 Evening all

Subject says it, Firefox has come to iOS and is accessible with VoiceOver
with a minor issue or few along with some nice tweaks. Please check out
 the entry at
 www.applevis.com
I tried it, and like it.

Hi,
It is through standard navigation. I’ll have to see if it really is like that
or if i’m doing something wrong somewhere. The links should be visible because
Safari on the Mac for example reports them as links so should be no problems.

2015-11-13 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi

Thanks much. Yes, it still has ios 8.4.1 on it, and I am planning to update
this over the weekend, and will then see what happens with the charger. I will
also try connecting it to the computer when I am doing the update, and will see
if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks for helping.

  Hi Jan,

What version of iOS is on this phone? If it is an older version, you could
upgrade to iOS 9.1 and see if this makes a difference. If not I’d try both a
different charger and a different cable, the problem could be with any of the
involved products, the wall adapter, the cable or the phone. O f course it’s
always best to first illuminate the easy stuff especially since a lot of people
have iPhones one can usually find somebody who can lend an adapter or cable.

  Hi Sieghard

Thanks for answering this. It was indeed the wall charger, and I will see
what will happen now after setting the phone up. It makes no sense to me
having the connector fit both ways, but the phone only wanting to charge one
way. The connector is not marked, so one would not have known that, and then I
would have expected it to work like my older iphone 4s, where the cable only
fits one way. Thank you for clarifying this.

I agree you should try a different cable and, if you were charging with the
cable plugged into a laptop try a different USB port or, as Feliciano
suggested, try the wall adapter.

I have, however, heard from a friend in Germany that his 5S charges with
the cable plugged in either way, but he can only sync if he plugs it in a
certain way. If I had been him and if this was consistant across cables, I
would have returned the phone since to me this is a defect.

Hi,

this is not normal behavior. Are you using the Apple charging cable, if so
it should charge no matter the position. Is this with the wall charger, I would
try a hard reset and see if that gets it working A hard reset will not
erase content or settings, simply refreshes the operating system. Hold the wake
sleep button and home button for about 7 seconds to do a hard reset. Try
another cable if you have a space, or better yet take it to apple if it is

Hi

I certainly will try that, have found that to happen when using other equipment
as well. I sometimes have a way of forcing a thing to fit, and I am careful
not to do that with the phone, as it is a delicate piece of equipment. Will
certainly give that a go.

  hi,

For what it's worth, I had problems with mine. I don't know what the problems
were, but think it was probably that you had to put the plug into the phone
rather more definite later than I was doing. I do not see the problem now, so I
think it must be a case of getting it bedded in. Worth a try! I went to the
Apple Store with mine and, of course, they got it working straightaway. I had
tried a number of times! Anyway now it is fine, so I suggest you have another
go and make sure that plug is properly in

I hope this might help! If it doesn't, of course, take the phone back!On 12

2015-11-13 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. No, it is indeed a brand new phone, so I would hope
that the latter won't be true. Will see what the phone does after updating it
this weekend. Here where I live in South Africa, East London being the city,
we don't even have an apple store, so the phone goes back to the network
carier, and I truely hope that won't be necessary.

Thanks all the same for the advice on the port.

The original post talking about the iPhone 5S only charging with the
lightning connector turned one way said the phone was new. Was the phone a
brand new device or was it only new to your household? If the latter and the
phone was previously used by another, it is possible that some lint or other
detritus has gotten into the lightning port on the phone and is affecting its
charging. I've had this happen with both my previous iPhone 5 and my current
iPhone 6 and when the port gets stuff in it, the results when plugging in a
lightning cable are unpredictable. I've gotten unauthorized cable messages,
charging only working when the cable is plugged a certain way, and the cable
not staying connected until taking my phones to the apple store to have the
port cleaned out.

I wanted to mention this in case it might be a possibility.

  Good luck.

I agree you should try a different cable and, if you were charging with
the cable plugged into a laptop try a different USB port or, as Feliciano
suggested, try the wall adapter.

Are you using the Apple charging cable, if
so it should charge no matter the position. Is this with the wall charger, I
would try a hard reset and see if that gets it working A hard reset will
not erase content or settings, simply refreshes the operating system. Hold the

another cable if you have a space, or better yet take it to apple if it is

Hi there,

I am just beginning to get to grips with it also.

It would seem that you can add words to your time so I have just set a reminder
for my doctor's appointment today. I wrote 10 AM doctor. it doesn't seem to
matter whether you've got the time or an explanation first.

If you want to change that reminder, the easiest way for us to do it I think is
to delete it and then add a new one. It is quicker that way! At least, it is
for me. Once you understand the layout and know where your reminder is, it is
quite quick to find it.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if it does!Carol P

Re: having trouble finding translation

2015-11-13 Thread Patti Johnson
Thanks, Anna, but again, I don't see where it gives you the option to
turn it off or on, I don't see the words auto translation.
I am looking at Braille input. Under translation it just give me
english ueb and united kingom. Should I be looking somewhere else,
should I do something first to see where it says something about Auto
translation? I am sorry to appear so dense, but I have had nothing but
trouble since the updates, getting input to work on My Focus, no matter
which input I use.
I wonder if it's the display itself, but it worked before. I even put my
typing keyboard on "nothing". I am still not getting anywhere,
especiall using my Ipad. What I want to do is enter my creditentials
for xm and I could do it on the phone, but not on the ipad, and both
have the most recent updates.

Could it be that app doesn't work on the ipad any more?
I'm jsut frustrated, I'm sorry.

Re: having trouble finding translation

2015-11-13 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

With auto-translation off, text is translated when you press Space or Enter.
You only need to press Space with dots 4-5 if you enter text and don't want to
press Space or Enter.

Best,
Anna

Re: having trouble finding translation

2015-11-13 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Patti,

The auto-translation setting is in the Braille Display Input section of Braille
settings. If you turn it on, it works anytime you are using a braille input
mode that involves translation, i.e., contracted and six-dot.

Best,
Anna

That has happened to me a few times recently. Also using an iPhone 5 and the

I found the cure that worked for me to be to completely shut down the phone

I hope that works for you.

problem with voice dream

2015-11-13 Thread don bishop
I'm using an iphone 6 so plus running ios9.1.
Having a problem with voice dream. It crashed whenever I tried to run it. I
uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked perfectly the first time I ran it.
However, every time I have tried it since then, the program crashes.
Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,

Re: Facebook Pages app and working with a page on iPhone

2015-11-13 Thread Colin McDonald
I find using the FB app on my phone, the mobile site on my pc, and the regular
desktop site, while blowted, all work quite well.
If you don’t like facebook that’s something else entirely, but it’s not
inaccessible.
Now, if FB would just breakdown and allow for RSS feeds of pages and groups, an
easy way to select all your friends for events and invites then we’d be
laughing.
>From what I remember, you have to use the desktop facebook site, and when you
>access your page, you can find out who has liked your page via one of the
>hover menus...remember guys, the facebook app is designed as a simplified,
>dumbed down version of the site and does not offer all the features and
>functions of the desktop site.
Especially when you need to access detailed information or make very specific
setting changes, you do have to use the main desktop website and not the app or
mobile version of the site.

If the Facebook Accessibility team are so good, why is Facebook such a mess to
work in full page, mobile site and on the iPhone? There a lot of questions on
my part, not the least part why I am unable to fix errors on my profile page,
errors FB made, collecting items from friends I have on FB and putting their
info in my profile. I can’t fix it, my late husband could not fix it, it
appears that using a screen reader it can’t be done. That is a major for me
since lately I have been getting friend requests with lots of wrong
impressions, people who don’t know what “blind” means, people who think that
because of that I should not live alone, have ever had a job …

Annoying to say the least. I’d dump it except it is the only way a few family
members communicate, even posting a picture with no description lets me know
they are alive and posting!

Thanks, Anna, I'll try again.
I sure thought I'd done all this correctly, but maybe I haven't.

For typing in a login, you're probably best off if you choose uncontracted

use it and contracted braille in any edit field.

I hope that's of some help.

I like both, but prefer the iOS way. However, recent updates to iTunes has made
the controls in the Apple Music web interface accessible to the point it's
quite clear the button(s) will play the song, album or playlist. Before that,
it would just say button, it being screen readers on either platform, including

I find using the FB app on my phone, the mobile site on my pc, and the regular

If you don’t like facebook that’s something else entirely, but it’s not
inaccessible.

Now, if FB would just breakdown and allow for RSS feeds of pages and groups, an
easy way to select all your friends for events and invites then we’d be
laughing.

Especially when you need to access detailed information or make very specific

Hello all, if you have not updated to the latest version of the ADT pulse app,
I would recommend not to. So far it seems very inaccessible. If this is
different for any of you please let me know how you have worked around it.

RE: Facebook Pages app and working with a page on iPhone

2015-11-13 Thread Rose Combs

On this page, it says that I have 173 “likes.” I’d like to know how I can find

Re: Facebook Pages app and working with a page on iPhone

2015-11-13 Thread Colin McDonald
I’m sorry you are having trouble with it, but both are very easy to do even
with the mobile version of the facebook site.
Posting is about as easy as it can get with the IPhone app, but updating your
profile has to be done on a computer either via the m.facebook.com site or the
desktop site.
It’s not really difficult to figure out if you just familiarize yourself with
it.
I use facebook for work and personal, everyday, with my IPhone using VO and my
PC using JAWS and there is nothing I can’t do on facebook.
It can seem a bit overwhelming, especially the desktop site because of all the
headings and stuff they cram on there, but if you use the mobile site on your
computer, it is far simpler. Also, adding people to your close friends list
puts them into your notifications feed which makes browsing recent status
updates and reading comments far easier and simpler.
Does it read your mind to know what you want and how you want it, no lol, but
you can customize your experience quite easily.

I find using the FB app on my phone, the mobile site on my pc, and the regular
desktop site, while blowted, all work quite well.

If you don’t like facebook that’s something else entirely, but it’s not
inaccessible.

Now, if FB would just breakdown and allow for RSS feeds of pages and groups, an
easy way to select all your friends for events and invites then we’d be
laughing.

Especially when you need to access detailed information or make very specific
setting changes, you do have to use the main desktop website and not the app or
mobile version of the site.

If you have auto translation set to off, to translate the text before

I can't believe I was just not getting this. I guess it takes a hammer

Re: ADT pulse app update has broken accessibility

2015-11-13 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
their web portal is still very accessible. their app has become less so but
is better than it was in July. I wouldn't say it's inaccessible merely that
the interface with its new tiled format is a bit less intuitive but still
can be dealt with if one must but I myself prefer making changes via the web
portal into which one can sign in and do such tasks as well.

If you're unhappy with the current form of the app in terms of its
accessibility do voice your opinions to ADT directly as many others have. I
hope that helps.

Robin

possible to change settings using the ADT website with Safari or a screen

Hello all, if you have not updated to the latest version of the ADT pulse
app, I would recommend not to. So far it seems very inaccessible. If this is
different for any of you please let me know how you have worked around it.

Sometimes it does feel like we are always fighting an up hill battle.
If they could just keep accessibility in mind. It is like a
roollercoaster we just have to keep plugging away.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for this, it took me quite a while, but I did finally manage to find it.
It is, however, at best a pain in the neck and certainly a step back from how
easy it was before where I could just find the temperature and then swipe right
to read all the other measurements.
I also don't see the "Indoor Comfort" value any more. Yes, the CO2 level is
still there, but I always liked how I could quickly see how the app analyzed the indoor
air quality taking into account temperature, CO2 level, humidity and noise level.
I will definitely take a bit of time today and write to Carlos from Netatmo and
hopefully they are still committed to keeping the app accessible especially now
that quite a few people purchased it. They say now that the background of the
app changes depending on weather and that for sighted people there is an
indicator as to whether temperature, air pressure and so on are trending up or
down and it would be nice if they found a way to make this information
accessible. They did a nice job, but beyond that initial work it feels they
haven't really done much to improve accessibility.

Iphone 5C and Apex

2015-11-13 Thread Deb Lewis
Hello:
I support a large number of Iphone users with different models of
phone and different Braille displays. Today I was working with a
client who has a 5C and an Apex Perkins model. In Messages or in the
Contacts app, when he goes to enter a new contact or select from
existing ones, the Braille display locks up. He can't write and he
can't move the display of the Apex. In fact we have to restart it all.
I paired the same Apex with a 5S and all worked perfectly every time
in the Messages and Contacts apps.
Does anyone know if there's an issue with the 5C in particular? I
can't replicate the problem on the 5S, the 6 or the 6S Plus but I
consistently lock up on the 5C. The phone seems to work fine in all
other respects. All the phones have the latest software upgrade, and
all have the same settings for Braille etc.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

VoiceOver stuttering [was "Re: please I am in trouble"]

2015-11-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
As others have said, try closing the apps in the App Switcher and
powering off and on your phone. I'd also suggest turning off the
automatic updating of apps. I noticed that on my 4S, VoiceOver would
stutter when my apps were being updated, so I changed this to just
having my apps updated manually. This way I know when I'm using data,
and can also update my apps when I won't be using my phone so much. I'm
guessing installing apps is pretty CPU intensive, and maybe you're
iPhone 5 is struggling to keep up with installing apps in the background
and generating synthetic speech in the foreground, just like my 4S does.

have a variety of TV channels for streaming. Has anybody used this? To me it
doesn't seem to be accessible with VoiceOver. If this can't be used, does
anybody know of any other apps for streaming a variety of TV channels?
Thanks.

Subject: Iphone 5C and Apex

Hello:
I support a large number of Iphone users with different models of phone and
different Braille displays. Today I was working with a client who has a 5C and
an Apex Perkins model. In Messages or in the Contacts app, when he goes to
enter a new contact or select from existing ones, the Braille display locks up.
He can't write and he can't move the display of the Apex. In fact we have to
restart it all.
I paired the same Apex with a 5S and all worked perfectly every time in the
Messages and Contacts apps.
Does anyone know if there's an issue with the 5C in particular? I can't
replicate the problem on the 5S, the 6 or the 6S Plus but I consistently lock
up on the 5C. The phone seems to work fine in all other respects. All the
phones have the latest software upgrade, and all have the same settings for
Braille etc.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Deb

Table index

2015-11-13 Thread Mary Otten
I wonder if the table index that we see in certain apps, such as the artist
listing in Apple music, is a voice over feature. I assumed it was part of the
program. I am asking because it seems to be nowhere present on the android side
of Apple music, which makes navigating an artist list a major pain in the
backside. So, the question, is it a VO feature or a feature of the program ?

Re: Can't synchronize NOTES between iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and Mac mini running Yosemite

2015-11-13 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Kevin,

My guess is that you chose to upgrade notes on your iOS devices after you
upgraded to iOS 9. Once you upgrade your Mac to El Capitan, you'll be able to
upgrade notes there as well, and then they'll sync with your iOS devices again.

Best,
Anna

Re: Pluto app on Apple TV?

2015-11-13 Thread Ryan Mann
I've played with it a little more on the Apple TV. I managed to pick a channel
and play it. I think I had to tap a couple times and a channel started
playing. Then I hit the Back button and then started flicking down. Each time,
I flicked down, VoiceOver said a different channel name. Then I tapped. After
the channel started, I had to turn off VoiceOver so it would stop talking. I'm
glad I figured out how to play a channel, but the accessibility definitely
needs improvement. Is this an Apple accessibility problem or a Pluto problem?

Can't synchronize NOTES between iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and Mac mini running Yosemite

2015-11-13 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I have a Mac Mini running Yosemite, an iPhone 6 and an iPad 2 Air, or is it an
iPad Air 2, both of which run iOS 9.1. I used to have synchronized NOTES apps
on my iPhone and Mac Mini where I could start a NOTE on one device and finish
it on another. this was before I acquired the iPad.

Currently, my NOTES synch automatically between my two iOS devices. but my
NOTES app on my Mac doesn’t seem to have any of the notes I’ve written on
either of the other two devices after September of this year. that probably
corresponds to updating to iOS 9 or 9.1. Not sure.

I’m guessing that there’s a setting in iCloud Preferences on the Mac which is
not set correctly, since I did have notes synchronized up to a point. Can
someone tell me where, and on what device, to check for settings?

thanks,
Kevin

Yes it makes sense, and I am thrilled to report that I got accomplished
what I have been trying to do since I bought my ipad.
I can't believe I was just not getting this. I guess it takes a hammer
to my head sometimes to get through to me! Thanks for all your patience
and putting up with me.

HI Patti,

How you have output set depends on what you want to see on your
braille display. It has no effect on what you type or how what you
type is translated. And whether auto-translation is on or not is
irrelevant if you're using uncontracted 8-dot braille because there
is no translation when you use that setting. The only thing
auto-translation does is, if you type some text and haven't pressed
Space or Enter, if it's on, the text will be translated after a
couple of seconds. If it's off, the text will only be translated if
you press Space, Enter, or Space with dots 4-5. I hope that makes sense.

Anna

Hi Patti,

Go to Settings/General/VoiceOver/Braille.

Choose Braille Display Input.

Your choices should be Uncontracted 6-dot braille (which is Grade 1
braille), uncontracted 8-dot brialle (which is computer braille,
with no translation), and Contracted Braille (which is translated
braille, using UEB or English Grade 2 or whichever code you've
chosen). The final choice on this screen is Automatic Braille
Translation. It is dimmed if you've chosen uncontracted 8-dot braille.

For typing in a login, you're probably best off if you choose
uncontracted 8-dot braille and type the login using computer
braille. That way, there's no translation involved. Once you have a
feel for how translation works, you can use it and contracted
braille in any edit field.

I hope that's of some help.

Anna

I am looking at Braille input. Under translation it just give me

else, should I do something first to see where it says something
about Auto translation? I am sorry to appear so dense, but I have
had nothing but trouble since the updates, getting input to work
on My Focus, no matter which input I use.
I wonder if it's the display itself, but it worked before. I even
put my typing keyboard on "nothing". I am still not getting
anywhere, especiall using my Ipad. What I want to do is enter my
creditentials for xm and I could do it on the phone, but not on
the ipad, and both have the most recent updates.
Could it be that app doesn't work on the ipad any more?
I'm jsut frustrated, I'm sorry.

I suggest you shut it down the official way by holding Home and Power together

get it to start up again.

having trouble finding translation

2015-11-13 Thread Patti Johnson
Thanks, Scott, that is what i did, but didn't find continuous or
whatever it says. But I guess it works. The other problem I am having
is when I put in my password and then hit space, it gives it an extra
character. and no matter which output I use, when i try to put in the
at sign and period on my email address it gives it different symbols,
and extra letters. I f eel so stupid, why can't I do this right?

Hi patty.
automatic braille translation doesn't have to do with the language, it
has to do with whether the translation occurs on a slight delay, or
only after you press the spacebar. Find it under

input.
