Mark, you were half way there. You did a double tap and hold which is what you should do. The second part of that is lift up your fingers up and just double tap the app or apps you want to remove from the switcher. Re: App Switcher confusion
Hi, As I understand it, some apps are allowed to run as long as they like when you close them but leave them in the app switcher, such as GPS apps or apps that are playing music. If an app is downloading something, I believe it gets 15 minutes to finish and is then supposed to be closed. All other apps are supposed to be closed when you press Home, and they aren't supposed to take up memory and battery. However, I have had many times when emptying the App switcher makes something run better, so it frees up memory. And there have ben times when my battery life was dropping more quickly than usual, and emptying the App switcher helped. So while I wouldn't say you need to keep it empty all the time, if you're noticing a problem with battery or memory, my first suggestion would be to empty the App switcher. Also, the app switcher does not show the app you're currently using. For instance, if you are in Mail and invoke App switcher, Mail will not be shown. The apps in app switcher are not entirely functional. Sometimes when you unload an app there are remnants of it in the memory, which is why it's a good idea to clear it out once in awhile. Re: App Switcher confusion
First you double tap an app in the app switcher and hold. You'll hear it say, editing apps. Each app you double tap will then disappear from the app switcher. If you see it app in there you want to launch, simply press the home button. This will put the app switcher back into normal mode, So when you double tap an app, it will open. So, you don't have to exit the app switcher and go back in again to launch an app that is already in there. -- Marcy weinberg Junior Partner Fedora Outlier, LLC Top down, BETTER THAN EXCELLENT ™ consulting, teaching and support http://www.fedoraoutlier.com 888-958-6979 ext.3801 ma...@fedoraoutlier.com On Jan 26, 2013, at 9:57 AM, Kimberly kimbersinbox1...@gmail.com wrote: After it says editing app and you hear the sound you have to double tap to get rid of whatever app it's editing. if you do that, then go back into the app switcher you will see that the app is now out of there. Re: App Switcher confusion
Okay, so let's say I dismiss all my apps from App Switcher. That means they're all shut down? But, things that don't seem to take up much resources like FaceBook, Twitter, Skype, the AIM client, … They can just stay waiting for Push notifications, and will be in the app switcher. Here's an interesting thing: There's a four-fingered swipe gesture that switches you to the next app in the queue. However, sometimes, when I did that swipe, I heard the cutest little child-like voice saying what I thought was app Switcher, or maybe I was just hallucinating. How does one refine this four-fingered swipe to rapidly switch applications? Re: App Switcher confusion
Hi, Mark, In the app switcher you have four apps per page. They're in a row at the bottom, kind of in the same position as the dock. Those are the four most recent apps. To get to earlier ones, do a three-finger swipe to the next page, which I think by default is a three-fingered swipe to the left. Once you find an app you want, just double-tap on it. To remove apps, double-tap and hold any app. At this point, you're in an edit mode. When you double-tap an app, instead of opening, it is deleted. Do this for any apps you want to delete. Then press the home button to exit the edit mode. The high-pitched voice may be a system voice of some sort. Just remember that you only have to do the three-finger swipe if you want to find apps that have been opened before your four most recent apps have been used. Re: App Switcher confusion
Hi, Teresa. Thanks for the tips on the App Switcher; think I got a handle on it, as in earlier posts. No, this is a four-finger swipe to the left or right from within an app itself. If you do it right, it'll say Switching to, and then whatever the next or previous app in your queue is. If you do it wrong, it gives you a kind of high whimpering noise which I find rather amusing. A three-fingered flick doesn't do this. Quite handy to switch back and forth between my messenger clients. Re: App Switcher confusion
What I mean, is that when you're editing apps, if you want to open one of them instead of deleting it from the app switcher, Just press the home button one time. You will still be in the app switcher, And can double tap any app to open it With out having to exit the app switcher. -- Marcy weinberg Junior Partner Fedora Outlier, LLC Top down, BETTER THAN EXCELLENT ™ consulting, teaching and support http://www.fedoraoutlier.com 888-958-6979 ext.3801 ma...@fedoraoutlier.com On Jan 26, 2013, at 11:56 AM, Mark BurningHawk stone_tr...@sbcglobal.net wrote: Hi, Marcy. I get the double tap to shut an app down, I'm not sure what you mean by the rest; if I see an app in Switcher I want to launch, I'll just split tap or double tap on it, not edit it. Otherwise, I have to find it on the the home screen or switch to it with the four-fingered swipe.
