RE: Apple TV Plus

2019-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s a service like Apple Music and not an app. It’s available tomorrow so I
assume you will be able to sign up for it through the TV app then.

RE: good and bad news about itunes and getting new ring tones on my iPhone 8, please help if possible

2019-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
M4R is the same as M4A, all you have to do is go to an M4A file in File
Explorer, make sure extensions are not hidden, then press F2 and change the "A"
in M4A to an "R" so it reads M4R.

M4R is simply M4A (Apple's music format) with the M4R extension which tells iOS
that the file is a ringtone and not a song.
M4R can be played in iTunes as well as the Groove Music app which comes with
Windows 10, I think it will also play with the old Windows Media Player.
You delete them the same way you put them on, connect your phone to the
computer, open iTunes, go into the phone area, go to Tones in the treeview,
then tab into the list and delete the ones you don't want.

Hi to all. A friend of mine has an FTP server where I thought he used to have
some ring tones for the iPhone. I sent him an email and he sent me this huge
zipped file with loads of ring tones in it. The file when zipped was a little
over 2 gigs in size. Well, I unzipped it and I contacted apple support. This
really cool guy named Jason walked me through the steps to get some of these
ring tones to my iPhone. Well, first bad news, is that some of my ring tones
ended up on my iPhone's music and now I can't get them out. The next bad thing
is I do have a lot of new ring tones but after checking them out on my iPhone,
I don't like most of them and wish to delete them . Does anyone have any
suggestions for what I should do. Thanks. I would have checked the ring tones
before I put them on my phone, but they were in some kind of m4r format.
Thanks for any help.

with further reading documentation, imazing does work with ipods. However you
will need too install the apple drivers or you could install itunes and itunes
would install the drivers. If you're just going to install apple drivers this
is the apple packages you need to install:
apple applications support
aif you're running 64 bit operating system it would be
apple application support 64
apple mobile device 64
bonjur 64
Bonjur gives you the wifi support.
I think that's all you would need to install.

I do not quite understand you. An Apple iPod is an Apple device, so if
Imazing can transfer music from a pc to an iPhone the same would be true for an
iPod. Or do I totally misunderstand the whole concept of Imazing? So my
question is if one can transfer music from pc to iPhone or is it only possible
to transfer music from iPhone to pc?

I have been using WLTR2 since 2017 and have had no problem with it.

Note there are two programs WLTR and WLTR2 the latter works fine in my
experience.

I know some people are highly critical and dismissive of alternatives

I was really looking forward to the update to 13.2 for the HomePod. And I
finally got it after the first one was withdrawn and they introduced 13.2.1.
Now it seems that at least half of the time, Siri is deaf. I can say hey Siri
two or three times before I get any results at all. And she comes up with the
wildest stupidest things that aren’t even close to what I requested, unless
it’s something from Apple Music. It’s crazy.

Re: Keyboard automatically disappearing

2019-10-31 Thread Duane Steele
Thanks Richard and Anna for your help. My keyboard appears to be back on
track. I learn lots of stuff from this list, and appreciate all the dedicated
responders. I still think, however, that iOS 13 has taken us backward instead
of forward, and our Braille devices don't work nearly as well as they did in
earlier iPhone versions.

Hey Siri not working well on HomePod after update

2019-10-31 Thread Mary Otten
I was really looking forward to the update to 13.2 for the HomePod. And I
finally got it after the first one was withdrawn and they introduced 13.2.1.
Now it seems that at least half of the time, Siri is deaf. I can say hey Siri
two or three times before I get any results at all. And she comes up with the
wildest stupidest things that aren’t even close to what I requested, unless
it’s something from Apple Music. It’s crazy.

Re: Keyboard automatically disappearing

2019-10-31 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Duane,

Next time you're near your Braille Edge, open a text field and show the
keyboard with Space and dots 146. With the keyboard visible, turn off your
iDevice and your braille display. Then turn your iDevice back on and confirm
that the keyboard is visible. It should now remain visible as you continue to
use your device. I don't know why this happens, but I've had it happen
periodically for years.

Best,
Anna

Re: What does every one like about the new iOS update

2019-10-31 Thread Wayne Merritt
I like the 1 finger triple tap gesture to bring up a context menu,
same as the double tap and hold. It caught me off guard the first time
it happened, but I like the option for those who find the double tap
and hold hard to perform. Plus, I can see some benefits.

RE: Instant Pot smart wi-fi

2019-10-31 Thread Robert Wright
If it balks the first time then set it to factory standards:
1. Hold the pressure/wi-fi button for 10 seconds until you hear a long high
pitched beep (this is the top center left button)
2. Hold the cancel button until you hear a high pitched beep. (this is the
bottom center right button)
3. Unplug the pressure cooker
4. Now plug it in.

In the app hit the menu button
Swipe left then back right to the device button
Input your secret number and name your device
Go to the pressure cooker and hold the pressure/wi-fi button until you hear a
double beep

Choose add smart Wi-Fi
DT the smart Wi-fi button
It will show you your Wi-fi and ask for the password. (note if you have a dual
band router then on which ever device you have the app set up on must be set to
the 2.4 band)
DT “go to Wi-fi”
DT Instant pot if it asks for a password type 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and join
Return to the instant pot app and it should say “activating pot name
While its activating return to Wi-fi settings to see that it is now focused on
your 2.4 band
Now when you return to the app it should say “success!”

Re: Keyboard automatically disappearing

2019-10-31 Thread Richard Turner
OK, you were in the edit field of a text message, and obviously it was editing,
so you could use the Braille input.
Have you changed the appearance in messages and made all those other things
like photos, stickers, etc., hidden?
That sometimes masks the keyboard, even though it is still there.
After the camera button in messages, there is a button that says, Apps, if
hints are on, it will say if they are visible or hidden.
If you double tap that, and those things are on the screen, they will vanish,
leaving plenty of room for the keyboard.
HTH,

Thanks so much for that tip, Richard! Glad to hear that. I’ll take care of
that right now.

The home phone is a Panasonic cordless phone with 5 hand sets. The menu
settings are not accessible, but it does have talking caller ID, which is why
we purchased it. It also has a USB port on the side of the main base, which
really comes in handy for charging my iPhone. It was purchased at Sam’s club,
about 6 years ago.

Is the home phone listed in your Bluetooth settings?

If so, you could go to the ore info button and forget that device.

Then, it won't reconnect unless you add it back in.

At least, that is what I think would happen never had such a system.

Hi Sieghard many thanks for your reply. I will do that when I can get somebody

closed all the apps from the app switcher, the phone was 95 percent and in the
morning it was 89 percent. So now I am not sure if I should go to the Apple
shop or not. Tonight I will charge it up to 100 percent and leave open the
apps in the app switcher and see what happens.

RE: Another question Re: 13.2

2019-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Shirley,

As I said, use whatever you find works best, but for me after I triple tap on
App Store and find the Updates button the same screen loads as when you double
tap on App Store to open it, swipe right once and double tap on My Account.
On that screen you still have to touch near the bottom above where the home
button is (or used to be if you have an iPhone X or later) to find the updates
area.

I've tried finding updates using both methods in the app store and I like the
one finger tripple tap on the app store icon the best because you just slide
your finger to the right once and it says updates. You don't have to double tap
on account and then start looking somewhere else on the screen and I really
like the shortest methods when it comes to the iPhone and iPad.

RE: Dual sym card capability?

2019-10-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Let's face it, I doubt we'll still have any physical SIM cards at some point in
the future, I have no idea when this will happen, but it makes sense to me
since it would greatly simplify things and think of the billions of SIM cards,
tiny as they are, eventually ending up as another piece of plastic in a
landfill, a river or an ocean.

Keep in mind that people who are not in the US (Chermeen is in Canada as I am)
don't have access to as many Voip services especially those who provide numbers
one can use as a business number. In Canada Google Voice is not available,
Skype does not provide any Canadian Skype-In numbers and while you can get
phone numbers you can use with apps such as Groundwire or I forget now the
other one, I think maybe Acrobits, those may not be numbers local to your
calling area because only numbers from larger cities are offered or can be
ported. I live in a smaller town and I for example cannot get a Voip number
which people can call for free. For many this is not such a big deal any more
since many cell plans include free long distance and even landlines often
include long distance packages, but I would still never consider it good
service for my customers to ask them to potentially call a long distance number
if they want to call me. Also, if you work for a larger company who may provide
a cell phone and who will let you use it for personal use being able to add a
SIM with a personal number would be very good and vice versa the company may
simply provide a SIM and plan if you have a phone which can support this.

I believe the dual SIM support started last year with the iPhone XS and XS Max,
not sure if the XR has it also. However, there are not two SIM trays, the one
has to be a so-called e-SIM and I am not sure which carriers in Canada support
e-SIM although the Apple Watch uses e-SIM and it is supported by all 3 major
carriers, Telus, Bell and Rogers, but not yet carriers like Koodo (not sure
about Fido and Virgin).

Hi all,

Has anyone tried and had any success with using two sym cards (or
micro-sims) in one phone? I seem to recall this being a feature in the iPhone
11 onward, but didn't know if anyone had actually tried it.
It's a feature I have high hopes for, as I'd prefer to use one device for both
work and personal use, while maintaining different phone numbers and such.

Thanks,
Shermeen

Thanks,
Shermeen

what setting do I need to change?

2019-10-31 Thread Cris Ali
Hi folks,
My phone used to do the NATO Phonatic spelling perfectly. If I needed to know
the exact spelling of a word, I would switch my rotor to characters, then swipe
down and it will spell out the characters phonetically, Z like zulu, n like
nancy, I like india, etc. Now it stopped doing that, It will just say the
character without the phonetic clarification. I do not remember making any
changes in voice over settings. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?
I am using iPhone XR and iOS 13.2.
I appreciate any help

Cheers,

Cris

Re: What happened to the scrub gesture to exit braille screen input?

2019-10-31 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,
I just tried it and I can't get it to work either. That's strange. You can go
to the commands section of VoiceOver settings and see if you can still
customize it there. Other than that, just use the rotor gesture to get out of
Braille screen input.

Think I have the Problem of Reading Mail Solved for Me

2019-10-31 Thread Shirley Baker

I finally figured out how to read one email and go to the next one without it
going back to mail boxes button because going to the next one and previous
didn't work for me. I don't always open my email unless the message is very
long but read them by laying 3 fingers on the screen but I found if I actually
open the message and read the first one then it goes to the next one just fine.
Don't know if that will work for anyone else but does for me so far.

I’m running IOS 13.3 and I’ve noticed that notifications will repeat until
they’re activated by double-tapping them or dissmissing them. To dismiss them,
I usually flick down until I hear VO say “Dismiss”, then double-tap and the
notification disappears.

Re: Battery drain

2019-10-31 Thread Judy Pryor
Hi Sieghard many thanks for your reply. I will do that when I can get somebody
to read the password on the WIFI hub. Last night I powered off the phone
closed all the apps from the app switcher, the phone was 95 percent and in the
morning it was 89 percent. So now I am not sure if I should go to the Apple
shop or not. Tonight I will charge it up to 100 percent and leave open the
apps in the app switcher and see what happens.

Re: How to delete apps from my Apple watch?

2019-10-31 Thread Todd W
Hi Ann,

You can remove the apps from your watch by going into the Watch app on your
phone. From the My Watch tab scroll down until you see the heading
‘Installed on Watch”. Tap each app and you’ll see a setting to ‘Show on
Watch”. Simply turn it off and it will remove the app from the watch. You
should also check the mail settings, music settings, and photos settings to
see how much of each of those are being stored on your watch. Once you
adjust these settings it’s a good idea to power cycle the watch and then
check the space again.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I had been struggling with this setting myself

Hi all,

Has anyone tried and had any success with using two sym cards (or
micro-sims) in one phone? I seem to recall this being a feature in the
iPhone 11 onward, but didn't know if anyone had actually tried it.
It's a feature I have high hopes for, as I'd prefer to use one device
for both work and personal use, while maintaining different phone
numbers and such.

Thanks,
Shermeen

Re: Another question Re: 13.2

2019-10-31 Thread Shirley Baker
I've tried finding updates using both methods in the app store and I like the
one finger tripple tap on the app store icon the best because you just slide
your finger to the right once and it says updates. You don't have to double tap
on account and then start looking somewhere else on the screen and I really
like the shortest methods when it comes to the iPhone and iPad.
