I like them, too, but they're not implemented in iOS very well anymore. They're used for navigation instead of scrolling. I'm used to it now, but was disa ppointed about the change in the beginning. I'm one of those apparent few who do like the wiz wheels. It seems natural for me to just turn one a click when reading and wanting to read either the rest of the current line or the beginning of the next. It's just a nice way to scroll down a page. I thought this way too, until my Focus14 Blue decided to go-slow and then quit working. The Focus40 Bluue classic is far more robust (but heavier) than the Focus14. I switch back and forth from 8-dot braille to 6-dot contracted. I am so happy now that you can adjust these separately for input and output, as I was constantly doing a G-chord by mistake when typing a message, typing in grade 2 braille before realizing I was not in that mode, and having to backtrack and delete and retype. I always switch to 8-dot input when inputting an e-mail address, Web address, or username and password. I find it works a lot better honestly. I am writing in the hope that someone will post a capsule synopsis of the pros and cons of using the Focus 40 with an IOS device. I seem to recall reading that other braille displays support more of the IOS command set than the Focus, I hope to learn its strengths and its weaknesses. Is it a Focus 40?, or is it a Focus 40 Blue. If it is a Focus 40, you cannot pair it with an iPhone, because it does not have Bluetooth connectivity. If it is a Focus 40 Blue, you set the iPhone to search for Bluetooth devices after turning the braille display on without it being connected to house current. When the device is found, you enter the 4-digit code supplied with the braille display. That should be found in the user's manual, as well as the instructions on how to pair it with your phone. --- Be positive! Well it actually depends on the display, my 40 was bought in 2006 and has no Bluetooth connectivity just USB, it is never going to work with an iPhone. You may find that eight-dot braille input - select with one or two presses of the 236-chord - will give you more flexibility with braile entry. Also, with VoiceOver Help on, pressing keys and chords on the Focus40 will tell you what they will do. That is a web page with a table on it, I believe. If you pasted the text into a text editor, it may have fouled things up. Try it using yh device. that the whiz wheels don't have the functionality you might expect. The left
one moves by increment in the rotor, and the right one does the equivalent of a
Voiceover right swipe with one finger. The reverse commands naturally do the

I'm having trouble with mine. I think the main problem is that I don't know what the heck I'm doing with it at the moment. Trying to send an Email to myself as a test, when typing my Email address in the "to" field, I get gibberish, so I delete it using the onscreen keyboard. Also figuring out how to delete from within the inbox. I think that what I need is a list of commands for the braille display when using firmware 8.1.2 on an iPhone 5. The firmware of the braille display is 4.57 if that matters. Any thoughts on where to get such a list are appreciated. Thanks. --- Be positive!
