It's called RiVO. We have seen blind people use their smartphones quite well with RiVO. I'm trying my best to make people know about the availability of this product from a land far away. RiVO is a revolutionary keyboard-like remote for Apple iOS VoiceOver users. The name stands for Remote interface to VoiceOver. Being about the size of a credit card, it is highly portable and yet comfortable with big keys. There are 12 keys in the middle just like telephone keypad, and there are 4 additional keys on the left and on the right, respectively. VoiceOver is an innovative technology from Apple and you can enjoy it like a breeze with RiVO. You can also type and edit text fast and easy, control music simple and handy. These features enable RiVO users to use a greater number of apps every day compared to VoiceOver users without RiVO. RiVO supports iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Android TalkBack is another innovative technology from Google, and Android version of RiVO is also available. More information about RiVO can be found at http://mobience.com/rivo and http://facebook.com/rivo.page. I hope RiVO is a convenient accessory to help you find, explore and enjoy the possibilities of your smart devices and fabulous apps out there that make your life easy. Hi Folks, I think it is a good policy to put the price of a new device in the email to make it easier for people to decide. According to their order page, RiVO for iPhone, English version ($129 USD): There is a $15 shipping charge added. Re: How to get photos off your phone using iTunes
Hi, again. Well, it turns out my home computer and my work computer don't see my iphone at all; I use both XP and Windows 7, and I tell my iPhone to trust the computers. I have like 900 photos on my phone, so it would be nice if I could get rid of all of them. I've gone to photos but can't get to the individual photos because they're listed by years. I have tried to go to Moments, as someone on some forum suggested, select the photos, but delete shows up but is grayed out. Go figure. This is totally annoying. If someone wants to contact me offlist, feel free. Every solution that is supposed to work just isn't. I've tried to see if there's setting on the phone or computer I need to change but can't figure out what it might be. As always, your help is truly appreciated. On 2/12/14, Isaac Hebert isaac.heb...@gmail.com wrote: You can remove them from the phone go to photos select the photo then double tap delete. When I use Windows Explorer to get to my iPhone, it might see the iPhone but will not show any folders or will put in a bunch of letters and numbers and I don't know what that means. Smile. You are neither special nor important. If you navigate through the folders that you are shown when you open your iPhone, you will eventually find all of your photos. If you control + a to select all, you can just hit delete to get rid of them. Problem solved. Cheers, Ben. On 2/12/14, Kathy Szinnyey joyfulreneg...@gmail.com wrote: This is a bit lengthy, but if you have the patience and know-how, I'd love a response! -- smugly sent from my iPhone you are neither special nor important. Severus Snape/The Buddha Okay, I don't know what it is with me, but my brain gets scrambled whenever I try to sync stuff. I have a bunch of photos that somehow landed on my iPhone and I want them all gone. And I want to be sure I have everything backed up or my husband will be very sad if I lose his photos. So I think I have backed up everything, and I think everything is encrypted, so I think I'm okay there. I was told by an Apple rep that the way to get rid of my photos is to go to my photos tab which I think I finally found, uncheck phots and click sync, and that's all there was supposed to be to it. Well, first I couldn't quite find the Phtos tab, so that was interesting. Then I think while going through the iTunes 11 tabs I checked the radio button for info and I then think I found the photos tab and clicked on that. Then I came to this drop-down box under photos which I'm not sure I really got into. But somewhere I did uncheck something in photos and then found the sync button. Some of my photos went away, but I still have half of them left on my phone. I don't have automatic sync turned on because I only have a 16 gig device. I'm using the most recent updates of JAWS and IOS, and I have an iPhone 4s. I have listened to Jonathan Mosen's Itunes 11 turoiral and have Ios 7 withou the Eye, but I'm still flummuxed. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful. Someone else suggested I go to photos, then moments, and select the photos I want to delete; there is a delete button but VoiceOver says unavailable. If only I could magically turn my iphone into a plain ole hard drive and just cut the files I don't want! Sigh! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: SIRI Not Completing Phone Calls
Hi List, Using my 5 S I also often ask Siri to make a call and it acts as though it is working but the call is not connected. I usually just repeat the request and normally it goes through the second time. I only realize this is happening when I listen for a extended time and no calling sounds happen, this despite the fact that Siri just said Calling Molly or whoever it was I asked for. This seems to happen every second or third time I make a call with Siri. Eric Caron On Feb 11, 2014, at 7:10 PM, Larry Lumpkin llump...@austin.rr.com wrote: Ditto here as well. For example I will ask siri to call mom's mobile and then a listing of a whole bunch of stuff shows up on the screen and she wants me to listen. So I try again and ask siri to call mom's mobile. And again the call wasn't completed . Then siri asks me if I want her to remember that mom is my mother. And I said yes. So I tried asking siri to call mom's mobile again tonight and the call went through with no problems. So Bill when for example if your going to call your mom ask siri if she will remember that your mom is your mother and see what happens the next time you call your mom. Take care. Re: Announcing a revolutionary remote for iOS VoiceOver users
I agree, but I also caution depending too much on a price listed in an email message. You may be able to get a better price from a different reseller, products go on sale, prices just change over time and so on. I would never make a buying decision based solely on a price contained in an email message, but I agree it's a nice piece of information to have to understand what price ballpark something is in. Re: Announcing a revolutionary remote for iOS VoiceOver users
Some interesting bits on this, might suit some, but $129 is pretty steep by any standards. It's a bit retro in reducing the touch screen devices back to fixed key tapping like the nokia days, and a ton to learn; but efficient when you get it. Some of the older key tappers might like it more than the touch screen methods, but a question of if they want to pay that much for it. Thanks for the tip, hope any buyer comes back with further real life experience feedback how they got on. RE: Chess-wise 3 available in App Store
Yes, this is very good news. One note about setting up the board. I was a bit confused when I first hit the clear board button because the pieces were still in their normal starting positions. Then, I double tapped on one and the board cleared. You can then double tap on the piece of your choice that is either above or below the board and then double tap the square where you want to place it. Very slick. Let me list some of the comments from RiVO users around the world: - RiVO is the most accurate and efficient tool for the blind to use smartphone. - I have 275 apps on my iPhone and RiVO is really valuable and helpful. - Alphabet typing becomes extremely fast with RiVO. - RiVO is a must-have accessory that many blind people will appreciate. - I have RiVO with me all the time. - Getting beyond different levels of the gestures are extremely faster with this keypad. - RIVO's smallQWERTY is superior to the old method of alphabet entry. - I use iPhone and RiVO every day, all day long. - RiVO is an indispensable accessory to the blind. - RiVO enables me use my iPhone precisely and quickly while on the move. - RiVO makes me use my iPhone without having to be conscious of the surroundings with my gesture actions. - RiVO gives me the convenience and freedom to use iPhone just like those who can see. - We really love this wonderful keyboard that you guys have made usable for us! - I love my RiVO! I keep it in my pocket all the time. - I am very happy with the keyboard's performance on both of iOS and Android platforms. - RiVO can provide relief to many users who are struggling with touchpad interface. - We were working with a customer who is blind, can only use one hand, and has cognitive disabilities. RE: iCloud Control Panel
Hi Edward, You may find a couple of hours a lot of time to spend on the iCloud Control Panel. There really isn't a lot in there. After you install it you sign in with your Apple ID and password. You can then tab through the options, they are all read as buttons or links: Contacts, Calendars and tasks with Outlook button: can read as checked or, if unchecked Jaws won't say anything Bookmarks with Internet Explorer button: can read as checked or, if unchecked Jaws won't say anything Tab once and after Bookmarks you have an option button which, if you have more than one browser installed, let's you check them. Photos button: same as above, either check it or uncheck it. If checked Photostream is active on the computer and any photos you take on the iPhone and which, if you turn Photostream on on the iPhone (in Settings, iCloud) will download to the iCloud, then they are pushed down to a folder you specify on your computer. By default I think it is My Pictures, Photostream There is another Options button after Photos where you can specify the location of your Photostream folder. In the Photostream options Jaws reads 2 unlabelled buttons as just Button, but you can use the Jaws cursor to read everything and click on stuff. There is also a Change button and if you route Jaws to PC and do a say line it will read you the location of the Photostream folder, Change of course lets you browse to a different location/folder. Lastly you have a link to Create an iCloud email address and if you use the Jaws cursor it will read Create an iCloud email address to use iCloud with Outlook. If you completely use the Jaws cursor that is actually at the top of the screen above your Contacts, Calendars and Tasks button. I'm not exactly sure what benefit there is to having an iCloud email, I think if you have a mail account set up on your PC in Outlook and have the same account set up on your iPhone you can still sync Contacts and Calendars although I don't think it will actually sync your email. I can't really talk from experience here because I use an Outlook.com email address and setting it up in Outlook and on the iPhone is very easy and all mail, contacts, calendars are kept synced anyways since Outlook.com already is Microsoft's cloud email service. After the link to create an iCloud email address is a Manage button. If you route Jaws to PC and then go up a line it will tell you how much of your 5 GB iCloud storage you are using and you can of course Manage your storage or buy more. The last 4 items are a checkbox and here you can choose to Show iCloud Status in System Tray, then there is a Help link and lastly a Account Details button and a Close button. The Account Details refers to your Apple ID. That's it, really only 3 things you can do, Sync your Contacts, Calendars and Tasks with Outlook, Sync your Bookmarks and set the options for Photostream. RE: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture
Then perhaps I'm not performing the correct gesture to inform VO that the camera mode is selected. Sometimes I get that little sound like you're moving an icon and sometimes not- but can't establish a pattern either way. Is it correct that a single tap is supposed to trigger the adjustable switch? VO says selector which means use a vertical flick to adjust. If focus is moving to another item, a vertical flick is not being used. It does not matter what you believe you are doing with your flick. The only thing that matters is what VO detects. If your vertical flick is not changing camera mode, activate the gesture training with a four-finger double-tap and practice the gesture(s) that do not seem to work consistently until they work properly 100% of the time. I like the new selector. The camera now has four modes. The only mode I have not yet been able to figure out is square mode. I will probably ask a sighted person about it. First, don't make the move too big - a half inch to an inch is enough, I find. Second, don't put your finger down and then flick or swipe, as that usually leads to Voiceover thinking you are touching rather than trying to perform a command. Instead, be making the flick gesture as your finger hits the screen, so that the flick or swipe is interpreted as what you intended from the start and there is less room for ambiguity. It sounds harder than it is, I promise. RE: Chess-wise 3 available in App Store
Hi again, Mich, I just did a search for Chess-Wise 3 in the App Store using the App Store app on my iPhone and found it fine in the Canadian app store. After I double tapped on Search I had 10 results. The first 3 are: Chess-Wise Free, Marcel Nijman Chess-Wise Online, Marcel Nijman Chess-Wise 3, Marcel Nijman Please note that the first result says Free as in not paid, not 3 as in the number 3. It almost sounds the same with Voiceover, but when I went to the first app and read the description it said that this app was replaced by Chess-Wise 3 and in any case it had not been updated since December 2011, over 2 years. I then went to the third search result and it is the correct Chess-Wise 3 people posted about and which was updated a week ago. Re: Announcing a revolutionary remote for iOS VoiceOver users
I certainly wish this product luck as it's always good to have choices. I have to say however that I just read through the manual and it made my head hurt. (lol) Maybe I'm just getting too old for this stuff, but I see a huge learning curve with this. As I said though, it's always great to have options and it might suit others just fine. I agree that the price seems pretty high. I'll pass for now but would love to hear others impressions if and when they buy one. Best Regards, Rick alfaro On 2/13/2014 7:33 AM, RobH. wrote: Some interesting bits on this, might suit some, but $129 is pretty steep by any standards. Thanks for this, I also don't understand how this remote would do the following. Quoted from the email below. These features enable RiVO users to use a greater number of apps every day compared to VoiceOver users without RiVO. Either an app is accessible or it is not. So how would a remote make this any different? I'm not meaning to slam the developer, but if one makes a statement such as this, one should give examples. Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture
Tapping once just sets Voiceover's focus. Flicking left or right to an item will do exactly the same. So, whether you though it directly or flick to it, as soon as Voiceover says something is adjustable, you can flick up or down with one finger to adjust it. -- Have a great day, Alex mehg...@gmail.com On Feb 13, 2014, at 11:25 AM, Don and Cher Bosch oneagleswin...@bellsouth.net wrote: Then perhaps I'm not performing the correct gesture to inform VO that the camera mode is selected. Creating Groups on iPad Air
Hi All, I have a pop 3 account with Earthlink which probably has nothing to do with my question. I'm using the email app that comes native on the iPad Air. I often send mail to a group of people. I know on my Windows XP computer how to put all the names into a group and give that group a name. In this case, it's a private joke list. Thus the name I just type in to the BCC field is Joke Friends. When I type Joke Friends in to the BCC field of the email program all the names and addresses of my joke friends automatically gets inserted automatically. Re: Creating Groups on iPad Air
Hi Isaac, I think you may have misunderstood or I explained what I wanted badly. I want to automate that process of not having to type in some 80 email addresses in to the BCC field. With Outlook Express, I can create a folder called joke friends and add all those 80 email addresses into that folder. Then when I want to send an email message to those 80 people in the BCC field, I just have to type the words joke friends. Then outlook express automatically adds in all those addresses to the BCC field. I was wondering if there were any to do the same thing in iOS. I hope this better explains what I'm after and thank you again for giving it a shot. Re: Announcing a revolutionary remote for iOS VoiceOver users
At least two of us have been through the manual, and can't see where it does anything for accessibility as such, though some of the key combinations could well be useful, but suspect we could do those things with ordinary palm size bt keyboards. Some users just feel more at ease with real buttons, so might appreciate this; but it is a much more restricted market than the developers guessed. Jmo, RobH. - Original Message - From: Donald L. Warning, cynicism to follow. Stating the price too early is a bad sales technique. You have to get the people excited, so excited about the product, just can't live without it. Then, the price won't be such a shock, or they will be more willing to stand it some way, they are so excited! RiVO gave him better access than he had ever had before to a desktop or iOS device. - RiVO will become a true part of my iPhone experience, and will make the iPhone so much easier to use. You have brought a wonderful device into our lives. - This little gadget will definitely change the way I work with my iPhone. My right arm is feeling better already. Re: Lords and Knights Update
Well mine would crash only when i tried to enter text into a reply in either the messages tab or the alliance forum. It stopped crashing when i reverted back to the previous version. It looks like they are putting out an update to fix issues with the version they just sent out though, so we'll have to see if that fixes this issue for me. I could use the character drawing method to write a reply in either the Message tab or the Alliance forum, but could not delete any character I had written with this method. Anyone else have issues with this update? I tried to email the support team for the app, but their form requires a graphicc to be entered to proceed and I could not get the audio piece of that to work. Re: Announcing a revolutionary remote for iOS VoiceOver users
I disagree. When I see people announcing products, and not announcing prices, I immediately put them on a block list, and pay no further attention to them. If the product was of good value, the price would be mentioned immediately. On Feb 13, 2014, at 2:09 PM, Arnold Schmidt arno...@mindspring.com wrote: Warning, cynicism to follow. Stating the price too early is a bad sales technique. You have to get the people excited, so excited about the product, just can't live without it. Re: are there any blue tuth ear peaces that are vo accessible that you could by say in a stor and not on line?
Even though a BT earphone may be A2DP compatible does not necessarily mean it will be fully functional. I've had several A2DP compatible earpieces only to discover that they had some serious limitations. Holland's Boy, Bill - Clothes make the man. Re: are there any blue tuth ear pieces that are vo accessible that you could by say in a stor and not on line?
finding a Bluetooth ear peace you can try out just isn't going to happen. Think of it like trying out a toilet seat before you buy it. Not 'gunna happen. I'm not trying to gross anybody out, it's just that an ear peace has an insert which goes in the ear canal. About a month or so back, I was in the market for an ear peace. I wanted one that could route the audio from my iPhone 5s regardless of what I was doing with my phone. Several good folks mentioned several ear peaces that could do what I wanted. After talking to them via private email, I finally setteled on the Plantronics Bluetooth Voyager Legend. Looking online, the price seemed to be 99 dollars. Shopping around, the lowest I could find it was 65.99 plus 9.99 shipping and handling. Amazon.com offered it for 69.99 and free shipping. It is a very nice ear peace and the audio quality is very good. Sense it's an ear peace and not head phones, the sound is mono. I wasn't interested in using it to listen to music. I've already got a very good set of Bose phones for music. I wanted something that gave me hands free opperation including hands free call answering. The good folks on the list came through. Lois was particularly knowledgable about the Legend. So, I would suggest letting the list know what you want in an ear peace and letting the group suggest possible choices that would fit your needs. I guess by trying it out, I meant to see if it would work with VO. I suppose that would be hard to do without having it in your ear. I do realize it wouldn't be possible to actually put something in your ear without buying it first. You could do research online, then call stores to see if they had the model you wanted. You can download our game, DigiTaps, for free from the Apple App Store and play! We are a group of accessibility researchers in the Computer Science Engineering Department at the University of Washington. We have created the iOS game DigiTaps to evaluate new accessible text entry methods. You may choose to stop playing or to delete the game at any time. Participant requirements: Participants must be at least 18 years old. Have you tried going to http://groups.google.com/group/viphone?hl=en (the link at the bottom of each message) and changing your membership settings to say you don't want email messages sent? I don't know what screen reader and web browser you use, but with Orca and Firefox, I follow the link above, select My Settings right above the list of messages in the broup, choose the Membership and Email settings and then select Don't send emails. After that, I just have to select the save option. BTW, a more specific subject line might help you get your question noticed. better contacts app
I am looking for a better more feature rich contacts app that works great with voiceover and easy to use. Some of the things I will need is: 1 all buttons labeled and easy to handle with voiceover as I will be sharing with with a friend who does not handle technology well. 2. merge duplicate contacts 3. handle groups and be able to manage them add/remove/groups and people with in the group 4 able to send groups sms, mms and email I tried Simpler Pro but a few of the buttons read funny and it just did not have a good feel to me. But if this is the app then I'll re download it and spend more time with it. Thank you -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. That means, Siri did not hear / process the last digit, so it only had the other digits. Re: Circulation request: Play an iPhone Game and Help Accessibility Research
There's a few not managed to play it and I never got to even download it. But numbers? remembering a phone number is up to ten, but this, I think, is dependent on it being presented in the 334 pattern. I get idiots over here trying all manner of patterns thinking they're making it simpler, like 2 digitts at a time, and can't remember them unless I can get it converted into the familiar template. Rhythm is all! A cCard pattern is 16, so long as it's the rhythm. But otherwise, as a one-off, there seems to be a cut-off point around 7 or 8 or so, where the number falls through entirely. Kay Hi everyone, We are recruiting volunteers to play a fun, accessible iPhone game, as part of an accessibility research study. You can download our game, DigiTaps, for free from the Apple App Store and play! We are a group of accessibility researchers in the Computer Science Engineering Department at the University of Washington. We have created the iOS game DigiTaps to evaluate new accessible text entry methods. The game will include a notice of informed consent so you can make sure that you want to participate in the study before you start playing. This study is completely voluntary. You may choose to stop playing or to delete the game at any time. Participant requirements: Participants must be at least 18 years old. Our research is targeted at people who are blind or low vision, so we encourage all blind and low vision people to participate. However, sighted people may participate as well. If you have any questions, please join our Google Group and post your questions at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mobileaccessibility You can download the DigiTaps game at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/digitaps/id722946578 Thanks! Hi On the other hand many gamers want precise and immediate interaction and there are plenty of game controllers for the idevices available. I doupt anyone has said that they just are not get used to the touchscreen:-) Unfortunately until Apple puts any effort to general keyboard usability on IOS devices these keypads do not help much except for making flicking and double tapping faster and more prddictable. Apples's 1D approach for screen navigation is extremely inefficient. 2D-way, exploring the screen with one finger is faster but for efficient use one heve to memorize all the controls on every screen of any application he/she uses. It is a bit unfair to compare mobile phones to desktop computers but even sighted ones works more efficiently with keyboard than mouse/touchscreen.
