2002-03-27 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

Come on now. . . .
and this is OT enough.

I agree here with Mart, Mark, Darren Paul... OT is OT. If
someone has a story about how their '57 Chevy is the same, exact
colour as their IIci that has been sitting in a smoke filled room for
the past 10 years... That's an amusing anecdote may be fun for a
short thread... But... The list footer? The list is what the list
is.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen an advertisement
or long list footer, other than when someone doesn't snip it in their
response. I'll scroll down until I see a sig line with no in
front of it.
If I needed to unsubscribe or switch to digest mode didn't know
how, I'd scroll down further.

So... What's the prob' Rob? Most ISP's today won't even support a
modem that can't handle the bandwidth of downloading the list footer
in a fraction of a second.

Re: monitor cable questions

2002-03-27 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

Janet wrote:
...I am stopped in my tracks by the gaping
realization that this creature has no cord!
there at the back, where all my others have their own attached cords
coming out, sits a VGA sized female dongle, three rows of 5 holes,
staggered, mini D, and not a cord in the house to connect it.

Any generic Pee Cee HD-15 - HD-15 cable will do the trick for you there.

I look at my adapter. great. mac male on one side, female VGA on the
other.

That's standard.

unless my females are lesbians, these two can't mate and produce
beautiful visions together.
snip
did apple make a monitor that was meant to run off a PC connection?

Ever since multi-sync monitors were invented, it's been possible to
run Mac monitors on a Pee Cee vice versa. The only thing necessary
is a DB-15 - HD-15 (or vice versa) adapter.
In between cables will tend to be male - male. Hence, the female
connector on your monitor the female connector on your video card
(and corresponding adapter) No prob... These are *standard* parts.

the Packard Bell and the Daewoo each have the same pin out male VGA
plugs: 3 rows of 5 each, top row complete, second row missing pin #4,
bottom row missing pin #2 and #5.

Unless the pins are broken off, don't worry about them. The
companies' number crunchers figured out somewhere along the line,
that if they left unused pins out of the connector, they would save a
few pennies/1000 monitors along the line.
(makes you wonder how much the number cruncher is being paid to
calculate the minute savings... And, if companies should have number
crunchers for the number crunchers to determine if their salaries are
worth saving a few pounds of brass/million monitors.)

the sony CPD-1604S was the same in that it was missing pin #4 in the
second row of 5, but missing pins #2 and 3 as well as #5 on the bottom
row.
The IBM was likewise missing pin #4 in the second row. but every other
pin out was there.

Again, don't worry about it. I don't have my VGA pinout diagrams
handy. But, I would say, these are monitor sense pins. When certain
pins are connected to ground, this tells the display card what the
monitor's capabilities are. If there is no need to connect a
particular pin to ground, the manufacturer will simply not include
the pin. (a few cents/1000 monitors)

so my question now, is--
of the VGA monitors, is the IBM likely to be full color? and the the
other VGA's black and white?

They're likely all colour. Depending on the age, some may be
multi-sync, some may be fixed screen size. Up until a few years ago,
there was a fairly consistent rule... If the rear portion of a VGA
monitor was flat on top, it was multi-sync. If the rear portion was
sloped, it was fixed.

If a monitor is multi-sync, it will most likely work on a Mac with
a DB-15 - HD-15 adaptor. If it's fixed, you'll need a Mac video card
that will handle VGA 60 hz. refresh rate... The Radius Precision
Colour card comes to mind. But, that's only an 8 bit card.

why does my multiscan 15 have a female VGA dongle, instead of an
attached cord coming out of the back, and what do i look for in cabling,
to use it on a 24 bit color video card in my IIfx's? did I get the wrong
adapter? or can I still work with the one I picked up?

See above. Any generic VGA cable will work with the adapter you have.

Andrew

2002-03-26 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

pickle wrote:
There are such things as 24-bit greyscale? I always thought most stuff
just used 8-bit for greyscale.

Yes. 8 bit greyscale is standard. Even a 24 bit video card will
not use more than 8 bits for greyscale. 8 bit is all that's necessary
for 256 shades of grey, since the video card will simply fire all 3
guns (red, green blue) at the same level.
24 bit colour still uses 256 levels. But, it uses 8 bits for the
red gun, 8 for the green 8 for the blue. (256 X 256 X 256 =
16.something million)
16 bit colour uses only 64 levels of fire for each gun. Though a 16
bit card will switch to 256 levels (8 bit) when in greyscale mode.

There may be some professional video cards for video and/or
graphic arts work that will use more than 256 levels. But, they're
not consumer products you'd pay $$$ through the nose for them.

256 shades is quite subtle. Using PhotoShop, set the background
colour to red=128, green=128, blue=128. then create a new picture
with that as the background. Then set your foreground colour to
red=129, green=129, blue=129. Take your pencil or brush draw a
picture or pattern... Save the picture, then set it as a desktop on a
machine with 24 bit colour... See if you can see your pattern?

It would be nice. But, if someone is going to develop a card

NuBus-USB idea.

A few things we've already established:
1. A USB controller chip has already been developed that could be
fitted into a NuBus card.
2. pickle has named a few companies as possible candidates for an
email campaign.
3. Several folks have expressed interest in a NuBus-USB card.

Questions:
1. Has anyone contacted tech support for any companies recently? And,
if so, how friendly is the particular company about providing support
for older machines?

Since the controller chip has already been developed, this is a VERY
REAL possibility. We just need to pick a company GO!

If everyone writes their own letter, it will have much more of an
impact than if someone compiles a letter everyone just stamps their
name in the signature space forwards it.

hard drive can supply a CD-R drive with a 1x write speed.

Most definitely! Even the slowest of slow hard drives...

I do most of my burning on a PM7100 with a Yamaha 6X burner. I set
Toast to use a 64 Meg RAM buffer. It doesn't take long for a 5400 RPM
drive to fill the RAM buffer... Almost exactly 1 minute before the
burn is complete, the hard drive stops flickering... Everything after
that is out of the buffer.
Doing the math here... 64 Meg / 6X = 10.666... Meg per minute.
10.666... Meg / 60 = .1777... Meg per second. You'd have to look
awful hard to find a hard drive that slow!

1X refers to audio speed. Digital audio is approximately 41 Khz
(41,000 / second) sample rate. 41 K * 2 (16 bit bytes for audio) = 82
K. 82 K * 2 (stereo) = 164 K... 164 K ~ .1777... Meg - Pretty close
there. (given that a K is not exactly 1,000)

It would seem that the only bottleneck (until ultra-fast,
giga-flop burners hit the market) would be the burner itself, not the
hard drive, SCSI bus, or the computer.

needs that source, contact me off list. (folks who have inquired
about The Site can understand the reasoning)

I use a G4 for most of my work which unfortunately has no disk drive so
getting things put on to floppy can be difficult. I do have a SCSI card and
an external drive that I can connect to both my G4 and Color Mac Classic.
Is it possible to format the external drive, download an Operating System
image to it, then startup the C.M.C. using the external drive as a startup
disk?

Sure! You can download disk images, mount them on your G4 and
install whatever early OS you want on an external drive. Using
Custom Install, specify the Colour Classic and away you go... Copy
all the disk images to the external drive you can mount them on the
CC and proceed from there... Try doing that on a DOS box!

If you need a means of mounting the disk images, once you get the
hard drive physically transferred from the G4 to the CC, contact me
off list for a URL to The Site. ShrinkWrap works just fine for that!

Yes. I think what I need is the download cache. If anyone saved
that when updating to QT Pro 3. Clicking on the Update to QuickTime

I don't recall if QT 3 worked the same a QT 4... In 4, if you have

work from the cache, rather than logging onto the QT website.

On the subject of QT... What is the fastest (least frame skipping)

Re: Clearing out unused extra memory after closing IE 4.01 and/orOE 4.01

2001-10-17 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

  Folks,

I notice that approximately 5MB or so of RAM
does not clear out after I use IE 4.01 and/or OE 4.01. My Performa 550 has
36MB RAM, and should have about 28MB to 31MB RAM free, depending on how much
MacOS 7.5.5 uses at a given time. 32 bit addressing is on, virtual memory
and the RAM disk are off, and the disk cache is 1MB. How can I clear out the
extra unused RAM every time I close IE4 and OE4? Any help is appreciated.

You could try Mac OS Purge. It's a handy little utility for
freeing up memory that programs often don't fully release. It's
available on The Site. Email me off list for the URL if you don't
already have it.

Re: floppy cleaning?

2001-09-27 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

Hey gang,
Is there such a thing as a floppy drive cleaning kit, one that actually
does a good job? Blowing/vacumming out the worst of the dust bunnies
hasn't restored this old LC floppy to full operating condition.

I've got a floppy cleaner that I got from Ratty Shack many years
ago. I don't know if they still carry them. Essentially, it's a 3
1/2 floppy case with no dust flap. Instead of a magnetic disk, it
has sort of a stiff cloth disk.
Just put a few drops of cleaning fluid on the cloth disk pop it in
the drive it cleans the heads.

If they no longer sell them, try to locate a Scotch (3M) floppy.
Pop in in your drive, then write and read back a floppy full of data.
It'll clean your heads. Scotch uses a very abrasive emulsion for
their magnetic recording products... Same thing for cassettes video
tapes. Just pop in a Scotch video tape with a movie already recorded
on it and watch the picture slowly emerge from the static.

Have you tried a different keyboard and keyboard cable?

A couple years back on the PowerMacs list (before it was divided

on others that would repeatedly turn themselves back on...
The PM7100, IIcx IIci all use the same power supply and
soft-power button on the keyboard.

Anyway, IIRC, one person found that a defective keyboard cable was
causing his unusual power problems. Another had replaced his keyboard
and the problem cleared up.

It seems unlikely. But, try a different mouse too. Since the IIcx
is soft-power, anything plugged into the ADB *could* be causing
improper signals to be sent to the power supply.

Also, if you plug a digital clock into the same power strip where
your IIcx is plugged in... This would give you an indication if there
are short power outs while you're gone... The clock display will be
flashing.

If 4.3 is 68k compatible, I'll post the upgrade on The Site.

Also, the surge current from an industrial strength vacuum could
cause just enough of a momentary power drop to shut the IIcx down.

I also noticed that they have nothing on their site whatsoever, that

While I'm at it. I have the 4.3 updater. But, that's PPC only.
Does anyone have a copy of the 4.2 updater they could send me, or a

I'll be doing that later tonight. I'll also take down VirtualPC

Same URL as the SplitzJoins utility.

Yes. According to my dictionary, Heathen means anyone who hasn't

Islam.

So, Heathen would include anyone who has no Religion (for whatever
reason) As well as anyone who has chosen any of the other Religions,
Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, Shinto, etc.

Thus: A statement like, Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Heathen

that would allow this to work.

The II series Macs (IIci, IIsi) use sync on green video. Pee Cee

adapters that will work.
However, Griffin Technologies makes a II series adapter for just
that purpose. It's a single function, single resolution (640X480)
adapter. I've got one on my IIci. It's molded plastic. So, I can't
open it up see what's inside. Maybe just a capacitor bridging
across from the green signal to the monitor's sync pin(s).

Re: what monitor sizes?

2001-09-20 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

making for BIG low-res icons) the second answer was correct if
you are talking about monitor _resolution_.

Just a point of clarification on this... In the Mac world, monitor
size means the physical size of the monitor. ie. 15, 17, 21, etc.
Screen size means number of pixels high/wide. ie. 640X480, 832X624,
1024X768, etc. Resolution means, dots per inch, or, pixels per
inch. Screen resolution is generally presumed to be 72 ppi.

It almost sounds like a paradox... If you have a multi-sync
monitor and set it to a larger screen size, everything on the screen
gets smaller, and, vice-versa.

In the Pee Cee world, the term Resolution means the same thing
as Screen Size in the Mac world. It also means picture size when
referring to a .jpg, .gif, etc.

Have you ever downloaded, say, a 640X480 picture from the web,
loaded it up in GraphicsConverter, or, put it in your slide show
folder for After Dark, only to find the picture displayed as a little
thumbnail?

The picture was probably saved in a Pee Cee graphics program.
The Pee Cee program defines the picture as being 640X480 resolution.
The Mac looks at the first number when determining the resolution
(640), then says, If the resolution is 640 (dpi) and the picture is
640 pixels wide, that should be displayed 1 wide.

It could also be a Mac user who scanned the picture at, say, 600
dpi never bothered to change the resolution to 72 dpi for screen
display.

Of course, that part of the story was deliberately left out of

If the United States' military was as weak as the Islamic nations'

Cowardly it was not!

Every nation has the right to protect her citizens.

Absolutely! But, the greater part of protecting her citizens

And, how does seeking revenge protect anyone? Will it bring back
the lives that were lost? Absolutely not! It will only create more
death and destruction... Leaving the Islamic people feeling justified

I speak the professional opinion of a skilled warrior. I'm

The US setting up a naval blockade was a good thing.

Good, bad, or, indifferent... The point is, The attack on Pearl
Harbor was not unprovoked. Nor was it unexpected.

What??? Are you mad?

No... Are you? If the attack on Pearl Harbor were entirely
unprovoked, the U.S. would have been fully justified in retaliating.
Seeking revenge against someone whom you provoked in the first place
is just plain ludicrous! If you can't see the logic in that, maybe we
should test your theory. How about if I start messing with your
house, your family, your job, your Mac... Until you finally get mad
enough to punch me in the nose... Then I break your legs in
retaliation... Because, after all... You started it by hitting me!

Kamikazi's are always cowards. Everybody who does suicide is a coward.

2 very different acts! Suicide Bombing is a hideous misuse of
the word Suicide. Suicide is a very selfish, cowardly act. In
suicide, a person is looking for the easy way out of their suffering,
often trying to hurt their family and friends, whom they believe
don't care.
In a Suicide Bombing one is willing to give his own life for a
cause he strongly believes in. Also believing that his actions will
make life somehow better for his friends and family.

Absolutely! But, the greater part of protecting her citizens

U.S. has failed miserably!

There will always people that will try to harm other people, provoked or
unprovoked. The only failure of the US was to have neglected their
Intelligence services.

True! But, not on such a massive scale. And, certainly not against
a world super-power... Unless they've been outright provoked to the
point where they simply refuse to take it anymore... Where they feel
they have nothing left to loose.
That is one mistake people have repeatedly made since the dawn of
time... whether we're talking international, national, or even,
personal... NEVER LEAVE A MAN WITH NOTHING LEFT TO LOOSE! Or, even
feeling like he has nothing left to loose.

That's protecting the
  citizens?

No, but the Muslim fundamentalists need to be stopped, just like the Nazi's
and the Japanees in the Second World War.

2 entirely different animals! The Nazis Japanese were out to
conquer the world. The Muslims are just trying to be left alone, by
the U.S. by Isreal. Folks who are trying to conquer the world will
fight until their military has been reduced to the point where it is
no longer feasible. Then they will surrender. Folks who are fighting
for their Rights, Freedom and Liberty, will fight until the last baby
is shot dead, while flinging a diaper full of poop at the U.S.
soldiers who killed his mommy daddy.
It's a never ending campaign... Kill bin Laden. Another will rise
up take his place. That will continue until every last Muslim is
dead... That's over a billion people! If the U.S. were to slaughter
over a billion people... I guarantee, folks of all Religions would be
outraged. You'd see Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists
and everyone else rising up, one by one to take bin Laden's place...
Until every last Human on Earth is dead.

  The fundamentalists have proven
they do not value human life at all.

They value Life far more than you can imagine. The willingness to
sacrifice a few for the betterment of the many is a concept that is
entirely beyond Western comprehension. That's why we come up with
such idiotic terms as, Suicide Bombing.

I'm affraid most of the Muslim/Arabic
population support their act against the civilized and free world.

Huh? The United States has more laws on its books than any other
country in the history of civilization. The United States has a
higher percentage of its population in prison than any other country
in the history of civilization. Every single Right guaranteed by the
United States Constitution has been systematically removed, by
unchallenged precedent. Free World?
Those folks didn't strike out against Freedom, or, Civilization.
They struck out against oppression of the Islamic people by the
Western world. If you can't see that, it's time to perform an
anal-craniectomy take a good, long look at what the Western world
has done in the Middle East and other Islamic nations over the past
several decades!

There is an Arabic/Muslim minority here in Europe. And those people were
celebrating and happy because of the Attack in the U.S.
The bombing of New York and Washington on the 11th September 2001 caused
not only the death of thousand but also the illusion of a peacefull

I tried not to get into this but the above was too hard to ignore. The above
quote is absolutely repugnant and disgusting and utterly unfathomable. That
anyone could even think that in the wake of the events of this past week is
sickening. Think of anyone in the four planes, like the Flight Attendents
who were killed with box cutters to get the pilots to come out of the
cockpit, or the people who had the courage to fight the highjackers and down
that plane knowing they were headed for certain death.

Thank you. You just illustrated the above point... It's
unfathomable! Chris, I feel you're letting your emotions overrun your
intellect. There is nothing contained in the above statement that
says it is not a gruesome thing, for a stewardess to be cut up with
box cutters, butcher knives, scalpels, or anything else. It is merely
a statement of fact... To many Moslems, to sacrifice themselves, and
a few (hundred, thousand... doesn't matter) others, to further what
they believe is a Righteous Cause... It's all in a day's work.
We, in America, can't stand the thought of even one of Our Own
being hurt or killed, while involved in a campaign to bomb someone
else back into the stone age... A very different way of thinking,
that we cannot even begin to comprehend.

Those passengers fought the highjackers because they knew they
were headed for certain death if they didn't fight... They might have
a chance of survival if they were successful in overcoming them. Only
a few fought. The rest cowered. If they had all fought, that plane
would have landed safely.
If the highjackers had handed all the passengers parachutes, they
would have all jumped to safety and the White House would now be a
pile of rubble.
The highjackers knew they were headed for certain death either
way... They volunteered for it... Did the passengers on the other 3
flights fight?

I know this sounds cold and heartless to say in the aftermath of
Tuesday. But, hey! The subject is here, and in a couple weeks, when
emotions have cooled... Or when G.W. launches his attack on
Afghanistan killing many civilians, and Americans are dancing in the
streets over their deaths, even though we're so appalled that they
would dance in the streets over our deaths... No one will give a
sh*t.
America has gone yellow. We were once a great nation. Not anymore.

America will bomb the hell out of Afghanistan. Only because we
have stealth bombers we can do it with little, or, no loss on our
side. If we had to go in with the same technology as the Afghanis
possess, we'd tuck tail and run.

Hell, I can't even find anyone in this country who is willing to
join a boycott against companies that are destroying our
environment... They're afraid they may hurt someone's feelings. Or,
someone might get mad at them, or, worse yet, they may be
inconvenienced... Boo Hoo!

In short... No. I'm not happy that thousands of folks died in New
York. I am appalled though, that Americans will yell and scream in
protest when American civilians are killed, yet, will sit on their
fat, lazy asses, watching television and drinking beer, not even
uttering a whimper of protest when the U.S. government goes out
killing thousands, even hundreds of thousands of civilians in other
countries. That's Sick!

Cheers,
Andrew

they were, no doubt, getting even for the hundreds of thousands of

So, the U.S. will launch yet another military campaign against the

Shouldn't we, the Human Race, inventors of the Macintosh, be at

Re: Format interleave

2001-09-05 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

Marten from the Kraats wrote:
I am trying a pretty fast hard disk in a LC... Which format
interleave is the best: 1, 2, 3, 4???

I have no direct answer to your question. But, since the concept
of interleave perplexed me for so many years... I thought I'd toss
in a few words on it for the benefit of New Mac (real computer)
users.

Interleave is how the hard drive writes data:
A hard drive has a platter which contains (in terms of data) many
cylinders, or, tracks. Each cylinder is then sub-divided into blocks,
or, sectors.
For the sake of simplicity, let's take the number 10, since all
Western numbering systems are based on 10... Say, you have 10 sectors
of data on each cylinder...

Under ideal circumstances, your hard drive will read sector 1 (OK,
it's actually sector 0... But, this is for simplicity's sake) send
the data to your computer, the computer will then store the data,
then send a message to the hard drive, OK, I'm ready for the next
block of data. This message will reach the hard drive at, or, before
the time the hard drive reaches the beginning of sector 2. (the time
it takes the platter to physically rotate to that point) This would
be a 1:1 interleave ratio.

In the case of a slower computer and/or faster hard drive... by
the time the computer stores the data from sector 1, then sends the,
OK, I'm ready message to the hard drive, the hard drive has already
rotated past the beginning of sector 2. Thus, the hard drive must
wait for the platter to turn one entire revolution before sector 2
reappears. Then it can send sector 2 to the computer. This slows
things down a whole lot...
In this case, it would be faster if the hard drive wrote data on
sectors 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10... By the time the computer is
ready for the second block of data, the hard drive is already past
the beginning of sector 2, but, the second block of data is written
on sector 3. So, the hard drive only has to rotate its platter 1/10
of a turn before it locates the data which the computer is ready for.
This is a 2:1 interleave ratio.

Much slower computers/much faster hard drives may require a 3:1
ratio... writing data on sectors 1, 4, 7, 10.etc.

I hope this helps someone's understanding, somewhere.

Re: Printer question

Marten wrote:
I thought that the mac printer port was a serial port. How did they
do that? I hope not by also delivering a nubus parallel printer port

Marten

Yes, Orange Micro used to make a Mac to parallel cable and software. If you
can find one or its equilivent they work fine on the old Mac's.
  Gary

A serial to parallel adapter is a fairly simple device. They've
been around for a long time. I used to have one on a Commodore 64
with a dark-side dot matrix printer, years ago.
Essentially, is just stores up 8 bits, then sends them out all at
once on the parallel port. Stores up the next 8 sends them out...

Re: External Speakers * A few notes

2001-08-15 Thread Andrew Michael MacTao

There is no sound out from the TV tuner card or AV card. That's why Apple
has the 1/8 minijack on the motherboard.

Right. Oops. Those are definitely under two watts. You'll need an amp.

Most definitely!

Typical loudspeakers come in 4, 8 or 16 ohm varieties.

Typical unbalanced line level, ie, the audio out on your computer,
the playback jacks on your cassette deck are in the 47,000 to 100,000
ohm range.

An 8 watt amplifier will deliver 8 volts at 1 amp into an 8 ohm speaker.

A line level output typically peaks at 100 millivolts. (1/10 volt)
The current available, since it's designed to feed a 50,000 ohm load
is almost nill.

The long and the short of it... You could hook loudspeakers
directly to the audio out jack on your computer *probably* (no
guarantees) won't hurt anything. But! you'd have to turn off your fan
motors, hard drives, etc. put your ear up to the speaker to hear
anything at all. And, it would sound very tinny. (bass notes require
significant amounts of current)

Cheers,
Andrew

laptop. He's been wanting to cram Mac OS 9.1 on this
G3/233 that only has 160megs RAM and a 4 gig HD.

Compared to the others, that's hardly cramming it on there...

I'd say so too. I have a iMac rev. A with 96 mb running 9.1 Really no
problem...

Ditto! If your friend has need for features beyond what OS 8.6
provides, OS 9.1 is well worth the disk space it occupies... Unlike
OS 9.0 which might be better served with (flame retardant suit donned
here) Windoze '98... (hideous! Even for Micro$oft)

Sounds like the same monitor I have on my 7100 as a second... 14

are visible, but, hard to turn with the hatch closed... with the
hatch open they're easier the vertical and horizontal size
position pots are accessible?... Headphone jack just to the left of
the hatch?

Mine too, works beautifully at 640X480. Freaks out at 512X384
won't centre right at 832X624. Design flaw?

While I'm on this, what software do I need for OS
8.6 to enable the extra features of a x100 PDS AV card?

I don't have the AV card in my 7100, just the HPV card. OS 8.6
should have the necessary drivers though, for video-in, video-out on
the AV card.

*Friendly reminder* Quite a few folks on the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list have AV cards in their
X100's. Those who have 'em could probably give you a more in-depth
answer.

Andrew

I have many Mac monitors. I want to connect one to a windoze box (Flame
retardant suit on) Which one would work easiest and what adapters will I
need? Please reply off list, I don't want to start another flame war.
Your gonna look like one of them intel guys in the commercials.. :)

OOPS... Flames? what flames?

No flame retardant suit necessary, unless you're planning to rave
about the superiority of Pee Cee's.

Quite seriously... This is the most tolerant and understanding
list I've ever subscribed to. Folks may remind you if you're
deviating SERIOUSLY off-topic. But, they'll usually provide you with
an answer to your question along with that reminder.

Connecting a Pee Cee monitor to a vintage Mac, or, connecting a
vintage Mac monitor to a Pee Cee... (stretching ever so slightly) is
still on-topic.

Editorials left behind...

I'm not intimately familiar with every model of Mac monitor. But,
if one of your monitors is Multi-sync doesn't have ADB connectors
on it to set the screen size refresh rate... All you need is an
HD-15 (3 rows of 5 pins) to DB-15 (8 pins in one row, 7 pins in the
other) adaptor.
You can find these on eBay from a couple dollars on up (depending
on the time the auction closes) Or, from online merchants for $15 or
$20.

Cheers,
Andrew

Quite True. I had an electronics Teacher once, who said,
Electronics is the ONLY industry where prices continue to drop.
Computers seem to be the prime example of that statement. My good
friend/Mac mentor paid about $6,500 for her IIci with 4 MEG of RAM,
