Re: Posting to list not coming back as email

2011-08-07 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi Tim

> I use POP to access my Gmail accounts in Apple Mail

That's what I fought you might be using if you can consider switching to
IMAP when someone replies to one of your "original" messages sent to the
list that message would gets move to the inbox in Apple Mail most likely.

I know IMAP is not an option for everyone if you have low bandwidth
available, this could also be solved using a rule in Apple Mail or
preferably using a filter on the Gmail servers Let me have a look to see if
I can make a filter to help you out.

Personally this has never bothered me, if it goes to the sent items the
e-mail has been sent and if there's any problems normally the mail server
will send you an error e-mail back.

Re: Posting to list not coming back as email

2011-08-07 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi Tim

Okay I will start with the mailing list software.

Some mailing list software allows you to choose if you receive your original
e-mail back from the list, WAMUG List does not have this option this option
is set by the list administrators and I have always presumed it was switched
off as I never receive my original e-mail back from the list. but it sounds
like this feature is switched on but Gmail and Google Apps look like they
are handling this option differently.

What happens for me please keep in mind I do not use a mail client and only
use the Gmail web interface.

When I start a new message on the Mailing list say "my computer is about to
explode please help" which I addressed to the usual address when I send this
e-mail it only shows up in the "Sent Mail" option in Gmail. the e-mail
returns to the inbox when someone replies to the message on list.

When I reply to an e-mail on list say "Posting to list not coming back as
email" I send my reply as usual to the normal address but as far as I can
see I don't receive a copy back from the list but Gmail keeps my reply
in-line in its conversation view it also appears in the sent mail section.

I hope this helps you a little bit. and here's my question do you have your
Google apps e-mail address set up using pop or IMAP? in Apple Mail

Re: Sort of off-topic: HD DVD

2011-08-04 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, Merv

HD DVD was one of the formats designed to replace normal DVDs eventually
lost to Blu-ray. and would most likely require an HD DVD player in less the
disc specifies that it is a backwards compatible disc, only released
uncertain HD DVDs.

You can find out more here on Wikipedia<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD>

Below is a quote from the relevant part from Wikipedia
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD#Compatibility>

Compatibility <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD#Compatibility>

Backward compatibility is available with all HD DVD players, allowing users
to have a single player to play all types of HD DVD, DVD and CD. There is
also a hybrid HD DVD format which contains both DVD and HD DVD versions of
the same movie on a single disc, providing a smooth transition for the
studios in terms of publishing movies, and allowing consumers with only DVD
players to still use the discs. DVD replication companies can continue using
their current production equipment with only minor alterations when changing
over to the format of HD DVD replication. Due to the structure of the
single-lens optical head, both red and blue laser diodes can be used in
smaller, more compact HD DVD players.

Re: Power board plug orientation

2011-07-30 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Adrian, Several companies now make Powerboards With the relevant spacing I
have seen them at Bunnings and Dick Smith.

The ones I own several of are from HPM.

HPM - http://www.hpm.com.au

4 outlet powerboard - D105/4TR All four have the
relevant spacing. available in black and white.
12 outlet powerboard - D105/12TR Only four of the 12 have spacing on one
side. available in black and white and silver.

I've also seen them from Belkin but I am unable to find the relevant models
on their website any more. and another two companies that are highly
recommended also make them as well unfortunately I cannot remember their
names at the moment.

I don't know what's going on exactly because it still works for me but you
could try entering your username and password in the relevant boxes but
before submitting them choose to save the login information again from one
past words menu item or button you could try to say that as a new login or
update the existing one.

Hi All and Bill

You can use VLC to play the movie. Pause the movie at the critical point and

As others have mentioned you will require VLC, but it is unnecessary to
use MacOS X to take a screenshot VLC has this feature built-in you just need
to hold down the "Command + Option + S" buttons when you want to save the
relevant frame.

it also could be that their e-mail address is getting used for a reply

Re: Phishing warning on WAMUG messages.

2011-07-05 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, David and All WAMUG

Gmail has recently made changes to The way they detecte Phishing e-mails,
You can find out more here on the Gmail
blog<http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/protect-yourself-from-scams-by-knowing.html>.
But to put it simply no one actually sends you a e-mail when replying to
this list Their e-mail goes to "'wamug@wamug.org.au"" and then is Re-sent on
to you. that's why now Gmail is detecting that the e-mail is not sent via
the original e-mail address.

I would say it's pretty safe to ignore this message from all the e-mails
sent to WAMUG.

Hope this makes some sense, if not I will clarify some more after I get some
sleep.

Re: DNLA servers

2011-07-04 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi Hugh

Personally if all your content is sourced using iTunes I would continue
using the Apple TV. But I would plug the TV into the Internet temporarily to
do a firmware upgrade.

Additionally as some members have already mentioned above You should be able
to use all the networks catch up services without running a media
server. You most likely already have ABC's iView Which will appear when you
plug in the Internet, and a firmware upgrade should make SBS's catch
up services and PLUS7 show up as well these features were added to older
select BRAVIA models in firmware upgrades.

Hi, Hugh

It really depends on what you wanted to do and what devices you need it to
work with. As certain software packages are best designed for certain
devices like the Sony PlayStation or at Microsoft Xbox.

DNLA is mostly referenced with TV"s and most server software that you will
find on the Mac only support certain models of certain brand TVs You might
have some better luck searching for "DLNA UPnP AV Servers Mac" But if you
give me some more information on what you want to do I should be able to
give you a good recommendation as I've tried several different software
packages on Mac OS X over the last few years.

Anyway to get back on track, There is plenty of software packages for Mac
and Windows that you can install on each machine to monitor that machines
network traffic. But there is no physical way to monitor all the traffic on
the physical network unless it goes through one Central computer

Ronda, has posted one of the best suggestions so far (it would be great if I
also wasn't having download problems)

I haven't been able to confirm it yet but it looks like they have two
applications one that you install on each computer (Mac) that looks like it
can report usage to a centralised location but this application does not
have a Windows version so there would be no way to get the windows computers
current usage you will need to find a program that can do this on Windows
most likely not one and then you have to merge both datapoints together.

Before getting into one of the ways I have done this in the past:

I thought I should mention OpenDNS is a great service and has lots of
features including stats on what websites you have visited it will tell you
how many times the website has been visited unfortunately it will not tell
you how much physical data was transferred but could be useful to track what
websites are being looked at to give you a better view of things.

What I have done previously at another clients place is to rout all the
network traffic through one of the mac's temporarily to get an idea of
network usage this is not a great solution but works good enough as a
temporary one.
(let me know if you want to give this a go)

Rob: buy any chance you don't know the name of the software that you can use
to set custom bandwidth limits and allocate a certain amount of usage to
each machine is called.

Apologies for the bad punctuation cannot be bothered fixing it

I'll be completely honest with you I don't think it's gaining that's causing
the problems as in the grand scheme of things gaming does not use that much
data.

My Experience, when I tested my brother on his Sony PlayStation 3 he was
using anywhere between 90 to 150 MB her two-hour gaming and eventually I
found out that the usage hole was YouTube.

Some things that can cause unexpected chunks of usage data are, automatic
software updates (Windows, Mac) I don't normally recommend turning these off
as most users forget to update their computers and I recommend you update
and patch your computer immediately especially in the case of Windows (I
believe security patches come out on the first week of every month).

So we have software updates from computers, gaming consoles. Streaming video
from all the major Australian TV networks and other sources like
http://live.twit.tv/

As I mentioned earlier YouTube (You watch three videos and on average you
have already downloaded 150 to 200 MB that's not even taking account of
higher quality videos that YouTube now have available so those 10 minute
clips can eat into your data very quickly specially if they close the window
and come back and watch the same video again later)

Then you have the other suspects P2P and BitTorrent

I've not been able to find any software that is effective at monitoring data
> traffic to individual machines. WebSpy SOHO looks like it might do the job,
> but is still in development and doesn't work on OSX properly yet.

As I looked into this several years ago on Whirlpool and other places. most
software packages were ineffective. Most people that are doing this on their
home networks are using a Linux Box that they have built themselves as most
of the software can only detect data that is going through that
machine. The Linux Box would go between their modem/router and ethernet
switch OR wireless access point.

I would have thought routers would have logged this data, and an app could
> be made to compile this, but apparently it's not that simple.

I can tell you I don't think there's any consumer modem/router or switches
that can do this. I believe in a high-end network they would do something
similar as mentioned above it would either be a dedicated server OR a
Switche that had this capability built-in (is that even possible) OR some
kind of a Soft Appliance. (I think that's the correct term)

BTW, my neighbour solved this issue with a password change on the router,
> and gifting his three children wireless sticks with one month of data on it.
> After that, they paid for their own!

I would not go that far as it would be completely totally the most
expensive Internet that you can get here in Australia I would talk to your
kids/young adult's and explain to them you are hitting your monthly usage
quota.

Either try to get them to lower their usage or offer them the option to pay
the difference and upgrade your usage allowance. As my younger brother
increased his usage I suggested to my dad that I would pay the difference to
get the upgrade to the monthly download allowance as I was using more than
half the allocated usage at the time. now we can't even come close to
reaching the limit some months

Hi, Adrian

I recommend you take a look at Broadband Choice on Whirlpool <
http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/> Most of the ISPs on the Broadband Choice.
Webpage on the right under "Our members use"

Some things to be aware of:

Dodo - Runaway and hide under the couch cushions worst ISP in Australia
they are even before Telstra
Internode - They are a good ISP, But be aware of the reality distortion
field and the internode fanboys.
1TB Plans - I won't get into this too much but the average user does not
need one of these.

And now my personal recommendation Amnet, We switched to Amnet nearly a year
ago after also having enough of Telstra.

Service has been great and reliable technical support has been useful when
required. Western Australian-based company operated by Amcom. Who is one of
the largest backhaul provider's in Western Australia and owns a large
percentage of iiNet.

Hi, Mark

As your parents are getting hit by the same scam phone calls once or twice a

Unfortunately I forget which is the relevant department here in WA. Does

As I mentioned earlier in several members on this list at as well not all
USB ports on modern Macs are created equal. This is the exact same problem
my dad has with his Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (Previous Generation) and exactly
what you have mentioned above is how we fix the problem unfortunately I have
not been able to find another solution.

I have speculated Most of these problems most likely could be solved it by
using a USB powered hub or maybe one of these <

Re: Dragon dictate for iPhone n iPad

2010-12-10 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, All

It is good to see there's a version available now here in Australia I may
finally be able to get an iPhone. Also they have been promoting its free for
a limited time. But I haven't seen them make anyone else pay for it in
another country and it's been available elsewhere for quite awhile now

Regarding Nuances Collection Of Your Voice:

it's actually quite a long story and it all hast to do with Google and how
they went about designing their speech recognition algorithm.

1-800-GOOG-411 (Wikipedia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOOG-411>) is where
it all started.

Taken from Google's shutdown page
<http://www.google.com/goog411/index.html>of the GOOG-411
Service

GOOG-411 was the first speech recognition service from Google and helped
> provide a foundation for more ambitious services

Before they shut down the GOOG-411 Service:

They applied their millions of voice samples to products such as

   - Google Voice <http://www.google.com/voice> Originally Provides you with
a Text version of your voicemail. Now is also used for other features
   - YouTube <http://www.youtube.com/> Originally if you opt in they would
automatically try to provide you with closed captioning for your videos. I
   believe this happens now automatically

Which then allow them to build more of a database of voice samples, Which
then enabled Google to show off a great new feature built-in to Android a
voice keyboard.

To cut a long story short nuances now collecting voice samples in their
mobile apps (currently not on the desktop yet) so they can keep their number
one slot in the voice recognition software sector and not get taken over
by Google which is currently in slot number two.

I would also like to point out if you use the "Google Mobile App" your voice
is also being sent to Google to be analysed

Good news about you getting it to work now I've added some more information
to your points from your previous e-mail.

> Check System preferences, Accounts, login items – still no EyeTV helper –

Yes you are correct this happens after you have completed this set-up
process.

Check inside the EyeTV application package – EyeTV Helper is in the
> Resources folder

That is correct it is also then copied to /Library/Application Support/EyeTV
 After the setup process

Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (Previous Generation) into the USB port closest to the
> FireWire 800 port

As various members have mentioned on the mailing list previously Intel iMacs
most USB ports are not created equal as they using a USB hub internally. on
this computer the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (Previous Generation) must be always
plugged into this USB ports. more information below

Start up the computer - EXCEPT it didn’t start!! - Got the chime, got the

This is actually good news. (But it really shouldn't happen. But it does)
Why it's good it means the iMac is finally recognising the Elgato EyeTV
Hybrid (Previous Generation).

Now I’m panicking – thinking I’ve bricked my iMac (about 2 weeks after
> warranty expired!) - however, I disconnect the EyeTV and UPS USB plugs (just
> the keyboard now) and try re-starting – and it starts up OK. I run disk
> verification and repair permissions (yes, I know it doesn’t sound like it

Next time don't panic just unplug the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
(Previous Generation). And wait a few minutes and the computer will proceed
with the boot process once it's gotten to the next step you can plug in
the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (Previous Generation).

The reason I believe this happens is the problem I mentioned earlier
with "EyeTV
Helper"

>- With EyeTV software running – unplug & re-plug – the picture picks up
>where it left off – no problems.
>- Quit EyeTV – unplug & re-plug – EyeTV launches (my preference
>setting) and the picture picks up where it left off – no problems.
>
> You should never have any problems doing this while the device has been
recognised by the computer. but you may have some problems after a reboot

>
>- Unplug EyeTV, restart the iMac and re-plug - EyeTV launches and the
>picture picks up where it left off – no problems.
>
>
if you ever have problems again unplugged the device before shutting down
your computer than re-plug the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
(Previous Generation) into the computer use the same USB port I mentioned
earlier. if you encounter the same problem mentioned above are follow the
steps mentioned there and then continue on

Alsoif your computer has problems shutting down just unplug the Elgato EyeTV
Hybrid (Previous Generation) and it should continue the shutdown process.
(Did not experience this on my current iMac was on the previous model)

So, touch wood, it all seems to be running OK – thank you VERY MUCH Kyle –

You Are Welcome, I know a lot about problems with EyeTV 2 and 3 and with

Re: IceTV app - recommended? - and Elgato EyeTV Hy brid/i7 iMac problems

2010-12-07 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, Neil

OK let's see if I can help.

First: I have never managed to get EyeTV 3 Working with the Elgato EyeTV
Hybrid (Previous Generation) on my 27” i7 iMac. Also I have never gotten it
to work on any other computer and have always had to revert to the last
version of EyeTV 2.
Doesn't really apply to you Neil But I thought I would let you know that
upgrading to EyeTV 3. Most likely will not fix your problem.

Like you I had a problem getting the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (Previous
Generation) to work on my 27” i7 iMac. but it would work perfectly fine on
other machines as mentioned above.
I did eventually get it working but as the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
(Previous Generation)
was my dad's, and I got sick of sharing I eventually bought myself a new
one.

As I can't remember exactly what solution I eventually used to get it to
work and my notes are not useful regarding this problem we will have to
start from the beginning. Going from memory the problem is a combination of
not enough power getting supplied to the unit and a problem with "EyeTV
Helper"

I know you have completed this but I would do it again

I would start by running the EyeTV Reporter utility and I would choose the
uninstall option. if the EyeTV 2 Application is still in the applications
folder I would remove it. Once you have completed this step I would make
sure that "EyeTV Helper" has been removed. Navigate to /Library/Application
Support/EyeTV if this folder is here remove it. Now go to system
preferences, Accounts choose your username and remove "EyeTV Helper" from
the login items. Then Restart your computer.

Installation, Download the latest version from <
http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/support/Update-Start/Update-EyeTV-2
>
if you've already done this is not necessary to download a new copy (do not
use EyeTV 2's built-in software updater)

Once you have the updated disk image install the EyeTV 2.5.3 application
into your applications folder. Make sure the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
(Previous Generation)
is not plugged into your computer launched the EyeTV 2.5.3 application. then
proceed to system preferences, Accounts choose your username make sure a
copy of "EyeTV Helper" is in login items.

Then shut down your computer then plug the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid
(Previous Generation)
into the USB port closest to the FireWire 800 port. start up the computer
and open the EyeTV 2.5.3 application.

if you are lucky everything should be working. if not I will have more for
you later

Apple TV First-Generation Pricing and Models

Hi All

Can anyone tell me what the last two capacities the Apple TV

And I was wondering what an Apple TV 120 GB brand-new sealed inbox would be

Re: 1Password Thanksgiving Giveaway - Two user & multicomputer licensing

2010-11-25 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, Neil

Regarding the licences so far you have done everything correctly. when
licensing 1Password the application

have separate user accounts on each computer just enter your license in your
user account and the other persons license in their user account on each
computer. if you only have one user account you can enter both license keys
in the application at the same time.

As you have multiple computers I would be using
dropbox<http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTIyOTE5MDk>.

licenses to see my earlier e-mails or one of Nicholas's e-mails for more

Also Nikki has informed me that she has won also left next person who asks
on list will receive one from Nikki.

Neil: yours was sent from Nicolas as I sent him a licence so he could hand

After some further thought on this matter. But first an update on the
Hackintosh
community several members already are working on this

Peter, This would not surprise me as Apple have licensed the ability to run
MacOS X Server in a virtual machine (VMware or Parallels) for at least
several years now the only restriction being the virtual machine client
needed to be running on Apple-based hardware. There is nothing stopping
Apple from removing this restriction so MacOS X Server could be virtualised
on any hardware.

Personally I don't think Apple will license MacOS X Server to other server
manufacturers don't think they wish to support all the available hardware
that these manufacturers want to use. But they may release it to
manufacturers OR sell it themselves with a list of supported hardware
requirements

What most likely is going to happen is Apple is happy with the Mac Mini
Server as it satisfies most people's needs in small to medium businesses and
in home use. the MacPro Server for users that need a little bit more and
Final Cut Server users, Leaving the high-end server market to other
manufacturers.

Rob, I'm not entirely sure about this but there's definitely enough code
available in the MacOS X client version. as I have modified the client
version before so I could run it in VMware.

Hi All and Brian

I believe you're talking about Firesheep a Firefox plug-in that was released
two weeks ago. At a hacking conference somewhere in the US. I won't go into
this too much but definitely worth having a look

Here's the important information how to protect yourself.

   1. Do not use public WiFi (that his unsecured)
   2. Use a script that forces the use of HTTPS

How you can protect others if you operate your own wireless router turn on
encryption requires WPA OR WPA2 apparently this encrypts the users traffic
between the user and the wireless router. then you can either hand out the
password where publicly OR you can place the password were in SSID

There's probably a lot more solutions out there now since I last checked
last week sometime.

Also probably Worth a listen if you want a lot more information.

Hi Aurora

I use the following for a all-purpose data recovery

Data Rescue 3 <http://www.prosofteng.com/>
DiskWarrior 4 <http://www.alsoft.com/index.html>

I also used three programs that are specifically designed for recovering
digital photos from memory cards. I am unsure of their names at the moment I
will have to have a look at work tomorrow.

Hi Stuart

In an emergency is there some way of using the GPS of the iPhone and sending
> your location to the emergency services e.g. police, SES, ambulance etc?

I don't believe you can send the GPS data directly to the emergency
services. But there are several applications that you can download that will
give you the raw GPS data which you could then relay via the telephone to
the emergency operator on the other end

Hands-on With A iPad In Perth?

2010-06-02 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi All WAMUG

As I'm going to be in Perth for the next couple of days. I was wondering if
anyone knows of any retailers That have the new iPad On display as I would
like to go and get my hands on one before making a large purchase.

I know many retailers may not have any in stock But I'm hoping one or two
resellers have a display model

I have been told to try JB HiFi OR Myer

Sadly I don't own a iPhone at the moment I am waiting to see what apple
releases next. I nearly bought one when the 3GS came out but due to the
problems I mentioned with Dragon
Dictation<http://www.dragonmobileapps.com/apple/dictation.html> For iP
devices in my previous e-mail I have been holding off as I will need to rely
on that program heavily to send e-mail and text messages

But the via Dictate iPhone
App<http://www.macspeech.com/article_info.php?articles_id=359> Sounds
interesting Unfortunately cannot remember seeing any video of it
from Macworld Expo 2010. Personally I believe they should just build it into
the Dragon Dictation
<http://www.dragonmobileapps.com/apple/dictation.html> For iP
devices App

Also returning to MacSpeech Scribe I believe they should integrate it into
the next versions of MacSpeech Dictate International, Medical, Legal And
maybe added as an add on in MacSpeech Dictate

2010-05-31 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi All
If you're considering buying MacSpeech Dictate there is different microphone
bundles that can make the price higher

These are the ones I've seen in retail stores as boxed versions. I have no
problems using the built-in microphone but I use it in a small bedroom I
have used both microphones mentioned below testing in a store.

And would recommend both microphones I would also recommend using an
external microphone but as mentioned I only have some problems with the
built-in microphone calls by background noise and chatter.

1. MacSpeech Dictate
2. MacSpeech Dictate + Plantronics Calisto with Bluetooth USB Adapter
3. MacSpeech Dictate + Revolabs xTag Wireless USB

OR

1. MacSpeech Dictate International
2. MacSpeech Dictate International + Plantronics Calisto with Bluetooth USB
Adapter
3. MacSpeech Dictate International + Revolabs xTag Wireless USB

Also the MacSpeech Website Allows you to choose from several different
microphones

Now you mention it I do remember him posting that on twitter I'm pretty sure
he switched around the same time i did shortly after their 1.5 controversial

like the in-line dictation editor.

And there's a very good reason MacSpeech Scribe is not a dictation
application It's designed to work with pre-recorded dictation audio OR
audio recorded on a digital recorder. It was quite interesting that this
was not included in the MacSpeech Dictate programme because in the Dragon
NaturallySpeaking software package it is built in to all but the Standard

Re: Voice recognition software

2010-05-31 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi Jennifer

When it comes to Speech Recognition Software I have found there is only one
name to trust Nuance <http://www.nuance.com/> Communications. I have been
searching for years for reliable speech recognition software to help out
with my reading and writing disability.

Several years back I discovered Nuance's Dragon
NaturallySpeaking<http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/>
Which I had been running virtually for several years in Windows on my
Mac In 2008 MacSpeech <http://www.macspeech.com> announced
MacSpeech, Dictate <http://www.macspeech.com/dictate/> at MacWorld 2008
which was completely built on Nuance's Dragon NaturallySpeaking Engine

Unfortunately I had nothing but problems with the program into they released
a new version last year "MacSpeech Dictate v1.5+". Since the release of
version 1.5+ I have now fully switched to using MacSpeech,
Dictate<http://www.macspeech.com/dictate/> and
since November last year I have not run Dragon
NaturallySpeaking<http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/>
 Once.

Nuance Communications Have also been impressed with MacSpeech's dictate
product's and their progress on the Mac platform so several months ago they
purchased the company.

Anyway all my e-mails sent on (GMUG) and WAMUG Mailing List's are entirely
dictated using speech recognition software I also run several websites and
The Geraldton Macintosh User Group's <http://www.gmug.org.au/> Entire
website was dictated using speech recognition software

Ronni mentions David Pogue <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Pogue> in one
of her e-mails David uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking to dictate all his books
and his New York Times column

Internet Sharing Not Working At All - New iMac

2010-03-21 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi All WAMUG and (GMUG)

I'm having a problem with Internet sharing on the new core i7 iMac. It will
not let me set it up at all Over airport So last night after some googling I
did the following

http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11176842

Now it crash's or switchs off in the system preference pane when trying to
change the options

Currently I am sharing a connection between two computers using FireWire but
it will no longer let me share the Internet since I reset the preferences.
What is interesting is that I set this
up originally in the Internet sharing preference pane

Also before I did the reset I could not create at computer to computer
network in the AirPort menu bar. The first part of my problem has been
occurring since day one unable to share the Internet through the airport
card

I know Apple fix this with a software update but cannot remember if it was a
firmware update or OS update? Can anyone remember as I would like to try
reapplying the update. The computer is fully up-to-date and additionally I
have attached the system log that shows what is happening When I try to turn
on the Internet sharing preferences

Re: Framemaker

2010-02-28 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi Bill

Found this from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_FrameMaker

Adobe Systems acquired the product and returned the focus to the
professional market. Today, Adobe FrameMaker is still a widely-used
publication tool for technical
writers<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_writer>,
although no version has been released for the Mac OS
X<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X> operating
system, limiting use of the product (FrameMaker up to version 7.0 ran under
Mac OS 9, and is usable under Mac OS X, through version 10.4.11 "Tiger", on
PowerPC-based Macs in the Classic emulation
environment<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_(Mac_OS_X)>,
but there is no Mac OS X native version of FrameMaker). Note that latest
versions of Mac OS X, v10.5 "Leopard" and newer, eliminated Classic support,
even for PowerPC-based Macs. Therefore, if running Mac OS X 10.5.x, it is
now impossible to run any Mac version of FrameMaker using Apple-supplied
software. An alternative is
SheepShaver<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SheepShaver>,
a GPL <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPL>-licensed, open source MacOS Classic
run-time environment available for both PowerPC and Intel Macs.

FrameMaker versions 5.x through 7.2 (from mid-1995 to 2005) did not contain
updates to major parts of the program (including its general user interface,
table editing, and illustration editing), concentrating instead on bug fixes
and the integration of XML-oriented features (previously part of the
FrameMaker+SGML <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SGML> premium product).
FrameMaker did not feature multiple undo until version 7.2 (its 2005
release).

Re: ebuddy

2010-02-28 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, Hugh

I would take a look at OpenDNS <http://www.opendns.com/> it definitely
should do what you want to do.

But I don't recommend it if your ISP offers unmetered content. And if you
use that unmetered content a lot

Re: Time capsule

2010-02-18 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi, All

Remember you can extend your warranty on the Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme
Base Station and AirPort Express
If you purchase a AppleCare Protection Plan For a qualifying computer.

I cannot remember if both devices needed to be purchased at the same time.

Hi Reg

Yes they did they purchased a couple of months back

No

But the rumour is Google will integrate Google Talk and the Gizmo Project
and Google Voice (formerly GrandCentral). But the main reason Google
Purchased the Gizmo Project was to fight off legal troubles from the US
telephone companies regarding Google's Operations of Google Voice (formerly
GrandCentral).
