Re: creating ringtones

2017-08-26 Thread Todd Bernhard
I wrote an app, called Auto Ringtone, that lets you create talking
ringtones using assorted voices (and sound effects) for custom talking
caller ID. Several folks here use it and there are free versions. Hope it
helps!

Re: Iphone SE Question

2017-03-25 Thread Todd Bernhard
No, they added a RED version of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

The SE now has 32 GB of RAM or 128 GB instead of 16 or 64. That's the only
change.

Re: Accessible ringtone app

2016-09-28 Thread Todd Bernhard
May I humbly suggest my AutoRingtone apps. Some are free. They let you
create talking Caller ID ringtones (with optional sound effects) that say
whatever you type, such as "Jeremy, your phone is ringing. The President is
calling." in a variety of text-to-speech voices.

Here's a link to one of the free ones:

Thanks, everyone, for the the appreciation of our AllAccess app.

It is for the world. We just couldn't get all access dot com! So it's at
http://AllAccess.US ... just think of it as "Access Us" instead of Follow
Us or Like Us.

And we would love a review on iTunes. That really helps us, since it's a
free app.

Apple doesn't allow such a thing, so I created the next best thing,
AutoRingtone. There are free versions. You create a talking announcement
ringtone in dozens of voices and assign the ringtone to specific callers.

You can use one of the free versions of my AutoRingtone and Ringtone

announce your name or greeting, and the caller's name, in dozens of voices.

Re: A question about an app called my Q for A lift master garage door opener

2015-05-02 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi Casey and everyone,

Todd Bernhard here, from AllAccess and AutoRingtone. I also have the
Chamberlain MY Q system, and I am sighted. But I played with it in
Voiceover and here is my recommendation.

First, get the Wink Hub from Quirky. It is $50 but I got mine at Home Depot
for free during a promotion that required you buying two other Wink items.
I bought a Wink Lightbulb and Wink gas tank monitor. But you may find it
useful for automating more parts of your home. It also works with my front
door lock and it works with various thermostats, etc. Wink is like a
universal remote control system for a variety of smart home devices, not
just those made by Wink and Quirky.

The Wink Appcan control the MyQ and is a bit more friendly for VoiceOver.
You can use the Shortcuts button to create actions. I created one called
open and one called close and those are voiceover enabled. Then just run
the Wink App, select Shortcuts, then select either open or close.

More info at http://www.WinkApp.com

2015-04-26 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hey Sieghard and everyone,

Some of you may know me from my AllAccess.US talking menus app or from my
AutoRingtone Talking Caller ID apps.

But you may not know that for the past seven years or so, I have been a
Contributing Editor for iPhone Life Magazine.

I can assure you there's nothing fishy about the contest. They're a good
bunch of folks, based in Iowa, and really committed to the iOS community.
The disclaimer is pretty much boilerplate standard stuff. But certainly,
read it and decide for yourself.

I got my Apple Watch on Friday and have submitted four apps so far. I hope
to be able to make an app specifically for this community.

RING TONES WITH 4S

2015-03-03 Thread Todd Bernhard
make sure you have the complete area code stored for their phone number. If you
are in the 79 area code and only have 555-1234 stored. then the phone doesn't
always recognize that as being the same 789-555-1234 for example, at least for
ringtone purposes.

Feel free to try one of my free AutoRingtone apps for Talking Caller ID in
dozens of voices!

Re: accessible free ringtones?

2015-01-21 Thread Todd Bernhard
Rob,

AllAccess is free, and it's been discussed here a lot so I didn't give much
explanation. It helps you find local businesses and for many restaurants it
offers talking menus. Get it at http://ALAX.US

There are lots of free versions of AutoRingtone and Ringtone Director. Try
any one of the free versions to see if it meets your needs and you may not
need to PRO version which adds more voices.

Here's a link to Ringtone Director:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ringtone-director/id434488239?mt=8

And to
AutoRingtone UK voices:

Re: accessible free ringtones?

2015-01-20 Thread Todd Bernhard
Todd here, maker of the AllAccess.US app featuring talking menus.

Please consider my AutoRingtone Ringtone Director app. There are several
different free versions, with a subset of the voices. just search for
ringtone director or autoringtone. It is voiceover friendly, and whatever
you type is spoken in over fifty voices. I also have a version with
President Bush or Obama's voices! Think of that tonight as you listen to
the State of the Union speech. Wouldn't it be cool to put your words in the
mouth of the President and have it turned into a talking ringtone? You can
also have the custom message preceded by 200 different sound effects to
'get your attention'.

Re: All Menus or All Access?

2014-12-09 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi everyone,

Thanks for answering on my behalf. Our app is All Access, and Menus is
just a part of what the app offers. Our app is free, and will always be.
Apple just changed the phrase from Free to Get, but our app does not have
In-App purchases.

I know about AllMenus. They were bought by GrubHub, which merged with
Seamless. AllMenus has not been updated in over four years, since October
2010.

Re: All access

2014-11-21 Thread Todd Bernhard
Thanks, everyone.

Yes, we get most of our info from FourSquare, so if that info is out of
date, then we might be as well. We do have a way to add or delete content
independently of FourSquare, but it's not a bad idea for a business owner
to make sure their content is up-to-date on FourSquare. Also, individuals
not associated with the business can make suggestions directly to
FourSquare, such as businesses that have closed, etc. I am a FourSquare
"Superuser" which means I can usually get content updated that an end user
might not.

If they have a menu but FourSquare doesn't list it, they can contact us, as
well as FourSquare to make it happen. There are several alternatives so we
can discuss the options. It's a good idea to remind restaurants of their
obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It's not always
practical to have Braille menus or have a waiter read the menu, including
pricing, so an electronic menu lets them cater to the entire community. We
also built the iOS version of All Access such that deaf users can build an
order and touch a button to have it spoken out loud on their behalf.

Right now, the iOS app has a History function that remembers all the recent

For workarounds, or for more functionality, try a free version of my

whatever you type and you can then link them with individual contacts. The

2013-08-13 Thread Todd Bernhard
Thanks, Cher.

The "All" button brings up all kinds of businesses that our database
provider, Locu, has in their system. While it is mostly restaurants, with
over one million menus in the database, they are expanding to include hair
and nail salons, spas, etc., so choosing ALL will indeed include more than
just food places.

As they expand the database, we will offer more refinements. But the ALL
button is a nice way to make sure you find a business that might not be
classified correctly. For example, different Subway franchises could be
listed under one or more of Deli, Fast Food, Vegetarian so by choosing All,
you have a better chance of finding something you like.

The other refinement we've added is to offer a +1 and -1 mile radius
option, so you can search from 5 miles and beyond. That version is
awaiting Apple's approval. They just emailed us today that it's in review.

Thanks for your patience, and feedback.

Hi Paula,

I just tried it and indeed Cheesecake Factory has a very complex menu. The

Re: Problem with All Access Latest 2.2 Version

2013-08-05 Thread Todd Bernhard
Alan,

As we discussed privately, I was able to plug in your address, expand my
radius, and find the results you were looking for.

I don't think you were able to set your radius correctly. I will submit an
update that displays the current radius at the top.

Another common source of confusion is the 'All' button. It means all, as
in all businesses. So it is not an error to find a business without a
menu. It could be a hair salon. If you want to narrow the results to
specific types of restaurants, try the Search by Category or Cuisine mode.

If you find a restaurant without a menu, then we need your help. If it's a
restaurant you visit often, consider asking the manager to provide their
info using www.Locu.com. It is free and Locu can retrieve their menu from
the restaurant's website, a word document, or even a hardcopy menu!
There's no charge for the app and no charge for a restaurant to be
included. Since Yelp and GoDaddy use Locu, it's a worthwhile effort.

Like Sieghard, I like the MyCharge Peak because it has built-in

I write for iPhone Life Magazine, so I met with their company at the

you can still use the older model with a USB Lightning cable.

Re: Major update to All Access Talking Menus

2013-08-05 Thread Todd Bernhard
Paul,

The app now defaults to a 3 mile radius, but we will make that clearer in
an update. Change the radius on the search by category page.

Red Robin near me has a menu, so it's up to corporate or a franchise owner
to make sure their content is included by visiting www.Locu.com. The app
has access to over one million menus.

Re: Major update to All Access Talking Menus

2013-08-05 Thread Todd Bernhard
Thanks everyone for the feedback. As Sieghard and others have mentioned,
not all restaurants have menus, but the app has access to over one million
menus, so the odds are pretty good you will find a quite a few that do.
And we need your help asking the manager at your favorite restaurants to
add their menu, if needed. Remember to remind them that it is totally free
to do so. They can just visit www.Locu.com or contact us and we can walk
them through it.

An Android version is definitely our most frequent request, and it is on
our roadmap. Rather than pursue both Apple and Android simultaneously,
and deliver a half-baked version on each, we have tried to build a solid
iPhone app, responding to user feedback, and revising the app, to get to
the point where we can build an Android version.

Thanks again and tell your friends. The app is also good for low-vision
and sighted users, because with the LogoLauncher feature, you can scan a
logo to bring up that restaurant's menu and info. It's pretty neat! Over
1,000 logos are in the database, like Subway, Dairy Queen, and others.

Also, AppleVis is looking for nominations for apps that help the community.
We are too new (less than three months) for the current round of voting,
but you can nominate us for the next round! We would love your support.

Thanks!

Major update to All Access Talking Menus

2013-08-01 Thread Todd Bernhard
Greetings friends,

Apple just approved a major update to ALL ACCESS that addresses the biggest
concern many of you had. We figured out a way to find restaurants and
menus, even if they are incorrectly listed in our database provider. What
that means to you is you are much more likely to find all your favorite
restaurants, and some new ones. We also now let you choose a radius of 3
miles, 10 miles, or 30 miles around either your current location or an
address you type in.

Here's a quick link to get the app, http://ALAX.US

We love your feedback, and keep revising the app to meet your needs. We're
on our seventh version in just two months! Be sure to use the Feedback
button within the app to let us know what else we can do to make the app
useful to you.

Take care.

Thanks for the post. Yep, our app is All Access, and it offers talking
menus and more.

We love your feedback and have submitted about a half dozen updates in two
months based on your feedback.

An update that narrows the search radius is awaiting Apple's approval, and
then we'll have an option where you can easily change the radius. Several
users were concerned that far away places were being displayed.

Re: Seeking Advice on Creating Ring Tones

2013-07-21 Thread Todd Bernhard
Bill and everyone,

Apple does not allow any app to actually install the ringtone. You must
get the file into iTunes, on your Mac or PC, then sync your iPhone.

Many of you are users of my AutoRingtone app, and have reported that it
works well with Voiceover. The app lets you create Talking Caller ID for
each contact that says whatever you type, in dozens of voices, including
Apple's Siri. Our users have created over six million ringtones using the
app. It's fun to create the ringtones, and fun when your phone rings!
There are free versions if you search the app store for autoringtone, or
get the app at http://AutoRingtone.com/AutoRingtonePro

Thanks. We are planning to add a button that will let you report 'stale'
data but for now, please use the Feedback button on the home screen of the
app, and try to be specific (i.e. include your location, the restaurant
name, etc.)

We are reliant upon the Locu.com database, which is also providing data to
Yelp and GoDaddy.com, so we expect it will get better.

Restaurants can also add their info for free, by visiting www.Locu.com or
contacting us, so please encourage the ones you like to do so.

2013-06-30 Thread Todd Bernhard
Gary,

Try searching for 'All' or searching by name. Sometimes those restaurants
may not be categorized correctly in the Locu.com database. They might be
under American not Steak. Or not classified as a restaurant even. It's
out of our hands. I've asked Locu and they may have a solution soon. But
for now, try ALL or name search. There are over one million menus in the
database so you should be able to find quite a few near you.

All Access update is out - search by typing part of a restaurant's name

2013-06-29 Thread Todd Bernhard
Greetings,

Thank you for your continued support and feedback. The fourth version of
our All Access Taking Menus & More app has just been approved by Apple, and
the app has only been out exactly one month!

This version lets you type all or part of a restaurant's name when
searching. So you can type S U B W for example and have subway restaurants
listed.

Here's a link to the app:

http://bit.ly/AllAccessMenus

Keep sending your feedback, using the feedback button in the app, and we
appreciate your reviews on the iTunes app store. Your help makes the app

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-08 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi Alan,

Thanks for the kind words.  I checked the Locu.com database, and the Olive
Garden is indeed there, and listed as Italian, but for some reason, they are
listed not as a restaurant but under the category "active life"

In the next update, there is a button for ALL that will include all businesses,
so then Olive Garden should show up.

I'll try to get feedback to the Locu folks to clean up the database.

Thanks and take care.

they have their web site OliveGarden.com.  I wonder if that's suppose to
serve all areas.  I'm posting this because I think it's possible that I
keep looking for something that isn't there and do not want say it's a problem
with the app when it isn't.  Other then that, the restaurants I've selected

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-07 Thread Todd Bernhard
Les,

At the bottom of the list page is a horizontally scrolling menu that lets you
refine by cuisine (or choose All)

That is going away in the next version because it is becoming a source of
confusion.

Instead, when you initially choose Search Nearby, from the home screen, you
will be presented with dozens of choices of cuisines like American, Bakery,
Chinese, Coffee, Deli, etc., in alphabetical order.  Choose one of those (or
choose the All button) and then you will get your scrolling list.

I will let you know when Apple approves it.

Hi Todd,

Okay, let me explain how I am accessing restaurants currently.  I choose Search
Nearby and scroll through the list.  At the end of the list, I encounter
"Search All Near You" with the prompt, double tap to edit.  When I double tap,
I am taken to the last restaurant in the list rather than to an edit field
which is the expected behavior when one double taps on a field which states
double tap will allow one to edit.  Perhaps I'm in the wrong area for
specifying a search, but it's the only option I see thus far.  Thanks.

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-07 Thread Todd Bernhard
Right now, it's a little complicated to enter a street address, but in the
version awaiting Apple's approval, it's easier.

You need to get to the Settings screen. Within the app, after you've started a
search, touch the help button in the top right.  It will display help, and two
buttons. One is continue and the other is settings.  Touch settings and you can
change to a manually entered address instead of using GPS.

In the next version, there is a Settings button on the first screen.

Thanks!

Thanks, Les.  The app lets you type in a street address as your origin, and the
default radius is 50 kilometers, which is over 30 miles, so that should cover
most searches.

Having said that, it probably wouldn't be too hard to add a button for the next
25 listings so I will try to do that.

Hi Todd,

It would be helpful to be able to expand one's search in the same town or city.
For example, I'm going to a restaurant in Albany, New York where I reside.  It
doesn't show up in the 25 listings.  I know what street it's on, so if I can
search by a specific street, I'd likely be able to locate the restaurant in
question.  If one could search within a certain radius as is often the case
with GPS applications, that might be another way to attack this.  Thanks for
your efforts and I look forward to the next update.

The app shows 25 matches. We could add a button for the next 25 but currently
it doesn't show more. The next version, which is waiting for Apple's approval,
makes it easier to search by cuisine so you can find 25 Chinese restaurants
near you, etc., so that might be plenty. It is also easier to change your
location so you can search the next town over etc.

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-06 Thread Todd Bernhard
Sieghard is right, but I've discovered a bit more info.  Many of those
restaurants are indeed already in the Locu database, but they simply haven't
been classified as to what type of cuisine, or in some cases, whether they are
a restaurant at all.  For example a hotel/lodge could have a restaurant.
That's why Sieghard saw several results previously and not so many now.

So, I am introducing a cuisine page before the search listings, so you can
narrow the results.  This was always possible but the existing app uses a small
horizontal scrolling bar at the bottom.  It is tricky to do a three finger
swipe on.  This method will be much easier with voiceover.

One of the buttons on this page will be for All businesses.  It will return all
restaurants, but also all spas, etc., that Locu knows about.  I think it is the
best compromise.  All results will be returned but you'll have the option to
narrow them as long as the database has that info.

In the meantime, it's worth asking favorite restaurants to register with Locu,
especially if they already have their info but just need to update the cuisine
type.  And it's free for restaurants to be listed!

Thanks everyone!  I'll submit an update tonight.

Thanks.  It's easy to detect if voiceover is running, and if so, not display
the text, but the text is useful if you have low vision and still use
voiceover.  I'll keep at it.  Thanks!

Hi Todd,

You might have to look into this since I’m not familiar with programming, but I
do know that another developer who I am beta testing for simply made stuff that
was not relevant for a blind user go away so Voiceover didn’t see it at all and
skipped over it. I think this might be possible.

Dan, if you go to the help screen you may be able
to find the settings button. It is about halfway down and just slightly right

the middle of the screen.

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-06 Thread Todd Bernhard
Lisa,

Thanks.  Yes, those mystery buttons display the text of the item.  So if you
had a sandwich called Peanut Butter And Jelly, there would be a big photo
button that would show a photo of that sandwich, and below it one, two, or
three text lines in a text view depending on the length of the sandwich name.
Those display the words Peanut, Butter, and Jelly.

The complaint before was that people thought they could type in those fields
since they contain text.  You cannot.  They are for display only.

I tagged them as hidden from voiceover, so when you explicitly touch them,
nothing happens.

However, it appears that if you are flicking, you still have to flick past them.

I plan to fix that next.  What is your suggestion?  Should I add them back so
they are not hidden, but have them announced as "display only text field"?
Thanks!

Re: All Access update is out

2013-06-06 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi Sieghard, and everyone. Thanks for announcing the update and saving me
the trouble! I was going to do so this morning, so you're like my own
public relations firm!

Okay, Sieghard may be a special case and literally only have one restaurant
nearby, at least according to our database. Remember, the old app showed
businesses like spas, salons, etc., so now there are going to be less
results. When there is exactly one match, it doesn't bother showing a
list, but takes you directly to the info for that one business. From our
emails, I know you live in a somewhat rural area in Canada. You can change
your location using the Settings button from within the Help screen. We
plan to make that Settings button a more prominent button on the opening
screen.

If you change your location to Vancouver for example, you might get to
experience what the app has to offer in a more populated city. In fact, I
just pretended to be in your city, and experienced what you did, then
changed it to Vancouver and got a lot more results.

Those hidden buttons are just redundant. People were complaining because
they were text fields that displayed the name of the meal, etc., but that
info is also provided with the photo button. Folks thought they could type
in them, because they are text fields, but they were flagged as not
editable. So we have hidden them from voiceover. But now it appears you
could get a unlabeled button notice when you try to identify it. I am open
to suggestions as to which direction to go. Perhaps we do not hide them
but specifically say this is a non editable descriptor?

I try to monitor this group, but the most reliable way to provide specific
feedback to our team is using the feedback button on the home screen of the
app.

I will be at the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired today in
Rochester, NY getting first hand feedback, and plan to submit an update
tonight based on that and your emails. Thanks!

Thank you for your patience. I think you can tell we are trying to
incorporate all your great feedback as quickly as possible, within the
limitations of Apple's approval process.

Also, next week my team and I are presenting the app to potential investors
in New York City. With such an investment, we can keep enhancing the app,
adding restaurants, porting it to Android, and take it to the next level.
It's a free app and restaurants can be listed for free, so we need your
support. Your positive reviews will go a long way to help. There is a
review button on the front page of the app so thank you in advance.

Re: all access talking menus

2013-06-01 Thread Todd Bernhard
Brian,

It works fine in Canada. I changed my address to Toronto and it came up
with tons of restaurants with menus.

As has been discussed on this forum, by default, it shows businesses like
hair salons, spas, etc., that don't have menus. We have turned that off by
default in the free update awaiting Apple's approval.

The app has over one million menus. If you find a restaurant that doesn't
have one, please consider telling them that they can add theirs for free.

Re: Apple just approved All Access: Talking Menus & More

2013-05-30 Thread Todd Bernhard
Robert,

Translation, or rather native speaking for a foreign language menu,
wouldn't be that much of a stretch. If the menu was written in Italian for
example, we could use an Italian voice to render the speech. Right now, it
lets you choose Female, Male, or a fun Robot voice. We could easily add
other voices/languages.

Some of you already have my other apps, like AutoRingtone or Ringtones
Uncensored. Those provide custom Talking Caller ID using dozens of
text-to-speech voices. I also have Ringtones EURO, Asian Ringtones, Arabic
Ringtones and more. So it wouldn't be too hard to add more languages.
We'll add it to the list (Android, Point of Sale integration for
electronic ordering, etc.) and I'll report back on our priorities. It
probably will need to wait until our menu provider offers more coverage of
other countries.

The All Access app works worldwide and has access to over one million
menus. Understandably, most will be in the U.S., but give it a try and let
us know. Thanks!

Actually, I just tried it, substituting Australia for my location, and it
found a few restaurants, but most didn't have menus. Remember any
restaurant can add their menu for free, so you should reach out to your
favorite restaurants and let them know that they could earn more of your
business if they participated.

Thanks!

Fred,

Applebees is indeed in the master database, and I've found dozens of
locations, with menus. They are listed under American as well as
Steakhouse / Grill. Some locations also list them under Irish and Pub /
Brewery / Bar, but if you limit to American cuisine, you should find it.
Let me know what city you are in and I can verify. The feedback button in
the app is the best way to reach us directly.

One thing a lot of folks seem to be missing (which means we need to do a
better job) is that on the search results page there is a horizontal
scrolling bar at the bottom that lets you narrow by cuisine. We will
change that to be more user friendly in an update.

Thanks!

Re: Apple just approved All Access: Talking Menus & More

2013-05-29 Thread Todd Bernhard
Thank you everyone for the great, constructive feedback. We've learned a
lot and I wanted to give you an update. I just submitted an update to
Apple based on all the comments received so far!
>
>
First, I've built over 80 apps, for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Mac OS and
even Samsung Bada. This is the most complex one I've ever built. In
addition the emphasis on voiceover, the app is also meant for the Deaf,
Non-Verbal and Non-English-speaking audience, as it can speak the order to
the waitstaff, independently of voiceover. The app is accessing four
different servers from three different companies. One server, in
Switzerland, is for the logo scanning, one in Rochester, NY (soon to
migrate to Amazon's cloud servers) is our own with our internal database
with photos and premium customer info, another in Las Vegas is for the
text-to-speech hints (which you do not need if you are using voiceover) and
the last one, in San Francisco, is for the restaurant/business/menu
database. That service and server is provided by Locu.com.

That last one is where we have the following issues. First, thanks to the
popularity of the app, we went over their previously undisclosed limit of
1,000 requests per day, around 8am Pacific time. That is why some of you
saw the app crashing. Since that provider doesn't open until 9am, I had to
keep calling until they answered to get our limit raised. (I asked for
100,000!) It was raised and I've made an edit to the app (for the next
update) that will display a message instead of crashing if that ever
happens again!

Next, is the issue of no menus. That was probably because their server
offers info for more than just restaurants. For example, they have hair
salons, spas, etc. I'm changing the app to just show restaurants, by
default, and we may re-enable other businesses in a future update, but
because it was causing confusion, I don't think it should default to "all
businesses". That other info is valuable, but the confusion seems to be
the bigger problem.

Regarding stale data, I have noticed this and complained about it, too. I
think the provider's emphasis, understandably, is on growing their database
and there is less focus on pruning out old info. They are a startup, too,
and I can relate to prioritizing resources. But I think we will create a
button that lets you report old data and then we can blacklist it from the
app, even if it hasn't been removed from that provider's database. To be
honest, it's quite remarkable that they've built this menu system, without
requiring restaurants to do anything. They search for websites, and even
scan paper menus and have over one million such menus now. They have
signed deals with GoDaddy and Yelp so we're in good company. And they are
excited to be part of this accessible effort.

Re voiceover and accessibility. The specific feedback was great, and I
believe I've made all of the changes. I've used the app repeatedly in
voiceover mode and I think I've eliminated everything people were running
into. For the technically inclined, you might be interested to know that
there are at least 109 specific accessibility commands in the app source
code. The problem wasn't really the lack of voiceover commands but that we
were layering views on top of previous ones, and that meant in some views,
if there wasn't another accessible element displayed, the ones below it
would "peak through." That has been fixed.

I will change how you edit settings, like manual address versus GPS, as
this was confusing even to sighted folks!

Regarding finding the app, I sent the initial email shortly after Apple
notified us it was approved, and it takes some time for apps to show up,
especially worldwide. Nobody should have a problem finding it now, either
by searching for all access or search for blind menus or use this link:
http://bit.ly/AllAccessMenus

For a restaurant to be included in the app, or to update their existing
info, they can either contact us directly, which is preferred, or they can
contact Locu.com who is the menu database provider. There is no charge to
be listed and no charge to have a menu included. Both Locu and our firm,
All Access, offer premium features where we plan to earn revenue. Locu
charges restaurants to upload their own photos, whereas our focus is on
letting users upload their photos, via a scavenger hunt style contest, in
exchange for gift cards from the restaurant. We also charge for the Logo
Launcher scanning feature, and for the ability to add custom deals (like
groupons) and other custom buttons.

Lastly, the app is for more than menus. The app will provide a link to
directions via Apple Maps, twitter, facebook, weather, and more. Are there
other items you would like to have?

Thanks again, and please send feedback. It's probably easiest to use the
feedback button in the app. I'll let you know when the update is approved.
 I hope you'll give that v

Re: Apple just approved All Access: Talking Menus & More

2013-05-28 Thread Todd Bernhard
Richard and Fred,

I just changed my location, virtually, to Portland, Oregon and also
Portland, Maine and found lots of restaurants with menus.

In fact, almost 100% of the Portland, Oregon restaurants have menus. Here
are more than a dozen that show up on the first screen and they all have
menus.

Daily Grill, Park Bistro, Starbucks, Eurotrash, Ben & Jerry's, Veggie
Grill, Restaurant Service, Saint Cupcake, McDonalds, The Melting Pot, The
Morning Star Cafe, Little Big Burger,
Blitz Pearl, Seattle's Best Coffee, Higgins Restaurant & Bar, etc.

For Portland, Maine, it was probably 50% of the restaurants on the initial
screen that have menus. By providing info for all of the restaurants, you
at least get access to their website (which may have a menu), phone,
directions, twitter, etc. But the goal is to get every restaurant's menu
online.

Can you provide me, by email to t...@allaccessmenus.com the names of some
restaurants that don't have menus? Maybe there is a usability change we
need to make, so the menus show up better... because in many cases, they
are there. Over a million of them in fact. And if you find a restaurant
that doesn't have their menu in the app, we would love your help in asking
them to be included. It's free for the restaurants, too, to have their
menu in the database. This is really a community effort with little
downside. Our database provider can even 'scrape' their website to import
the menu!

Thanks!

Apple just approved All Access: Talking Menus & More

2013-05-28 Thread Todd Bernhard
Some of you have expressed interest in our latest venture, All Access: Talking
Menus & More.  Apple just approved it and you can get it, here, for free:
http://bit.ly/AllAccessMenus

The app is totally free and has access to over one million menus. It also
offers links to deals, twitter, phone, maps, weather and more.  There is also
our LogoLauncher feature which lets you scan a logo to bring up that brand's
menu and information!  I've tried to make extensive use of voiceover, although
the app also offers built-in text-to-speech if you turn Talking Hints on, in
the Settings.  It's also useful for deaf, hard of hearing, non-verbal and
non-english speaking users as it can speak the order for you, to the wait staff.
I'd love your feedback.  I've already submitted an update based on feedback.

Re: About OCR in restaurants or during shopping, was: Initial thoughts on Prizmo 2.

2013-05-16 Thread Todd Bernhard
Thanks for asking. The app will be FREE! And it does have menus from all
over the world, but most are in the U.S. It's free and relatively easy for
restaurants to add their menus, if they are not already in the system. The
only optional fees to the restaurant will be for the ability to add photos,
and more customization. But it's totally free for users.

Stay tuned to http://www.AllAccessMenus.com and I will post a notice when
it's approved.

2013-05-15 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi folks,

I am working on an app called All Access Menus that is designed
specifically for the blind, low vision, deaf, and hearing impaired
communities.

It features menus that speak to you, and for you. We have tens of
thousands of menus in the system so far, and growing. It knows where you
are and shows menus nearby. You can choose categories of food as well.

It is designed to use VoiceOver to provide a summary of the options, but
also has text-to-speech to give you hints, and if you cannot speak, it can
speak your order for you.

We should be rolling it out within a couple of weeks. I am doing a focus
group with the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, here in
Rochester, New York next week and hope to incorporate their feedback.

Watch for it at http://AllAccessMenus.com or contact me at

I have the Pebble, and the Martian Watch. I am sighted but I haven't found

However, the Martian Watch is definitely something to consider. It has a

One of the features will be a VoiceOver summary button, top center, that

Re: Voice Over friendly ring tone app

2013-03-15 Thread Todd Bernhard
If I may put in a plug for my own app, AutoRingtone.

It is voiceover friendly and let's you create talking ringtones using over
50 text-to-speech voices, including Siri, for talking caller ID. Whatever
you type can be spoken and the ringtones can be preceded by one of 200
sound effects. It's fun to create ringtones and both fun and useful when
someone calls as your phone can tell you, literally, who is calling or
speak whatever message you want it to.

Re: iOS 6 ringtone Bug

2013-02-05 Thread Todd Bernhard
This is often because you don't have the full phone number stored in your
address book, or you have the same number stored twice. Either way, the
iPhone gets confused.

So make sure you have (123) 456-7890 and not just 456-7890 stored.

One foolproof method is to delete the number from the particular contact,
then have them call you, and choose to 'Add to existing contact'

That way, the number will be stored exactly the way the cellular carrier
transmits it.

Re: Free ap for today: Ringtone Architect

2012-12-11 Thread Todd Bernhard
You might want to try my app, AutoRingtone. I've tried to make it accessible,
and several users here have said it works for them. It lets you create talking
ringtones for caller ID using 50 text to speech voices, including Siri, which I
call Appy. There are free versions, and pro is just $.99.

Re: Custom ring tones for specific contacts is working for me

2012-09-29 Thread Todd Bernhard
In fact, I created an app, AutoRingtone, for that which uses Text-to-Speech
to create custom Talking Caller ID ringtones for each contact in 40+ voices
including Siri. There are free versions and the PRO version is on sale for
just $0.99.

Re: Talking charger for Apple, microUSB and any USB device

2012-08-11 Thread Todd Bernhard
You want the PEAK model which was released this week. That's the one that
talks.

To the user who asked about recharges... It provides 6,000 mAh so you can do
the math to determine how many charges you can get for your mp3 player

Re: Talking charger for Apple, microUSB and any USB device

2012-08-10 Thread Todd Bernhard
Mary,

The Peak from myCharge.com is MUCH better than the PowerBank from Speed
Dots. Here are some of the reasons.

1) It charges an iPad. Most battery packs don't provide the 2.1 Amps
required.

2) The cables are built-in so you don't have to worry about remembering or
losing the adaptors. They have Apple 30 pin and micro USB, plus a USB port.

3) The device can recharge via USB or using the built-in 2-prong plug and a
regular wall outlet, which is faster and very convenient.

Most importantly, it talks and tells you battery status.

It is expensive at almost $100, but it's a premium product. There is a
cheaper version, with half the battery life, for $80.

Talking charger for Apple, microUSB and any USB device

2012-08-09 Thread Todd Bernhard
Hi folks,

I just wrote a review of a new portable battery pack / charger. It has built
in cables for Apple 30pin devices including the iPad, as well as a microUSB
cable and a USB port.

What sets it apart is that it talks and tells you what percent of the battery
is left. I thought it would be of interest here,

Re: iPhone and caller iD

2012-08-03 Thread Todd Bernhard
Feel free to try one of my free apps. Search for Ringtones Uncensored.
The PRO version has over 40 voices including Siri.

You can create talking ringtones that announce your name and a caller's
name, and optionally play a sound effect before the message.

You still have to create and assign the ringtones, but you have a lot more
options.

Re: Ring tones without using iTunes

2012-06-16 Thread Todd Bernhard
You might be referring to my app, Ringtones Uncensored. Just search
for that. There are free versions with a subset of the 40+ voices.
You can have ringtones that say anything you want in dozens of voices
with 200 intro sound effects to get your attention.

Yes, it's accessible. I've had several folks here give me feedback,
and I was just at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference this past
week and I met with their experts.

You still need to use iTunes to transfer files, but thanks to iCloud,
that can be much easier. You just open the ringtones in iTunes and
usually within minutes they show up on the phone.

Re: Ringtones

2012-05-17 Thread Todd Bernhard
Unfortunately, no. Apple requires that you install ringtones using
iTunes. This is frustrating for users but also for app developers
like myself when it comes to my AutoRingtone app.

Re: Ringtone Maker

2012-05-11 Thread Todd Bernhard
Quite a few users here use my AutoRingtone app. It lets you create
Talking Caller ID ringtones that announce who is calling. And it's
voiceover friendly. There are free versions with a subset of the
voices. Just search for autoringtone or ringtones uncensored, which
is good for text messages as it can speak anything you type.
