Re: Moving apps to folders
Yep, that works very well. By the way, I learned about this through Jonathan's book while looking to solve someone else's issue. I like how all this works in iOS ten. RE: Moving apps to folders
I’m going to assume you are using iOS 10. Moving apps in iOS 10 Here is my summary of how it works. Touch the app you want to move. Flick up once and you should hear, Arrange apps. double tap. Then, do a two finger double tap and it should say something like choose a destination for the app. Now, use your normal method to get to where you want the app. If you are in a folder and want to move the app out of the folder, do the two finger scrub to close the folder without stopping the edit mode. If you want to move the app to a different page, just do the three finger swipe to get there. Touch where you want the app. Even if you want it in a folder, just touch the folder, don't open it. Flick up with 1 finger and you will hear options like, place after x app, or before x app, or put in x folder, whatever you want to do, just double tap with one finger and Wala, it is done. When you find an app you wish to create a folder with, flick up or down until you hear the option to create a folder with that app, and double tap. BTW, deleting apps is the same as always, once it says edit, double tap with one finger and you will get the option to delete it. Trouble moving apps into folders on my iPad
Hi All, I'm having a lot of trouble moving apps into folders on my Ipad. When I double tap and hold (a gesture that works like a charm on my iPhone), although the app under my finger does move, it seems rather random whether or not it will create a folder when placed on top of another app. Sometimes I will get a warning that a folder will be created as I move the app around the screen. However, I never get this message when I move to the app I want to create a folder with. I have even tried doing the same activity with a Bluetooth keyboard. I found some instructions on applevis, but I am still having no success. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance. Moving Apps inside folders using Bluetooth keyboard
Hi all, When using the touch screen, one of the biggest headaches I have using my iDevice is moving apps from one screen to another and moving apps into specific folders. Specifically, if I have multiple Home screens, I can't seem to stop at a desired Home screen since they move by so fast. Once I do find my desired Home screen, it is difficult to use my finger to place an app on a desired folder or on top of a desired app. I am now learning how to use the Amazon Basics keyboard in the hopes that it will take some of these headaches out of my iOS computing. Smile. I still plan on being primarily a touch screen user, but like I stated above, there are some things much easier to do using other methods--the external keyboard to be specific. Smile. I'm writing to ask if anyone has experienced lots of flakiness when using the Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard to move apps around or move then in or out of folders. Can someone confirm that it is a keyboard or iOS bug and not a bug with my specific keyboard? At times, when executing the VO+Shift+Letter M command, I don't get any notification that the app has been highlighted and ready to move. I swipe back and forth and the status remains the same. When I am successful and manage to generate the moving app prompt, I focus on the folder where I want to drop the app, and I get a beep but no confirmation as to what has just happened--ultimately the app is never moved. I've tried turning keyboard off then turning back on--no luck. I've tried turning off both iPod and keyboard--no luck. I've tried rebooting iDevice--no luck. For those interested in using an external Bluetooth keyboard to move apps, when lucky and all works as it should, here's what I'm doing to move my apps around: 1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is paired. Note: for whatever reason, my Amazon Basics keyboard takes about 25 seconds to be recognized by iDevice Bluetooth. (Shrug). 2. I use the touch screen to navigate to Home screen 3 and place focus on the app I want to move. 3. I press the following command on the keyboard: VO+Shift+letter M. I get the message informing me that I'm moving X app. 4. I use 3-finger gesture on the touch screen to move from Home screen 3 to Home screen 1. Note: sometimes this does not work, so I simply go to bottom of the screen and swipe up to move from page 3 to page 1, and this does seem to reliably do the job. 5. I move my app on top of the folder where I want to place the app, and I once again execute the following command: VO+Shift+letter M. 6. My iDevice and VoiceOver begin sounding off all kinds of bells and whistles while they do their thing, and when I no longer hear anything, I swipe to right a couple of times. 7. I press the Home button once on my iDevice to return screen back to normal. 8. I swipe over to the bottom of the list of apps, and sure enough the ape I moved is there. 9. I execute the scrub gesture to close the folder, and I'm eventually informed that the app count has increased, which once again assures me the app has been moved. 10. All done moving app. Smile. For those wanting to move an app from Home screen X to Home screen Y without accidentally creating an unwanted folder, try this... 1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is paired. 5. Since the keyboard will not allow for placing an app between two apps like the touch interface allows, I simply move my app on top of the app where I want to position the app, and I once again execute the following command: VO+Shift+letter M. 6. I'm told a new folder will be created with X title. 7. I simply press Escape key once on the keyboard to cancel the folder creation process. 8. I swipe to the right a couple of times then press the Home button once to return the focus back to normal. 9. I touch the bottom left-hand corner of the screen then swipe to the left to access the very last app on the current Home screen. 10. If all went well the app will have been moved from Home screen 3 to Home screen 1 without extraneous folders having been created. (thumbs up)! Hopefully someone out there will post a better, more reliable solution. Smile. Joseph the free tech guy! -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Then you can find the Square or the page you want to move it to and do a triple tap on that new location and the app would be dragged there instantly. When done properly moving files between pages or in and out of folders only takes about 3 seconds and is very easy. No computer is needed at all and would probably make things harder. Those of you new to IOS please keep in mind when someone posts their difficulties it is their difficulties and not necessarily problems you will encounter. I'm mentioning this because its usually the one's who have problems that are the most vocal, which gives newbie's a sense of a task being difficult since those who can complete X task obviously don't have complaints. I can't tell you how much time I've awasted in having to show others that Windows7 or Win8 features such as start menu are not difficult to learn or use. The problem is that they've read tons of email messages from people who struggle because these people don't read or try to solve problems for more than a couple of minutes. This mindset is then confirmed when a newbie has a problem with w7 as they conclude every post on the matter was correct, but this perceived problem is actually a problem that would happen in any Windows OS. It took me just a couple of days to learn the operating system on my iPod Touch, which is very similar to the iPhone, which means I will make an easy transition to the iPhone when the time comes. I simply read and experimented just like anyone new to any venture. I didn't join this list to bug others because I'm thinking of buying an IOS device but can't make up my mind or am worried about accessibility. There are 1400 people on this list, it is obvious IOS is accessible. I simply received the iPod Touch as a gift and after help with the initial setup and running a Google search for the manual, I was quickly on my way. I of course then found this list and the AppleVis website and learning curve over. Of course I may need help in the future, but I'm pretty confident I can figure out most things if someone else was able to do so too. The apple platform is used by children and by seniors, it is very simple due to it's consistent and predictable structure, and this is the case by intent. I guess my point is that anyone, absolutely anyone can master this thing and quite quickly regardless of level of vision, age, etc. LS Original Message - From: Rose Combs rosecom...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2013 1:58 PM Subject: RE: Moving apps into folders? Hi Raul and others It's actually 20 apps with the iPad. I like your idea about the triple tap to mark for moving and than another triple tap for dropping. Nice. Like you I don't have much trouble with the current situation however it is certainly a bit fiddly at times. Unlike others I don't usually go to the bother of moving things in and out of my doc just in order to move than from page to page. I think this has been made quite simple in the last few iterations of iOS. One helpful trick is to remember that you don't need to place your finger on the actual app to do the double tap and hold. So if yo have an app on page one and want to move it to page two, you can put your focus on the app than do the double tap and hole on the far left of the screen. This way you have plenty of space to move your finger to the left and thus move the app to the second screen. This said there's definitely a place for using the Doc when moving lots of apps around and or creating folders. Re: Moving apps into folders?
Re: Moving apps into folders?
Hi all, I was pleased to discover recently that actually I could simply go on moving apps and didn't need to press the home key, provided I listened to the prompts which VO gives me. I always used to press the home button after I had moved a program, just in case I lost it. Another thing I have found helpful, if I didn't want to move items from the dock, has been to ensure that there have been two or three free spaces on my home page. This has made moving programs onto my homepage much easier. I have then been able to rearrange them and eventually move the last one carefully interposition. Sometime ago someone did suggest that it was a good idea to free up one of the doc positions and place a folder there that you wish to move. This works well, especially if you want to move a program from say page 6 to the first page. Having said all this, it can sometimes still be difficult to get a program just where you want it! However, it's always a good thing to have something to play around with when you're on a bus or Are waiting to see the dentist! RE: Moving apps into folders?
It works, but I generally move one app out of the dock, let's say for example I go to page 6 where New Stand is generally located alone for me. I move music to that page, anywhere and leave the dock space 4 open. Then I go to pages where I want to move an app from, move it to the dock, then go to the page where I want it to be and move it out of the dock to either the folder or empty space. I have found that it works faster for me and I showed a sighted coworker how to do that by talking her through it and she thought it was great to get newsstand and weather which she would never use off her home screen. Eventually I go back to page six and move the music app bak into its normal doc space,, it is, for me easiest to use the doc 4 space for this activity, although I have also moves Safari away to another empty space and used the third space in the dock for moving apps around. The problem I had by putting all my navigation apps in one folder was that every screen except the home screen seemed to have missing or blank spaces and I was just too tired and frustrated to move every other app to let's say decrease my pages from 4 and a half to 3. It still takes time and of late I have not had patience with anything that takes hours instead of minutes to accomplish. Goes with the current territory of outside stressors. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Lauren Simmons Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 11:58 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Moving apps into folders? I too had this problem, but with a little patience I learned to quickly, easily, and reliably move my apps around on the current homepage and between homepages. Here's the secret. :) Let's say you want to move an app from HomePage#2 back to HOmepage#1. 1. While on HomePage #2, swipe until you locate the app you want to move. 2. Once you have located the app of interest, take your finger off of the app 3. from the right edge of your iPod touch or iPhone, double tap and hold on the screen. You will get the moving xApp prompt. Make sure you hear the name of the app you want to move. 4. with a sliding motion, move your index finger all the way to the left edge of the device's screen. Pause for a second. Do not, absolutely do not lift your finger off of the screen or allow your finger to slide off of the screen as this will kill the process. 5. While holding your finger on the left edge of the screen, you will eventually get the following prompt: Pause for page change. Make absolutely certain you hear Home, Page X of Y. If you hear anything else then you've made a mistake, so start all over from step 3 above. 6. When you complete this process successfully you will hear the page change prompt with a little beep tone and a mention of the current location of your app (e.g. Row 2 column 1). 7. Move your finger down towards bottom of the screen to the last row of apps. Finally, lift your finger to drop the app. Note: in this step, something happens on the screen where the location of apps on the screen is thrown off. As specified in this step, my solution has been to drop the app somewhere in last row so I don't destroy the structure of my HOmePage. I then make refinements as noted in step 9 below. 8. The following is kind of important. You now need to press the home button once to return homepage back to normal. This step will prevent you from accidentally deleting an app. 9. repeat steps 1 through step 3 to if you would like to further customize the location of the app you just moved to HomePage#1. Don't forget to press your home button a single time when you have finished moving any app. To move an app into a folder, it is a matter of moving the app around until you find the folder using a trial and error procedure until you hear the prompt On X folder. This prompt will be accompanied by a repetitive tone to catch your attention. Once you hear the prompt and tone, simply lift your finger and the app will be placed in the desired folder. You can repeat this process to move an app out of a folder; I simply listen for the triple tone then move my finger down about an inch to insure I'm moving outside the folder. Again, lift your finger to drop the app on to the HOmePage. Please let me know if this doesn't work, and I'll try to help. I just tested this procedure many times, and it has worked every single time. For me, its actually much easier to create many folders on my HomePage rather than moving between HOmePages. Most of the time I simply use Siri to launch my apps. I simply say the following: Launch light detector Launch App Store etc. LS On 4/11/13, Pete Nalda lpna...@gmail.com wrote: This is true even for those with some sight! I ran the following 2 minute Google search: how many apps can you put in a folder on the iPhone 4S This is the answer I received: Finding the single app you want to use on your iPhone 4S among apps spread out over 11 screens is a daunting task. But Apple felt your pain, and with iOS 4, the company introduced a handy organization tool called Folders. The Folders feature enables you to create folder icons, each holding up to a dozen apps. You can create folders for social apps, photography, travel, and any number of other categories: You can drag apps into and out of any folder as long as there’s room for them — you can have no more than 12 apps in a folder. But your iPhone can have as many as 180 folders, with a total of 2,160 apps. If you drag all the apps outside a folder, it automatically disappears. http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/organizing-your-iphone-4s-apps-with-folders.html LS On 4/9/13, Mary Ellen Sanchez sanchez.maryel...@gmail.com wrote: So how many apps can you put in a folder on the iPhone 4S is there an application that I could download that would allow for me to have more apps in a folder for the iPhone 4S Sent from my iPhone On Apr 9, 2013, at 8:47 PM, Andy Baracco w...@socal.rr.com wrote: I mispoke. Re: Moving apps into folders?
Hi, the limit is 12 apps per folder in an iPhone 4S and older. I believe that the limit is 16 apps per folder in an iPhone 5 or any iPad. If you want to bypass this limitation, you can jailbreak and get a tweak like Springtomize which has this feature. -- Raul A. Hi jordan, The folders are exactly aligned in the rows and columns. I find it much easier to move a folder next to an app I want to put in it then the other way around. I would simply double tap and hold the folder, then drag it straight right 2 beeps which means it's now in column 4 on row 2, then I drag it straight down 2 beeps. Now I look for the app to the left of the folder, I double tap and hold on it and drag it to the right just a bit until it says it's on the folder, then let go. Now I can drag the folder back to where I want it. This primarily is only a matter of practice and as long as you have good special awareness and are able to drag your finger straight across a row or straight up or down you'll get better at it. What will make it more unpredictable is if you have problems with the directions, e.g. you think you are dragging your finger straight across row 2, for example, but in fact you are dragging it across and down or across and up. A folder will hold twelve apps. Also, sometimes VO will simply tell you which row and column you're on, so be sure to note where the folder's coordinates are. VO will sound a series of tones when you're sitting on a folder. You can pause there until the folder opens. Sometimes moving an app over next to a folder as an intermediate step helps. Also, folders only hold a certain amount of apps and once a folder is full, you can't move an app into it. You don't get a message to that fact; the move just won't take. On 04/09/2013 12:56 PM, Jordan Norregaard wrote: First, I must thank the many people who responded to my earlier questions! I download MiniKeePass, and find it useful! I do have one question about placing apps in folders. I do understand the concept of how to move apps, and how to move apps into folders! But, is there some trick to getting an app into a folder? I face the most difficulty when the folder sits on row 2, column 4, and the app simply refuses to land on the folder. Does the folder sit slightly up/down/left/right of the direct row/column? I'm sort of confused as to where folders sit in relation to the screen. The movements are so very slight...please help?
