MessageI went to rename an app this morning, that I was able to do before. Now it not only renamed the app I was working with, but another app in the same folder, plus the folder name also changed. I fixed that. When I attempted to rename the app once again, it would not rename no matter what I tried. Well, I've tried everything from using dictation to rebooting my phone and nothing works for labeling icons. Evidently this isn't happening to everyone but enough people that this is certainly an issue with the new update. RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
I did the two finger tap and hold. The dialog box came up. I tried typing in the label, and using dictate. I also tried the save button above the keyboard, and the done button in the lower right of the screen. Originally, it didn't work, but then I got one to work, but the other two buttons didn't re-label. ItI have them all labeled now, but it took about 10 attempts to label 3 buttons. Where I was having the problem, is when I was finished, it still just said button. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2012 3:24 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons. Re: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
Hello everyone, Yesterday I was incorrect about the lableing buttons jesture. So I did it, but I had to lable the buttons a number of times on the Bank of America app and still after having been labled twice and then when I come back into the app later the 2nd one is not labled. For example I hear when I swipe the buttons at the top: BillPay Button, Button, Deposits Button. So the 2nd button (only states Button). Instead of transfers button. This was labled twice and somehow it forgets it was labled. Guess I need to write to AppleAccessibility. I had this happen once when I downloaded the One Touch Camera app, after downloading Voiceover read it as “Camera” just like the iOS Camera app. I renamed it One Touch Camera and the stock ap also had that label. I was rather surprised by that since I assume they use a different icon graphic, in any case, Apple should not allow apps in the app store which have stupid descriptions. The Bank of Montreal app, for example, is simply read as “Banking”. Try to rename it again and do it about 3 or 4 times if it doesn’t take because when I renamed the stock camera app from One Touch Camera back to Camera it only worked after the third attempt. I went to rename an app this morning, that I was able to do before. Now it not only renamed the app I was working with, but another app in the same folder, plus the folder name also changed. I fixed that. When I attempted to rename the app once again, it would not rename no matter what I tried. Hi David, I upgraded via iTunes and I have rebooted my phone several times since, emptied the app switcher and I have now realized that the custom labeling does seem to be problematic in some situations. I was, for example, not able to label the “Previous”, Play/Pause” and “Next” buttons in the Sonos multi-room music app. The custom label dialogue comes up, I can delete the existing label which is just a few weird greater than and vertical bar synbols and type in Play/Pause, but when I save it it has no effect. I tried it about 6 times since in some other cases the labels did finally take effect after a second or third attempt. Since at least 3 or 4 other people have had problems with this I must assume that this is not coincidence especially since I was able to label these buttons in the Sonos app without any problems before. Ok. I had labeled my unlabeled buttons in the BOFA app now after updating they are no longer labeled. So, correct me if I'm wrong, it was a single finger double tap and hold to label the buttons. Re: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
Hello, if he is having the same issues that I am having the dialog comes up after you perform the gesture, you change the label or add an label, you press save and then the label doesn't change. And then in apps like Fleksy you do the gesture and the dialog makes the sound of popping up but never shows up… there isn't any consistency of when it wants to work, I still can't get it to label a button. I have reset the os and I am still having the issue. I can't figure this one out. RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
Tom and others, If it doesn't take the first time, just do it 2 or 3 or even 4 more times, sometimes I have labeled items and it didn't take or if it did it changed back later. I think it's because for some reason the button graphics changes and then the label is not applied, I found if I do it often enough it sticks. One example where it was the other way around was with the One Touch Camera, One Touch Voice Memo and One Touch Video apps. When I first installed them their icons just read Camera, Voice Memo and Video just like the iPhone stock apps. So I thought this is an easy fix and I relabeled them except that then suddenly my stock Camera app and Voice Memo app were also called One Touch Camera and One Touch Voice Memo. I subsequently deleted the One Touch apps since I found I wasn't really using them and after I upgraded yesterday suddenly my stock apps were once again labeled One Touch Camera and One Touch Voice Memo. I brought up the custom labeler and deleted the One Touch part, tapped save and once again it was still read as One Touch Camera. So I did it again and then again and finally after I think the third time or maybe even the fourth the change took and now it's back to just Camera and Voice Memos. RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
Hi, I have had this happen before when I tried to custom label an app when I was in the app switcher, you heard the sound but the dialogue would only become visible after you went back out of the app switcher. I just tried this in Fleksy, only had my own email in there as a Favourite and I had to basically bring up the custom label dialogue, then because it was not visible I tapped on my email address and the mail app opened, at the same time the custom label dialogue gained focus. I relabeled my email address with just my first name, then saved it. I then dismissed the email and went back to Fleksy. First time I did this the label didn’t work, I then did it a second time and after I went back to Fleksy it now had just my first name instead of the entire email address which means the labeling worked. I then tried to custom label the Play/Pause button in the Sonos app which I used to be able to do, but this time around this one just did not take, I probably repeated it 6 times, but it does not work so yes, there definitely seems to be some issues with this and I will add my voice to this by sending an email to accessibil...@apple.com. In the meantime I don’t think I’ll contribute any more to the thread unless I have anything new to add. The short of it is that sometimes applying a custom label repeatedly will work, but in some cases the labels will not work so Apple needs to look at this. Let’s all let them know, move on and revisit this later hopefully after an update when maybe something has been done about it. At least it appears to work in some cases, but maybe this will be the next big and inconvenient bug in iOS 6 which won’t get fixed until iOS 7, let’s hope not, but who knows. RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
I don't believe that is it due to the fact that I've tried several different icons and all resulted in the same failure and before I upgraded I had no issues at all labeling any icon. Also it sounds like there are several people reporting the same issues which is to much of a coincidence. It works with both my bluetooth braille keyboard and the onscreen keyboard. Re: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
I encourage everyone who is having this problem to reboot your iOS device by fully shutting down and then restarting it. Upgrading can cause memory artefacts which will clear when you fully restart the device. For me, the problems were: screen curtain not functioning even though it said it was, and two-finger double-tap did not work to end a call. RE: IOS 6 and labeling buttons.
Hi David, I upgraded via iTunes and I have rebooted my phone several times since, emptied the app switcher and I have now realized that the custom labeling does seem to be problematic in some situations. I was, for example, not able to label the Previous, Play/Pause and Next buttons in the Sonos multi-room music app.
