Hi, for what it's worth, using the timer from the iPhone's own clock is a
pretty nifty idea. However for the beginner user I can see where this might
present a problem. Apps like Audible for example have their own sleep timer
feature and I hope that the BARD Mobile app will as well in the near future.
Maybe they can even make the sleep timer button visually resemble a moon
just like the physical player. smile.

To set the timer in the Timer tab, you'll see two controls at the top

Have you taken a look at the Timer tab in the Clock app yet?

The timer goes off when the time is up, so you can start the timer
before or after you start reading the book.

In the Timer tab, you use a few picker items to set how much time you
want to tick off, like 15 or 30 minutes. You then double tap on the
what you want to happen button and select stop playing from the
bottom of the list. It's below all of the alarm tones you can choose.
Once you've done that, you just double tap the start button and the
 timer starts counting down.

If it were me, I'd start the timer and then start the book reading,
so you don't have to deal with the VO and the timer settings while
 the book is being read.

Use the Timer tab in the clock app. The Clock app should be on your

RE: AccessNote Question

2013-11-26 Thread Bobby Druesedow
Just a tip.
If you do have your notes on the computer, and you have dropbox installed on
the same computer, then you might try the following:
Open Dropbox on the computer
Go to the Apps folder
Open the accessnote folder
Then past each of your notes in there. You might want to go ahead and name
each note so you know what it is.
Then hit the sync button in the access note app on your phone. This should
bring everything in. Hope this helps some. Just in case you don't know, I
have found my notes in Microsoft Outlook in my iCloud mail acount folder.

Re: ordering a kindle book

2013-11-26 Thread Kimber Gardner
You can only buy kindle books through the amazon web site whether on
your phone or laptop.

If you have one click purchasing enabled it's very easy. One thing to
be aware of is there is a combo box where you will need to select
where you want the book delivered. For example, on my account the
choices are Kimberly's kindle, Kimberly's iPhone etc.

So if you want the book to go to your phone, be sure Rebecca's iPhone
is selected in the combobox, click the buy with one click button, then
the next time you open the kindle app on the phone, the book will
download.

I hope this helps.

Downloading Paprika Running iOS 6.1.2

2013-11-26 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hi All,

I'm starting a new thread regarding the Paprika recipe app. I not sure if this
was answered or not, but I'm still running iOS 6.1.2. When I attempted to
purchase Paprika for the phone, it stated that you needed to be running iOS 7.
My question is: Is there a work around to download the app to the phone running
iOS 6.1.2 and what is the best way to accomplish this? I have purchased it for
the Mac, but also wanted it on the phone.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Eileen

You could use reminders instead. Even Siri can remind you on that date but

Cool. Is there a way to only have a list of your appointments? rather than
the day or month views? In older versions of the calendar back in IOS 5 I
think, you could switch to list and only see your appointments with no days
or months being shown for example now, I hate scrolling through the screen
and hearing every single day of the month when looking for an appointment.
I haven’t used the iphone calendar much and am looking into it more so

Hi, for what it's worth, using the timer from the iPhone's own clock is a
pretty nifty idea. However for the beginner user I can see where this might

Maybe they can even make the sleep timer button visually resemble a moon

The timer goes off when the time is up, so you can start the timer
before or after you start reading the book.

In the Timer tab, you use a few picker items to set how much time you
want to tick off, like 15 or 30 minutes. You then double tap on the

Hi,

I guess this really depends. For example, if I want to reset the timer, I
just use Siri. So lets say I originally set my timer for 30 minutes. I’m
fading fast and want to change the timer to 10 minutes. I bring up Siri and
say, “change timer to 10 minutes.” That’s it, I’m done.

Hi, for what it's worth, using the timer from the iPhone's own clock is a
pretty nifty idea. However for the beginner user I can see where this
might
present a problem. Apps like Audible for example have their own sleep
timer
feature and I hope that the BARD Mobile app will as well in the near
future.

Maybe they can even make the sleep timer button visually resemble a moon
just like the physical player. smile.

I missed the first of this thread but if it's how to set a bookmark using
Safari on an iDevice, here's how I do it on my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4:

1. Go to the page you want to bookmark.
2. On the bottom row where back and forward buttons are located, the third
one is Utilities which you execute.
3. A screen of buttons pops up one of which is Bookmark which you should
execute.
4. You will be presented with a screen and placed in an edit box where you
can change the default name of the page as desired.
5. Select Done in the bottom right of the screen when finished.

I hope this is on target and helps.

In iOS 7 just flick down or up once when you are on the message you want to

Double tap on this and the message you are on will get selected and the
Forward and Delete buttons appear at the bottom above the home key. If you
want to forward multiple messages in a thread just double tap each message

Basically the More option in the action rotor has replaced the edit button

I'm falling in love with that one. I just have some little eccentricities I
need to get used to with that one, like local content that I want but not sure
how to find, and adding stations to the list. Their feedback is beautiful
though and they're quickly becoming my radio source totally now, with
everything. Hope that helps and hopefully Chris you'll give it a shot and it
works for you. It's also nice that it works on the macc too, that's where I
fell in love with it originally. Thanks again and take care guys, sorry for the

apple TV audio

Before I go out on Black Friday to buy an Apple TV, I want to make sure I know

Can I use an Apple TV as an air play source for audio? For example, will

I understand all the video content for an Apple TV, but I’m not sure if I can
just stream audio through it.

Thank you,

Also, how about airplay apps that may come along with speakers? I’ve read

 Hi Tracy,
If you don't have an existing stereo or surroundsound system, then you don't
need an airport express. You can just buy the airplay speaker and get it

If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could buy
an airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system. Then
you would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-26 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Iyou have an airport extreme or another airport express, it can be used alone.
Just plug it in where you want it, and use the airport utility to connect your

Also, how about airplay apps that may come along with speakers? I’ve read

 Hi Tracy,
If you don't have an existing stereo or surroundsound system, then you
don't need an airport express. You can just buy the airplay speaker and get
it connected to your Wi-Fi network, and you should be good to go.
If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could
buy an airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system.
Then you would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

 Just a tip.
If you do have your notes on the computer, and you have dropbox installed on

 Open Dropbox on the computer
 Go to the Apps folder
 Open the accessnote folder
Then past each of your notes in there. You might want to go ahead and name
each note so you know what it is.
Then hit the sync button in the access note app on your phone. This should
bring everything in. Hope this helps some. Just in case you don't know, I
have found my notes in Microsoft Outlook in my iCloud mail acount folder.

Re: ordering a kindle book

2013-11-26 Thread John Diakogeorgiou
Regardless of where you choose to have the book downloaded too, all
titles show up on all devices and you can still download it. However,
as others have said you need a browser to buy the book.

On 11/26/13, Kimber Gardner kimbersinbox1...@gmail.com wrote:
You can only buy kindle books through the amazon web site whether on
 your phone or laptop.

If you have one click purchasing enabled it's very easy. One thing to
be aware of is there is a combo box where you will need to select
where you want the book delivered. For example, on my account the
choices are Kimberly's kindle, Kimberly's iPhone etc.

So if you want the book to go to your phone, be sure Rebecca's iPhone
is selected in the combobox, click the buy with one click button, then
the next time you open the kindle app on the phone, the book will
 download.

 I hope this helps.

Re: Bluetooth keyboards

I agree with this recommendation. For $30, which is what it was
retailing for on Amazon, I think it's a great deal. Works really well
with VoiceOver and at a decent price. Unles you're looking for a
really portable solution, like a keyboard that will fit in your pocket
or fold up, it's a good option.

basketball games due to contract obligations with IMG Leerfield sports

broadcast on something like that College Sports Talk channel they have,
MadDog radio, etc will get through the cracks. But, it's not supposed to.

I don't think some of the college sports stations are streamed on-line. I
have full access and while I was traveling a few months ago looking for a
lot of college football games, I didn't see them on line.

Very, very interesting. I will keep this tip in mind however. I usually
more than 24 stations, but tonight, and went looking for XM space five by
the words college basketball and that no hits. So I'll check this one
out.

Re: Bluetooth keyboards

2013-11-26 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, another one which is good and comes in 2 sizes is the small
keyboards made by Anker. There are two types on Amazon and both are
great for both iPhone and/or iPad. One is a bit bigger than the other,
so it depends on how small you want them. None of them is as small as
the iPhone, so there is enough room for comfortable typing.

Problem: IOS7.04 with Bluetooth Braille Display

2013-11-26 Thread James Lee
Hi All,

I started to have a problem with my focus 40 blue. I have the latest
ios7.04.
Whenever I need to use my braille display, I have to forget this device
from the list of bluetooth device, and restart the phone and pair from the
scratch.
If not, the display won't connect to the phone when I unlock the phone. If
I choose the focus blue on the braille setting in voiceover, it says it's
connected, and the focus blue says bt at the end. However, I can't get
anything to appear on my display.
Only way is to delete the device from the phone, and restart, and pair it
again whenever I unlock the phone. Does anyone have this problem, or know
how to fix this?
Thanks a lot,

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-26 Thread Eric Caron
The Apple TV can serve the same purpose as the Air port express and may be a
better option for straight audio applications. It may depend on how you want
to use the device. But with Apple TV you can also screen share and put your
audio from all applications to the device and still keep VoiceOver on the mac.
I believe I heard a demonstration of this by David Woodbridge on his podcast
feed.

If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could
buy an airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system.
Then you would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

Fwd: [IDevices] {Disarmed} FW: See Control What Apps Have Microphone Access in iOS 7

 Author: Paul Horowitz
Subject: See Control What Apps Have Microphone Access in iOS 7

Apple has added an additional security feature to iOS 7 that allows users to
control exactly which apps can have access to the microphone. Yes, the
microphone that you speak into, either at the bottom of an iPhone / iPod, or
at the top of an iPad. The access controls are tucked away within the Privacy
settings of iOS, and the same controls also include a complete list of apps
 with audio input access:

Open Settings app and go to “Privacy”
Select “Microphone” to get a list of all apps that have requested access to
the microphone, and to control which apps have access to the microphone
You’ll find the complete list of apps that have requested access, and whether
or not they have microphone access is determined by the ON/OFF toggle switch.
Flipping any of those switches to the OFF position prevents that app from
accessing the microphone, but in most cases the app itself will continue to
 function.

It’s worthwhile to review this list from time to time for your own privacy
purposes, but it’s particularly important with iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch
devices that are given to children and/or deployed in environments where
per-app control of microphone access is a valid security precaution. Users
who wish to lock down microphone usage further can use the Restrictions and
Parental Controls functions to set a preference, and then prevent any
adjustments from being made by other parties, or even prevent all apps from
gaining mic access, which effectively disables the microphone on the
iPhone/iPad completely (with the exception of the phone app for iPhone users,
 of course).

Some of the apps listed in the microphone access list may surprise you at
first, but you should take into consideration all functions of the app before
jumping to any conclusions. For some examples in the included screen shot,
you may think it’s odd that Instagram, a photo sharing app, has requested
access to the microphone, but that is actually due to the relatively new
inclusion of video to the site, and thus the microphone access is required to
grant audio to the videos posted to Instagram. For an app like Google, the
microphone access is necessary to use the really useful Google Now feature,
which gives you Siri-like functionality for queries and searches. Other apps
like Skype are more obvious to be in the list, because without microphone
access a VOIP call would be without the voice element. If you do see an app
that clearly does not belong in that list however (like some games) go ahead
and turn it off, since you’ll probably notice if it was truly necessary or
not the next time you use that app again.

Users will also find that a separate microphone access control will appear
manually from directly within certain apps, when that app attempts to request
usage of the mic. This is very clearly identified with a message “Appname
would like to access the microphone” with two choices: “Don’t Allow” and OK”.
Any app that has had that dialog box appear will also register in the Privacy
Microphone settings, unless the mic has been turned off as a privacy or
 security precaution.

Reach the

Downloading Paprika Running iOS 6.1.2

2013-11-26 Thread Esther
Hi Eileen,
Just purchase the Paprika Recipe Manager for iPhone app through iTunes on your
computer. Then when you try to download it on your iOS device you'll be given
the option of downloading the last version of the app that is compatible with
your version of iOS (6.0.2), and this will also be accessible since Paprika has
had good support for VoiceOver for quite a while. You can also buy any other
iOS 7 apps using iTunes on your computer this way (like the Radium ~ Perfect
Internet Radio app by CatPig Studios that is still a free app), although the
earlier Radium app that is compatible with iOS 6 is their first release, that
has accessibility problems that were only recently fixed.

For antone else who needs the links to the versions of Paprika Recipe Manager
for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that are all on sale for (U.S.) Thanksgiving, here
they are again:

• Paprika Recipe Manager for iPhone ($2.99, usually lists for $4.99) by
Hindsight Labs, LLC
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paprika-recipe-manager-for/id406732590?mt=8
• Paprika Recipe Manager for iPad ($2.99, usually lists for $4.99) by Hindsight
Labs, LLC
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paprika-recipe-manager/id392408028?mt=8
• Paprika Recipe Manager for Mac ($9.99, usually lists for $19.99) by Hindsight
Labs, LLC
https://itunes.apple.com/app/paprika-recipe-manager/id451907568?mt=12

Also, check the Paprika support web site for more information on frequently
asked questions, and for direct links to the User Guides for each app:
https://paprikaapp.zendesk.com/home

I'll paste this information here:
• Paprika iPhone user guide:
http://www.paprikaapp.com/help/iphone/
• Paprika iPad user guide
http://www.paprikaapp.com/help/ipad/
• Paprika Mac user guide:
http://www.paprikaapp.com/help/mac/

Note there are separate versions for iPhone, IPad and Mac.  The iOS apps are
supported in a number of languages, and you can import recipes from a large
number of different international web sites. This is my favorite recipe app
for iOS, and it can be used to maintain your recipes, meal planning, grocery
lists, etc. just using the iOS version, but can also sync this information to
all versions you have of the app (even the one for Android), and on all your
devices.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

MovieReading.com download seems to hang at 99% or 100%

2013-11-26 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

Trying to download the Philomena audio description.

First time I tried it, it announced a download cycle 0% to 100% rather quickly,
then slowly went through a 0% to 100% Downloading cycle, but seemed to hang
there for 30 minutes, and nothing else on the screen was active; everything
announced Downloading 100%.

I closed the app, reopened it, and tried downloading. Again, it cycled rather
quickly through a Downloading 0% to 100%, then cycled more slowly again from 0%
to 99% (this time), and seemed to hang there for about 30 minutes without
change, and nothing announced on the screen except Downloading.

Am I doing something wrong, or just too impatient, or might there be something
wrong with the site?

My wife and I want to try out the app by going to Philomena this weekend.

Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks, Keith

Re: Pandora

2013-11-26 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
I've had no major problems with Pandora lately, either, aside from being unable
to sort my station names in alphabetical order and put them in a list view.
Are you running the free or paid version? Sounds like it could be an issue
with connecting to the server. Do you have a strong, reliable Internet
connection? Are you connecting over 3g/4g/LTE or
wi-fi?

How many stations do you have currently? If you're trying to add to a
collection of 100 stations, you're maxed out and Pandora will likely complain
if you try to exceed that number.

Hope this helps.

Re: Iphone wifi doesnt connect but laptop does

2013-11-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I know you got some other good suggestions. Sounds like the problem is
between your router and your modem, but this doesn't explain why you
only see the problem on your Apple devices. Another thing to try would
be to reset your network settings on your iPhone and then reenter them.
I hope you figure it out.

BTW, your message showed up at the bottom of the email. I just mention
this in case someone else is looking for it below.

Is your router provided by Time-Warner or are you using your own router? Did
you or a Time-Warner technician have to do anything on your laptop? If you have
a wireless router from TW, do you have the information you need to connect to
the router, the pass phrase and all?

If you're getting 3 bars, it sounds like you are connecting to your network. I
assume when you say it isn't loading, you mean you can't get to things through
Safari. When you go into Settings - Wifi, are you seeing your local network
listed?

For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/groups/opt_out. I am using
the Time Warner modem but the router from Verizon Wireless because the Time
Warner modem does not have a router built in. I have found that when I turn off
the modem from Time Warner for a few seconds and then turn it back on the
wireless works again. It is annoying to do this every day though. I did this
yesterday twice. It is funny because it's only the Apple devices and not other
phones like the Samsung galaxy or other android.

In case it hasn't been suggested already, update your router to the latest

Audio Editing on iOS

2013-11-26 Thread Aser Tolentino
Hi All,
So I sat down with Hokusai for the first time in a while now that I have more
modern hardware to run it on and found that the editing cursor kept hopping
back to the beginning of the track. While I intend to make inquiries with the
developer, I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and/or can anyone
recommend an alternative app?

Thanks,
Aser
