Subject: Recent strange behaviour with my Apple Watch Series 7.

Hello,

I have an Apple Watch Series 7 running watchOS Version 11.0 (22R5348a).

Recently it has been behaving rather oddly.

For no apparent reason the watch will bring up the power off screen, and double
tapping Cancel dismisses that screen only to reappear seconds later.

If I press the Digital Crown rather than bringing up the list of apps on the
watch it too brings up the power off screen.

Has anyone ever experienced such an issue and if so how did you resolve it?

I have reset the watch, restored from a backup and set it up as a new device
but periodically the issue described above will reoccur.

If it’s a hardware problem as I suspect it is than an upgrade later this month
may be my wisest choice.

The only time I see this message is when the digital crown is pressed for a
couple seconds. So, either you are running into a defect or the crown is being
accidentally pressed by a movement you are making.

This happened to my husband a couple of times and what the people on the
apple accessibility line told him to do was to press and hold both the side
bar button and the digital crown for a few seconds and it will reset. Let
them go and in around 30 seconds it will come back up and voice over should
work again. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone and a very happy New Year to you all.

For Christmas I was given an Apple Watch series 7. I couldn't wait to set
it up and I had no problem pairing it with my phone and getting it all
working. It has been working perfectly until today but this evening I have
encountered a problem.

About 2 hours ago I received a text from my sister, the notification of
which I read on my watch. I then retrieved my Bluetooth keyboard, turned it
on, and responded to a few texts using my phone. Having finished my texts
and turned the Bluetooth keyboard off I then returned to my watch but
unfortunately Voiceover isn't speaking at all. Not only is it not speaking
but I can't hear the clicks when flicking around the screen either although
I can feel some of the vibrations and haptics so the watch is obviously
working. I have been into the watch app. Voiceover is definitely turned on
and the volumes look OK. Having said that, some things do seem to have
changed by themselves. For example my screen curtain was on whereas it was
definitely turned off before. Does anyone know what the problem might be
and how I can get the watch talking again please?

Thank you for any help that might be forthcoming.

Andrew

Have you tried to do a threee-finger double tap on your watch to see if speech
got turned off? That works the same on the watch as it does on the phone.

Actually Sieghard, it wasn't the handwashing routine that started, it was the
fall detection and was getting ready to contact emergency services ... so I
stopped it. How silly would I have felt had the fire department and/or police

Hey Richard, then when it happens as you are tossing laundry into the dryer, I
hope you continue to toss until it has finished counting down!
Personally I find this a bit too gimmicky for me, I have washed my hands for
50+ years without a watch telling me how long to do so and even during COVID
times it just becomes second nature to do it properly. But that is me and I
certainly don't want to discourage anybody from using it if they find it useful.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific

they had and when she asked me why, I told her that I was looking for the

The little guy that lives in the watch can see what your doing ??.

Another answer, it is magic.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific
pattern. Likely it will get some false positives; like when it thought I
had fallen when I was tossing laundry into the dryer

Well I’m glad you like your Apple Watch. I like my Apple Watch first generation
and I will keep using it as long as the software is able to support the
hardware and until that day comes where it doesn’t then I will get the next one
but that will be a long time coming I’m sure. I just like it because it really
fits me my arms and wrists are kind of small so I like the flexibility of that
and the fact that I can use a Melanese loop with the series 5.

The little guy that lives in the watch can see what your doing ??.

Another answer, it is magic.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific
pattern. Likely it will get some false positives; like when it thought I
had fallen when I was tossing laundry into the dryer

Hello All,

Today, I purchased an Apple watch series 7, cellular. My previous watch
was the series 4 so this is kind of a big upgrade.

I was delighted that I was able to setup my series 7 from a backup of my
series 4. As a result, virtually all of my settings were transferred to
the
new watch.

So, I decided to give this new hand-washing timer a try. I have to admit,
it is kind of fun.

I have always considered myself to be a rather thorough hand washer but,
as
of my new purchase, I find that I need to work a little harder to get the
job done right (smile).

Anyway, the hand-washing detection / timer feature is most definitely my
first new favorite feature of Apple watch series 7.

What a wonderful tool to have onboard. Bravo, Apple.

2021-12-11 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Christopher, and Everyone:

First, Christopher, I completely agree with you. I think of the hand-washing
feature as far more than just a novelty as it has definitely improved my
hand-washing efforts. I like what you said about time seeming to slow down
during such uninteresting moments.

Be that as it may, some people will see the feature as little more than a
gimmick or proverbial hand-holding; that's okay, everyone is entitled to her
/his opinion, said opinion being equally valid as any other.

Second, I have truly enjoyed reading this thread. Richard, you made me laugh
out loud with your contribution, man! That was funny, thank you so much.

Third, when I was a little boy, I truly believed that the people that I saw on
television actually lived inside the TV set. I remember asking my mother why
she did not put food inside the TV to feed all those people who must get hungry
at night, after we turned the TV off. Ah! To be so young, eh (smile)?

Well, IMHO, I think it's a bit more of a toy and a bit more useful then just
for children. The beginning of the pandemic showed that people don't know that
you need to wash your hands for 20 to 30 seconds or what 20 to 30 seconds feels
like when you're just standing there doing something tedious like washing your
hands, where time is going to feel like it's slowing down. You can always
disable it if you don't need it, but there's no reason to make people feel like
a child for finding it to be a friendly reminder.

The hand washing feature is not an app. It is a setting that can be toggled
on/off within the settings on the watch. The watch detects that you are washing
your hands from the sound of the running water & automatically starts a
countdown timer. I found that having the feature turned on affected battery
life on my 6Se watch. Just rinsing dishes or filling a glass with water to
drink seemed to start the hand washing timer. I don't need a timer to tell me
when my hands are clean. I can make a mental note to countdown a specific
amount of time. Just my opinion about the feature. You & others may find it
useful. Is a great feature for a child to make sure that they are washing their
hands long enough.

Well, we can't get up, walk across the room and change the tv channel any more,
we can't get up and flip a light switch or turn on a fan, it only stands to
reason that we need to be told to wash our hands.

The little guy that lives in the watch can see what your doing ??.

Another answer, it is magic.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific
pattern. Likely it will get some false positives; like when it thought I
had fallen when I was tossing laundry into the dryer

Hey Kay. Go to settings on the watch and swipe through until you get to hand
washing. Double tap it. Swipe through and turn it on there. There is also an
option to have it give you a little nudge to remind you to wash your hands a
few minutes after you return home. Yes there is a little guy living in the
watch that is always looking out for you.

Cheers.

So, I need some input with this app. Usually, when you want to wash your
hands, they are dirty. Dirt from playing in the garden, food from mixing a
meatloaf and so on. Did you put the handwashing feature in one of your watch
faces? Or do you wander through your apps until you find it, and then at that
point what needs a bath more, you or your watch. I guess the point of this is,
What is the easiest way to find this app?

Subject: My First Favorite Feature of Apple Watch Series 7

Hello All,

Today, I purchased an Apple watch series 7, cellular. My previous watch
was the series 4 so this is kind of a big upgrade.

I was delighted that I was able to setup my series 7 from a backup of my
series 4. As a result, virtually all of my settings were transferred to the
new watch.

So, I decided to give this new hand-washing timer a try. I have to admit,
it is kind of fun.

I have always considered myself to be a rather thorough hand washer but, as
of my new purchase, I find that I need to work a little harder to get the
job done right (smile).

Anyway, the hand-washing detection / timer feature is most definitely my
first new favorite feature of Apple watch series 7.

What a wonderful tool to have onboard. Bravo, Apple.

Mark

The little guy that lives in the watch can see what your doing 😊.

Another answer, it is magic.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific
pattern. Likely it will get some false positives; like when it thought I had
fallen when I was tossing laundry into the dryer

My First Favorite Feature of Apple Watch Series 7

2021-12-10 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

RE: Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Terry, your band will fit, but one thing I don't understand is why you would
spend any money on upgrading from a series 5 to a series 6, if you have money
to burn and want the series 7 then OK, but even that in my opinion is not much
of an upgrade worth spending anything on. I expect the series 8 next year will
have much bigger improvements and I certainly won't upgrade my series 5 watch
for at least another year or two. Yes, it's everybody's choice, but here we
have all these expensive gadgets, iPhone, Apple Watch, maybe even an iPad
and/or a set of expensive Airpods and every couple of years we upgrade it all
or maybe you upgrade one or two things one year and the other thing or two the
next so each year you drop hundreds if not a Thousand or more on this tech
addiction.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think a series 6 or 7 watch can do over your
5?

Subject: Question about Apple watch, series 7

Hello everyone,

So I am wanting to upgrade my watch. I currently have a series 5. I am
interested in the series 6.

However, when I was looking on the Apple store, the series 7 seems
cheaper. I don't know why this is the case. But if this is accurate,
thththen I will likely upgrade to the series 7.

So here is my question.

Are the series 7 watches only 41 MM, or 45 MM cases?

I have a 40 MM case now, and I would like to stick with this, if at all
possible. Only, because I have the Melanese loop band.

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Both sizes in the series 7

The 41 mm replaces the 40mm and the 45mm replaces the 44mm

Due to the way they have the screen curveing over the edges of the watch I
believe

But really if you have the series 5,
Why do you at this point wish to change to the series 7?

There isn't really a lot of difference in them other than the 7 has the blood
oxygen meter,
Otherwise pretty much the screen is the only other difference,
The series 5 is only 2 years old,

And there is no series 6 available from what I can see on apples site any
longer,

My personal thought would be to hold off for another 12 months unless you have
a real urgent need to have the updated watch.

I've ordered one myself simply due to the dying battery in my series 4,

But even then it was still a choice between the SE and the series 7.

Good luck.
