Palm desktop on Leopard
I have been using Palm Desktop on OSX 3 and 4 for years with no problems. But today, (using Leopard) I have lost a lot of info. Luckily had a backup. Probably Palm is not suited to Leopard. Is there another program that would keep records of over 1000 clients' details. Preferably one that would allow import from PalmDesktop. Palm experts into a Text file but it all looks pretty jumbled to me. HI Lloyd, If you can output the contact details from Palm as a text-delimited file, almost anything else can import it in. Seeya Rod! Re: Telstra and iPhone
Hi... Like Apple, Telstra are unlikely to comment on future plans that are important to their business, and they're unlikely to let their frontline helpdesk people do it either. Amongst other things they have to work out how to support visual voicemail and what they're doing about the fact that they already have a music store that's not compatible with the iPhone :). Why rush an announcement when they can watch the Optus/Vodafone feeding frenzy whilst they both try to establish their pricing structure? Then they can price theirs accordingly. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=991785 I'm sure you'll be able to get an iPhone on Telstra (yes, they know what they are) Probably the longer you wait the better plan you'll be able to get! Powerpoint not recognising fonts
Hi Guys, I have MS Office 2008 installed on my work MBP but am having some weird issues with fonts. We use VAGRounded for all our corporate communications and as such I need to be able to use it in all Office apps. I seem to have no problems in Word or Excel with it (shows up fine, bolds and italicises fine, etc.) but Powerpoint is not recognising it at all. It shows up in the list, but when I try to select it, it substitutes Arial (obviously a bad thing!). Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have tried deleting the font cache so that it gets recreated, but that hasn't made a difference. I need to do a presentation today so I am trying to fix this one ASAP! MacBooks for Teachers WA
Hello People, I am asking for advice from the Teachers on our Mailing List. After years trying to convince my Son-n-Law ( Assoc. Principal of a WA High School) to 'Get A Mac', I had succeeded. He is due for a new Laptop and I had persuaded him to get a MacBook. The MacBook comes with Leopard preloaded /iLife08 etc. That was until ... the DET telling him he will have all sorts of troubles trying to access the Departments Servers his School Network. Below is an excerpt taken from the DET Website: http://www.det.wa.edu.au/education/ict/notebooks/17round.asp Network Connectivity and Notebook Make/Compatibility Issues: Schools may choose to support adding machines of either make to their Administration and Curriculum networks, but should be aware of technical and resourcing requirements for this. Central support is not provided for connection of Apple notebooks to school networks, also, some Departmental applications such as SIS are not available for the Apple platform at present. Is there a way that he can access the DET Network Departmental applications such as SIS using a Mac please? He does want a Mac, he was originally Mac only went to PC's because of teaching. He is the person responsible for getting me interested in Macintosh computers a few years ago. So we need to get him back on The Right Side ... Any comments and help would be greatly appreciated. Apple iPhone
Hi Everyone, I noted a few questions on the iPhone and would like to answer some. For those that don't know, we've been an Apple Store (AppleCentre up until last year) since 2004. Because we're regional, we also have been a Vodafone dealer since 2004 (multiple revenue streams!!). So we have the lucky distinction of being able to provide the iPhone to our Apple customers, and we understand the Vodafone contracts and prepaid systems. Hopefully that will mean we will get through activations quickly! So (Sales Plug coming!!!) - if you want to reserve an iPhone - please let us know. We have a store in Albany and an office in Bunbury so we can personally cover the South of WA. For customers we have in Perth (including WAMUGgers), we may look at travelling up to Perth and organising a delivery point depending on numbers. Firstly - Pricing. We are still waiting on plans. The iPhone will be available as a prepaid phone as well. Generally, prepaid phones are priced at a subsidy and therefore are locked so the carrier can generate revenue from airtime. All carriers have unlocking fees but I don't know if they'll do it for iPhone. The US pricing is only an indication. I wouldn't hang my hat on it (ie MacBook Air!). Hopefully we'll have something today. For Mike - you 'should' be able to use your iPhone overseas for most of its features. It will depend on the carrier in the country you are in. You'll have to make sure you activate global roaming with whichever carrier you choose as well. Edward - I would suggest if you are based here and travelling overseas, don't buy the iphone in the US. You will probably come up against locking and carrier issues. Same as for Mike, if you buy and activate here, then you can roam to whichever countries the carrier supports. For instance, Vodafone have roaming contracts with hundreds of networks in 120 countries. It can also depend on whether you go contract or prepay. Check the Optus and Vodafone web sites and search for 'roaming'. Vodafone cover all your destinations except Bulgaria at first look. I think that eventually Telstra will sell or support the iPhone. Whether they will have better/cheaper plans or not is another thing. It is a competitive market so you can wait for a while to see what happens if you choose. Just like with any mobile phone plan, check the small print. You might think you're getting a good deal but the disgruntled customers we see (leaving other carriers) are usually annoyed at what isn't in the plan. Also important to note (for regional areas) that both Optus and Vodafone are rolling out 3G networks throughout 2008 with a goal of providing coverage across a majority of Australia. I don't think it will be quite as extensive as NextG (I think 94% as opposed to 98%), but it will cover most areas. Info is available on the 'net. Anyway, hope that lot isn't too much of an imposition. Feel free to ask any questions. I can recommend Vodafone even if you want to purchase in whatever location you are. If not Vodafone, Optus are a better option than most of the other carriers (imho) if you choose to go that way (not that you have a choice at the moment!). :-) Cheers, Stuart Stuart Evans T4 Technology Shop 6, 69 Lockyer Avenue Albany WA 6330 Ph 08 9842 9660 Fx 08 9842 9664 Em [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re Macs in Schools
Hi Ronni I am happy to help him where I can. I am at Balcatta SHS. We are 90% Windoze and of course run in a Windoze server environment. I have always used a mac at school (since about 1990) and along with a steadily growing number of staff will continue to do so. Because we run SIS under a Terminal Server I can access SIS very easily via Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection. I have no trouble using SIS. I THINK that if SIS is not running under Terminal Server that it may be more difficult on the Mac side. SIS reporting from home is via a web interface - so no problems there. DET now runs webmail via a web interface so no problems there. (Microsoft Exchange client for mac used to work well when we were on Excange Mail. There should be no problem connecting to his school network and seeing the servers. One of the keys is - how cooperative is the School Network Nazi er Administrator? If he is friendly then no problems. Mine is great! I would assume as a deputy he will have a Windoze machine on his desk already. Getting a mac will complement that. Happy to talk to him.

Re: Re Macs in Schools
Hi Rod, Many thanks for your offer to help my Son-n-Law, I really appreciate it. If you are happy for me to pass on your email to him I will do so, then he could contact you privately if/when he needs more information. I think he is on good terms with his School Network ?? Administrator ;-) Thanks again. Cheers, Ronni On 13/06/2008, at 12:26 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Ronni I am happy to help him where I can. I am at Balcatta SHS. Re: Apple iPhone
Hi Stuart ! I wonder whether you can comment on the existing Optus network ? I read an extensive article yesterday which seems to be lost today , that says a lot of the existing optus network is in the 900 MHz band ... ... and not compatible with the iPhone which apparently can access the 850Mhz band and a 2700Mhz band Cheers Bob Also does Vodafone operate in the frequency ranges that the iPhone can work in ?
