Re: answering a call
I actually made my double tap time faster not slower. I had no problems when double tapping when using my iPhone screen. Of course, I mostly use my Hable One with my phone, not the screen, but when I do use the screen on my iPhone 13 pro max, I have no issues double tapping and it working correctly. This setting was set to 2.5 seconds with the ios17.1 update or the ios17 version. I'm not certain which one, but a lot of the users changed that setting. I changed mine to 3.5 seconds and have had no problems since. Dave On 12/10/2023 3:54 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: Can you be more specific? RE: answering a call
Can you be more specific? How do you answer your call, do you use a 2-finger double tap (magic tap) or do you find and tap the "Answer" button? I have an iPhone 13 Pro and both methods work for me. If you are on iOS 17.1 or 17.2 have you increased the double tap response time a little? This really made a difference for me with the issue where a double tap was simply registered as a single tap meaning you try to double tap say a home screen icon to open an app but instead you would simply put focus elsewhere on the screen. This is in Settings > Accessibility > Voiceover > Double Tap Time Out. I believe the default is 0.3 seconds and I changed it to 0.5 seconds on the recommendation of somebody else (sorry, forgot who it was). -Original Message- From: 'Linda C. I believe with the sighted folks to answer an incoming call, it's a single finger single tap on the answer button. Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2014! Re: Answering a call on a iPhone 5
Hi, I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I'll offer this suggestion anyway. My phone is in an Otterbox Defender case, which makes things a bit easier perhaps. Anyway, when a call comes in, I immediately put my right index finger at or very near the lower righthand corner of the screen, where I'll typically hear VoiceOver say slide to answer. I hold my index finger there and do a split-tap. If you're unfamiliar with the split-tap, you locate the item in question, hold your finger there and tap elsewhere, anywhere on the screen. This works better than 90 percent of the time for me. The double-tap, especially when I'm walking around or doing something else when the call comes in, seems to offer me much better control. Hope this helps. Tom - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 10:13 PM Subject: RE: Answering a call on a iPhone 5 Hi Gena, I would suggest you ask somebody to call you. Use the earpods that came with your iPhone and press the middle button (the slightly resessed area) to answer the call and see if that works. If you can talk to the person and the call does not hang up you at least know your phone works fine. If you have a landline you can call yourself or, if not, maybe you can ask a friend to call you and then practice answering without the earpods. You can answer either by doing a 2-finger double tap anywhere on the screen when your phone is ringing or you can put your finger on the home key, then slide it up a bit until you find the answer button and double tap with one finger. It's all just practice. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Hello All, Sorry, a bit behind with my mail. No that's it, Any slightest touch of the screen when the phone is locked ends the call. When it's in my hand-bag or pocket I can't avoid touching the screen. If the phone isn't locked, I can swipe as much as I like between the decline and answer buttons to make my selection. RE: Answering a call on a iPhone 5
Hi Gena, I would suggest you take this phone back to Apple since this sounds like a major defect. For one thing, if the screen is really locked you should be able to touch it all day long without any sort of reaction from the phone, after all, locked is locked and you lock it to prevent it from doing anything. Even if Voiceover is off touching the screen when the phone is locked won't do anything until you press either the home or power button. A single press will bring up the Slide to unlock control and the camera button at the bottom right of the screen, a double press of the home key will also bring up playback controls, Previous, Play/Pause and Next as well as the Airplay button if you are in range of an airplay device and the volume control. Two finger double tap answers and ends phone calls. You can practice the gesture in the practice area - settings, general, accessibility, voice-over, practice area. This is how I always answer my iPhone. Oh, do not press the power button whilstill the iPhone is ringing. Pressing power button automatically sends the call to voice mail. RE: Answering a call on a iPhone 5
Hi Gena, I would suggest you ask somebody to call you. The choices are slightly different depending on whether your phone is locked when the call comes in or whether you are doing something and it’s unlocked. Keep in mind that you can press either the volume up or down key when it is ringing and this will mute the ringer which of course makes it a lot easier to hear Voiceover. If you hear the caller Id and decide you don’t want to take the call you can press the Power button twice quickly and that will decline the call and send it to Voicemail. OK, so here is what I do when the phone is locked: As soon as the phone rings you only have 3 things on the screen: The caller’s identity, either their name if they are in your contacts or the phone number. A large “Slide to answer” control This si super easy to find as it takes up the entire bottom area above the home key exactly like the “Slide to Unlock” control. You can just put your finger on the home key, then slide up a bit and you will hear “Slide to Answer”, now double tap anywhere and the call is answered. If you want to hear the caller’s identity again, do the same and when you hear “Slide to Answer” just do a quick single finger flick left and Voiceover reads the caller’s identity/phone number. Do a single finger flick right and you are on the “Call Options” button which I explain next. Third and this is new in iOS 6 is the “Call Options” button. If you double tap it you get a new screen with the following 6 items from top to bottom: 1. Caller’s identity 2. Decline button 3. Answer button 4. Call Options button (this will hide that screen again if you tap it) 5. The “When I leave” would most likely refer to wherever you are currently and the geofence would bbe set up based on your current GPS location. The “In 1 hour” reminder is of course a simple time based reminder, the others are location based reminders and you want to keep this in mind because as soon as you set up a location based reminder your phone constantly monitors your location and this will use more battery.
