Hi Justin, I'm sure the problem is the other end, not your end. For interest sake ... for my benefit ;-), would you check the problem email is MIME Content-Type: text/plain with a charset=ISO-8859-1? i.e. view the problem message via option-command-u for 'raw source' to show the charset. Hi Ronni Thanks for your thoughts - but it's the Flash authoring programme, not the flash player, and I have reinstalled it, but don't remember repairing permissions so I'll try it again many thanks alastair On 26 Nov 2009, at 07:48, Ronda Brown wrote: On 26/11/2009, at 3:31 PM, mince and pud wrote: In case it's of interest.. Much more recently I was trying to stop Flash from quitting all the time and I read that bad memory could cause this, so I removed the last-added stick of ram (a cast-off from upgrading my wife's iMac that should have been compatible). It didn't help the Flash problem but the sleep issues have entirely gone away. We live and learn (except about the Flash thing) Hi Alastair, Yep, bad Ram can cause all sorts of problems. With your Flash Player problem, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest release flash player and then repair permissions. Download the Flash Player 10 package. http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi? P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash (You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS). It is suggested that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one)! http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157 Also follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe. 1-Quit all applications 2-Uninstall Flash Player 3-Install the latest version of flash player 4-Restart the computer 5-Repair permissions Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz / 4GB / 800MHz / 500GB OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

Re: 2nd 20 in LCD screen zapped?
Evening (Argh! Morning) I was going to query whether it was a Benq! I had a Benq experience the same issues as described by Gary and Ruben! It was my personal 17 circa 2004-5. It was under warranty and I took it to a service centre but typically it didn't fault while they had it. I ended up having it in storage due to moving and when I pulled it out it didn't work. By then it would have been out of warranty so I threw it especially with the prices of LCD's going down. Even today I still don't run with an LCD at home just using the laptop screen. MacBook Pro Unibody - Laptop Edge
Morning all, For owners of the Unibody shaped MacBook Pros (and short run 13 MacBooks) how do you find typing directly on the laptop? I've found my wrists have a little tingle from the 'sharp' edge on the front of the laptop? I didn't have issues on my older MacBook Pro (2006 model) with the plastic edging but it seems quite apparent at the moment. Although I might add regular 'laptop' users might not notice it but I am as I use a cushion (Can't think of the correct name) on keyboard and mouse at work and I can't work without them anymore. Any thoughts/opinions appreciated. Lost mail inbox and outbox (sent)
Yesterday Mail decided all by itself to convert itself to a MobileMe account and in doing so deleted my iinet mail account. In the process of converting all of the existing emails to that account the entire contents of the inbox and outbox were deleted. Oddly though most of the contents of the other mail boxes are still there. I've tried several restores from Time Machine: - just prior to the problem. - 9 hours before the problem. - 1 day before the problem. With each the inbox and outbox (sent) are still missing. Hi again Mike, I just read your email again. What version Mail and OSX are you using? With each the inbox and outbox (sent) are still missing. Since 10.4, the Outbox has not been shown in the Sidebar to the Mail window, unless you have acted to send one or more messages, but for some reason they have not yet actually been sent. After sending it would again disappear from the Sidebar. Re: MacBook Pro Unibody - Laptop Edge
Hi David, I wear long-sleeved shirts, so I don't have a problem with the keyboard. However, I agree with you that it's quite vicious. Putting ticket tape across the edge makes it less sharp, but it'll still put pressure on your wrist. I'd suggest you raise the back edge of your laptop (try resting it on a pad of post-it notes), so that they keyboard is slightly angled, then your wrist won't touch the front edge. Hi Kim, I think we require more information about your .clp files to be able to help you. Normally a .clp is a Windows Clipboard file, or a bitmap image. Hey Kim, I had every intention of replying sooner but uni study restricted that.. :( I did a couple of minutes research on Google and I was unable to find anything. It would appear this is a proprietary file type/extension that this security software uses. The only suggestion I can have for you is contact the supplier or the company directly and ask if there is some options. Also, I'm guessing there is an interface to view these videos, no option to Export the video from there? Re: .clp files
Hi David Kim, From what I can find out about Pacom ONE4ALL surveillance system, it records in PAL 720x576 MPEG-4 compression format to a 320GB HDD. In that case it is already in MP4 ... why the extension .clp, unless that is just a wrapping around MP4? If you want to burn a dvd-video disc from your mpeg4 you also need to realise that you're going to be re-compressing an already compressed format, so it'll lose more quality. Toast can convert mp4 video to a format that can then be burnt to DVD, but it will be degraded. I can't find any support links for the Pacom ONE4ALL surveillance system, and we would ned to know the Model number anyway. http://www.google.com/search?q=Pacom+ONE4ALL+surveillance+systembtnG=Searchhl=enclient=safarirls=ensa=2 Cheers, Ronni On 27/11/2009, at 2:08 PM, David Moyle wrote: Hey Kim, I had every intention of replying sooner but uni study restricted that..
Hi Kim, I googled your surveillance system and came up with this manual: http://www.pacom.com.au/ebooknoprice/catalogue/images/S75402.pdf I don’t know if this is your actual system but looking at the specs is says: Under recording and playback: * Compression Method - MPEG-4, Simple Profile * Recording Mode - Time-Lapse, Event, Pre-Event (up to 30 sec regardless of IPS), Text-In * Search Mode - Calendar, Time/Date, Event Log, Text-in, Bookmark And under network: * Remote Software - Monitoring, Playback, Setup, Upgrade, System Status Check, Image Capture Print, Clip Player, Web access via I.E. So it would seem that the actual video should be MPEG-4 but I am assuming the .clp format is something it uses for its “Clip Player” software – perhaps it includes more than just the video – such as info pertaining to “event log”, “text-in” etc (I’m just guessing here) Some approaches to try are: * Sometimes proprietary formats are actually bundles of files (eg the “packages” that mac software comes in, or the .itlp that iTunes LPs use) - to check this select the file in finder and “right-click” it - then in the drop-down menu, if there is a “show package contents” option click it and another finder window will open showing all the components of the bundle. If there is no “show package contents” option then it is probably not a file bundle. * If you don’t have it already, download the VLC media player http://www.videolan.org/ I often find this will play things that quicktime fails to - just open VLC and drag the .clp file onto the media player window – then select it and hit the “play” button. * Try just changing the file extension to .mp4 and see if you can play it (again, try the VLC media player) Let us know how you get on. If so open it up and inactivate the fonts, restart, and see if all MS office programs work properly. If not post back so we can suggest something else.
