[WAMUG] September's General Meeting

2022-09-18 Thread topsmith--- via WAMUG
   Hello Fellow WAMUGgers

At our September general meeting, we had an attendace of six. Four
committee members and two regular members. However those who were
prestn saind they enjoyed the monthly Zoom get togethers and would like
   them to continue.

We then discussed the issue of attendance The chief problem is the time
sand effort put into preparing the meeting versus the interest that is
shown . This has been a concern even before Covid stopped our
   face-to-face meetings.

From our discussion, the following were issues we felt contributed to
   the low attendance.

People have the information they need at their fingertips, via the list
and the internet, and there may be a feeling that they do not need to
   ask.

The subject of meeting topics came up. It is a Catch-22. We are unsure
of what people want, so we provide topics we think might appeal, but
they are not the topics people want.

One attendee mentioned that they often feel their questions are too
basic; however, everyone agreed this was never the case. We all learn
from each other and can gain tips and knowledge from the answers others
give. e.g.During this meeting, we had questions on ransomware, what
hardware to use for a time machine back-up and hidden partitions on
   Macs.

We are a forum of users. (Forum = "A public meeting place for open
discussion.") and the more we contribute, the stronger we become

   The following decisions were made.
 * We will continue with the monthly Zoom meetings.
 * Before the meeting, we will ask for any questions, problems or
topics people want to be answered or discussed.
 * We will look into opening our meetings to other Mac groups.

   [1]Send Email

So, for now, we will continue with our monthly general meetings, and we
hope to see more of you there.

   Cheers,

   Maureen

[WAMUG] Where do we go from here?

2022-09-04 Thread topsmith--- via WAMUG
   Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,

This Tuesday 6 September, our member meeting will focus on……wait for
it….Where do we go from here?

On August 1, I sent a notification the to the list that the committee
had decided change our general meetings from monthly meetings to
   meetings ‘as and when needed’.

The following reasons came up in our discussions. They are not
criticisms of any person or group of people but are facts

The change in decision was due to -
 * declining attendance
 * not knowing what members would be interested in, which has resulted
in the committee coming up with ideas that might be of interest to
   members
 * presentations at meetings being left to a few.
 * our WAMUG list being the main source of information and help.

So, this month’s meeting is an opportunity for you to have your say and
join in the discussion. If you are interested in contributing, please
   join us .

[WAMUG] April's general Meeting

2022-03-22 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this month’s general meeting as
will be be devoted to musescore.  musescore software is not
affiliated with Apple so what will be demonstrated may be of interest
to anyone who sings, studies or plays an instrument regardless of the
operating system they use. And did I say it was free to download?,
So if you know of anyone who may be interested, pass on the
invitation.

TOPIC: musecore - for anyone who who plays, sings or creates music,

FURTHER INFORMATION: musescore allows you to create, playback and
print beautiful sheet music. This open-source software is available
for Windows, Mac and Linux. We will be looking at the free version and
demonstrating how to produce sheet music and use the software to
transpose music.

Members who use this software find it gives professional-looking
music scores and continually improves

There is also musescore.com. This is a community site that shares
sheet music via the web . musescore.com. also has mobile apps for iOS
and Android. The site offers free accounts but has a pro account for
those who want more.

[WAMUG] AGM - Your committee and other things.

2022-03-12 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers,

On 1 March this year, we held our Annual General Meeting.

As I previously mentioned in an email (We're Back 30/01/22), the
current five committee members were willing to give it for another 12
months. We had hoped for some 'fresh blood'  to bring new ideas and
energy, but it was not to be.

As there were no other nominees, the five were elected unopposed.

PRESIDENT  - Peter Hinchliffe

TREASURER - Bernard BarnwellL

SECRETARY - Maureen Smith

COMMITTEE MEMBERS  - Peter Smith & Daniel Kerr.

(The Presidents report is included below my salutation.)

OTHER THINGS

The Committee has been struggling with the issue of raising the
profile of the Members' Meetings. We have considered the option of
terminating these meetings in the form they currently exist.  After
the formal part of the AGM, a discussion took place on this issue, and
two ideas emerged.

1  We look into inviting the Committee of Apple Q, the Queensland
equivalent of WAMG, to attend our meetings.

2 We have some meetings that focus on topics broader than just Apple
software and hardware. Besides opening these meetings to our list
members, we could also invite others interested in that particular
topic.

As a result of this discussion our next Member's Meeting on 5 April
will look at the software “musescore”, a cross-platform,
open-source, professional music notation software that does so much
more. So, if you have friends and family who sing, compose or play
music, invite them to join us. Further information can be found at
https://musescore.com [1]

The secretary (Oops, that's me) will post further details after this
Tuesday's committee meeting.

Until you hear from me again, stay safe.

Maureen Smith

Presidents Report

WAMUG  AGM  01-03-2022

Welcome to the West Australian Mac User group Annual General Meeting
for 2022. It is actually nine months since our last AGM and the first
time in three years we have been able to keep to a March date.

Throughout this time, the committee has been able to 'get our feet
back onto the ground.' With less uncertainty during this period, we
have had the opportunities for regular Committee and regular Member's
Meetings, the latter via Zoom. We have also had the chance to reflect
and consider where WAMUG will be in the future.

It is that reflection I want to speak about this evening. A
consistent focus of our Committee meetings has been "How do we raise
the profile of the Members' Meetings among our cohort?" We realised
that we continue to face the same challenges each year. Before I
mention these challenges, please be aware that I am not listing a set
of criticisms but rather observations.

* WAMUG has become predominantly a 'list focussed' group.

* Attendance at the Members' General Meetings has dropped over the
years. This seems to be due to falling membership,  and members
spread out over the state and sometimes the continent. Travelling at
night is also a concern for some members. The use of Zoom for Members'
Meetings has not increased attendance.

* There appears to be less need for Q sessions in the meetings,
mainly because we can find solutions to most Apple problems on the web
or via the list.

* Our Committee has not changed for several years, except for the
retirement of our previous treasurer in 2020. Of the five who
currently stand, four are still working full-time, which reduces the
time they can devote to WAMUG activities.

* Calls for new committee members, when posted on the list, have had
some responses in the past, but generally, there is has been silence.

These factors have necessitated the consideration of the possible
termination of the Members' Meetings, certainly in their current form.
Throughout the rest of 2022, we will observe what is happening and ask
members their opinions and thoughts on this topic. We may find a
different format better suits the group.

The committee will put information on the list, and we welcome
members' suggestions and are happy to trial them.

The committee's decision to reduce membership fees from $35-$20 with
appreciated and has seen an increase in membership. I thank Bernard
Barnwell for this suggestion, and it is a rare and valued Treasurer
who reduces fees.

Although willing to be a committee member in 2022, I am standing down
from the role of President. I have enjoyed my time but need to step
aside for a while and recharge my batteries.

As I normally do, I want to thank the members of the WAMUG committee,
Peter Hinchcliffe, Peter Smith, Bernard Barnwell, and Daniel Kerr, for
their contributions throughout the past year. They have always had
WAMUG's best interests as their priority. Thank

[WAMUG] WAMUG. AGM

2022-02-23 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers,

Just a reminder that on Tuesday March 1, at 7:30 pm we will be
holding our Annual General Meeting. It is at this meeting that,
committee members are elected and the President & Treasurer’s report
is given.

This means at 9:00am on Friday 25th February only members who have
paid thier dues will be able to vote for their committee. From a
practical point of view, there will be  a change to the list of which
you need to be aware. If your subscription payment arrives in the bank
AFTER 9:00am on Friday February  25, you will be unable to vote and
you will be UNABLE TO POST TO THE LIST UNTIL AFTER THE AGM.  It may
seem a bit absurd, but it is legal requirement

The Awesome Foursome will be standing again as committee members but
we really need some fresh ideas  So if you are wiling to help please
join the committee. Email me ‘off list’ ‘if you do. If anyone
wants to take on the job of President, Secretary or Treasurer also
email me as we twin need to conduct a vote at the AGM.

At the end of the AGM we will have our usual Show and tell. A simple
question at our committee meeting, “Anyone know how I can trim the
beginning and end of a song?”  gave us the idea of revisiting that
stalwart of Apple’s stable of software, Quicktime.

So, put this date in your iCal and join us for our AGM.  Zoom
details will be sent out on the weekend.

Cheers,

Maureen Smith

[WAMUG} We're Back.

2022-01-29 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers

Firstly, let me thank all of you who have already paid your
subscriptions for 2022.

A few things of worth

1 We cannot send a receipt for subscription payments unless you have
paid by check and included a return address. The software that runs
our list does not have that functionality. Since most members pay by
bank transfer, you will receive a notification when the transfer is
successful. As with all bank transfers, the payer's responsibility is
to ensure funds are deposited into the correct account.

The necessity for members to notify via an email that they have paid
is because we only see that $20 has been added to the WAMUG Account.

2 Our AGM will be held on1st March 2022. If you wish to vote and
participate in the election of your committee members, (and we really,
really hope you do), your subscription will need to be 'in the bank'
by Friday, 25th February 2022. After that date, previous members who
have not renewed their subscriptions will be unable to post to the
list. Not because we are on a power trip, but because it is a legal
requirement of groups like ours that only paid-up members can vote in
committee elections.

What does that mean for those who have not paid their dues by the
25th?

If your payment arrives just after the cut-off date, you will need to
wait until after the AGM before you can post. For others,
subscriptions are accepted throughout the year, so if you decide to
join at a later date, WAMUG will renew your posting privileges.

3 We are looking for members to be part of our committee. Your
committee has remained virtually the same for ten years. The vote of
confidence you have in us has always been welcome and appreciated, but
a new member or two would bring new ideas and generate some more life
into the committee. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month.

We usually get together if you live in Perth, but we have also met
over zoom and via hybrid zoom. i.e. When a member cannot physically
attend, they 'zoom' in instead. If you live in a country area or
prefer not to travel at night with video conferencing capabilities,
you can still be part of your committee. So please mull this over
because we will be calling for nominations after our Committee meeting
in February.

4 Our next General meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, 1st
February and members and non-members are invited to join us via Zoom.
This month we will be looking at the Eagle App. This app provides you
with a one-stop method to collect, search, and organise various files
logically and all in one place. And as usual, if you have any
questions, we will be happy to assist.

Login details for the General meeting will be sent out in another
email.

Kind regard,

Maureen Smith

[WAMUG} General Meeting update

2021-11-01 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,

It was remiss of me not to include the following information
regarding tonight’s meeting

Peter H will be also be demonstrating the use of Pivot Tables in
Numbers. For a while now, Excel devotees have lauded the fact that
they could use Pivot tables. Apple’s spreadsheet, Numbers, din not
have this functionality. However things have changed. Apple has
recently added this functionality to Numbers.

What are Pivot tables you may be asking? Pivot tables allow you to
analyse any set of data, quickly group and summarise values, and
identify interesting patterns and trends. It may well be something you
didn’t realise you needed until you see it in action.

Hope to see you on Zoom.

Cheers,

Hello Fellow WAMUGers,

Once a year, on the first Tuesday in November, Australia hosts "the

the year, WAMUG hosts "the meeting that stops , or is it pauses, or
perhaps temporarily withdraws a small group of individuals."  So you

graphic-based formats, edit the image, and export it to any of 80
available file formats, plus do a lot more.

So if you are wishing you could add some pizzazz to your photo

[WAMUG} Meeting postponed

2021-08-03 Thread topsmith

 Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,
Please accept my apology for the mucked up  meeting tonight.,
Tuesday. I my rather weak defence, I was try to be efficient and set
up the meeting on Sunday evening. Then being even more efficient, I
sent out the invitation shortly afterwards  I then sat back and
congratulated myself on a job well done.  But there was one tiny flaw
in in my grand plan of efficiency.  I had set the meeting up for
Sunday.!!! Ugh
So for those of you who were unable to connect we will be reconvening
the meeting on the first Tuesday in September. It was too difficult to
reset a meeting on the spot.
However, there is silver lining. One thing we can learn from this
event, or non-event, is that  WAMUG accepts all levels of computer
competency.

Hello fellow  WAMUGgers,

I saw a meme last week that spoke volumes for how my week was going.
It was  a cute photograph of a duckling with the following words
underneath,

“ My ducks are absolutely not in a row. At this point I have no

Well I am pleased to say this week they have come home to roost and

[WAMUG} AGM Meeting

2021-05-31 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow WAMUGERS

Firstly, an apology for the confusion regarding last month’s
meeting or lack thereof.  Due to a death in the family, Peter S & I
were unable to organise or attend last month's meeting. The committee
agreed to not hold the general meeting for that month and a notice was
to be sent to the list to advise members. But .  the stars did
not align for us in early May.

Peter H blissfully sent the information to the list only discovering
much later the message never arrived and is probably now in deep space
causing some alien life form considerable amusement or
consternation.

However we are all on board for this week’s meeting which includes
our AGM. Below is the Zoom invitation.

[WAMUG} March Member's Meeting

2021-03-01 Thread topsmith

 Hello all WAMUGgers,
I hope you have had relaxing long weekend. With my thoughts turning to
the working week, I remembered we have another members meeting
tomorrow evening.
This month our resident expert, Peter Hinchcliffe, will be continuing
our understanding of that little gem Pages. He will be focussing on
Page Layout. Layout allows users to create documents with a more
custom design, like newsletters, books or posters. A page layout
document is like a canvas that you add text boxes, images and other
objects to, then arrange the objects on the page however you like.
In February we briefly looked at Pages and Numbers. So, If you have
any questions regarding the use of either piece of software you can
bring them up at the meeting and we will endeavour to answer them.
The second topic will be a continuation of our Digital Legacy series
started in 2020 At this meeting we will be concentrating on your
passwords and social media legacy. V
A link to the Zoom meeting is following this information. If you do
not receive a link but wish to attend please email me off list.

[WAMUG} BREAKING NEWS Zoom! Zoom! - to the WAMUG members meeting this evening

2021-02-01 Thread topsmith

 Hello WAMUGgers,
! I left out some important information regarding tonight's meeting.
Thank you to John, for alerting me.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing
information about joining the meeting. This email will come from
none other than the little known, but highly valuable, William
Amug.
William is an alias that has been used to set up the WAMUG Zoom
Account. By using his 'identify' committee members can utilise the
account without having to register individually, with all
the complications that that entails. William has also made the
registration more cost effective for the group.
So, when you receive your email, raise your cup, glass or mug to
WIllam Amug. Long may his identity reign.

[WAMUG} Monthly News

2021-01-27 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow WAMUGgers

I hope you are all keeping well and enjoyed your Australia Day. This
is a rather lengthy missive from me. If you want to stop and make a
cuppa before you reading further, please do so. I will wait.

1 MONTHLY MEETINGS

This Tuesday, February 2, 2021, our monthly membership meetings will
start again. Although listed for members if you know of anyone who
wants to join in, just email me via the list when the announcement is
posted to the list.

The Committee is aware online meetings have probably lost their shine
and certainly do not make up for the face to face meetings; however,
the advantage is that any member, regardless of where they live, can
participate.

This month, in response to a member's suggestion, we will be looking
at some basics Apple's Pages and Numbers.

The heavyweight competition of Word vs Pages will include

* Pages as both a word processing and page layout app
* Dealing with Fonts, Bullets & Margins

The middleweight competition of Excel vs Numbers will include

* Formatting columns
* Adding extras (

members send in. So, if you have decided not to renew your Microsoft
description, or just want a bit of a refresher, this could be for you.

2 WAMUG SUBSCRIPTIONS

You will remember we postponed the collection of membership fees
until the bank had sorted things out. Well, the saga continues.
Bernard, our new Treasurer, has been working since the middle of
November to trying to sort things out, but there has been something
new to do at every step. Despite a Royal Commission, an Association
Incorporation Act, and a small membership nothing has been easy. The
principle hold up is online access to the WAMUG account. It could be
the middle of February before things are sorted. So please hang onto
your membership until further notice.

Open to hear my final salutation.

[WAMUG} WAMUG membership payment - Just wait

2021-01-03 Thread topsmith

 Hello Fellow WAMUGGERS,

Firstly, of all on behalf of the committee I wish everyone a happy and
improved 2021 and I hope your Christmas season was spent with loved
ones and companions.
Now for the serious stuff.Over the years, governments have put in
place recommendations and laws regarding the operations of banks
throughout Australia Some of these are to ensure criminal networks,
ponzi schemers and the like do not find and exploit loopholes that
allow them to launder money, and do other financial 'bad' things.
What has this to do with WAMUG membership payments.?  And no, I am
not writing this from a beach in the Caribbean.
This year  Peter Botman, resigned from his role as WAMUG Treasurer.
Bernard Barnwell has stepped in to fill WAMUG's financial shoes.
This meant there had to be changes made to the signatories for the
WAMUG account and that has not been as easy as we expected. However,
on the plus side we are finding how difficult it is to fiddle the
books and diddle WAMUG out of its finances.
So as things are still in process ,would you please refrain from
sending in any payments until further notice. This gives us the
opportunity to ensure the change-over is completed to the bank's
satisfaction.
Kind regards,
Maureen Smith

Members Meeting This Tuesday

2020-10-31 Thread topsmith
Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,

The day that stops a nation is fast approaching, and hot on its heels
is the meeting that stops some of us. Yes, this Tuesday is our monthly
WAMUG meeting.

At our last member's meeting the matter of keeping accurate records
of our photos was brought up. A couple of participants mentioned
software that they had been using to make things a little easier. As a
result, this week's meeting will cover the following topics.

* Renaming photos using '_Name Wrangler_'- presented by Peter Smith
* Utilising '_GraphicConverter' _to edit, and import over 200
different graphic-based formats, edit the image, and export it to any
of 80 available file formats. Presented by Peter Hinchcliffe
* And, if we have time, _'Using Automator'_ to rename photos. -
Presented by Peter Hinchcliffe.

Zoom Invitations will be sent to all financial members, with the
room opening at 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm start.

If you have any questions you that need answering bring them up at
the end of the presentations and we will do the best we can to assist.

We are looking forward to seeing you online.

Information for Members.

2020-08-24 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers,

This is your President speaking (I have always wanted to say that!).
This information email covers a number of issues that have arisen
since March and will affect you asa WAMUG member.

AGM

Cover -19 and WA’s State of Emergency and Public Health Emergency
meant we were unable to have our annual AGM in April. Now that most
restrictions have been lifted, and to comply with WA’s Associations
and Clubs

legislation, we will be conducting the 2020 AGM on Tuesday September
1st.

This meeting will take place via Zoom and will comprise the President
and Treasurer’s Reports, as well as the election of committee
members. Generally this does not take long, so the rest of the meeting
will be devoted to the meeting topic of the month. (see below fro
further details)

NOMINATIONS

The WAMUG Committee is calling for nominations for the following
positions.

President

Treasurer

Secretary

Ordinary members.

Previously, most nominations came from members dwelling in our
state's capital city. This was due to Committee and Member meetings
being held in the evenings and in Perth. However, with the decision to
move our meetings into the virtual realm, those restrictions no longer
exist. So we are asking for some new blood on the committee. You
don’t need to be an expert at all things Apple, I definitely am not.
You will need a reliable internet connection and willingness to
‘lend a hand’ to others and be a financial member. If you are
interested please email me off list.

Nominations close on Friday 28th August.

MEMBERS MEETING

When: Tuesday 1st September

Commencing: 7:20 for 7:30pm

Conclude: 8:30pm

Where: Via Zoom video conferencing (voted best video conferencing
software by Choice, July 2020)

Attendees Current financial members of WAMUG

Topics _AGM_

_Planning for your Digital Estate - Introduction_.   Digital
Estate planning its how you prepare so others can deal with your
files, photos, online accounts, emails etc when you are no longer able
to personally handle them. It is quite large topic so it will be
broken down into sections and dealt with over a number of meetings

   _Q & A_

VIDEO CONFERENCING MEETINGS

As you are no doubt aware, the Committee has continued to trial the
use of Zoom for our Member and Committee meetings. Video conferencing
has resulted in more members being able to participate which has been
great to see, as well as putting names to faces and viewing the
variety of virtual backgrounds. At our August Members' meeting we
tried a hybrid format, combining Zoom and in-person attendance. That
didn’t work well. The Zoom attendees found hearing the presenter
difficult and sometimes could not be heard by the in-person
attendees. Our attempts to change this resulted in sound feed back
problems which assaulted of the eardrums of the in-person attendees.
Consequently, as a result of all this trial and error, the committee
has decided to conduct all our meetings via Zoom.

Before each meeting, all financial members will be sent a personal
invitation with login details. You can choose whether to attend not,
but we certainly hope you will.

Thank you to all members who have persevered with us as we have
explored Zoom. We appreciate your efforts.

Keep an eye out for the next Members' Meeting invitation.

Kind Regards,

Maureen Smith

Members Meeting -

2020-08-02 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow Wamuggers,

Our next member's meeting will take place this TUESDAY AUGUST
4TH. We will be attempting our first hybrid meeting. i.e. Combining a
face to face meeting with Zoom

At this point, behalf of the committee, I want to say thank-you the
intrepid Wamuggers who helped the committee explore the intricacies of
Zoom and who showed patience and fortitude when things didn’t go too
well, including screen freezes and boot-outs. The committee has
purchased a license which should eliminate boot-outs and timing
problems but does not take into account that omnipresent factor
-‘Human Error.‘  As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “By
seeking and blundering we learn”

This month’s meeting will OPEN AT 7:30PM FOR A 7:40PM STARt. During
the first half hour we will be looking at the new bits & pieces
associated with the recent upgrades to Pages, Keynote & possibly
Numbers. After that we will take any questions on topics or problems
you might have. If you only want to stay for the presentation that’s
OK. I know some of you are logging in from another time zone.

If you want to participate please indicate via the list and you will
be sent your Meeting ID and Code.

Cheers,

Maureen Smith

Apologies for the late notice. (You just can't get good staff these

at 7:30 pm. The first half hour is a presentation, followed by general
questions.

This month Peter Hinchcliffe will present Art Text 4.  This software
allows you to create sophisticated text effects and typography
graphics for a variety of media. Just might be the thing to take your
presentations and projects to the next level.

Art Text 4 is available on the App Store. Incidentally, the paid
version is currently on offer at 30% discount until July 9. It is not
often you get to see software in action before you decide if it is for

2020-05-31 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers,

This Tuesday, 2 June is the anniversary of the explorers, John and
Alexander Forrest, discovering Weld Springs, an oasis of clear, fresh
water in central Western Australia Like the Forrest brothers who
searched for new routes through the outback so your WAMUG committee is
seeking a better way to bring bring our monthly meetings to “a
computer near you.”

This month’s general meeting will again be held via Zoom. We will
start at 7:30pm and run for 30 minutes.  A  Q will take place
afterwards for those who may have questions.

In this meeting, all going well, we will be looking at Scannable, a
scanning app for iphone & ipad and some uses for Apples’s Notes.
This is a share & learn meeting, so if you also have a great scanning
app or use Notes for something  - well other than recording notes -
we would love you to join in the meeting and share your knowledge.

If you would like to participate please contact me. On Tuesday you
will receive the meeting ID & password.

Kind regards,

AGM Information

2017-04-18 Thread topsmith

Hello fellow WAMUGgers,

While preparing for the upcoming committee meeting  I was going over
the events of the last month, and realised I had not written to the
list to inform you of the voting at the AGM. Well you know what they
say — “No news is good news”.

Firstly I want to thank those members who took the time to
‘elect’ our members using the online link. It was great to see the
involvement and also meant the committee was not developing into an
oligarchy. (Though according to Wikipedia such rule by a small number
of people could include “noble leaders.”  Hee! Hee!)

The committee was unanimously elected and comprises

Maureen Smith - President

Peter Botham - Treasurer

Bernard Barnwell

Peter Hinchcliffe

Peter Smith

During the committee report the following members were mentioned for
their services to WAMUG.

Ronni Brown for her continued support, and willingness to share her
knowledge on the list. The list would be much smaller if hot for
Ronni. The committee sincerely thanks you.

Daniel Kerr for everything he does behind the scenes to keep the list
running. Without his expertise I don’t think we would have a list.
  A huge thanks Daniel

Peter Hinchcliffe for his generosity in sharing so much of his
knowledge at the monthly meetings. The rest of us sit there in awe.
Without him, our Q & A sessions would be primarily Qs!

Also, Lyn Muir, who stays behind after an 8 hour day and opens the
meeting room at Professional Prowest Real Estate, Riverton for our
monthly meetings. She is always so willing to assist. Many thanks.

What this year will bring is yet to be discovered but I hope we
continue to assist and support each other so WAMUG thrives.

Finally, remember, "_I am logged in, therefore I am."_

Cheers,

Maureen Smith

Tuesday's Meeting

2015-06-01 Thread topsmith

Hello Fellow WAMUGers

I hope you have had a relaxing WA Day holiday. Perhaps you have had
time to spend with friends family , or in the garden or tending to
you ‘apples’.

This is a reminder of our meeting tomorrow, it being the first
Tuesday of the month. Topics include Evernote part 2 - where we will
be looking at the benefits of a premium membership. Evernote have
changed their marketing so some information previously given has
changed.

We will also be revisiting Dropbox as there were a few questions from
out last meeting and it seemed to be a fitting time to look at this
canny piece of software.

We will also be looking at scanning apps. How worthwhile are they?

Remember the meeting will be at Professional Prowest Real Estate
building, 175 High Road Willeton. Meeting commences at 7:30pm and
finishes by 9:30. pm.

Remember to bring any tips tricks you have discovered for your your
mac,  iPad, or iPhone.

Hope to see you there.

Committee News

2015-04-05 Thread topsmith

A belated Happy Easter to all WAMUGgers.

I hope each and everyone of you have had a relaxing Easter break and
not eaten too much chocolate. Though I don't understand why so many
dieticians say we should restrict our chocolate eating. After all true
chocolate devotees know that chocolate is a vegetable. It comes from
the cocoa bean and beans are veggies.  And are we not being
encouraged to eat more fruit vegetables???

AGM

Thank you to all who attended the AGM at  the Dome in Vic Park.
Although noisy it was great to eat, drink and catch up ... and we had
sufficient numbers to elect our Committee. YAY

Thanks to Peter Smith who chaired the meeting and kept things moving.

COMMITTEE

* For 2015, your committee members are
* Maureen Smith - President
* Peter Botman - Treasurer
* Peter Smith
* Peter Hinchliffe
* Bernard Barnwell
* Daniel Kerr

CONSTITUTION CHANGES

The continuing shift to a stronger online presence has resulted in
some aspects of our constitution becoming outdated and failing to
reflect the changes in WAMUG’s growth direction. Over the next few
months, the committee will look closely at our constitution in the
light of these changes. Some areas of discussion will include online
voting for committee positions as well as looking at the numbered
needed for a quorum. We will keep you informed all the way.
Ultimately, any changes have to be agreed upon by the members.

MONTHLY MEETING

This Tuesday, 7th April, is Easter Tuesday and many organisations are
still on holidays. Bearing this in mind, THIS MONTH’S MEETING HAS
BEEN SHIFTED TO TUESDAY 14TH APRIL. It will still be held at
Professional Prowest Real Estate building, 175 High Road Willeton
starting at 7.30pm.

This month’s topics include a look at the new Microsoft Office 2016
which will be released late this year. This release promises complete
feature parity between Windows Mac.

We will also be looking at an alternative to the expensive Adobe,
namely Affinity Designer. This software was selected as runner-up in
Apple's Best of 2014 list of App Store and iTunes content, in the
Mac app category. It can open PDF, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and
export to those formats as well as SVG and EPS.

So, if you are interested in designing or improving graphics for
marketing websites Icons etc, this may be the meeting you should
attend.

Cheers,
