RE: Question about calls, when you can't get access to the keypad

2023-06-10 Thread John J. Fioravanti, Jr.
Most of the time, when I make a call and am asked to push a number for an
extension, the iPhone works fine; however, in a few instances, the caller
requests me to push a number and I can't get to the keypad, it's not showing.
If I go to the phone and get to the keypad and press a number, still nothing
happens to complete the request the caller is making?

Any help would be appreciated.

2023-06-10 Thread Richard Turner
How close to your head is the phone when you are trying to do this?
If it is within about a foot or maybe 18 inches, the proximity sensor will kick
in and you won't be able to use the screen.

As Sieghard pointed out, this extremely expensive toy will not be available until 2024.

If you want to learn more about it, Mac Rumors has an article with links to the developer session spelling out the accessibility features.
Here is that link, with other links to the WWDC session on that page.

RE: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
There are a lot of things people spend money on that I would never spend money
on, and I'm sure I spend money on things others wouldn't. I just don't tend to
project my financial circumstances and interest in certain products on others.
There's simply too much for me to worry about than how much money others are
spending on something.

It does seem like the Vision Pro has some challenges, like cost, weight and
battery life, and it isn't clear now how it would benefit the blind, but isn't
that true of a lot of new technology? I still remember a lot of what was said
about the iPhone when it first came out, and look how it has changed the lives
of everyone, including the blind. I don't think the price has really come down
much though, and of course some may claim it hasn't changed our lives for the
good, but it definitely isn't the product everyone thought it was when it was
introduced.

My problems with the vision pro headset are 2 things. First, the cost, I have
bought way to many bluetooth headsets in my life. I have them all, bose nc700,
sony xm5, and apple airpod max to name a few of the big ones. And ones from
AKG, Anker, and JBL to name some of the smaller ones. I'd never pay $3500 for
any headset, I don't care how good it is. Now, if I did have $3500, I'd pay
that in a second for a beautiful hd28 martin guitar. Next, is the battery
life. The vision pro only has 2 hours of battery life. That is way to few
hours to even watch a long movie, or do a whole lot. You might watch one full
movie with the headset on, but nothing else. I'll stick with my iPhone 13 pro
max.

RE: Question about calls, when you can't get access to the keypad

2023-06-10 Thread Carolyn Arnold
To get the keypad to show:

1. Open Phone.
2. Go to App Switcher.
3. Double tap.
4. Your keyboard will appear.

Problem?: That takes a little bit of time to get there.

I don't think the price has really come down
much though, and of course some may claim it hasn't changed our lives for the
good, but it definitely isn't the product everyone thought it was when it was
introduced.

life. The vision pro only has 2 hours of battery life. That is way to few
hours to even watch a long movie, or do a whole lot. You might watch one full
movie with the headset on, but nothing else. I'll stick with my iPhone 13 pro
max.

Joshua, I think you are under some sort of misconception here. This is not a
headset which plays back audio or maybe it also does this although I have a
feeling it does not because I seem to remember them talking about using it
together with Airpods or something like that. This is capable of generating a
virtual reality environment as the name implies and that is why I earlier
commented regarding its accessibility features that it may not be so easy to
make this fully accessible as it has an extreme visual focus.

2023-06-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If the keypad is not showing you have to tap the button to show it. You will
find buttons for things like Mute, Add Call and so on and one button will say
"Keypad". Same applies if you are on a call and the keypad shows, but you want
it to go away because maybe you want one of these buttons to mute a call or add
another caller to a 3-way call. You have to go to the very bottom right of the
keypad past the pound key (you can do this by tapping the bottom half of the
screen with 4 fingers) and you find a button called "Hide", this will hide the
keypad and reveal the other buttons.

Re: Question about calls, when you can't get access to the keypad

2023-06-10 Thread William James
It depends on how you have typing set up. I have mine set to touch typing.
This means when I find a letter or number, I lift my finger and the symbol is
entered. If you have typing set to standard, you have to double-tap the symbol.

I would make sure the phone is set to full screen. This should eleviate your
issue.

Ever since it became possible to do so, I mapped the two finger swiped left and right gestures to turn the rotor left and right and it works beautifully for me and several of my clients. Re: Just a Q

Another way to think about it is that you just need to place two fingers on the screen with some space between them and have them move in opposite but parallel directions. You don’t need to actually rotate the screen. For example, you could
place your pointer and ring fingers on the screen just a bit apart and then slide your pointer finger down while sliding your ring finger up. I’m not saying this particular example will work for everyone, and I don’t use it myself, but maybe knowing that you
don’t actually need a circular rotating motion will help some people with this gesture.

Interesting to hear how different people work the roter. I find it easiest to hold my thumb and pointer finger a couple of inches apart more or less in the mi.le of the phone and then turn the phone holding my two fingers in place.

We sure do. I normally do the router gesture by using my thumb and middle fingers. Been doing that for many years now.

Hello, I replied to this on MacVisionaries, but what I’m talking about is for iOs. :)

Two little things I’ve thought would be useful:

A VoiceOver gesture, (say a 2-finger swipe right) in the messages window to send the composed message. Instead of locating the send button.

A VoiceOver gesture to spell the current word in focus. Often I’m on the web and want something spelled out. It takes many little steps to turn the rotor to word, flick to the one I want, then turn the rotor to character, flick letter by letter. A simple shortcut
 would be super useful.

Those are two little things off the top of my head. :)

Take care,
Traci

You know?  The only software feature that I really want added to the OS is
the ability to permanently save and organize iMessage content into folders.

Are there any features, accessibility-related or not, that you would like to

I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to reading your replies.

Oh, I have to do the double tap. I feel more secure with that.

I just can't figure out how to get emoji's on a text message.

It depends on how you have typing set up. I have mine set to touch typing.
This means when I find a letter or number, I lift my finger and the symbol is
entered. If you have typing set to standard, you have to double-tap the symbol.

I would make sure the phone is set to full screen. This should eleviate your
issue.

Re: iPhone 12 does not send SMS via physical Sim

2023-06-10 Thread Kelly Pierce
iPhones are notorious for not recognizing a new SIM card from a
different carrier or doing it partially. I solved this problem by
factory resetting my iPhone. When it restarted, it worked as it
normally should. The bummer here is in restoring data. Music is not
saved to iCloud so it will be necessary to connect the iPhone to a
computer for an iTunes synch.

That is interesting because I have been to the Philippines many times ever
since I had an iPhone 4S and I have always had local SIM cards from various
providers there and I have also been to Germany and the US where I had local
SIM cards and I never even once had an issue with any of my various iPhone
models not recognizing a SIM. I do usually turn the phone off, insert the new
SIM and then turn it on, but that has never failed me.

Re: Emoji's

2023-06-10 Thread Bill Gallik
Well Ms. Arnold; I have to ask, exactly what did you do to place an Emoji into
your text?

I assume you were in the “Message area” of the text when you tried to include
an Emoji. And, of course, you activated the “Emoji button.”

At that point, you would select the Emoji(s) you wanted to include in your
message and double tap each one as it was selected. You should have found said
Emojis were included in you text.

BTW: Emojis can be included in any of the “text edit fields” one might
encounter on an iPhone. I use them quite liberally in Notes, Mail (😇) and
other apps that deploy the on-screen keyboard.

RE: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Buying one as an investment might not be a bad idea, just make sure you never
even crack the seal of the box. Considering a few original iPhones in that
condition sold for between $40,000 and $65,000 after what, 16 years or so, not
bad.
The original iPhone cost $499 or $599 back in 2007 depending on configuration,
so even if you paid $599 and you sold it for about $40,000 after 16 years that
would mean an interest rate of 30% compounded annually.
Of course nobody could have predicted that and I just read that if you had
bought $3,000 worth of Apple stock in January of 2007 when Steve Jobs announced
the iPhone, that would be worth over $139,000 today, also a pretty good
investment and at a little over 27% interest compounded annually not far behind
what you could have made if you still had an unopened original iPhone.

Of course nobody could have predicted that and I just read that if you had
bought $3,000 worth of Apple stock in January of 2007 when Steve Jobs announced
the iPhone, that would be worth over $139,000 today, also a pretty good
investment and at a little over 27% interest compounded annually not far behind
what you could have made if you still had an unopened original iPhone.

lmao this is only the first gen relax. People talked the same trash about the
IPhone and now they sell like hotcakes. I am sure the price will come down over
time and this will be refined into one badass device. I plan on buying one of
these and holding on to it as a collectors item. Who knows what it will be in
10 years. I personally am hoping for a dive pod to really get full emersion.

I couldn’t agree more. I think this whole virtual reality thing is
a waste of bloody time. And there’s no way I would ever pay that
much money for this stupid headset. I feel the same way about all

virtual reality, what’s actually happening. Sorry I’m sure some
