RE: Invoicing App

2012-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Steve,

I have never had the need to use it, but I have often heard about Fresh
Books, you can check it out at www.FreshBooks.com. I know they have
sponsored Windows Weekly with Leo Laport and they have also an app. This is,
of course, not entirely free as far as I know.

If you do a google search for Invoicing services you get a bunch of
results.

Ramy,

I presume what you're trying to do is to transfer the contacts from your
previous cell phone to your iPhone. Is this correct?

I just accomplished this via iTunes, but had to come up with some tricks to
get the contacts to install on to my iPhone via an iTunes sync.

If you would, send me your specifics:

- current device where your contacts reside
- version of Windows (if you have a PC you can work with)
- your PC-based e-mail client

Here's what I did to get my contacts from my PC to my iPhone 5:
- I'm running Windows Vista with a Contacts folder, this folder contains a

number of individual contact files (i.e., my info is stored in a file
named Bill Gallik.contact - here's what I did to trick iTunes into
updating the iPhone contacts:
- created a back-up folder for all the existing contact files. (named it
Old-Contacts as a sibling folder to the original Contacts folder.
- Moved all my contact files from Contacts to Old-Contacts
- Went to the Old-Contacts folder and selected the contact files
associated with folks I wanted in my iPhone contacts.
- Copied those selected contact files to the Contacts folder. I'm not
sure if I needed to do it this way, but I wanted to be sure that all
*.contact files in the Contacts folder had an up-to-date time stamp to drive

syncing.
- With my iPhone plugged into the USB port on my PC, I opened the FILE
menu in iTunes and selected the sync with %your iPhone% menu item (%your
iPhone% is a symbolic name for, what else, whatever you've named your
iPhone -- or any other iDevice for that matter)
- Just followed the iTunes input sequence and waited for the iPhone contacts

to be appropriately updated.

One thing I wanted to be certain of was that all files in the Contacts
folder on the PC had timestamps with basically right now for them.
Whenever I've done this syncing in the past with different devices, it's
been based on which file is newer. And, that the Contacts folder(on the PC)

had a now timestamp would also indicate to the syncing procedure that any
files sitting on the target device (iPhone in this case) that are not
present on the PC folder are not wanted so should be deleted.

HTH

Let me know if this has helped and/or if you need any additional advice, my
direct e-mail address is:

Adding colour inversion to the rotor.

2012-11-15 Thread Sandratomkins
Hi,

I find the colour inversion feature in settings very useful. However, it is
a pain in the neck when it comes to anything that uses the camera or shows
pictures. I feel sure it would be posssible to tweak this so that images are
exempt from the inversion, but, if not, it would be so much less hastle if the
colour inversion setting could be a toggle in the rotor. No-one has managed
this, have they?

Wanted: good gps application

2012-11-15 Thread Ari Moisio

Hi

I'm lookin for good gps application. I have tested so far Navigon,
Tomtom, Blindsquare, Aroundme, Sendero lookaround, IOS 6 maps, Ariadne,
MyWay Classic and few aplications made only for finnish market.

I have found Blindsquare best so far.

Especially i would be interested about accessible application that will
use OpenStreetMap data or application that will allow user to import POI
data in some format.

Another nice feature would be justo to point phone to certain direction
and it will tell details on that direction: crossings, addresses or POIs
according user preferences.

Any tips welcome.

A BARD book is a book from the National Library Service here in the United

Re: Braille Sense u2 QWERTY with iDevices

2012-11-15 Thread Scott Davert
I don't see a way to do this from the BSU2 qwerty. Best advice I can
give is to use the one on the virtual keyboard on the touch screen. If
the virtual keyboard is hidden, best of luck getting it unhidden, as
there is no touch screen command for this and I don't think anyone
knows of a command in conjunction with the function key to accomplish
this.
This is certainly not something that's ready for prime time. The BT
version works fine though. Sadly, who knows if it'll be fixed, since
most of this is something that will need to be resolved on Apple's
end.

 HI all.
SO I rebooted both the phone and Braille Sense, and am now able to type
using the standard keyboard. It's also importnat to note, as was done
earlier on one list, that you must have contractions turned off on the
iDevice. However, the backspace key and enter key do not work.
Also, the function key with H, instead of space with H, will actually go in
to the app switcher. I thought that perhaps this meant some consistency in
the sense that you could sort of use the function key in place of the
spacebar, but no. When I press function with M, it mutes speech like other
wireless keyboards do when using the command VO plus M, but it also
activates the home button. Function with S also activates the home button,
after briefly taking you up to the status bar.
The scrol buttons work as they should, but instead of the left and right
arrows moveing across the screen, they actually activate the current rotor
setting. Instead, the up and down arrow keys move left to right across the
 screen.

 Hope this info is helpful,
 Scott

RE: Braille Sense u2 QWERTY with iDevices

2012-11-15 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, the BT version is great. So, no combination of the function key and
some other key with the letter E will do what the space+e does on the BT
version? That is too bad.
Most blue tooth keyboards made for the Apple devices have a designated
button to hide and unhide the virtual keyboard.

So, it sounds like someone with the QWERTY BrailleSense will be better off
having a separate blue tooth keyboard for entering text and issuing commands
and use the braille for output only.

Thanks for testing,
Richard

I don't see a way to do this from the BSU2 qwerty. Best advice I can give is
to use the one on the virtual keyboard on the touch screen. If the virtual
keyboard is hidden, best of luck getting it unhidden, as there is no touch
screen command for this and I don't think anyone knows of a command in
conjunction with the function key to accomplish this.
This is certainly not something that's ready for prime time. The BT version
works fine though. Sadly, who knows if it'll be fixed, since most of this is
something that will need to be resolved on Apple's end.

 HI all.
SO I rebooted both the phone and Braille Sense, and am now able to
type using the standard keyboard. It's also importnat to note, as was
done earlier on one list, that you must have contractions turned off
on the iDevice. However, the backspace key and enter key do not work.
Also, the function key with H, instead of space with H, will actually
go in to the app switcher. I thought that perhaps this meant some
consistency in the sense that you could sort of use the function key
in place of the spacebar, but no. When I press function with M, it
mutes speech like other wireless keyboards do when using the command
VO plus M, but it also activates the home button. Function with S also
activates the home button, after briefly taking you up to the status bar.
The scrol buttons work as they should, but instead of the left and
right arrows moveing across the screen, they actually activate the
current rotor setting. Instead, the up and down arrow keys move left
 to right across the screen.

 Hope this info is helpful,
 Scott

RE: Wanted: good gps application

2012-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ari,

You pretty much tested all he best GPS apps, some people on here use Motion
X GPS Drive, but I'm not sure how well they cover Finland and in any case,
it doesn't do anything Navigon can't do and while it's cheaper to buy it,
it needs data as opposed to having the maps on the phone and for voice
guidance there is an annual fee.

I don't think what you describe exists at this point, but you definitely
want to watch the list as there are now 3 new apps that have been mentioned
before, but which are not yet out. One is an app called BreadCrums and I
understand it will work similarly to MyWay Classic. It's from the same
developer who made LookTel Money Reader and LookTel Recognizer, not sure if
it will offer a lot of other features compared to MyWay Classic. The next
app was just mentioned yesterday and it's apparently a new Maps/GPS app from
Nokia, one of your country's well-known companies. So t is called Here as
far as I know and should be out in a few weeks. This is not a blind-specific
app so nobody really knows at this point how accessible it will be. Lastly,
Sendero has received funding from Seeing-Eye to develop a full-fletched
iPhone GPS app for the blind in addition to their Sendero LookAround app
which is useful, but very limited in what it tells you. This will definitely
also be the most expensive of these apps and should hopefully give the user
a similar set of features as was available in MobileGeo. I have high hopes
for this app as MobileGeo was a very good app, but it suffered somewhat from
the instability of the Windows Mobile platform.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: Clouds

2012-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

iTunes Match is available for PC users although I believe it may not be
available in all countries so you have to check if it is available in
Ireland.

I have had my CD collection on the computer for many years and have thought
about iTunes Match several times, but I do have a 64 Gig iPhone and my music
collection of just under 4,000 songs takes up about 25 Gig even though it's
ripped at 256 Kbps which is the iTunes Plus quality and what you would get
from iTunes Match. At $25 or I think here in Canada it's $28 a year it's not
expensive, but I just have not seen really what the advantage is. Yes, I
could download my entire collection to a new phone from the cloud, but I
just sync it once from iTunes and it's done and that takes about half an
hour as opposed to who knows how many hours it would take to download over
WiFi from the cloud.

Regards,

Sieghard

Can you use sury with it and how do you make that happen?

That's exactly what I just recommended for a client I'm working with.
He seems happy with the combination, though juggling devices can get a
bit tricky. But he loves the qwerty version of the Braille Sense, as
many of it's commands are very similar to Windows, which is where he
was at until this note taker. That's probably about the only instance
where I would have recommended that combination, I think more people
will be happy with the BT, but that's not necissarily a discussion for
this list. Smiles.

I don't see a way to do this from the BSU2 qwerty. Best advice I can give
 is
to use the one on the virtual keyboard on the touch screen. If the virtual
keyboard is hidden, best of luck getting it unhidden, as there is no touch

This is certainly not something that's ready for prime time. The BT version

go in to the app switcher.

 Hope this info is helpful,
 Scott

Thanks, Jen. I see that it shows up in the status bar of the phone. I was

It does help to lock orientation and it goes for all apps unless landscape
is needed. It will activate landscape if landscape is required.

 Hi,

hand positioning isn't really that important. Place 3 fingers on the
screen and swipe right. That should do the trick. You should try
putting your device down on a flat surface until you get use to doing
the gesture. If you don't have orientation lock on, you should turn it
on.

Questions regarding email setup on iPhone 4S for new subscriber.

2012-11-15 Thread Ed Barnes
Hi all.

I have a perplexing question regarding email setup on my new iPhone 4S which I
purchased a couple of weeks ago.

I have been able to setup my email with no problems, I can send and I can
receive with no problems, however; when my iPhone downloads the email it is not
deleting the messages from the pop server.

I setup my email as follows.

Settings.

Mail, contacts, calendars.

Add account.

Account name/description is edbar...@nf.sympatico.ca

I entered the pop and smtp servers, username, and password.

Then, I did the following.

Advanced button.

Remove is set to 1 day.

Delete from server is set to when removed from inbox.

However, if I download email messages unto my iPhone and then login to my
account from a pc the messages which are on the phone are still showing as
available for download unto a computer with an email client like ms outlook or
for viewing in a web browser.

I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions.

Thanks - Ed.

Re: Guitar Apps?

You could have a look at the facilities in Irig.

But for live work? shakey ground i reckon.
Even for recording purposes, I'd rather have external effects units,
and use send and returns on a pre-amp mixer.

Some guitar effects apps are so entisingly priced, it's hard to
resist what some of the music industry is using. Then of course
there's accessibility.

Good luck,

iPad mini and HQ voices

2012-11-15 Thread Victor Marques
Hi,

I love my new iPad mini but am curious to know something...
On my previous i Device (iPod 4G) I was able to use other HQ voices
besides the US HQ voice. I could do this by setting my region to
Australia, for example, to get the Australian Karen in HQ (it would
automatically download in about 10 minutes when plugged in).

On the new iPad mini this does not work. Changing my region still
keeps the US HQ voice. I can obviously set any voice in my language
rotor but even with the region set to Australia, it keeps the US HQ
voice and uses a compact version of Australian Karen as the default.

Does anyone else have the iPad mini and can you confirm this? What
about other devices (i.e. iPhone 5) running iOS 6.0.1? My iPod touch
4G seems to still allow this even with 6.0.1 installed but I also have
not changed my region for fear of losing the Australian HQ voice and
not getting it back.

Victor

Go Payment, I'm desperate!

2012-11-15 Thread Kim

Hello,

I've search the archives for solutions and I've spoken with Go
Payment's tech support who told me that they are aware of the
problem and are working on it (the problem being that VO doesn't
work with the card reader).

Has anyone here actually used a BT earpiece with this? I saw
that a particular order of plugging in and turning on stuff was
suggested. I tried that and it didn't work for me.

I bought an ear phone jack splitter which I saw was recommended
but apparently the app is smart enough to see that there is and
ear phone plugged in so that the card reader can't connect.

I have a show on Saturday. I'm being persistent (a nuisance)
because I remember some folks on this list who are using Go
Payment.

I setup my email as follows.

Settings.

Add account.

If you have it set up for staying on the server for one day, and you get
your email on the phone during that day and happen to log in later on your
pc, then they will be there. But, if you wait until the next day, the
messages will be gone. That has been my experience.

Hi,

Home budget allows you to import this data, but you must download it on
your PCM first. The app is quite accessible.

I don't think they were very aware of access issues, until I contacted them,
so no, they haven't contacted any VI groups. as I think I may have

they genuinely don't know where to start, which is why I decided to send my

Re: Questions regarding email setup on iPhone 4S for new subscriber.

2012-11-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sounds to me like it's working as expected given how you've set it up.
Looks like messages will be left on your server for one day after you
download them unless you delete them from your iPhone or move them into
another folder. Look to see if delete from server has an option like as
soon as downloaded or something like that.

RE: Go Payment, I'm desperate!

2012-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kim,

First of all, I seem to remember that not all headphone splitters are
created equal so there may very well be some out there that would work for
you, but as I said, I am not sure. I actually just saw one today in an email
from NCIX.com, it's one from Monster and it's not cheap at $24.95, vut it
states specifically it works for iPhones, iPads etc. and it even has
independent volume controls for the 2 ports.

Now, as for Bluetooth, I just tried this with my stereo bluetooth headset
and the wired earpods. I have never used the Go Payments card reader, but I
don't see why it should be different as it's all a matter of priority. So,
here is what I just did:

1. I turned on Bluetooth.
2. I started playing an audio book in the Audible app on speaker.
3. I turned on my bluetooth headset which had already been paired with my
iPhone. After a moment the audio switched from the external speaker to the
bluetooth headset. This is automatic and should work like that with your
bluetooth headset.
4. I then plugged in my wired earpods which should mimic you plugging in
your Go Payment card reader. As expected the audio stopped on my bluetooth
headset and it switched back to the wired earpods, in your case I am not
sure where the audio actually goes, but plugging in the card reader into the
headphone jack does stop your audio, right?
5. I now turned my bluetooth headset off by holding the on/off button until
it turned off. My audio continued to play on the earpod.
6. I waited a few seconds and turned my bluetooth headset back on. I did
this while the audio book was playing on the earpods and I did not unplug
them. Once my bluetooth headset turned on it took a second or 2 and the
audio automatically switched back to the bluetooth headset.

If this works the same way with the Go Payment card reader it means that you
should be able to get Voiceover back to the bluetooth headset this way. Once
again to sum it up:

1. Make sure bluetooth is on and turn on your headset so Voiceover speaks on
the headset.
2. Plug in your card reader
3. Turn off your headset.
4. wait a few seconds and turn your bluetooth headset back on, Voiceover
should be back on bluetooth.

Good luck, let me know if it worked.

Regards,
Sieghard

All,

There is a new version of the Facebook app in the App Store. I installed it
a bit ago, and continue to be ecstatic with its progress.
When I double a status I can now see the people who like it without
fiddling. I could get this information on the prior version, but it
required an extra step. I can now also tag in my FB status in the same way
I do it on the computer version. I type:
@name
and the list of friends matching my typing appears below the edit box.
I double tap the correct friend I want to tag, and it works nice as I could
please. I am sure there is more, but I had to put out the word.
This is a true example of a great turn around.
