Hi,

I know this doesn’t really answer your question but, why not just have your
device backed up to iCloud? In my opinion, its so much easier, and convenient
than backing up on your computer. You don’t even have to do anything. If on
Wifi, it will perform a backup every time you charge your device.

2013-09-15 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

I guess it depends. In raw speed/transfer rate I guess. But, I think this is
kind of trivial because an iCloud backup for me only takes less than 2
minutes on average. And since it can be set to do it automatically when
charging, the convenience factor goes way up. Just set and forget. Plus, I
don’t have to actually be near my computer, plug it in, and launch iTunes.

RE: are you able to have itunes backup your apps on more then one pc?

2013-09-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ricardo,

You can't really compare doing a sync via WiFi and an icloud backup since
iTunes WiFi sync is just that, a sync whereas an iTunes backup is a backup.

I also agree that both the iCloud backup and iTunes backup, especially the
encrypted backup, have their purpose. If I really have to do a restore and I
am at home or have my laptop along, then I much prefer to restore from my
encrypted backup since I backs up all passwords as well. A lot of times I
charge my iPhone by connecting it to my laptop in which case it's already
connected to iTunes, all I have to do is open the application, go to my
Device, tab to Encript Backup, enter my password and about 15 or 20 seconds
later it's done. To me this is easy and far from inconvenient and well worth
the effort should something go wrong and I have to restore.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: are you able to have itunes backup your apps on more then one pc?

2013-09-15 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi Sieghard,

If restoring from iCloud, all your passwords are restored as well. I mentioned
iTunes wireless sync because, although yes, its syncing, a part of the sync
process is backing up to iTunes. So I figured some might go this route just to
wirelessly back up their device. But, it really boils down to how often your
device is connected to your computer really. My iPhone and iPad are never
connected since I have iTunes match so have no need to sync media via iTunes.
And since iCloud backup can be done using cellular data, I can do it almost
anywhere on the planet, and restore using it too. haha. I do save a backup to
my Mac every so often, maybe once every 2 or 3 months just for safeties sake..

 Sieghard

 Hi,

Oh! just to add, iTunes wireless sync via wifi is much slower than an iCloud
backup for me using wifi or cellular data.

I've also noticed using iTunes wireless syncing my devices take a noticeable
 hit in batterylife.

 Hi,

I know this doesn't really answer your question but, why not just have

2013-09-15 Thread Regina Alvarado
Ricardo, I will be receiving an iPad this week and of course will be upgrading
at least on my phone to IOS-7. How do I set up the Cloud to put all my apps,
settings, etc. back where they should be? HOW do I back up totally to the
cloud? Do I ask it to backup everything or is it safer to use iTunes? I hope I
am making sense. Also, how do I put my ipad on the cloud?

Re: are you able to have itunes backup your apps on more then one pc?

2013-09-15 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Its pretty simple. The first thing you want to do is on your phone go to
settings/iCloud. Now double tap the storage and backup button. On the next
screen, there will be a checkbox to turn iCloud on. What this does is allow
your device to be backed up automatically when connected to wifi, and plugged
in. Under that will be a backup now button. You use this if you want to back
up your device manually. The Backup will save your settings. It doesn’t
actually back up your apps though, just your app information. So when you
restore from the backup, the apps will be redownloaded and placed in the same
folders and positions you have on your homescreen.

So in short, you don’t have to do anything special.

Re: are you able to have itunes backup your apps on more then one pc?

2013-09-15 Thread Arianna
The one reason that I don't use iCloud to backup my iPhone is that I have apps
on my phone which are no longer in the App Store. And since I cloud checks the
app store and gets the latest version of an app, I think I'll lose apps which
are no longer in the app store. Also, there are apps that I have which I wish
to keep at a certain version.

Thanks,
Ari
