It's funny how they use QUicktime and there's
no M$ branding on the site, that's really un
microsoft like... I bet 10$ they'll switch to
WMV within 6 months... they must be far under the radar..

Um, nope, we have support going all the way to the top of the company. This
is VERY visible inside Microsoft. I'll try to get the other stuff fixed that
was brought up on this thread.

[videoblogging] question about updating my feed

2006-03-23 Thread greg
greetings all,
well i've got a feed up and running via Feedburner, and soon i'm
ready to add another video clip.
one thing i'm not quite clear on is whether or not i need to update
anything so that the new clip becomes part of the feed?
is this done automatically the next time the feed is pinged?
i know RSS is supposed to be really simple syndication, but this is
one very obvious question that my preliminary searches haven't found
an answer to.
and then next question, what about this feed in regards to iTunes?
i noticed that some of the fields like description and i for info
are a little bit off. i'd like to fix these manually, but they use
the same feedburner feed. should i copy the feedburner feed text and
then manually alter it to my liking... and then put it up on my own
server (in the same folder as the enclosure files) as a text document
and then point iTunes there instead, or can one feed handle both
needs ideally?
i know i have a little experimenting ahead of me,
but thanks much for any shortcuts!
cheers,
greg

[videoblogging] Re: question about updating my feed

2006-03-23 Thread Bill Streeter
The simple answer is everything is automatic. If everything is
working properly on your blog, everytime you post your feed will be
updated.

Feedburner has a title/description burner where you can alter these
things on your feed. Also make sure that you have filled out the
SmartCast settings in feedburner too. Sometimes iTunes takes a few
days to update these things but if it's correct in feedburner then
it will be correct in itunes eventually. It's probably a good idea
to keep everything pointing at feedburner for a lot of different
reasons one of which is that it makes it easy if you ever change
your hosting situation.

Adding your feed to http://mefeedia.com/ is a good way to get some exposure.

There are several tools to promote your videoblog there:
1. Instant Archive.
2. 1-click subscribe button.

Once you add your feed, go to the feed details page and click on the
'Promote this videoblog' link.

Was the streaming option stuff mentioned? You can encode your

play until they've loaded 100%, which makes it look like the page just

the iTMS podcast directory).

I've also seen people use two buttons - one for mac and one for pc.
That seems redundant.

Anyways, I'm interested in hearing the justification for all these
various linking methods. Which works best?

 Hello,

(I'm not really an iTunes person, but)

I've noticed that you can do a one-click subscribe with iTunes using
either
the itms protocol or the pcast protocol. My question is, what's the
difference between these? They both seem to do exactly the same
thing. I.e.,
both of the following URL seem to do the same:

 itms://example.com/feed

 pcast://example.com/feed

Is one preferred over the over?

 Comments are my heroin.

Ha ha, he he. That is so true. I get totally excited when someone
takes the time to leave a comment on my vlog. It makes me feel like
I've made a connection and been heard.

Some folks would go as far as to say that comments are part of what
distinguishes a videoblog from just a podcast. :)

 Hey all,

If there is anyone in NYC area with a decent 3 chip cam that they

[videoblogging] Taking care of business

2006-03-23 Thread Susan
The last time I posted, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to
attend vloggercon because of work.

I talked with my boss, and we worked this out; My work window is from
8am Thursday to 8am Saturday (48 hours) and he said I can leave after
that. I booked a 10:30am nonstop flight from Newark to San Francisco
on Saturday morning; I'll be arriving about 2pm. So I won't be there
the whole day, but I'll at least be there, and I'll be there all day
Sunday. Also, my flight was Continental--and it gave me about $20 a
night off a room at the Mosser.

My name's Susan Kirkpatrick, and I'M GOING TO VLOGGERCON!!!

[videoblogging] Books About Videoblogging

2006-03-23 Thread Gena
Just trying to plow through my studies when I took a side road out of
curiosity. I have student access to Bowker's Books In Print so I
entered video blogging to find out what the new titles are in the pipe
line. I'm not making any recommendations or intending to stirring up
old history. This is for information/reference only.

Video Blogging by Jay Dedman, Joshua Kinsburg and Joshua Paul $24.99
0-470-03788-1 Publication date July 2006 [I don't understand, was
the book cancelled and then re-instated?]

Secrets of Video Blogging Diana Weynand, Ryanne Hodson, Michael Verdi,
Shirley Craig $24.99 ISBN 0-321-42917-6 Publication date April 2006

Hands-on Guide to Video Blogging and Podcasting Damien Stolarz and
Lionel Felix $34.95 ISBN 0-240-80831-2

Videoblogging for Dummies by S.C. Bryant $24.99 ISBN 0-471-97177-4
Publication date June of 2006.

The ISBN number is the sure fire way to have the bookstore order the
book if they don't have it in stock.

See you at VloggerCon (I hope)

2006-03-23 Thread Gena
Meow kid! That's great! I've been weaving back and forth about going
but I think I'm gonna get off the grind and just do it.

I want to do a presentation but I can't seem to settle on a topic that
won't put people into the sleep zone. I'll gnaw on that bone for a
while but let's do this, let's bust out of L7 and commune.

See you there.
