stories Alan.keep it up..i've travelled
al over the world.but VERY little (one trip to Cnadaof it was for
fishing. Fished a LOT in the states...but somehow Alaska seems like a
forin' country (couldn't figure out how to spell it, LMAO),.

if someone was to offer me a all expense paid trip to anywhere in the world to
fish for a monthbut the catch was that it'd be the last time i could
ever go anywhere to fish.outta the country.no matter who paid. i'd take
Alaska in a N.Y. minute. That's the one place i REALLY wanna fish some
daymore than any other that is.

Gonna have to settle for Ireland next July for now. hehehehehe.

I actually hooked two Sockeye. Boy are they hard fighters. also snagged one.
That was fun but hard to get them off quickly.

I thought the big Rainbows fought hard till latched on to a Silver. I caught a
big male that had already turned red, and two other males that were just
starting to change.
The bucks are a lot stronger then the hens.

While we were there we saw a hugh Wolf. A bear that was about 50 feet from us
but only woke up whene a plane was landing or taking off. Then went back to
sleep.
After we took off I saw him come from where we were fileting the Salmon and he
had threee in his mouth and just looked up at us as were were taking off. Like
he was saying " It's about time you guys left me something to eat after waking
me up all day".

At the lodge the guides rig up your rods every day by making leaders and
setting up a bobber and a 6 or 8mm bead.
That worked all day every day, and the reason is they tell you there are so
many eggs floating down the rivers and that is all the trout key on.

The trip was the best fishing I have ever had despite loosing some big
rainbows. I also caught a lot of big 'bows.

This really sounds demeaning, but when you got an 18 or 20" rainbow on, it was
almost like you wish they would break off just so you have more time fighting
24 26 and 28" fish. I had fish break me off as i tried to lift my rod tip on
many occasions.
One big one on the Battle River took the egg and just expoded down stream and
all I could do was hold the rod up as high as I could. It was into the backing
in a flash and then SNAP. The knot at the fly line broke. Didn't untie, just
broke. The next day the pilot/guide saw a line way down stream and picked it
up. Lo and behold there was a fish on it. He tried to bring it in hand over
hand, but it broke him off to. It was my fly line from the day before.

I caught many 24 and 26 " rainbows and got to land a 29" on Sunday.
I was playing a rather large rainbow on Friday for about 20 minutes when we
finally got him into some slack water. The guide was just about to jump out and
net him when he decided he had enough of this silliness and turned and ran
away. We both got some very good looks at him and he was well over 30".

On Saturday we fished the Swezack River(not sure about the spelling) in Katmai
National Park for Silver Salmon. I thought big 'bows pulled hard. HA!!!
The second fish I fouled hooked in the tail..Holy Crap It was around
29-30" long and must have been extreemely agitated that I was pulling him the
oposite way he wanted to go because he did not give up easily. Could not land
him, but the guide did manage to get the hook out of his tail.

The fisrt day out I caught a 20" Grayling. The state record is 24" so I was
very gratified.

Got to see many many bears. They seemd better at catching fish then me and the
rest of the crew put together.
Thay could care less about us being 20-30 yards away. They just jumped right in
the river and started knawing on Sockeye. one bear jumped in right across the
river from me and chowed down a Sockeye, moved down about 30 yards and found
another to his liking and then moved down about 70 yards and ate that one also,
with out ever leaving the river. And he was in the swift current!!

[VFB] Re: Something different: Orvis/Old Mill Fly-Casting Course

2009-09-22 Thread Mark Romero

Thankx Wesyou hit the nail right on the head...and by the way, i
have no problem with "the industry" doing what it has to do to
survive...and to thrive for that matter. i just hate to see something as
precious and spititual as fly fishing.constantly being treated in such a
mundane way, as a sport.

Fly fishing, (just as is "the music") is ABOUT, "the messege." When and if you
hear certain people refere to "the music"...it is "the Messege" we are
refering to. i've spent my entire life involved with the same exact thing, from
within two worlds that are actually, one in the same. Jazz and fly
fishingboth, are "About" the same exact thing. THE MESSEGE. And it is
that, that needs exposure, attention, and sharing, so that more are inspired to
take up the challange to solve the problems we have in so many area of our
lives. Which brings us back to the subject at hand..young people. It is
SO true that we have a very serious problem with a very large lack of replacing
all the old farts like me with young blood. i do "Conclaves" all over the
country, and you see the same thing everywhere. The average age of an
attendee.is 50 something or older. That tells you all you need to know,
bout how we are not doin' our job as good as we should be doin' it. Something
is lacking in our ability to draw the yongsters to "the pursuit." And it's not
just that they are intimidate by how "good" you need to be to catch a lotta
fish. Or how expensive the "sport" is. There is something else missing. And i
believe it is enough of us to take the time to show them what is really
involved with fly fishing, BEYOND casting, reading water, presentation, knots,
etc., etc., etc..THAT'S where the problem lies. We're bombarding them
with information.all but the information they need to "understand" why
we fish. And trust me.it's NOT called fishing, because we don't call it
catching..you dig?

Interesting comments, Mark. Here's my take.

Obviously Orvis has built this elaborate fly-casting course to encourage rod
sales and interest in fly fishing in consumers. More power to the fly shops.
The Mill District which is the area the fly casting course is in, is a
restored, now commercial district, and they pitched in as well. We need money
behind the effort to keep interest in fly fishing alive.

Orvis is Orvis, and the Bend Orvis store has some very straight-on fly fishers
on the staff. The president of the Central Oregon Flyfishers works at the
store part-time. It's a very positive group of people, and it'd be fun to work
at the store, in that respect. There are also at least six flyshops in the
general area, and their survival depends on the commerce of fly fishing.

On another note, I wish I were closer to a group of fly fishers who are
basically young guys. I know they are out there, but the fly fishing clubs I
see are comprised of a lot of folks around or past retirement age. Sure a lot
of you have seen the same thing. We are not yet a dying breed.

So the challenge is how do you get young people interested in fly fishing? I
have tried mightily to interest my nephew (now age 16) in fly fishing. But we
are two hours flighttime apart from each other. He liked to fish when he was
younger, but the parents never got him out into the wilds much to wet a line.
There are a lot of young people out there in similar straits. If you don't
plant the tree when the ground is fertile, it's a lot harder to grow a tree.
For my nephew, the ground is getting less fertile by the day.

I feel (A.) you gotta get them out into the "wilds" and give them a nice
fishing experience. That's the hook. (B.) The hoped for result, is they start
to appreciate the natural beauty around them. And with soft guidance, they
start to preserve the flora and fauna that envelopes the fly fishing experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed Boy Scouts growing up in Colorado. Enjoyed a lot of stuff
that isn't like anything in the city. That alone created a deep appreciation of
nature, inside me. But how many kids you know these days, who are having a
similar experience? Not many. That's troubling. Gotta do something about that.

Your mileage may differ...

John, Whitefish was a rough one.attendance was at an all time low. Blame it
on gas prices...blame it on the bossa nova. Bottom line is blame, is not
the way to solve the problems. The way to solve the problems is to establish a
MUCH better line of communication between membership and administration.and
to insure transparency in decisions making.
First of all, it is very hard just to get voluinteers to step up to the plate
and take on the responsiblity of taking on the various jobs of making an event
of that magnitude succeed. And once they do.they very often do not want to
share decision making. That's understandable to a degree, but it must be done
in spite of the hassels that accompany it. Nobody knows all the answers, and
everyone has to be willing to listen to others opinions.
When an event such as Conclave is over.there needs to be IMMEDIATE meetings
to uncover problems and get set on a course of action to solve those problems.
This is much easier said than done. It is well known that a fresh point of view
and new imput is always needed to solve the burnout problem that always shows
up when someone has been doing the same job year after year after year. But, as
soon as you get fresh blood in there to take over, you also get inexperience.
So it's a bit of a catch 22.
The newest (or one of them) agreements made by the Tyers Group (which is now
100% responsible for the "tyers" part of the conclave), for instance, is to
have whoever is taking over the chairman's seat each time, stay on an extra
year to help the new chairman do his job to the best of his ability. And the
chairman of that committee is only going to be the chairman for a three year
period from now on.hopefully eliminating burnout. His first year, he or she
will have the help of the old chairman.then he will do two years on his own
and then help his replacement for a year. i think it's a good new idea.

I didn’t make the conclave this year due to family issues, but I WAS @ the
Conclave last year in Whitefish, MT. I thought it was very disorganized; had
issues w/ registration online that required multiple phone calls, Mike
volunteered for several things ahead of time but never received any
correspondence in spite of e-mails & phone calls, we had an on the water class
that not only had poor directions for the participants but the guides weren’t
informed of where, when or how many were going to be there until we showed up.
Volunteers for the silent auction were hit or miss & Lord only knows what the
live auction would have been like if I hadn’t been there. I understand what
non-profits & volunteer events are like, but I expected more.

Mark,
I think that the FFF Conclave was the worst organized event I've been to. I
was really disappointed in the lack of advertising they did for the conclave,
not every many of my friends knew about it until after it was over. My view is
based on the fact that I didn't know if I had been accepted to tie until the
Conclave was only a couple of weeks off.

I know of fellow tiers that wanted to tie and had contacted the tying
chairperson without getting a reply.

Jeff, i appreciate your concern.but you need to know how things are. I get

fighting for the FFF for years. I happen to have more than one VERY inside

Mark,
I think that the FFF Conclave was the worst organized event I've been to. I
was really disappointed in the lack of advertising they did for the conclave,
not every many of my friends knew about it until after it was over. My view is
based on the fact that I didn't know if I had been accepted to tie until the
Conclave was only a couple of weeks off.

I know of fellow tiers that wanted to tie and had contacted the tying
chairperson without getting a reply. In another instance, my friend was told
to show up and they'd see there was room. I saw many spaces left open.

We were told that the tiers could join the FFF for a reduced rate and when I
went to join up the two individuals manning the desk were busy talking to each
other and did not bother to wait on me. This happened twice. I used to think
that this was a well organized organization...not any more.

I have to agree w/ Mark for the most part. I used to fish in bass
tournaments, it was fun for a while. I've always been competitive & I still
am, even when fly fishing, but @ some point it gets to be something other
than fun. Some competitions are good for PR & raising money for
conservation, but when it gets to be an elitist event for people who want to
compare price tags, you can count me out.

[VFB] Re: Something different: Orvis/Old Mill Fly-Casting Course

2009-09-22 Thread Wes Wada
Interesting comments, Mark. Here's my take.
Obviously Orvis has built this elaborate fly-casting course to encourage rod
sales and interest in fly fishing in consumers. More power to the fly
shops. The Mill District which is the area the fly casting course is in, is
a restored, now commercial district, and they pitched in as well. We need
money behind the effort to keep interest in fly fishing alive.
Orvis is Orvis, and the Bend Orvis store has some very straight-on fly
fishers on the staff. The president of the Central Oregon Flyfishers works
at the store part-time. It's a very positive group of people, and it'd be
fun to work at the store, in that respect. There are also at least six
flyshops in the general area, and their survival depends on the commerce of
fly fishing.

On another note, I wish I were closer to a group of fly fishers who are
basically young guys. I know they are out there, but the fly fishing clubs I
see are comprised of a lot of folks around or past retirement age. Sure a
lot of you have seen the same thing. We are not yet a dying breed.

So the challenge is how do you get young people interested in fly fishing?
I have tried mightily to interest my nephew (now age 16) in fly fishing.
But we are two hours flighttime apart from each other. He liked to fish
when he was younger, but the parents never got him out into the wilds much
to wet a line. There are a lot of young people out there in similar
straits. If you don't plant the tree when the ground is fertile, it's a lot
harder to grow a tree. For my nephew, the ground is getting less fertile by
the day.

I feel (A.) you gotta get them out into the "wilds" and give them a nice
fishing experience. That's the hook. (B.) The hoped for result, is they
start to appreciate the natural beauty around them. And with soft guidance,
they start to preserve the flora and fauna that envelopes the fly fishing
experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed Boy Scouts growing up in Colorado. Enjoyed a lot of
stuff that isn't like anything in the city. That alone created a deep
appreciation of nature, inside me. But how many kids you know these days,
who are having a similar experience? Not many. That's troubling. Gotta do
something about that.

Your mileage may differ...

Are you located in Denver? If so would you be interested in coming to Fort

Alan, Tony.the Hackensack has been cleaned up and is not a bad river to
fish nowdays...definately has no more smell. It has it's own Riverkeeper,
and has been turned into quite a resource for anglers, and an economic windfall
for the area.

i love to stop in Bass Pro and or Cabelas as often as possible. One of my
favorite Cabelas is in Mitchell, South Dakota on I-90 on the way to Montana.
Great place to stop and rest for a while..usually after having left that
morning from somewhere just inside the Minnasota line comming from maybe
somewhere in Ohio the previous morning.i guess those days are over
though. Cause i'll prolly never head to Montana from N.Y. anymore.
The newest and biggest (to be) Cabelas is being built in the Meadowlands (N.J.)
complex, where the N.Y. Giants and N.Y. Jets play.

Tony and all:

I was not ably to use the Chili Demons or any of the 50 or 60 dz. flies that I
tied.

Good thing 'Fisherman' season wasn't open yet.LOL

I remember being on Rt 17 many times but just can't remember Ramsey's. At that

Alan, Tony.the Hackensack has been cleaned up and is not
a bad river to fish nowdays...definately has no more smell. It has it's own
Riverkeeper, and has been turned into quite a resource for anglers, and an
economic windfall for the area.

I will be doing this Thursday for the first time with friend Steve. It's an
18-"hole" deal.

Last weekend Orvis sponsored a Pro-Am tournament with a bunch of neat
prizes. I was not in town, so couldn't participate, but will at least check
it out on Thursday evening. I have seen a couple of the casting areas, but
never have seen or casted the entire course.

[VFB] FW: WHATS HAPPENING WITH THE FLY FISHING SHOWS, THE FLY TACKLE DEALERS SHOW (AFFTA) AND THE FFF

2009-09-22 Thread Mark Romero

Jeff, i appreciate your concern.but you need to know how things are. I get
emails like this one below al the time. And trust me, i have been
fighting for the FFF for years. I happen to have more than one VERY inside
track on the inner workings of what goes on behind the scenes of the FFF
National. I am a very serious supporter of the organization and have been for
many years.but, i also stand for something more than just standing by and
watching things go sour. Thank you very much. If you'd spent as much time as i
have doing FFF conclaves all over the country, you'd know how disenchanted many
members are.we ALL, need to do something about it. mark.now read
below.

Mark,
I think that the FFF Conclave was the worst organized event I've been to. I
was really disappointed in the lack of advertising they did for the conclave,
not every many of my friends knew about it until after it was over. My view is
based on the fact that I didn't know if I had been accepted to tie until the
Conclave was only a couple of weeks off.

I think they are a
bunch of "Rich Good Ole Boys" and am not interested in being a part of the FFF.

On a personal note, I was very interested in your tying demonstration. I
really did enjoy meeting and viewing several of the fly tiers. I was saddened
to hear of Matt's passing, I was looking forward to developing a friendship
with him.

Are you located in Denver? If so would you be interested in coming to Fort
Collins to do a tying demo at Angler's Roost. Please let me know either way.

Best regards,
Rick Takahashi

Mark, I would encourage you to take a deep breath and gather some facts on the
FFF deal and then proceed with the sharing of opinions.

Alan, Tony.the Hackensack has been cleaned up and is not a bad river to
fish nowdays...definately has no more smell. It has it's own Riverkeeper,
and has been turned into quite a resource for anglers, and an economic windfall
for the area.

I used to hunt wild fowl and rabbits in the Meadowlands when we used to call it
" Secaucus Swamp"

There was a pig farm close by and the smell would just about know you over.

i love to stop in Bass Pro and or Cabelas as often as possible. One of my
favorite Cabelas is in Mitchell, South Dakota on I-90 on the way to Montana.
Jets play.

money and an expense account, for a number of years, to basically do nothing to
get the organization out of it's financial situation. We hope that a very
serious lesson was learned by the FFF about hiring someone to do a job and
paying them an absorbatant amount of money to get it done, only to watch it all
squandered with no results. That type of behavior is exactly what will loose
the organization membership, ten-fold. People are not stupid, and they do not
like being taken advantage of. They want to help the resource and the habitat
thereof.not support CEO's that fly all over the country at the memberships
expense to play golf, or take their wives shopping. Which is not to say that
that is what was happening.but from the things you hear on the
grapevine.one begins to think that anything is possible. Do not
misunderstand, all i am saying is that we need to be MUCH more prudent as to
where are money is going and how it is being spent. Yes, OUR money. If the FFF
is to grown and prosper, it needs to be held to a much higher standard and made
to be held accountable. Not for profits have a way of getting out of control at
times, by putting the needs of it's board before the needs of the cause for
which they stand. The office staff and administrative people must be paid. But
i wouldnt mind seeing an all volunteer board at all. Or perhaps a board made up
of those who would actually be required to pay, to be on the board. That, just
might keep the playing field even. Just my two cents.

Alan, Tony.the Hackensack has been cleaned up and is not a bad river to
fish nowdays...definately has no more smell. It has it's own Riverkeeper,
and has been turned into quite a resource for anglers, and an economic windfall

i love to stop in Bass Pro and or Cabelas as often as possible. One of my

Great place to stop and rest for a while..usually after having left that

I know the place real well, used to hunt there myself. As for the smell, I
learned to fly on the Hakansack River in seaplanes. Our flying practice area
was in that pig farm area, the smell came all the way up to 2000 feet.

[VFB] Re: Duh, what do you call this thing?

2009-09-22 Thread Anthony Spezio
I know the place real well, used to hunt there myself. As for the smell, I
learned to fly on the Hakansack River in seaplanes. Our flying practice area
was in that pig farm area, the smell came all the way up to 2000 feet.

[VFB] Re: I'm back

2009-09-22 Thread Michael Bliss
Alan,

I would go with - "nice story" but I have had similar experience there and
in NZ. I learned to keep the drag very light. But it sure makes the heart
beat fast to see a fish like that on your line. I did manage to land a
couple. Wish I had been with you up there. I love Alaska.

[VFB] Re: I'm back

2009-09-22 Thread Mark Romero

Yup, that's tricky business.i usually screw it up myself..just
being able to completely do NOTHING and let a REALLY BIG fish just GO! Your
brain is so trained to do "something." And that's a huge mistake when dealin'
with a really big fish. You should do nothing..NOTHING at
allcept maybe to keep a bit of straight line connection.without
slack and that's it. But to simply let 'em run is not an easy thing to
dowe always seem to want to do something to retrieve the fish.and
those big boys will bust you off in a split second. i've lost countless fish
because i got to excited and didn't remember to just let that first run GO!

Glad to see that you are now able to post directly to the list.

Biggest rainbow that I got to within 15 ft. of the boat was well over 30".

Had at leat 8 or 10 that took the egg and kept running. Never saw them and
broke off almost immediately,

Had several that I played for a few minutes and broke off.

Well, if your gonna visit Tony and fish below the dam..just give us a
call...we live 5 minutes from the dam and i'll show you where some real
nice "spots" are. If the water is offyou can very easily have a 50 fish
day and many double that. It's been fishin' incredable when the water is off. i
can also take you to a place called Cane Island, or we could go to Roundhouse
or Wildcat or Rim Shoals or The Park Water in Cotter or The Junction or go fish
the Northfork.whatever you wanna do. Email me for phone numbers if you
need 'em.

We usually go down there on a Wed or Thurs & stay until Monday. Friday evenings
& Saturday during the day are bad in terms of people, so we go early & take
long breaks late morning & early afternoon. Last year the water was so high we
could only wade early in the morning & @ night, so people weren’t as much of an
issue, & if you’re drifting, you only have to worry about the boneheads w/ big
motors or the jet boats.
Lilly’s is a nice place & the shop is nice, but we stay in Branson in the
spring because that’s where the women’s basket weaving convention is. We met
the River Run people wandering the old downtown before they moved out by the
dam & have been going there ever since. I’ve been hoping to visit Tony this
fall & do the White below Bull Shoals, but if that doesn’t work, let me know
when you’ll be in Branson & if I can help I will.

Joyce, i'm pretty sure i know who your refering to as "a new supplier" and i
have to agree that the stuff (hackle) is garbage, to a large degree. If i'm
right bout who (company) your refering to.Misa and i are on their Pro Team.
They make GREAT dubbings and chenilles and have a real nice MoHair product, and
other good stuff...but they've got a long way to go with their hackle. And
i have told them this over and over...seems it's just a very small family
business. They signed us up and quite a few others at the show in Idaho Falls
two years ago. Sent us a ton of stuff and a shirt.but never really stay in
touch that well. The guy in charge of the team left and went to work for Bass
Pro. So i think the company is floundering or on hard times...very nice
people, but they need to learn some about genetic hackle. The Marabou they sent
was also terrible in terms of the dye comming off on your hands. So they told
us they'd be working on solving that problem...but i really don't know.
We've got a chance to join the Whiting team this fall.so i guess we'll see
how that goes. The other company does make some real nice stuff though. And
their saddles can be used for fishin' fliesdepending. There's a certain
degree of twist in much of it. But it's still usable for saltwater flies, Pike
flies and streamers.

2009-09-22 Thread Mark Romero

i love to stop in Bass Pro and or Cabelas as often as possible. One of my
favorite Cabelas is in Mitchell, South Dakota on I-90 on the way to Montana.

Jets play.

They've had the place for 26 years.

back, i couldn't believe these damn trout..they like pet
fish.i was in this one spot for bout 40 minutes, and three of them
were within an inch of my feet.just hangin' out waitin' to eat every
time i moved my feet..one of the three was definately over 20 inches.
it's "redickalus" how tame they arewe caught a LOT of fish.
the entire event was GREAT. We had 10 vets.just about as many
guides.and my pal Jereny Hunt was one of them. He's a great guide. The
place we stayed, Lilly's Landing was REAL nice and the same for all the
people who worked there. They fed us til we couldn't walk, thregreat guide.

day.and Wapsi donated a vise, tools, threads & wires, a book and hooks
to each vet, plus they got a rod and reel with line and leader from some
generous companies.these guys had the time of their lives.and

I live about an hour's drive from the Cabela's store in Prairie Du Chein,
WI. It's not one of their biggest
stores, but it is part of one of Cabela's distribution centers. So if
you've seen something in one of their
catalogs and don't see it in the store just ask for it to be retrieved from
the warehouses. Usually takes
20 to 30 minutes. Which is way less time than I spend in the store. It's
a beautiful drive is along the
Mississippi river where we always see lots of wildlife, mostly waterfowl
and several eagles. Now that
I think about it, I should be going there more often. LOL

Wes, i've been to i think, every Bass Pro store in the country..but the
one here in Springflield (2 hours from us) is the biggest. That's their
home base. The closeout/discount store next door is as big as some of their
regular stores. The have another store in Branson (where we were all this
weekend), but it's not as big. Those two stores are just a half hour away
from eachother.
But, if you think Bass Pro is bigyou should check out Cabela's.
