Hi Marie,

As Robin said, even the current, newest Play 5 still has the 3.5mm line-in so
hooking up anything like a Plextalk, VictorReader Stream or even a CD player is
no problem. If you ha multiple Sonos Players whatever you connected to that
Play 5 would also be available on all other Sonos Players.

I think the Play 5 is probably more versatile than the Playbar, it really is
meant to be a TV speaker.

Just one thing I’d like to add and that is that there is a tuning option to
optimize the Play 5 to a particular room. Sonos calls this “TruePlay” but if
you want to do this you will need sighted help, it is not accessible if
Voiceover is running.

Also, FYI, while the new Play 5 has no longer a headphone jack, it is supposed
to sound much better than the older ones.

No, Doug Lee is a scrit writer who writes scripts for Jaws, there is no
provision for scripts in Voiceover.

What exactly is the problem with Whats App, I recently used it and it seems to
work just fine and I didn’t encounter any accessibility issues.

RE: sound hound vs shazam?

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Arnold,

What exactly do you mean by "it is unable to do it if I am listening via my
phone's speaker"?
I just played Maggie May by Rod Stewart on my Sonos system in the bedroom. I
asked SIRI "What song is this", SIRI said "OK, let me listen" and it made the
beeps again when it's listening and after about 3 or 4 seconds it said "I'm
pretty sure this is Maggie May by Rod Stewart, but please don't ask me to sing
it".

Now, there is some inconsistency here because a while back I asked SIRI what
song was playing and it would persistently tell me the song that was queued up
to play on my iPhone instead of going into listening mode so it could listen to
music externally.
Today when I just did this I started playing Hotel California on my iPhone and
then I asked SIRI again and each time no matter how I asked SIRI would start
listening wanting to tell me what song it heard instead of telling me what was
currently playing on my phone. I even asked "What song is currently playing on
my iPhone" and all to no avail.
I find SIRI does really well identifying songs that are playing externally, but
I should still be able to ask SIRI what is playing on my phone, too. This is
just one more example showing on the one hand how smart SIRI can be but also
how dum and limited it ccan be.

Sieghard

And, I have observed it work the other way, too. Unfortunately though, there
have been more times when neither of them knew what the song was.
When this happened, the skeptic in me wondered if they both used the same
database? I hope not.] And if that be true, I am sure neither would admit it.

One more reason to have at least one of these apps on your phone: When I ask
Siri to identify a song, it is unable to do it if I am listening via my phone's
speaker. Both the apps can identify a song when it is playing through the
phone's speaker.

RE: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Ron,

It is hard to say if you would find it sounds as good. Playbars in my opinion
do sound differently than a set of good speakers connected to a good amplifier
and sitting 8 feet apart. Having a Sonos Playbar with Sub and rear surrounds
does sound great, just a Playbar by itself definitely won’t give you as good of
a soundstage and probably not as good as a base. For me having less clutter and
less cables still with very good sound for about $2,000 Canadian was worth it
since I also have my 20-year old, but still very high-end system with Sonic
Frontiers tube amp and digital-analogue converter, custom-built speakers and
subwovers in a separate room in the basement so if I really want to listen to
pure music I go there. But even there the source of the music is a $400 Sonos
Connect and no longer the $2,500 Sonic Frontiers CD Transport. I think
especially in a smaller apartment a Sonos Playbar/Sub/Play 1 surround setup
would sound more than good, but the only one who can decide this is yourself.

As for hooking up a CD player to the Playbar that is not directly possible or
maybe I should say it is possible if your CD player has an optical output and
you don’t mind unplugging the TV and plugging in the CD Player. The Playbar has
a single optical input and is designed to be hooked up to a TV and of course
most TV’s have multiple HDMI, optical and analogue inputs, but that also means
your TV would have to be on if your CD player was connected via the TV.

Having said that, I haven’t use a CD player in 6 or 7 years since once I got my
Sonos system I ripped all my CD’s to a network attached hard drive in lossless
FLAC format. The whole point of Sonos is that you access your music digitally
from your computer’s library or of course you access all the online content
from Tune In, iHeart (free) or tons of other paid services like Spotify,
Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music, Google Music and many more. As far as I am
concerned the days of hooking up all these sources like CD Player, a turn
table, maybe some sort of digital music player and so on are past. I probably
haven’t bought a CD in years because nowadays if I really want to buy music I
buy it on iTunes but lately I’m rarely even doing that because I have an Apple
Music subscription so I can access anything iTunes has anytime I want.

The Playbar is approx. 37 inches long, maybe 8 inches tall and 3 inches thick.
As Les pointed out, it has 9 speakers with a couple firing off to the sides,
others are firing up and so on. You can read the exact configuration with
respect to how many are tweeters, how many are mid-range drivers etc. on the
Sonos website. The Playbar can sit flat or it can be mounted under the TV so
the approx. 8 inches are the height, the 37 inches always is of course the left
to right and the 3 inches is how thick it is front to back if it is mounted
under the TV.

Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

I did not read yet about the playbar. Can you give me an idea of the difference
in sound I would have against my high end Yamaha which, as you well said, is
not very accessible at all except for basic functions.

For instance, could I plug in my CD player into the playbar? How large is it?
Does it include speakers. I have now moved to a smaller apartment and, in time,
I would like to modernize and go smaller. I have 2 large Rega speakers, 2
medium size Mission speakers and a subwover and all that takes a lot of space.
I have to say that my set-top box is plugged into my sound system so that the
TV sounds very good. In time, I would also like to get an Apple TV. Would it go
into the Sonos Playbar?

A lot to think about. My sound system is about 8 years old and still working
very well for now. Would it be a waste for now to get the Connect and then use
it later on as you are using yours? My bedroom is very small so I’m
wondering if the Play1 speakers would be enough.

I guess I’ll have to find a Sonos dealer in Montreal to see if I can go and
listen.

Hi Ron,

What you describe will work fine. The question is how old your Yamaha system is
and your end goal. I bought a high-end Sony surround receiver in 2009 which at
the time was $1,500 and since I already had a Sonos Connect I did exactly what
you are planning to do. I had two front, a centre and two rear in-ceiling
speakers hooked up, but no Subwover. 3 years ago I ended up caving in and I
ordered a Playbar, Sonos Su and 2 Play 1 speakers as rear speakers and I have
never looked back. My living room gained more space since my two front

2016-03-11 Thread Eva Abbas
Hello listers,

I hope everybody is doing well. I have a question for you please. Is
there a specialist who takes care of voiceover and the applications that are
used by iPhone such as whatsapp? Every time we install an update in whatsapp,
we have a difficulty with voiceover. For example, I know there is Doug Lee for
skype and JAWS. Is there someone similar for whatsapp and voiceover?
Thanks for any answer

Hi,
Ah and that my friend you can have with a Play:5 first or 2nd generation. As I
said it does have an auxiliary input jack so have patch cord and your wish is
their command. You merely select line in source in the app and you can start
it playing. All you need to do is plug it into one speaker and away you go. If
it’s part of a stereo pair grouping the audio will then come out of both
speakers seamlessly.
I hope that helps.

do you still thin a good starting point is the Play5 or would the play bar be a
better beginning?Marie

Just one thing I’d like to add and that is that there is a tuning option to
optimize the Play 5 to a particular room. Sonos calls this “TruePlay” but if
you want to do this you will need sighted help, it is not accessible if
Voiceover is running.

Also, FYI, while the new Play 5 has no longer a headphone jack, it is supposed
to sound much better than the older ones.

Hi,

Yes and yes. Set up is a breeze and poses no problems for blind or visually
impaired users no matter which model you get in my experience. Once your
library is indexed by the sonos system then you could play anything you might
have in terms of sound files from your computer.

the only difference between first and 2nd generation play:5 for instance is the
location of the button you press to initiate its detection by the system. In
first gen it’s on top of the unit whereas in the newer 2nd generation it’s on
the back of the unit. It’s nearly flush with the back of the unit but still
detectable by touch once you know to look for it. I don’t think you’d have any
trouble should you choose to try one; and the Play:5 still has the auxiliary
input jack as well. I just thought I’d mention that.

I hope that helps.

2016-03-11 Thread englishrider91
My biggest issue, and this may have changed with the later model of the griffin
survivor cases is that when you put them in The clip, axis to the charging cord
is completely blocked. I liked the OtterBox defender cases as well, but I've
heard that the model for the 6S and 6S plus have quality issues. If you want a
case with the belt clip, where the screen can face out, you may want to take a
look at this. I'm not sure if they have it in the plus size, but it's worth
looking.

And, I have observed it work the other way, too. Unfortunately though,
there have been more times when neither of them knew what the song was.
When this happened, the skeptic in me wondered if they both used the same

it.

One more reason to have at least one of these apps on your phone: When I
ask Siri to identify a song, it is unable to do it if I am listening via my
phone's speaker. Both the apps can identify a song when it is playing
through the phone's speaker.

Re: what can I do or is my home button just broken

2016-03-11 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

I'm almost certain you shouldn't be in the market for a new phone. If
the same thing is happening when you use a bluetooth keyboard &
braille display we can rule out a hardware issue with the home button,
but I admit that it does sound weird. It's a bit of a pain to do, but
at this stage I'd be considering starting completely fresh - E.G.
erasing the phone via iTunes, manually transfering your music over and
manually downloading all the apps you require. Don't just restore the
phone from an iCloud backup.

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
Ah and that my friend you can have with a Play:5 first or 2nd generation. As I
said it does have an auxiliary input jack so have patch cord and your wish is
their command. You merely select line in source in the app and you can start
it playing. All you need to do is plug it into one speaker and away you go. If
it’s part of a stereo pair grouping the audio will then come out of both
speakers seamlessly.
I hope that helps.

I hope that helps.

that there was no output jack on this speaker? I was under the impressions that
it did have a headphone jack but wonder if it was removed in the newer model.
This is a real turn off for me. I guess I should have bought one earlier.

The otterbox defender cases are great but there is also the Griffin Survivor

but I do prefer to Griffin. Here it is at Amazon:

Hi.

I’ve been a happy iPhone user since May 2009. I’ve gone from a 3gs to 4, to
5c, and finally to a 6s plus. Each phone has been a
little different, but I’ve learned about them. I’m looking for information on
the 6s plus, in order to use it more effectively.
Anybody know of a good resource to learn about it?

Also, I’m looking for a good protective case for my new iPhone. I’ve been a
happy user of the Otterbox Defender case, and I’m
leaning toward that one. If anybody knows of a better case, I’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Have a blessed day.

GO CATS!

I ordered my play bar and sub from Summers directly. They have a 45 day return
policy. Also, they threw in a Sonos bridge at no charge. This plugs in to an
existing router so that you can set up your Sonos system on it's own network.

Re: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Terje Strømberg
Listen before you buy. Or be sure to have a return policy. This is true with
all audio hifi gear.

I heard rumors that Sonos was looking at developing an online backup solution
of playlists made within the Sonos app. From for example Tidal, Spotify and
apple music and hard drive into a single playlist in the Sonos app. A backup in
«my account» in Sonos online. Have this happened yet?

It is possible to use a play1, 3 or 5 as a backup if you don’t reset one of
theese. Choose connect to excisting network after reset of a device. Did not
get an answer about online backup from support. Therefore, i ask here.

Take care

Subject: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for
it.

Hi.

I’ve been a happy iPhone user since May 2009. I’ve gone from a 3gs to 4, to
5c, and finally to a 6s plus. Each phone has been a little different, but I’ve
learned about them. I’m looking for information on the 6s plus, in order to
use it more effectively. Anybody know of a good resource to learn about it?

Also, I’m looking for a good protective case for my new iPhone. I’ve been a
happy user of the Otterbox Defender case, and I’m leaning toward that one. If
anybody knows of a better case, I’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Have a blessed day.

GO CATS!

Re: Trivia Crack / Kingdoms

There is not an option to remove ads in Kingdoms. I posted a review on the app
store saying that that should be an option but so far, you can’t purchase to
remove them.
I haven’t had the problem that you described, but I haven’t upgraded to the
newest version of the app yet either.

Re: Has anyone tried using the GrubHub app lately

2016-03-11 Thread Brian Fischler
I have been in touch with Grubhub via Twitter as since the major redesign of
the app a few months the accessibility of the app keeps getting worse and
worse. They claimed they were going to fix heading navigation so you could
quickly flick through from cuisine to cuisine and from restaurant to restaurant
instead of having to flick right 5 times to get from one restaurant to the
next. It sucks they have not fixed this yet. I was able to roll back the app
and have not updated it, will tweet them again.

2016-03-11 Thread Ron Pelletier

My living room gained more space since my two front speakers
are gone, my TV/stereo shelf doesn’t have a huge receiver sitting on it and I
am now using that Connect player at my store and there is a lot less cable.
Also, there is of course the fact that Sonos is fully accessible whereas my
Sony receiver was useable in terms of switching inputs and basic functions, but
a lot of advanced functionality was not accessible.

If you aren’t planning to get rid of your Yamaha receiver and speakers I’d say
go for the Connect, but if it’s an older system you may consider buying a
Playbar instead of a Connect and later add a Sub and two Play 1 as surround.

Using a Play 3 or Play 5 in the bedroom is of course a great idea, here you
really have to decide how much you can and want to spend. It used to be that
the Play 1, 3 and 5 were $199, $299 and $399 US, but now the new Play 5 jumped
up to $499 so you could buy a set of Play 1 and put them into stereo mode for
less than a single Play 5. You should maybe go to a reseller that sells Sonos
and listen to a single Play 5 as well as a set of Play 1 and a set of Play 3 to
decide. Of course if you set up two Play 1 or Play 3 in the bedroom you
wouldn’t want to take one of them outside since each time you would have to
re-establish the stereo pairing which maybe a bit of a pain.

Just remember that Sonos is extremely flexible and while you may not be able to
buy all you would like all at once, you can just add to it over a few years.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi you two Sonos Experts,

I have a good Yamaha sound system in my living room with 4 speakers and
woofer. Since I am on a limited budget, my thinking is that I should first get
a Sonos Connect to get the sound into that system and then get a Sonos speaker
or two for my bedroom. One of these speakers, I guess, could easily be brought
on my patio on a nice day until I can afford an outdoors speaker.

What do you think of my reasoning and, please make suggestions if its is a

As for the Connect, I understand that I could get any wireless headset setup
and plug it into the RCA line-out or Optical out on the Connect. But
considering that most of the wireless headsets I would consider are between
$300 and $500 I really was waiting for a true Sonos headset. If Somebody who

Hi Neil,
I’ve written this privately in the past but would also like to take this
opportunity to thank you publically for all your hard work with sonos which
helped to bring it to the point of great accessibility we experience and enjoy
today. I like to be appreciative and take the time to express gratitude
whenever I can. so thanks to you Sieghard and all others who contribute to our
great sonos experience.
I recently had occasion to contact Sonos for support and I couldn’t have had a
better experience both via twitter and via phone. My issue was resolved in
short order and perhaps rivaled only by Apple the experience and my value as a
customer which was communicated was bar-none and excellent all around.
My best wishes to those impacted by the recent lay-offs at Sonos and hopes
going forward that products and service and support won’t be compromised. I’ve
every reason to believe their standards will be maintained.

While a headphone jack on some of the units might be nice, I'm not convinced
any new product is necessary, because Sonos already has one called the Connect.
You can easily plug headphones into this, and indeed I have a device plugged
into a connect that sends any audio from Sonos directly to my hearing aids. You
can set it up as a room of its own or group it with another. For example, we
have a Sonos PlayBar, sub, and two Play:1s in our living room for 5.1 surround
sound. When we're watching a movie, I send audio to a Sonos connect as well so
I get the sound of the movie straight into my hearing aids. But it could easily
be wireless or wired headphones plugged in there.

Yes, sadly Sonos at this point is all about listening out loud and all I can

really need to look at designing a stand-alone headset which would act as a
separate Sonos Player. I’ve been waiting fore this for at least the last 2 or 3
years and each year I hope they’ll announce such a product. Of course there are
many situations where one would want to listen privately with a headset and
considering how much of a focus there has been on headsets in the last few
years I don’t get it how Sonos isn’t jumping on that bandwagon. I think there
could be either one of two products or both:
one would be high-quality stand-alone audio file quality headphones but of
course such a product would be very pricy considering one can easily spend $500
to $1,000 or even more on true audio file quality wired headphones. I think a
product around $500 to $700 US from Sonos would be the right price point and
one where they could really make it sound awesome.
The other product which I think should be a companion to the headphones would
be a small iPhone-size or slightly thicker headphone amp with rechargeable
battery, a quarter inch headphone jack and belt clip. This would be the product
that connects to the Sonos system and acts as a separate player and it would
allow users to plug in any headset or headphones they have from a cheap $20
pair of earbuds to a pair of Sennheiser HD800S for $1,699 which is probably
about as good as it gets. A product like this should maybe cost $250 to $400 or
$500 at most if they put in really good components and if Sonos were to make
only one product I hope it would be this one as it offers a lot more
flexibility with headsets users already own.

RE: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Kevin,

Given the already large size of the iPhone 6S Plus, I tried to find a case that
doesn’t add a lot of bulk. I decided to go with a case from a company called
Evutec. Here is a brief description from their website:

We’ve combined the strength of DuPont™ Kevlar® fibers with the beauty and
sleekness of a case so thin, it may as well be a skin.

Basically you get the protection of Kevlar combined with wood finishes which
are super-thin veneers of bamboo, ebony, white ash etc. The cases are very
well-made and in my opinion provide a lot of protection, but they aren’t cheap,
I paid $60 Canadian for mine. You can check out the company site at
www.evutec.com and you can find them on Amazon as well.

Keep in mind that these are not belt clip cases and I combined my Evutec case
with an over-size leather case with swivel belt clip which is big enough to
hold my iPhone 6S Plus with the Evutec case on. This way I can use a belt clip
case but I can also just put the phone in a jacket pocket if I don’t want to
have a case on my hip.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi.

I’ve been a happy iPhone user since May 2009. I’ve gone from a 3gs to 4, to
5c, and finally to a 6s plus. Each phone has been a little different, but I’ve

Also, I’m looking for a good protective case for my new iPhone. I’ve been a

anybody knows of a better case, I’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Have a blessed day.

Trivia Crack / Kingdoms

2016-03-11 Thread NIMAS
For those of you who play Trivia Crack and Trivia Crack Kingdoms, I’ve got a
couple of questions.

First, In Trivia Crack, you can go into settings, select “Upgrade” and buy an
ad-free version. This option does not seem to appear in Kingdoms. If it’s
there, where is it? Those ads get to be quite annoying after awhile.

Second, Sometimes, while playing Kingdoms, touching the area immediately under
“Play Now” which is usually where your turns are listed dumps you out of the
game and back to your home screen. The game does not close, however, since you
can find it and enter it again through the ap switcher. Has anybody else
experienced this? I am using the current version of the game on a 5C.

Thanks.

Darrin

Hi Bill. Are you gonna use services like On Demand or My SXM? If not, I suggest
that you try Radium for Sirius XM. It's a lot more accessible than the native
app.

Speaking of Sirius XM, I know at one time I found an audio captcha on their
site to help to log in. But the last couple of times I tried logging on, there
was no audio captcha to be found. I wish they would have left things well
enough alone. Now I can’t log in to make changes to my account unless I have
sighted help or call them. At least the online player for listening to on
demand content is now accessible with VoiceOver on the Mac. That is one of my
favorite aspects of the service. So if I miss a show, I can catch it later.

RE: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Les,

Yes, you’ll love the setup and I know you’ll order a set of Play 1 as rear
speakers, it really completes this set up and makes a big difference for movies
as well as music listening. I am usually a bit of a purist when it comes to
music and very much in the stereo camp, but the way Sonos handles music with a
Playbar, Sub and two Play 1 speakers is indeed very nice.

Also, keep in mind that there are companies which make various wall-mounting
brackets for Play 1, Play 3 and even Play 5 players and there are wall-mount
and TV mounts for the Playbar. Some of them get very expensive, but they are
very nice and it makes for a very nice, clean look. I had a custom wrought-iron
shelf/rack made for my TV and my 40 inch Sony LCD TV is mounted in that with a
wall-mount. I was able to take off the base it sat on before and the guy who
made the rack made me a custom setup for my Playbar which has two posts which
go into the 2 square holes where the stand was attached so my Playbar is
mounted right underneath the TV and flush with the front of the TV. All cables
are pretty much hidden behind and I made a shelf out of solid walnut which sits
in a frame above the TV and which holds my satellite receiver, Apple TV and
blueray player. The very top of that rack which is about 5 and a half feet tall
has another solid walnut shelf which is for nicknacks and decorations.

Take care,

Siegard

You can easily plug headphones into this, and indeed I have a device plugged

can set it up as a room of its own or group it with another.

Becoming a Sonos household has been the coolest tech we've adopted since

Hi Marie,

Yes, sadly Sonos at this point is all about listening out loud and all I can
say is to call Sonos or submit feedback via their website to let them know they
really need to look at designing a stand-alone headset which would act as a
separate Sonos Player.

Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-11 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I've been a happy iPhone user since May 2009. I've gone from a 3gs to 4, to
5c, and finally to a 6s plus. Each phone has been a little different, but I've
learned about them. I'm looking for information on the 6s plus, in order to
use it more effectively. Anybody know of a good resource to learn about it?

Also, I'm looking for a good protective case for my new iPhone. I've been a
happy user of the Otterbox Defender case, and I'm leaning toward that one. If
anybody knows of a better case, I'd be interested.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Have a blessed day.

RE: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,

Sieghard

The Play 5 which started out as the S5 came I think in 2011 and I bought it

guy and mentioned it and he said he gets people asking for it on a pretty
regular bases and you find stuff like “

What I really like about Sonos is the longevity of their products. While my
Zp120 units are now called Connect Amp and my ZP90 is now the Connect, they
still are essentially the same units even though mine are now 7 years old. It’s
nice to see a company that makes some good hardware which is then improved over

was the 30-Pin dock which they sold back in the iPhone 4/4S days.

30-Pin to Lightning adapter and if I really want my iPhone connected I have a
RCA to 3.5mm cable plugged into the Connect Amp in my bedroom and I just plug

connected to one of my other Connect Amp units to add Airplay to my Sonos
system. That, by the way, would be one of my other very few items of criticism,
I think at least the new players that were releaed in the last few years should
have built-in Airplay compatibility and all 3 portable players, the Play 1, 3

OK, off my soapbox I step since I have to get ready for work *smile*.

any new product is necessary, because Sonos already has one called the Connect.

Becoming a Sonos household has been the coolest tech we've adopted since
iPhone. I love this stuff.

Anyone know of an app for the iPhone that will tell us the connection speed

I'm trying to find an ios app that will give me the same information.

Hi.

This message serves two purposes. First, Christmas came yesterday
for me. I am now the proud owner of a gold 128 GB iPhone 6s plus.
It took some time to get up and running, and I did have a bit of
trouble restoring things to my preferences, but I have it pretty well
to my liking. I downloaded the Alex voice, and it sounds great to
me. Other than the NFL Mobile app not working, all is well. I
upgraded from an 8 GB 5c to this phone, so I’ll have plenty of space
on it for whatever I like.

Now for the second part of this note, and it shows how handy Siri can
be. I need to set this up, so bear with me explaining some things.
When I set up the iPhone 6s plus, I decided to skip the touch ID
option. I then called up AT to activate the phone. I had some
trouble entering in the numbers on my 5c, but that’s normal, and I
hope the larger size of the 6s plus will help. I was then routed to
an agent. He sent me to the wrong web site to activate the phone,
but in the end I didn’t have to do anything to get it working,
because AT had all my information on file, so he activated my
phone. He told me to turn off both phones, then turn on my new
phone, and he’d call me to see if it worked. Well, I followed his
instructions, and, voila, I got a call from him. When I got the call
I saw a message prompting me to enable WI-FI calling. I don’t know
what I did, but that message went away. I decided not to worry about
it last night, so I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I
decided to try to set up WI-FI calling. I looked under settings, but
the option wasn’t obvious to me. I then tried to call My Apple, but
their offices were closed. I then thought, “Why not see if Siri can
give me some help? I have nothing to lose, and if she can’t, I can
always call back for help.” I asked Siri, “How do I set up WI-FI
calling?” I got information on Android phones, so I tried again,
this time specifying my iPhone type. Siri now returned some
information on how to do this. I followed the instructions, and I
now have WI-FI calling enabled.

Next, I decided to try to configure the touch ID feature. Again, I
didn’t see the option in settings, so I figured that if Siri helped
me once, she could do so again. I asked her about setting up touch
ID, and I got good information on how to do this. Turns out the
setting is pretty obvious, but I didn’t remember hearing Alex tell me
about it. Thanks to Siri, I now have touch ID working on this
iPhone, and I’m really impressed. I had a laptop that had this
option on it, but it was a royal pain to get working. You had to
swipe your finger over this sensor, and if you were lucky, the print
would be recognized. With the 6s plus, I get almost an immediate
response from my iPhone. I like it for its security, and later on
I’ll configure the Apple Wallet for Apple Pay, but that will have to
wait until I get that nice thing called money to use it.

My point in sending this note is twofold. First, I wanted to share
my experiences with the new iPhone, and second, and more importantly,
I can’t stress enough to ask Siri for help on something. That
technology is amazing!

That’s it for now. I now am going to sleep a little, waiting for the
SEC tournament to start. GO CATS!

Have a blessed day.

RE: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jonathan,

First of all, welcome to Sonos, I didn’t know you had bought into it, but it
definitely is awesome.

As for the Connect, I understand that I could get any wireless headset setup
and plug it into the RCA line-out or Optical out on the Connect. But
considering that most of the wireless headsets I would consider are between
$300 and $500 I really was waiting for a true Sonos headset. If Somebody who
wouldn’t normally need a Connect has to buy one just for that purpose then it
also becomes a pretty expensive headset solution.

When I bought my first Sonos products in 2009 it was 3 Connect Amp which then
were called ZP120 and 2 Connect which were the ZP90 back then. They only had
those players then and actually a set of stand-alone bookshelf type speakers.
The Play 5 which started out as the S5 came I think in 2011 and I bought it
then. Anyhow, I am still holding out for a native Sonos headset as I am
convinced it will be coming at some point. My thought is that they do have to
release a new product sometime and now that they have 3 portable players, a
soundbar and Sub it must be something they consider especially considering that
I am not the only one asking for it. I once talked to a Sonos customer service
guy and mentioned it and he said he gets people asking for it on a pretty
regular bases and you find stuff like “
 Dear Sonos,
please make me headphones! | iMore” when you Google around for it.

What I really like about Sonos is the longevity of their products. While my
Zp120 units are now called Connect Amp and my ZP90 is now the Connect, they
still are essentially the same units even though mine are now 7 years old. It’s
nice to see a company that makes some good hardware which is then improved over
time with software updates. The only Sonos product which was a bit of a flop
was the 30-Pin dock which they sold back in the iPhone 4/4S days. It was I
think around $120 at the time and basically was a dock which acted as a
stand-alone player and it also had a headphone jack. I still have mine but of
course haven’t used it in many years since I don’t feel I want to invest in a
30-Pin to Lightning adapter and if I really want my iPhone connected I have a
RCA to 3.5mm cable plugged into the Connect Amp in my bedroom and I just plug
it in there, but mostly I just use Airplay since I have an Airport Express
connected to one of my other Connect Amp units to add Airplay to my Sonos
system. That, by the way, would be one of my other very few items of criticism,
I think at least the new players that were releaed in the last few years should
have built-in Airplay compatibility and all 3 portable players, the Play 1, 3
and 5 should have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

OK, off my soapbox I step since I have to get ready for work *smile*.

Regards,

Sieghard

when you want on demand you can keep the native app.

Hi,

Simply Yoga has a free version and a cheap one, and its yoga workouts are
described clearly. Pocket Yoga is fully accessible and not very expensive. You
might need someone to describe a few things, but it's pretty good. It also
includes a pose dictionary, so you can get detailed descriptions of poses
you're not sure about.

Best,
Anna

Hi Bill. Are you gonna use services like On Demand or My SXM? If not, I suggest
that you try Radium for Sirius XM. It's a lot more accessible than the native
app.

Hello Again Ari,

Well, I just spent over an hour with my Amazon online music library, IE11, and
Jaws for Windows, version 16.

I must tell you that my experience with using Jaws instead of Zoomtext was
vastly different and not, in my opinion, in a good way.

Now keep in mind that I am not an advanced Jaws user, anymore, especially when
it comes to using web browsers so take what I write with a grain of salt, as it
were.

I was surprised at how unstructured the Amazon Music Library is with regard to
Jaws. For example, there are no headings to speak of and, worst still, the
tracks appear not to be listed in a table, proper.

While I did find it easy to download various tracks, I have no doubt that this
is because I had previously seen the structure of the interface, visually. I
don't think I could have made heads or tails out of anything had I not
experienced the interface, over the past couple of months, with my eyes, on a
desktop PC using a screen magnifier.

Just so you know, I used a laptop running Windows 7 with IE 11 and absolutely
no screen magnification. In short, I did not and could not use my eyes.
Although I do have the latest version of Jaws on one of my Desktops, I wanted
to make certain that I would not cheat during the experience by leaning in and
peeping at the monitor (smile). How's that for honesty? (big smile)

To be honest, were I to lose the ability to use Zoomtext in order to access the
Amazon music library, I would probably never buy another song from them,
preferring instead to use iTunes.

Again, I am not an advanced Jaws user. In fact, I had to type the direct URL
into the browser in order to locate my online music library as I could not get
Jaws to land on the Music Library link on the main page of Amazon. The direct
URL to your Amazon music library is:
http://amazon.com/musiclibrary

Okay, there you have it from my perspective.

Mark

Mark, i've had a horrible time trying to use the Amazon music downloader
program for Windows with NVDA. I haven't found the browser experience to be any
better. Have you tried using a screen reader instead of Zoom text to access
your music and downloaded from the web, without using the downloader program?

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Yup, i too love the Sonos system. What would be cool now is to have a player
similar to the play 1 that you could take out on your balcony with batteries in
it. What would be even cooler would be to have a category for audio books so
the books aren’t called ”songs” and end up in my music categories. Those two
things however are only wishes.

Re: Sonos

2016-03-11 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Becoming a Sonos household has been the coolest tech we've adopted since
iPhone. I love this stuff.

What's the difference between Trekz and Bluez?

2016-03-11 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
I’m pondering getting an Aftershokz headset, however i want to know the
difference between the Trekz Titanium and the Bluez 2 S. If it’s just the
titanium head band thingy that’s the difference then i may opt to go for the
Bluez. Could anyone please explain the difference?

Re: I'm really enjoying my new iPhone 6s plus, and I'm learning how valuable Siri is.

2016-03-11 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 Wow Kevin
Good luck in your adventures with your new toy! and yes Siri definitely
can be very useful!

El 11/03/2016 07:51 a.m., Kevin Minor escribió:

Hi.

This message serves two purposes. First, Christmas came yesterday for
me. I am now the proud owner of a gold 128 GB iPhone 6s plus. It
took some time to get up and running, and I did have a bit of trouble
restoring things to my preferences, but I have it pretty well to my
liking. I downloaded the Alex voice, and it sounds great to me.
Other than the NFL Mobile app not working, all is well. I upgraded
from an 8 GB 5c to this phone, so I’ll have plenty of space on it for
whatever I like.

I was then routed to
an agent. He sent me to the wrong web site to activate the phone, but
in the end I didn’t have to do anything to get it working, because
AT had all my information on file, so he activated my phone. He
told me to turn off both phones, then turn on my new phone, and he’d
call me to see if it worked. Well, I followed his instructions, and,
voila, I got a call from him. When I got the call I saw a message
prompting me to enable WI-FI calling. I don’t know what I did, but
that message went away. I decided not to worry about it last night,
so I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I decided to try to
set up WI-FI calling. I looked under settings, but the option wasn’t
obvious to me. I then tried to call My Apple, but their offices were
closed. I then thought, “Why not see if Siri can give me some help?
I have nothing to lose, and if she can’t, I can always call back for
help.” I asked Siri, “How do I set up WI-FI calling?” I got
information on Android phones, so I tried again, this time specifying
my iPhone type. Siri now returned some information on how to do
this. I followed the instructions, and I now have WI-FI calling enabled.

Next, I decided to try to configure the touch ID feature. Again, I
didn’t see the option in settings, so I figured that if Siri helped me
once, she could do so again. I asked her about setting up touch ID,
and I got good information on how to do this. Turns out the setting
is pretty obvious, but I didn’t remember hearing Alex tell me about
it. Thanks to Siri, I now have touch ID working on this iPhone, and
I’m really impressed. I had a laptop that had this option on it, but
it was a royal pain to get working. You had to swipe your finger over
this sensor, and if you were lucky, the print would be recognized.
With the 6s plus, I get almost an immediate response from my iPhone.
I like it for its security, and later on I’ll configure the Apple
Wallet for Apple Pay, but that will have to wait until I get that nice
thing called money to use it.

My point in sending this note is twofold. First, I wanted to share my
experiences with the new iPhone, and second, and more importantly, I
can’t stress enough to ask Siri for help on something. That
technology is amazing!

That’s it for now. I now am going to sleep a little, waiting for the
SEC tournament to start. GO CATS!

Have a blessed day.

I'm really enjoying my new iPhone 6s plus, and I'm learning how valuable Siri is.

2016-03-11 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

This message serves two purposes. First, Christmas came yesterday for me. I
am now the proud owner of a gold 128 GB iPhone 6s plus. It took some time to
get up and running, and I did have a bit of trouble restoring things to my
preferences, but I have it pretty well to my liking. I downloaded the Alex
voice, and it sounds great to me. Other than the NFL Mobile app not working,
all is well. I upgraded from an 8 GB 5c to this phone, so I'll have plenty of
space on it for whatever I like.

Now for the second part of this note, and it shows how handy Siri can be. I
need to set this up, so bear with me explaining some things. When I set up the
iPhone 6s plus, I decided to skip the touch ID option. I then called up AT
to activate the phone. I had some trouble entering in the numbers on my 5c,
but that's normal, and I hope the larger size of the 6s plus will help. I was
then routed to an agent. He sent me to the wrong web site to activate the
phone, but in the end I didn't have to do anything to get it working, because
AT had all my information on file, so he activated my phone. He told me to
turn off both phones, then turn on my new phone, and he'd call me to see if it
worked. Well, I followed his instructions, and, voila, I got a call from him.
When I got the call I saw a message prompting me to enable WI-FI calling. I
don't know what I did, but that message went away. I decided not to worry
about it last night, so I went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I
decided to try to set up WI-FI calling. I looked under settings, but the
option wasn't obvious to me. I then tried to call My Apple, but their offices
were closed. I then thought, "Why not see if Siri can give me some help? I
have nothing to lose, and if she can't, I can always call back for help." I
asked Siri, "How do I set up WI-FI calling?" I got information on Android
phones, so I tried again, this time specifying my iPhone type. Siri now
returned some information on how to do this. I followed the instructions, and
I now have WI-FI calling enabled.

Next, I decided to try to configure the touch ID feature. Again, I didn't see
the option in settings, so I figured that if Siri helped me once, she could do
so again. I asked her about setting up touch ID, and I got good information on
how to do this. Turns out the setting is pretty obvious, but I didn't remember
hearing Alex tell me about it. Thanks to Siri, I now have touch ID working on
this iPhone, and I'm really impressed. I had a laptop that had this option on
it, but it was a royal pain to get working. You had to swipe your finger over
this sensor, and if you were lucky, the print would be recognized. With the 6s
plus, I get almost an immediate response from my iPhone. I like it for its
security, and later on I'll configure the Apple Wallet for Apple Pay, but that
will have to wait until I get that nice thing called money to use it.

My point in sending this note is twofold. First, I wanted to share my
experiences with the new iPhone, and second, and more importantly, I can't
stress enough to ask Siri for help on something. That technology is amazing!

Sorry, to anyone reading that on list, to be 100% clear, true Play tuning is
not accessible to Voice Over users who are using the public release of the App,
as many of you know, I work with Sonos privately, so, I just wanted to reasure
folk, True Play will be accessible with Voice Over likely in the next public
update of the software, as I can see nothing wrong with the latest rework that
we’ve just finished doing.

Sieghard,

Just a brief reflection; True Play is available for all Sonos Play units, 1, 3
and 5, not yet the PlayBar publicly.

The True Play tuning experience is not, yet, accessible to the public release
of the software, however, I doubt I’m being naughty to say that it is within
the present versions of the software that I am working with. In fact, its very
nicely been done, with a few minor modifications to the process from yours

Subject: Strange Occurrence with Apple Maps and Turning Tracking On

Hello to the list.
When I launch Apple Maps, and then try to turn on Traing on with
headings, a dialog pops up and says that location services need to be
enabled, then i have a button to go to settings.

However, location services are already enabled, I can ask Siri for
driving or walking directions, so the maps are working, but when I try
to turn Tracking On, that is when this message comes up regarding
enabling location services.
Has anyone ever encountered this before?
This was not on my own phone, but on a phone where I was attempting to
set this up for a friend.
Thanks for any insight.

I somehow disconnected my Bose Bluetooth speaker, tried to reconnect with no
luck, probably because I pushed an incorrect button, I’d like it to work again!
Can someone tell me which buttons I need to use to reconnect this please? It
was done at the store in October 2014 and never had a problem until today.
Plugged in, battery was well earlier.

Thanks in advance. Alone, so no eyes to help me!
