No, the mail library created in Lion is not backwards-compatible, but you CAN
use the mail library from the backup you created before you converted to Lion
(you did create that backup, didn't you…?)

Although there's not much we can do about Address Book (and it's really just an
appearance change - all the old features are still there), all the other Lion
issues you mention are optional: you can choose to have scroll bars visible at
all times (although you're stuck with the new minimalist look), you can ignore
full screen mode completely, as you can with most of the other new features in
Lion.

For me, the positives in Lion far outweigh the negatives. For example, on
personal note, it took me some time to get used to Mission Control as opposed
to Spaces in SL, but now I find I take advantage of multiple work spaces far
more than I ever did before Lion.

great

so does this mean, that if we decided to revert to SL on the
macbook, because it syncs via mobile me, that email will all be okay
- we just loose cant read Lion version of mail file.

Not that we are likely to downgrade ( my wife though dislkes Lions
changes to Contacts, disappearing scroll bars, full screen) as we
are going to have to move to iCloud anyway which I understand
requires Lion and iOS5.

Nothing should change from the way it was working when the Macbook was running
SL. The only thing that will change will be the way Mail looks and works on
your Macbook, but that won't affect Mail on the other computers.

 Hi Bill,

First a question: Why delete it when you have it until June 30, 2012?

At least you will have the benefit of MobileMe until then and I'm told you
will be able to have an iCloud account at the same time as your MM
 account, until said date.

The only change I have made so far is to move my MobileMe hosted Website
over to HostingServicesWA (Daniel Kerr Mac Wizardry).

If you still really wish to delete your MobileMe Account:

Have you saved all your files that were stored on your MobileMe iDisk?

If you are still within a paid subscription you can cancel it and get a
 proportional refund by contacting Support.
Go to . Click on 'More Products &
Services' in the left column, then when the centre column populates click
on 'MobileMe'. Choose a category in the third column and click 'Continue’.
In the page which opens select a category and add a description of your
 problem.
Click 'Continue' to be led through support options.

If your subscription has expired and been extended for free you have no
need to cancel but obviously you can delete any items you don't want to be
 on your iDisk etc.

If you cancel your subscription you should do the following first.

• Go to System Preferences>MobileMe>iDisk and if you have turned iDisk
 Syncing on, turn it off.
• Go to System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync and stop all syncing.
• Go to System Preferences>MobileMe and click 'Sign Out'. Remove your
 username and password.

Failure to carry out these steps may result in error messages after the
 account has been cancelled.

Also go to (user)/Library/Preferences/ByHost and delete all plist files
 beginning with com.apple.DotMacSync... Reboot.

If you only have the free 'Find My Phone' account you don't need to cancel
 it, just stop using it.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

That is the Account Name and Password for your MobileMe Account.
If you have never signed up for a MobileMe Account, you DON’T have one.

There is nothing to delete if you have never signed up for a MobileMe Account.

You may not need it, but if you use a template-driven web site kit like Sandvox
or RapidWeaver which allows the creation of pages such as Contact Forms where
visitors can send a message from the page itself, some form of background
scripting is required on the web server to support these. One of the most
popular scripting languages these days is php, and software such as RapidWeaver
relies on it being available. MobileMe does not provide this.

It means that trying to host your domain at MobileMe is going to be a
valuable learning experience!! - unless that is you can your domain name
registrar to make the changes for you. Mine is Melbourne IT and they
wouldn't do it for me.

Put very simply, and this is the extent of my understanding, that when
someone types in www.wamug.org.au the browser goes and searches for the name
www.wamug.org.au in the big internet cohuna's little black book and
alongside that name is the IP address of the actual server that is hosting
that domain name. Then the browser says thank you to the big internet
cohuna, and goes and finds that particular server machine and gets the
information to display to you.

There are a couple of components to the domain name - the viewable web
address, and the email addresses associated with that domain name. I may not
be correct, but the CNAME is the web address and the MX record is the mail
side of things. Entering your domain name at MobileMe is only one part of
the story and AFAIK only sets up their servers ready to accept your domain
name and serve your domain pages correctly.

There are people in ISP and domain registration companies that make these
changes all the time and really know what they are doing. I don't. I was
told I needed to make the changes myself, so used a website called
www.zonedit - link is in my initial posting. I suggest you go there. Create
an account and read their help files. I will be a steep learning curve, but
heck, I managed it so it is not totally impossible. :-)

Hope that helps, and that other more experienced people will guide you much
better than I have.

Tim

Just be aware that MobileMe does not support php, so if you have forms or
anything else that might require php, your site won't work properly.
RapidWeaver, for example, supports MobileMe out of the box, but it also comes
with that warning. I guess this is why iWeb itself does not provide forms of
any sort, probably its major (and fatal, for me) drawback.

Re: mobile me

2009-11-27 Thread Tim Law

I've done as David suggests.

I have pointed my own domain name to my mobileme account and use both
Sandvox and Dreamweaver.

There is a setting in MobileMe to allow you to host your own domain.

The only downside I have is that the MobileMe does not handle the MX record
of domain delegation so you have to find another email host. I use Melbourne
IT as an email provider.

Setting this up was not that straight forward as I had to reset the domain
name records myself using http://zoneedit.com/ to edit my domain record.
This is a drag, and something normally done in a flash by our hosting ISP.
Experienced users who understand what they are doing will have no problem.
It was a bit scary getting into this side of web addressing, but I did it!!
They have good help files.

Loading Sandvox is easy once setup.

Loading Dreamweaver data is not so easy. There may be an easier way, but I
currently manually load the changed files onto my iDisk:Web:Sites: folder.
I'm not too sure how to recreate those settings in Dreamweaver and I also
find opening the iDisk is quite slow to load to view the files and dependent
on connection speed etc.

I don't make many data changes via Dreamweaver, so put up with the
inconvenience of this. Maybe someone can guide me on how to set up
Dreamweave to load to the iDisk.

I find the very large storage quota terrific with no worries of maxing out
my quota. It always seems to work, no one complains they have lost my
websites through server downtime. I already had a MobileMe account so
figured I might as well use the available services.

Hope this helps Martin.

Tim

Re: mobile me

2009-11-27 Thread David Moyle

Afternoon Martin,

I don't personally have a MobileMe but I know a few on the list do so they
might be able to assist.

As far as I understand it is simply a web-hosting location so you could in
theory upload any information from Dreamweaver, Sandvox etc etc.

Great way to get ad-free reliable web-hosting, purchase a cheap .com domain,
point it to your MobileMe space and voila! Public website.

Cheers,

Re: Mobile me question

2008-10-23 Thread Norman Leslie

Hi,

I found the same problem - Steve's solution should fix it. I had
thought that setting the time zone in my account would cover all
applications, but there is a separate one for the Calendar.

Have you got "Time Zone Support" enabled in preferences in the
Calendar section of Mobile Me?

Go to the "gear" icon on the Calendar Page, Click on Preferences,
Click on Advanced
