Question for those on iiNet Broadband...
Hi Rod I'm on the Bateman exchange and haven't had that problem. I know I had a noise on the line problem a year ago - turned out to be the fact that my cordless phone base station was sitting on my ADSL modem. Hence the ADSL modem now lives on the floor under my desk. I tell you what is great about the new DSLAM - firstly, my upload speed doesn't appear to be as limited - I often get uploads around 100KB/s sustained. Then last week when I upgraded to a 1500K line, the changeover took about half an hour! Now I'm looking forward to iiNet being able to offer some 2Meg and 6Meg lines at really cheap prices! Cheers Karl Hi All! Just a quickie for the morning. Is anyone here have iiNet's broadband account *and* are located in the area that has been converted to the new DSLAM (iinet's own broadband, rather than Telstra's)? We have noticed in the last few weeks since the Bateman exchange has been converted that there is a lot of noise coming through the phones now. I have replaced the filters, checked the phone lines running around the house. And I have also turned the ADSL modem off, which results in the noise disappearing. From memory the problem started about the time the exchange was swapped. Anyone else? New AppleCentre in Perth
Hi all I just wanted to bring the list up to date with the new Apple Reseller in Perth. DigiLife, who also own the AppleCentre in Mount Hawthorn, have opened an AppleCentre right in the heart of the CBD. Its in Carillion Arcade, on the Hay St level (which is upstairs on the Murray St level). It is right near the walkway across to MYER. The team at DigiLife hope to replicate the outstanding store they have in Mount Hawthorn - with the largest range of 3rd party products for the Mac available in WA - as well as having good stocks of all Apple products. As of writing this, they even have the new 4G iPods and iPod minis in stock. The store is somewhat smaller than their Mount Hawthorn store - as you could imagine, rents in the CBD are more than 5 times that of the rents in the suburbs. Digilife have squeezed an amazing amount of product into the space. They (and Apple) are hoping that this new store brings Apple to a huge new group of customers (and judging by the first few days - it will). If you're in the city, I encourage you to support them in their efforts and visit the new store. Re: Best and cheapest ADSL in Perth
Disclaimer: I don't own shares in iiNet I must be the luckiest iiNet customer in Perth - and so must my entire family. Being an ex Telstra broadband customer, I was getting jacked off by their high prices and 20-30 minute wait times for technical support. So I moved to iiNet who at the time were one of the few alternatives to Telstra. That was over 18 months ago, and during that time I must say I've been very impressed with their pricing and service. My parents and my sister are also with iiNet (finally convinced mum that broadband for $24.95 was a great deal) and they have also had no problems. I rarely need to ring technical support, but when I do I get through within a few minutes. I tell the support person my problem and that I am an experienced user, and they put me through to a senior tech right away. iiNets toolbox feature is great, and their ftp servers are well setup and fast. iiNets off-peak period is the longest I've seen (8 hours - midnight to 8am, great for early morning DLs). iiNet are very responsive to changing market conditions - they beat Telstra to market with the new 200MB broadband plan and are cheaper. As for Westnet being cheaper - am I looking at the right place? Their plans are all about the same price as iINet, and iiNet is cheaper if you preselect them for your non-local phone calls. Westnet have more plans, and you can have a fixed IP if you want one. I don't want one - if I did, then Westnet are cheaper than iiNet. iiNets Fixed IP plans are probably their biggest downfall! I'm not saying iiNet are better than Westnet - I've never been a Westnet customer, but I for one am a satisfied iiNet broadband customer. Cheers Karl

Exciting Day on Saturday
Hi all I'd like to give you all an update on an exciting event taking place this Saturday. We are opening a new AppleCentre for the folk who live South of the River, in Cannington. This store is very exciting for Apple in Perth. Firstly, it is a totally new look for AppleCentre which looks sensational. I've seen some of the east coast stores that have been done this way, and they look great - a fantastic retail experience. Secondly, it is a new concept store for Apple in Australia as this will be our first AppleCentre store within a store. This AppleCentre will be located inside the new Abacus superstore in Cannington, and is going to enable us to be in front of thousands of PC users, who may have never considered switching to the Mac. So please come down on Saturday and take a look. There will be heaps of activities going on and Garner and I will both be there during the day. We will have the updated iApps on demo and I'm trying VERY hard to get one of the new 12 Powerbooks over as well - no guarantees on that one, but it's looking pretty likely. If I don't get it, you will be able to see the new 12 PowerBook at most of the resellers next week. Also, the first 20 AppleCentre customers to spend over $80 will receive a free movie ticket. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday, the store opens at 9am, and is located next to Toys R Us on Albany Highway. Re: Looking for an Airport Station!
The new Airport Base Stations are great value. Apple introduced Airport Extreme at MacWorld, which supports the 802.11g standard and is backward compatible with the old 802.11b standard. Airport Extreme runs at 54Mbps vs 11Mbps, but you need an 802.11g compatible card/device to achieve this speed. You can of course, still run old 802.11b 11Mbps devices through the new base stations, at 11Mbps. The new base stations come in 2 varieties. For $399 you get a base station without a modem, which is perfect for people who just want to use it on a LAN, or if you have ADSL. For $499 you get a base station with a modem, and which can also have an external antenna attached, which will increase your range. This model can also be dialed in to - meaning if you have it plugged into your ADSL, and you need to access the internet away from home, you can dial up your base station, and connect to your home network, including your ADSL link. Your own personal ISP service! These base stations also have a USB port, allowing you to plug in your USB printer, and share it with others on your network! More information is available at http://www.apple.com.au/airport The new base stations will be available in the next couple of weeks, from your local AppleCentre or Authorised Apple Reseller. Need your help - Perth Roadshow September 5
Hi WAMUGgers The team at Apple Perth need your help. We have a long standing tradition of having the most successful roadshow in the country, in terms of both numbers registered and actual attendance at the roadshow. Not per Capita - I'm talking actual numbers! To date, whilst our numbers look good, we are being beaten by Sydney and Melbourne. So could I ask, if you are intending to attend, and have not yet registered, could you please do so. I also encourage you to invite friends, family and work collegues to attend, and get them to register also. As always, the roadshow will be something special - and it is a good opportunity to get non-Mac people to see the best of Apple. This is not a plea to just register people for the sake of numbers - if you can't make it, that's OK, don't register, but if you might be attending, then do register. And don't register dead people either (its not an election). We want to know the real number of people coming, and we want as many people there as possible (Burswood holds 2500 people). To make it easy for you, here's where to register - http://www.apple.com.au/seminars/macosx/ Looking forward to seeing you at the roadshow Karl Videmanis Business Development Manager WA
