Re: groups in contacts
I use Group Email. You can create distribution lists, add attachments, and even create a template if you use the same text a lot. It takes a little getting used to, but it is completely VoiceOver friendly and the developer responds to questions pretty quickly. Hello, For what it's worth, one of the reviewers of Cleaner said it used to be a different app, but the creators changed it to Cleaner, and the reviewer is quite sure it's a scam app. I don't know any more about it than that, but it sounds like it would be good to research this before installing it. I did install Cleaner, and, though it seems to work pretty well and the family excess of all, I have also noticed that my phone appears to be running a little slower. Thanks for the info, Anna. I think I will uninstall and try something else. Keith thanks for the info, Anna. I did install the program, and it seems to be fairly accessible. RE: Reading AccessNote Files on a Windows Machine
Hi, I just opened a file from AccessNote that I had put on my DropBox account on my PC using NoteTab Pro. I'll paste it in here in hopes that the formatting doesn't get too messed up by Outlook. It looks fine to me in NoteTab Pro. How The Internet Started In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot. And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com. And she said unto Abraham, her husband, Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent? And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, How, dear? And Dot replied, I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price. And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS). Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent. To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was known as Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures - Hebrew To The People (HTTP). And the young men did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS. And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land. And indeed did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks. And Dot did say, Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others. And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or eBay as it came to be known. He said, We need a name that reflects what we are. And Dot replied, Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators. YAHOO, said Abraham. And because it was Dot's idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com. Abraham's cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon startedusing Dot's drums to locate things around the countryside. It soon became known as God's Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE). That is how it all began. And that's the truth. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Craig Werner Sent: Saturday, February 15, 2014 10:40 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Reading AccessNote Files on a Windows Machine Hello, everyone. Trouble connecting to wifi with 2 different iPhones
Greetings. My wife and I are having trouble connecting to my in-law's wifi network. I have an iPhone 5 and she has a 4. We have tried restarting our phones, and I have deleted the network and then rejoined it. I also tried disconnecting the ethernet cable from the router, waiting 30 seconds, and then connecting again with no change. I am fairly certain that the wifi is not working since I have tried updating apps in the App Store, and when I start the updating and then return 10 to 15 minutes later, the apps have not updated. And the app update is about 10 MB in size, so it shouldn't take any time at all if on wifi. Even though the status bars on our phones say that we are connected, I don't think we really are. Anyone have any ideas? Other devices in my in-law's house connect just fine, like the computers and laptops. Interesting. I get no results for WestWood One. On their web site they list an audio stream for mobile devices and the iPhone stream just plays silence. A journey through history
Hello iPhoners! I was pretty bored today, waiting to watch the olympics on tv, and fining nothing but cartoons and cooking hsows, when i decided to clean out my C-drive. I found three very old podcasts about the iPhone! They were done through the Maccessibility/screenless switchers group. The podcasts introduced the brand new, revolutionary, iPhone 3gs! On my PC their dated 06/28/2009. I wonder if the AppleVis community would be interested in these podcasts. Its a great look back at iPhone history, back when everything was new and apps were mostly uncharted territory for us blind folks...right around the time this very listed was created! If anyone wants them, drop me a line, or tel me how to submit them to applevis. Please again note, the podcasts content is not mine, I didn't participate or create the content...I was just lucky enough not to have deleted them! Re: Trouble connecting to wifi with 2 different iPhones
Try resetting all network settings by going to settings general reset reset network settings. Do this on one or both devices and see if this helps. Regards Chris On 15/02/2014 19:31, Wayne Merritt wrote: Greetings. Re: adjust volumes
I may have misspoken. I don't find that setting, either, and I could have been sure I found it in the past. Sorry about that. You can put the VO volume in the rotor and adjust it that way, though. Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE
I really wish that the Bard app would let you start listening to a talking book on your iPhone and let's say you came in the house and picked up your iPad and opened the bard app there and hit the play button and the book would start playing from where you left off on your iPhone. The only way I know how to do it is to have a copy of the same book on both devices and make note of the time when you hit the stop button such as 3 hours, 27 minutes. Then when you open the same book on another device you have to jump to that same exact same time. It's doable just a pain where you sit. Re: Trouble connecting to wifi with 2 different iPhones
Hi, Chris writes: Try resetting all network settings by going to settings general reset reset network settings. Do this on one or both devices and see if this helps. I had a similar issue with my 5S, but with my 5S, the phone said that wi-fi was on and that I was connected to LTE instead of the wi-fi. If I went into wi-fi under settings, selected the local wi-fi network at my office, and double-tapped it, I was shown the IP address, which was something like 169.254.xxx.xxx where xxx was some number that I don't recall at the moment. What's noteworthy here is that if you encounter a situation like that and notice a similar IP address, you're not truly connected to the wi-fi or local area network. I had something similar happen when trying to connect my Braillenote to wi-fi and ran into this issue. As Chris suggested, you could try resetting network settings and see what happens. In my case, that didn't resolve the issue; I had to reset all settings and reconfigure my phone, which, needless to say, was a pain in the tail. But all of my settings are back in place, and everything's working satisfactorily. Hope this helps. Tom -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Hi Craig, If I remember right, AccessNote files opened in Notepad don't show end-of-line characters, but they're fine if you open them in WordPad or Word. Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE
I have had it happen a few times, but infrequently enough that I do not remember specifically the last incident. As was pointed out by another poster, it seems to happen more frequently with books that have been converted from cassette, when a track change announcement is given. But then, when I get to the point again, that track announcement is not announced, and the book doesn't skip back. This may be a hard bug for them to fix, being that it is very inconsistent. Plus, it has happened less frequently with books that were digital from the beginning. Comcast with i-devices
Hi all. I am going to be helping a friend set up her iPad when she gets it on Wednesday. She has a gmail account but her primary one is Comcast. When I googled for information about Comcast it talked mostly about pop but there was something about an iMap beta. I also found information about apps for Comcast. Even though she can see, I will need her to work with something that is accessible for me because I will be helping her over the phone and she really has to have things explained very concretely. Could somebody with Comcast tell me how you are setting up your email in Apple mail on the iPhone or iPad or if you are using an alternative app? Thanks. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! And now, every day: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I don't know if this has been mentioned but you can subscribe to APH's program to get talking editions of Newsweek and Reader's Digest. A while back, someone on this list mentioned that they had.a bluetooth headset with a mic that folded into the headset when not in use. Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE
Hi, I have also experienced this problem. For me, it tends to happen when I move a long way backwards in a book. For example, if I fall asleep and the next day, I back up maybe 30 minutes or so to get back to where I was before falling asleep, it is likely that at some point while listening, the book will suddenly jump back to some where in the previous chapter. It is very frustrating and disconcerting. RE: Bluetooth headset with foldable mic mentioned on this list.
Hi Ari, I think several headsets do this, but I can say for sure that my Jabra Supreme works this way. If you fold the little boom microphone the headset is not just in standby, but it is turned off. If your phone rings and you want to pick up with the headset and you don't already have it unfolded and on your ear, you can just unfold it and that will turn the headset on and pick up the call. If you are already wearing it on your ear youc an just say Answer to answer the call or you can push on the main button to answer/hang up. The Supreme is definitely a larger unit compared to some others, but I find it comfortable and it is on your ear, not in your ear. It is loud and clear. However, it does lack the ability to Play/Pause music or audio books so if I were buying a new headset now I would probably take a very serious look at the Plantronics Voyager Legend since it seems to be one of the few single earpieces if not the only one which has Play/Pause functionality. A while back, someone on this list mentioned that they had.a bluetooth headset with a mic that folded into the headset when not in use. Folding the mic into the headset would cause it to go into standby or something, and when unfolded, the headset would be ready to be used with the phone again. Can anyone remembre the name of this headset? Thanks, Ari -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: adjust volumes
You can't, music will always fade a bit to give Voiceover priority. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Berry Sent: Saturday, February 15, 2014 2:17 PM To: Vi Phone Subject: Re: adjust volumes Similar to this same question where do you set volumes so that say yu do not want your music to fade out as you use VO? I need this for a radio show. On Feb 15, 2014, at 1:18 PM, Jim Ruby j...@blindsea.com wrote: Hi, where can I change vo to not be adjusted by the volume buttons? I looked in settings general accessability voiceover and saw no such option. In settings sounds there is only to not have the ringer and settings sounds notifications not be effected by the volume keys. The simplest way to deal with this is to play something and set the volume while it's playing. You can set VO and alerts not to be adjusted with the volume buttons. I do have the ringer volume at 100% where I wish them to be and have it set so the volume buttons will not affect it. Adjusting the tones and other volumes like text and the start/stop sound when using siri or dictation always change when I change voiceover volume and yes I have tried to set vo with the volume buttons and roter with same results. I must be missing something or not doing something quite right, or I am just doomed to have a phone with volumes that will be changing all over the place. Also is there a way to not have the audio duck when voiceover is speaking if ones does not want this? Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
