RE: How to answer call, while on a call.

2020-05-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is one reason why I like to use the Apple Earpods for longer calls, if
another call comes in all I have to do is press the Answer/Hangup button (the
middle section of the remote on the headset) and it will switch to the other
call.
But for those times when I don't have the Earpods connected finding the Hold
and Answer button is not so difficult, As was suggested, make sure you pull
your phone away from your ear and make sure the screen is active, then touch
about the middle of the screen left to right but towards the bottom of the
phone and a swipe or two should get you to the correct button.
I find it more difficult sometimes to get back to the original caller once the
second caller hangs up.

Joshua,

It sounds as if the person you're talking to when the new call comes in is
disconnecting before you do your two finger double tap. Otherwise, I believe
your two finger double tap will hang up your first call rather than answering
the second call.

I've never had any issues answering another call when I'm on the first one. I
just quickly say to the first person I've got another call and I do a 2 finger
double tap and I'm usually connected to the new caller.

Re: GPS Apps for hiking?

2020-05-07 Thread Eric Caron
Thanks folks,

Keep the suggestions coming.

I’ll try the near by explorer. I had the app but never played with it. I have
good coverage so I’ll see if the paid version is worth it if it actually is
useful when hiking.

I’ve got a lot to learn to see if it is helpful.

If other apps might be more useful send the tips my way.

To get to the app switcher, you do the same thing you do to get to the home
page, except keep sliding your finger a bit further up the screen until you
feel a second vibration. It's a bit tricky, but you'll get the hang of it
pretty quickly.

Re: GPS Apps for hiking?

2020-05-07 Thread Richard Turner
I think you will find the full program is still $79.99 on the App store.
However, the free version has had some upgrades recently.

But, you will need GPS coverage and Data coverage since the free version
doesn't download the maps.

Hi foks,

Is there a good GPS app for hiking? I have apps for on the road but as I’m
doing more off road hiking they are not helpful.

What are people using for hiking navigation and GPS info?

Thank you,

Anker wired fast charging option for iPhone

2020-05-07 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I said I would post the product names and links for the Anker 18W fast
charger power adapter and the Anker USB C to lightning cable I got for my SE
2020 after getting and trying them out. Here are the product names and links
at Amazon:

USB C Charger, Anker 18W PIQ 3.0 Compact Fast Charger Adapter, PowerPort III
Nano USB C Wall Charger for iPhone 11/11 Pro / 11 Pro Max/XR/XS/X, Galaxy
S10 / S9, Pixel 3/2, iPad Pro and More

This charger sells for $17.99 at Amazon US and has a 4.8 star rating. Here
is the link to it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WRKXQ8W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_
s00?ie=UTF8
 =1

Here is a TinyURL link to it:

https://tinyurl.com/yalw2nkk

I got a 6 foot Anker USB C to lightning cable named Anker USB C to Lightning
Cable, iPhone 11 Charger [6ft Apple MFi Certified] Powerline II for iPhone
SE / 11 Pro/X/XS/XR / 8 Plus/AirPods Pro, Supports Power Delivery

This cable sells for $14.99 at Amazon US and has an Amazon rating of 4.6.
Here is the link to it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H256MBK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_
s00?ie=UTF8
 =1

Here is a TinyURL link to it:

https://tinyurl.com/y9or4w7p

The size of this 18W Anker charger feels the same as my 5W charger that came
with my SE 2020 so it's fairly small at about an inch square not counting
the plugs. My SE was 42% charged when I plugged it into the new fast charger
with the screen not locked. After 10 minutes of charging, my SE was 60%
charged. After 20 minutes of charging, my SE was 74%charged. After 30
minutes of charging, my SE was 83% charged. The phone did not get overly
warm during the charging process and felt no different than when plugged
into the 5W charging plug that came with it.

For those who are unfamiliar with USB C plugs, they are small and plug in
either way just like the lightning plug. I will say the USB C plug is a bit
thicker in depth than the lightning plug.

I hope someone finds the above helpful.

Alan Lemly

No. It just gives you not another option for making certain gestures. There's
just a virtual assistive touch button on your screen, usually near the botom. I
like it because I find the sliding gesture hard to do, meaning that I've never
actually gotten it to work. It sounds easy from the descriptions but its never
worked for me. Personally I prefer the physical home button, so I will stick
with that kind of phone as long as I can.

Hi Jennie. Once you have found the play/pause button on your screen,
flick once to the wright and you'll hear navigation. You can swipe up
and down through options like heading which would be one track of your
audio book, then there are increments of seconds like 60, 30, and 15
seconds. Once you have found the navigation that you want to move by,
flick left to the play/pause button and swipe up to go back and down
to go forward by your chosen level. Good luck.

Check what the “navigation Unit” is set to. I personally prefer sentences.
Then, touch the play button, do not double tap it.
Flick up to go back by the Navigation Unit, and flick down to go forward by
that same amount.

RE: How to answer call, while on a call.

2020-05-07 Thread Alan Lemly

Re: iphone x question

2020-05-07 Thread Barbara Stahl

Recorder Hq Question

2020-05-07 Thread Karen Poulakos
I'm hoping someone has experience with this app.

When I first started using it, the wifi transfer was so easy. However they
changed something awhile back, and I can't figure out how to do the
transfer. I managed to email myself a couple of recordings. But I have one
that is too large to email.

Here are the steps I followed:
1. Tapped the wifi transfer button on my phone:
2. Entered the wifi address into the browser on my laptop, which
brought up the file list from my phone.
This is where my problem began. There used to be a download button below
each item. It is no longer there. I can't figure out how to proceed from
there.

The solution must be very simple, but I can't figure it out. Any help would
be much appreciated.

Thanks.

GPS Apps for hiking?

2020-05-07 Thread Eric Caron
Hi foks,

Is there a good GPS app for hiking? I have apps for on the road but as I’m
doing more off road hiking they are not helpful.

What are people using for hiking navigation and GPS info?

Thank you,

Eric Caron

Thanks for the responses. On those occasions when I'm too lazy to write, and
just dictate, I edit manually. I guess I hoped there was some command or other
that I might have overlooked. Glad for the input.

Re: Visible carrier iphone

2020-05-07 Thread Jeff Samco
I have been using Visible for 4 months now. As I understand it,
Visible is wholly owned by Verizon. I have found the app to be pretty
accessible to Voiceover as is the website. Support is 100% through a
chat exchange either on the app or website. I have used both and it
functions well enough. There is no support by phone nor even email.

As for the actual mobile service I have found it to be very good for
calls, texting and data. The plan comes with included hotspot service
at no extra charge and no data caps; this is actually the feature
that drew me most to this service. There are no caps on calls, texts
nor data. The only limitation I have found involves whenh I am in a
pretty rural location near my home where I spend several 24/7 days a
week. At night the data and hotspot speeds are extremely slow,
painfully slow. Visible says that Verizon customers get preference
when tower traffic gets congested. So, that probably explains poor
speeds especially during this COVID-19 season when so many are at
home and evening use is way up.

As for the cost of the service I have found it exactly as advertised.
I joined a Party Pay group with the maximum of 4 people. That lowers
the monthly cost from $40 to $25 a month. That is it. No additional
fees, taxes or hidden costs. Plus they gave me a $100 virtual
MasterCard after 2 months of service.

I would recommend Visible to most anyone except those who cannot
tolerate the possibility of slow data speeds. I should say that when
not at that rural location, but in town, I never experience data slowdowns.

Re: A text dictation question

2020-05-07 Thread David Moore
When I edit a dictated message, I do so by hand. That way, I can just add
the space at the end of a period by moving character by character. that is
how I put the space, so to answer your question, I think you have to
manually put a space where it needs to be. usually when you dictate, the
space is automatically added. But sometimes, when you read through it
letter by letter, or word by word, you find that some spaces are missing. I
always dictate, then use my edit features to read it word by word or even
character by character. Have a great one!

A text dictation question

2020-05-07 Thread Duane Steele
I sometimes like to dictate text messages. But I’ve noticed when editing those
messages but there seems to be no way to put a space after the period at the
end of the sentence. Can this only be achieved manually when dictating a text

Jen, I was curious about knowing when to charge the remote too, but not to
worry. The TV will tell you. When you turn on" the Apple TV if the remote needs
juice you will immediately tell you. As for using your phone charger or cable,
you can. I'll let others tell you, and me, about games.

I've never had any issues answering another call when I'm on the first

I do a 2 finger double tap and I'm usually connected to the new

RE: How to answer call, while on a call.

2020-05-07 Thread Carolyn
It is a toggle, but I thought with an incoming, it would just answer that call
and leave the other unless that party hung up.

RE: How to answer call, while on a call.

2020-05-07 Thread Carolyn
I've had to call several people back, because of being unable to get the
incoming call. If the caller I was with hangs up fast enough, it will ring in,
and of course, I get those.

To add to Michael’s answer, make sure and pull the phone away from your head so
the screen becomes active again, flick around with one finger and one option
you will find is to Hold and Answer. That would put the current call on hold
and allow you to answer the new call.

When that call is finished, I believe there is an option to end that call and
resume the other; but I’ve not had to do this so it may take some experimenting.

Re: iphone x question

2020-05-07 Thread Wayne Merritt
One thing to add about Assistive Touch. In my experience, the Assistive
Touch virtual button tends to move around the screen a bit. Usually, I
find it in the bottom right-ish part, but not always. I wish it stayed
in one place. Also, it can hide things you are used to seeing. For
instance, if I'm in BARD Mobile, and the Assistive Touch button is in
the lower right corner, if I then touch the Now Reading tab also in
the bottom right corner, I often hear VoiceOver say, "Assistive Touch
menu". You may have to go to the next closest item and flick to the
app item you are looking for. So, in my example, I would find the
Settings tab and then flick right to find the Now Reading tab and
double tap. This is an annoying thing about Assistive Touch, but I'm
mostly willing to deal with it. I use Assistive Touch as an easy way
to restart my phone. On the iPhone XR, I haven't come up with an easy
phone restart, other than shutting it down, plugging it into power,
and waiting for it to start up. There supposedly is a sequence of
button presses, but half the time whenever I try it, I end up nearly
calling EMS. Finally, you can turn on VoiceOver Help from anywhere
with a 4 finger double tap, and practice the new VoiceOver gestures,
such as going to the home screen or the app switcher. This would be a
good way to practice without actually performing the gesture.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

VoiceOver Fading When Repeating Dictation

2020-05-07 Thread Chuck Carlson

Has anyone experienced VoiceOver fading out when repeating/confirming Dictation
in either Messages or Email. I double tap, dictate the phrase, double tap to
end, after which, Voiceover will repeat the first couple of words before fading
out. It occcurs to me about 20 percent of the time. However, I can not identify
a pattern in terms of apps open, length of phrase etc.

RE: How to answer call, while on a call.

2020-05-07 Thread Richard Turner
To add to Michael’s answer, make sure and pull the phone away from your head so
the screen becomes active again, flick around with one finger and one option
you will find is to Hold and Answer. That would put the current call on hold
and allow you to answer the new call.
When that call is finished, I believe there is an option to end that call and
resume the other; but I’ve not had to do this so it may take some experimenting.

be enough. What am I missing, please?

You can also use Siri to tell the phone to turn off all your alarms if you want
to change anything. Or you could go in and do it manually through the app. You
know a lot of native apps work just fine. There was a point at which a lot of
us were using downcast versus the native podcast app. At one point downcast
became a little more labyrinthian than the native app so I got rid of all that
stuff. I mention that as one example.

RE: Sonos has new products

I’d love to update to the new sonos products but currently can’t afford it and

Hi,

In advance of their new app roll out next Month Sonos reveals a new soundbar
for tv's a new version of their largest speaker the Sonos 5 to be named like
the newer smaller siblings the Sonos one and of course a new sub. I just had
to write in for I know I said in jest to Sieghard and others on the list a few
months back that surely if I bought a sub it'd get an update. So if you were
waiting for one you're welcome. 

All that having been said I was just curious if anyone is planning to upgrade
to the Sonos 5's or the sub or the new soundbar. I'm usually an early adopter
because I like geeky fun but since mine are working so well frankly I'm not
feeling the push off the fence to upgrade at this time.

I'm sure all of our friends who beta test their apps are making sure the new
and improved app doesn't break accessibility for us all. See I connected it
back to the iPhone one way or another. 

Take good care.

Robin

Yes, the Alarm in the Apple clock app.
You can set it to repeat daily.
And, you can either choose one of their sounds, or select a song from your
library.

I think you've earned supper and a double manhattan.
The jumpiness I think is the extra fast responsiveness.
It is significantly faster than the old SE plus it has that haptic feedback. I
odered a clear case for my new SE to show off the red color. It will be here
Saturday. It was $9.99.
But yes, simple cases used to be rather inexpensive.
I always turn off all the Siri suggestions.
They drive me to distraction.

First, I believe that you can lock the screen orientation and control setting.
Yes you can, on all iPhones since at least the 5S.
Touch the Status bar where the clock, battery level, etc., are and flick up
with three fingers.
The first item in the third row is Lock Orientation, from the top going down
along the left side are Airplane Mode, Wifi, then Lock Orientation.

Next, even though I have predictive text off an auto spelling, it’s still doing
it.
Make sure you also turned off Slide to Type, which is just after Predictive
Text in the Keyboard settings.

why in the rotor is misspelled words when it’s not listed in the options for
things you want to select in the rotor? As for the rotor, it doesn’t seem to
stay stuck on the last thing that I used in the rotor.
Misspelled words is a feature Apple has tried to make work to make it easier to
edit things you have written. It hasn't worked correctly yet, in iOS 13, but
rumor has it that it is finally fixed in iOS 13.5 which should be out someday
in the next month or two.
As for the rotor staying where you left it, welcome to the joys of iOS 13. It
doesn't do that. So, you often have to turn the rotor again.

>From your next message on the rotor:
You said:
Me again. Here’s another question having to do with the rotor.
I suspect that some of these issues have to do with going from a high version
of iOS 12 to 13. when I’m simply trying to edit a message in Mail for instance
it’s giving me all kinds of things I’m not asking for like a way to insert
something or text format when all I’m trying to do is to go back character by
character after setting it on character...

Your instincts are correct, another case of welcome to iOS 13. Those extra
things like text format, insert attachments are a new feature in iOS 13. Some
of us would not call them a feature...
As for dictation being less accurate, probably so. I don't use it much, I'd
rather write with MBraille's braile screen input than dictate.

I hope that helps.

2020-05-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
F course I am joking,

And no I don't approve of child labour,

But everyone seems to be jumping to the conclusion that these devices are
assembled by children,
I for one have no proof of this and wouldn't condone it if it was correct,

But until such time as that proof is provided I'm going to keep shopping /
buying the products I buy.

I use apple products because they suit me and what / how I work and they are
bloody well made,
The only issue I have with apple products is a cost related one as they price
their devices at a rate that makes it difficult to keep purchasing as I need to
replace.

Sonos has new products

2020-05-07 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
In advance of their new app roll out
next Month Sonos reveals a new soundbar for tv's a new version
of their largest speaker the Sonos 5 to be named like the newer
smaller siblings the Sonos one and of course a new sub.  I just
had to write in for I know I said in jest to Sieghard and others
on the list a few months back that surely if I bought a sub it'd
get an update. So if you were waiting for one you're welcome.

All that having been said I was just
curious if anyone is planning to upgrade to the Sonos 5's or the
sub or the new soundbar. I'm usually an early adopter because I
like geeky fun but since mine are working so well frankly I'm
not feeling the push off the fence to upgrade at this time.
I'm sure all of our friends who beta
test their apps are making sure the new and improved app doesn't
break accessibility for us all. See I connected it back to the
iPhone one way or another. 
Take good care.
Robin
