I read the information and it looks like you can keep the iphone in a case

I have the Otterbox Defender case on my iphone.

Do you have a case on your iphone, and, does it work okay with the lanyard

 Thanks.

Hi, no I do not. I got it yesterday and played around with it and when I
was searching for other free apps today I noticed it was still free. So,
it could be a few days, or today could be the last one. I use the News
Store app to tell me of apps which are free. It's around 90% accurate
meaning that occasionally I'll open an app from it's list only to find
out it's no longer free. However I love this Store News app.

Hello all, this app is free now and is Voice Over friendly. It will find
problems or areas of concern with your contacts. For example, contacts
with no phone numbers, duplicate numbers, duplicate or missing names,
ETC. I've played with this some and merged a few contacts and it's all
been done right. The areas I've seen so far are totally accessible with
 Voice Over.

Hi:
4square is accessible. You open the app. Bottom right
hand side of screen is the check in button. A list of
places you are near is brought up. double tap the
location, then flick to the right until you see check in.
You can then leave a message, a photo, and check in to

example I checked in to Zaxby's. A tip left by a customer
said the cheese bites were good. I tried the cheese bites
based on a tip left by another person.

Hi:
Mantis Bible Study is a free app; however you have to
purchase some content. They have concordances
dictionaries, commentaries, and different versions of the
Bible. The verses and words in the Bible are linked. You
can use the corcondence and dictionaries to look up
content. You can make notes, bookmark verses, email them,
etc. I bought the New American Standard Bible with
Strongs concordance for $30. Due to the links, reading
with speech can be choppy. It is a good app for study.

Hi, not exactly. When you jailbreak your phone, you
are not limited to the sandbox experience. Apps can
interact a lot more with each other and you can do
some neat things which Apple hasn't allowed. One of
the simplest things you can do is theme your phone.
So, if you want a Star Trek theme for your phone with
badges, icons, and sounds which are all Trek-based,
you can do that, but only if you jailbreak.

Hi, if you jailbreak your iPhone, it cannot be
serviced. Also, if you jailbreak your iPhone, and
call for tech support and mention that it's
jailbroken, they probably won't help you. However if
you jailbreak your iPhone and ever have to have it
serviced, a restore of the software will remove the
jailbreak. All that being said, there are 2 apps
which come to mind which might fit the bill for you.

 1. Filer. This app doesn't require a jailbreak. It
allows you to upload files, such as music,
documents, or whatever to the iPhone. Then from the app, you can
manage or do whatever with these

files, i.e. open them in other applications, ETC. If
you just tap the music files you upload, you can
listen to the music that way. However this isn't the
same experience as using the built-in Music app of
the iPhone. Basically, everything you upload to
Filer will stay in Filer, but no jailbreak is
 necessary.
 2. PWN Tunes. This is a jailbreak only app.
Basically when you connect your iPhone to the pc,
you can go to sever folders inside it, just like a usb stick. One of
 these folders is called my

music and if you copy music there, you can later
listen to it from the iPhone Music player. When you
want to remove it, just connect it to the pc again
and remove it from that same folder and it will be gone from
 the music player.
 Good luck.

 Hello listers,

I find the app super easy to use. I love the way it
reads my friend's posts to me. That's just me
though. I figured out a few things.

 1. I could not get the app to work properly once I
authorized the app through faceBook. However, I
cleared all of the apps from my app switcher
including the voiceBook app and the faceBook app.
Then I did a quick reboot by quickly pressing the
lock button five times. After that the app worked.
I don't know if the restart of my iPhone was
necessary but I did that just in case.

 2. Flicking up and down does move me through my
newsfeed. If I double tap on a newsfeed item, then
a sort of menu page opens. There are many options
including, like, who likes this, comment, status, go
to top, go to bottom, refresh, done, and voiceBook
 settings..

 3. In voiceBook settings I was able to turn
application posts off. I really do not want to see
who is playing farm games and such. I was really
happy to see this option in settings.

 4. If you select the option to leave a comment, it
will bring you to a screen that says post status or
something like that. I was afraid I had hit the
wrong choice; however, it was indeed where I was to
leave a comment. I tested it. Find the text box,
double tap it, and type away. Then flick to the
left and the button is labeled save. Double tap the
save button and your comment should post. This
procedure is the same if you choose the status
button and you want to post your status for your
 friends.

 5. The refresh button does refresh your newsfeed.
I then had to double tap on the newsfeed item
currently on my screen to get to the menu to go to
the top of the screen. I don't know if I would have
been brought to the top of the newsfeed if I were
more patient and waited for the refresh to complete
 though.

That's about all I have figured out so far. I did
leave a status update and a friend commented. I
know this because the official faceBook app sent my
iPhone a notification. I have not experimented with
how to easily and quickly reply to this comment. So
far, I have not found anywhere on this app to access
any notifications. :) It may or may not exist.

Best of luck to you all. Overall, it's a clean, and
very simple app that I am quite happy with to read
 my friends posts.

it reads my friend's posts to me.

There are many options
including, like, who likes this, comment, status,
go to top, go to bottom, refresh, done, and
 voiceBook settings..

 3. In voiceBook settings I was able to turn
application posts off. I really do not want to see
who is playing farm games and such. I was really
happy to see this option in settings.

 4. If you select the option to leave a comment, it
will bring you to a screen that says post status or
something like that. I was afraid I had hit the
wrong choice; however, it was indeed where I was to
leave a comment. I tested it. Find the text box,
double tap it, and type away. Then flick to the
left and the button is labeled save. Double tap
the save button and your comment should post.
This procedure is the same if you choose the status
button and you want to post your status for your
 friends.

 5. The refresh button does refresh your newsfeed.
I then had to double tap on the newsfeed item
currently on my screen to get to the menu to go to
the top of the screen. I don't know if I would
have been brought to the top of the newsfeed if I
were more patient and waited for the refresh to
 complete though.

That's about all I have figured out so far. I did
leave a status update and a friend commented. I
know this because the official faceBook app sent my
iPhone a notification. I have not experimented
with how to easily and quickly reply to this
comment. So far, I have not found anywhere on
this app to access any notifications. :) It may
 or may not exist.

Best of luck to you all. Overall, it's a clean,
and very simple app that I am quite happy with to
 read my friends posts.

Hi everyone!
Okay, trying to recover from resetting all of my phone's
settings last week. Ouch! Here's my question.
Is VoiceOver supposed to be able to talk at one level for
one screen like home, and at another level for something
like when you're using a headset. I've been trying to get
the level up for Siri without being blasted. I think I
got things evened out by turning my main level up to
about 90 per cent and then turning VoiceOver down. But
now if I listen to something like Tune In Radio, it's too
loud. If I turn the radio station down, am I changing the
master volume and messing up everything else. Man, think
I could use a major volume tutorial right about now.
grin. Thanks.

Re: More feedback on speed dots?

Hi,

I tried with SpeeDots but really didn't like them. In feeling for the dots I
found I slowed down and listened to what I didn't want to hear ... All a bit

Perhaps it was because I had been typing without dots for a few months so I
soon went back to that method of working.

 Hi all,

I went through some of the viPhone archives and read
about folks using the speed dots screen covers.

I was hoping to get some more feedback on the 2 models.
If I understand them correctly, 1 model has all the
letters covered with dots except fj, and the other model
has fj covered. Both models have the other dots
 sprinkled around.

I'm curious who is using which one and if they feel they
 are worth it.

For those of you using the model where nearly all the
letters are covered, are you able to text without really
paying attention to voiceover? Say for example, you are
 in a noisy place.

My last concern is the screen placement and longevity. I
read a handful of messages where folks couldn't get their
screens to stick and stay in place. How annoying for a
$10 purchase. Any further thoughts on this? Is it a
good idea to take the cover to Verizon and have them fit
 it?

Thanks for the info. In a perfect world I'd have a
braille display, but $10 is far more realistic then
 $1700. :)

I would like to point out there is no mention in Settings
of a Premium voice. You either have Compact voice on or
off. It is misleading to talk about voices in any other
way, even if in practical terms that is the meaning.

Here is where I am confused. When I look at my settings,
I see Use Compact Voice On. Does that mean I am
currently using the non-Compact voice or that the Compact
voice is on. If I tap that button and it changes to Use
Compact Voice Off, is the compact voice off and I am
using the premium voice or will it begin using the
premium, Compact voice when I tap that button and it
changes to Use Compact Voice On.

There is probably some engineer's logic to these toggles,
but I do not see them as consistent throughout settings.
Sometimes it means this is the state you are in, but
other times it means this is what you will change to.

I am simple, so any simple explanation will be
appreciated.

To my ear, I am using the original VoiceOver voice when
my setting is Use Compact Voice On. I have been told
this is the compact voice and not the high-quality,
premium voice. But, if I switch to that other one, it
sounds gravelly and distorted. I may not have perfect
pitch or all the qualities of some master musicians'
ears, but I do have good hearing um, when I listen, so
says my wife). :)

Away with me...

Eric

SKYPE PROBLEM

2012-05-05 Thread Carol Pearson

Hi all,

I'm using the recent upgraded version of Skype and, for the most part, it's
fine. However, I notice that a few VI folk are having problems locating the
End button on a call and sometimes it just doesn't seem to be visible. In
addition and perhaps more annoying for me, I can no longer get the caller
through the speaker and have to keep the phone to my ear for the duration.

Are there any work arounds for these things that I haven't yet discovered,
please, or do we have to live this way now?

We particularly liked having friends on speaker phone and it worked well so
that more than one of us at home could join in the conversation so I hope
there is something I can do.

For $29.99 a year you can have itunes match which will store your itunes

computer in itunes as well as on the ios platform. I love it and it works
fine here.

Hi, if you are trying to have 2 computers so you can sync your phone from
either one, I don't think it will be possible. Apple allows you to
register, I think, up to 5 devices. So when you install iTunes and
activate the second computer, it will be seen as another library. The
iPhone can only be synced with 1 library. Now, on the other hand, if you
just want iTunes on the second computer for listening to music directly
on that computer, it's possible just as long as you still only sync your
phone to and from the original computer. This is how I understand your
question.

Anyway, a couple of questions for those of you who at least who have got
to grips with it and feel able to give these a shot!

1) I've installed ITunes on a second computer and want to import all
contents of my current ITunes so as to be able to swap freely between
computers. I seem to remember you can copy all the contents of the
ITunes folder structure and replace on the second computer; but does
this really work so simply or do I need to be careful which files I take
across?

2) My ITunes seems to be behaving rather erratically about ejecting my
iPod and/or phone after use. (I do ensure that sync is complete before I
attempt to eject.) Would it help to rename them in a certain way, or is
there anything else I can do?? At present one is named as iPod and the
other as Phone.

3) What's the easiest way to work on a group of songs and select them
when they're not necessarily next to each other?

Finally, here's a suggestion or two:

I know some really hate ITunes and, at the very least, others of us
struggle to get to grips with it. Jonathan's podcasts of course were
excellent but I personally would like perhaps shorter tuition type
podcasts, dealing only with a task or two in each session, with
repetition if needed and a second/third walk through of that task so
that you can practice along as you listen. If anyone feels able to do
more podcasts on ITunes for those of us who find it more difficult to
work with the programme, I for one would very much appreciate this.

Finally, I am working hard to try to learn more in this area and, for
example, have been getting to grips with the various shortcut keys
available which certainly do speed things up. I would recommend that any
beginner tries to look at the Help for this programme. (Why didn't I

Hello,

I did it by, after registering both computers, copying my iTunes library
folders and placing them in both computers. It worked well for the two weeks

Hi, I'm thinking that the term reset and reboot and restore may be
used interchangeably or incorrectly. Resetting your phone is done from the
Settings App. This can involve setting the icons to alphabetical order, or
it can involve totally wiping your phone as if it was new. This is also
called Restoring. Don't you love all these terms? Now if your phone is
acting strange, or not responding, then rebooting might be in order. Some
people will say there is a soft and a hard reboot. I really don't know
which is which, but pressing the sleep button for 5 or 6 times quickly
seems to reboot it rather quickly. So maybe this is a soft reboot? If you
do what you are asking about, where you press sleep and home at the same
time for about 10 to 15 seconds, it reboots and takes a bit longer to come
up. Hard reboot maybe?

I haven't googled anything I said here, so if I'm totally wrong, I'm sure
I'll be corrected.

Good luck.

You have to install the updater, then plug in your Jambox into your USB

and the software should let you know if there is an update. From there
it's

hit or miss. If there is an update available, there is supposed to be a

you

are lucky enough to find it. Good luck.

I was messing around inside the xFinity app, and I have

The big thing about Status Report that I was not fond of
is all of
your social network updates appear in 1 massive list. If

just FB only
updates, instead of wading through both Twitter and FB.
However, for

Re: Bible app

2012-04-26 Thread Carol Pearson
Yes, it's been fine for a few weeks, since just a couple of days after we
last reported it. I've just upgraded again but haven't stop to read yet.

I'd like to see a facility which was on the Online Bible some years back
where you could put together a verses list for a topic etc. May suggest it.

The app from Life Church just called Bible has been
updated, and we can read now without a hitch. The only
thing we can't readi s the reading plans. I have a
contact that I will notify of this.

Happy reading,

Re: Accessible stopwatch/timer app

2012-04-24 Thread Carol Pearson
Jenn, how versatile is the alarm? For example, I need to clean Norris's
ears every three days and then sometimes there's a fifth Sunday in the month
when something happens that doesn't on any other Sunday.

In addition, do I take it that this won't work with Siri and you have to
therefore do it manually, so is it quick and easy!

The app is called alarmed. That is alarm with an ED at
the end. It has a super reminder in it.

 Hello Jenny,

 A different Mark here.

 This app sounds interesting.

What is the name of the app?

When I searched the app store for super reminder, all
that came up was a super fast reminder egg timer.

 Hi everyone,

I am looking for a specific type of timer/stopwatch
 app. I know that
the native clock application has both but there's a
 specific feature I
need. I'm looking for something that will go off like
 a timmer but
repeatedly... so say if I set it for one minute
 intervals, it'd go off
continuously every minute until I stopped/shut down
 the app, instead
of just once after a minute like the timer in the
 clock app.

Any suggestions would be grately appreciated. I
 wanted to try some
interval training and though this would be a good way
 to be accurate
 while doing it. :)

You may want to try emailganizor.

all these messages, as you may guess, results in a very
long, frustrating and tiring operation.

Does exist an app that do the this job for us?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Length of Dictated Messages

2012-04-20 Thread carol pearson
Linda,

You either need to stop your dictation before they 30 seconds is up or, if you
find yourself running over, simply let Siri stop then start again. It works for
me!
