I didn't see Floyd as being so much immersed in sympathizing with Madeline as I
see Andy breaking the law, taking advantage of a friend by invading the home of
someone who trusted Andy to take care of it. As pointed out on IMDB episode
review - Andy broke the law above breaking the trust of a town resident. Would
you ever trust Andy again with the keys to your home? I sure wouldn't.

Bottom line - there was trust broken and deception among everyone but Opie.

Strange things happening in episodes

2024-09-21 Thread Harriet Browder
Considering that over the number of years the show ran, they had something like
35 writers? It's not unusual to find so many inconsistencies. Like the door to
the left of cell number 2 and multiple Floyds, what year Andy and Barney
graduated, etc.

I also don't believe the writers sat back and said to themselves, "Hey, lets
write confusing episodes, no one will ever see these shows after the summer
reruns so it doesn't matter how we write them, right?"

TAGS on TDVD Show

2022-11-19 Thread Harriet Browder
Too funny…story about what if Don Knotts had shown up on Dick Van Dyke Show
instead of Danny Thomas? If you’ve never seen “It may look like a walnut”
episode on The DVD Show, the rest of this will go right over your head (quote
Barney).

Danny Thomas Popped up on the "Dick Van Dyke Show’s Classic "Walnut" Episode on
ME TV Well, what if Barney Fife had shown up Instead?
Incredible as that sounds, this blurb from the September 22, 1962 edition of
the syndicated "TV Scout" newspaper column contains the tantalizing suggestion
that Carl Reiner may have at least toyed with the idea of involving both Don
Knotts AND Andy Griffith in an earlier draft of his classic sci-fi parody. I
suspect it was a fleeting notion that was soon forgotten. Or perhaps last
minute schedule issues forced an eleventh hour rethink that prompted Danny
Thomas to step into the role? Either way, breathes there a fan of either series
who wouldn't pay a considerable sum to see Deputy Barney go toe to toe with Rob
Petrie, armed only with a sack of walnuts!
Here's the text of that item as it appeared in newspapers on September 22, 1962:
TV SCOUT September 22, 1962
The cast of The Dick Van Dyke Show is talking about a particularly wild episode
Carl Reiner has written for the show’s second season.
“According to what I have heard,” Mary Tyler Moore told TV Scout, “Dick has a
dream in which everyone looks like a walnut and talks like Andy Griffith or Don
Knotts. We’ll either win an Emmy for the show, or they’ll put Carl Away
Permanently.”

Perry Mason

I love spotting TAGS actors on Perry Mason. Sometimes I’ll yell at the TV, “Hey
Chuck!” (Willis Bouchey plays a judge in 23 episodes) or “Mr. Jack…son!”
(Richard Bull Bill Lindsay), or “Hey Andy, it’s that college kid.” (Ruta Lee)
Or “Aunt Bee, just call the man.” That last one is The Case of The (or TCOT)
Crimson Kiss. Francis Bavier plays an aunt and comes to visit her niece who is
getting married. She finds her niece and niece’s roommate passed out on their
beds. They had consumed some poison. The Aunt calls Perry (see how often
characters appear in town and already KNOW Perry Mason). Perry tells her to
stand by, he’s sending over his personal doctor. Why she didn’t “Just call the
man” and dial for an ambulance. The two girls could have died in the amount of
time to call Perry, get his advice and “stand by”.

My favorite shout out confession is with Dabbs Greer (in 8 Perry episodes) and
J. Pat O’Malley (We’re pooling our resources). Dabbs stands up in the courtroom
and yells “Yes, I killed the big gas bag.” Hilarious.

Trivia - Perry Mason character before TAGS

A post on the Perry Mason page….or in Floyd’s words – The things you don’t know.

Today's episode "The Case of the Frantic Flyer" features a character named
Andrew "Andy" Taylor which was aired just five weeks before The Danny Thomas
Show episode "Danny Meets Andy Griffith" in which Sheriff Andy Taylor of
Mayberry (played by Andy Griffith) made his television debut.

PS – the character of Andrew Taylor is found dead at the beginning of the show,
so don’t expect to see a credit in IMDB. No actor played Taylor.

I agree. We should all give Ted Koppel the big freeze. He waited till he had a
captive audience (trolley riders) and then asked for hands to show Trump or

reminded him that they were in Mt Airy for Mayberry, not a political poling
jag. Sad that it had to take on that tone. He didn’t speak to anyone from
Surry Arts, or any of the tribute artists. It was all about his posturing and
making out like he had his feet planted right on Main Street. Aunt Bee knows
how to treat people like that. Let’s set up a thin rope across the street about

plentiful home wet bars unlocked. You’ll go into shock at how simple life was
at one time. But try to bring yourself back to reality and remind yourself that
lessons that were imparted on the show and the fact that stories were not
restricted to sanitizing affects, kids still learned lessons. We could dig
ourselves a hole trying to analyze why women weren’t taken seriously (think
Aunt Bee and her “gang” retaliating when the men wanted to get their nails
trimmed by the “sexy” new lady at Floyds). We haven’t reached that level so

TAGS actors on Perry Mason

2021-06-07 Thread Harriet Browder
I’m hooked on Perry Mason. Get it about half dozen times a day between channels
MeTV and FeTV. Our shoplifter turned proud wife Lurene Tuttle is the defendant
4 times and questionable other characters many more. Good Ole Mr. O’Malley, as
in “Hey Chuck!” is a judge 23 times. But my favorite Mason character is Dabbs
Greer. He plays many characters and when he’s the killer, he delivers my
favorite whining confession. “Yes, I killed the big gas bag.”

You’d be surprised at the TAGS actors on Perry Mason. Francis Bavier is a
doting “Aunt”, unlike her bad guy role in westerns. Also, last night we see the
ever present in Mason cases Stuart Erwin, Tom Silby. And Anna Belle Silby,
Lurene Tuttle has played bad guy, victim and accused…even a shoplifter (Who
knew???). MeTV claims to have created a list of Perry Mason Stars Before They
Were Stars. Well, no, actors like Ken Curtis (Festus on Gunsmoke) started his
career 20 years before he pops up as an accused on Perry Mason.

I love Willis Bouchey (Mr. O’Malley….or Hey Chuck) as the judge overseeing many
cases. Casey Adams, from the Horse Trader episode is in many as well.

Yes, I agree with Paul – don’t put much stock in MeTV claims. They’ll even flip
a photo to make some useless point.

For those who want to start spotting TAGS links on Perry Mason – it airs at 9am
ET weekdays on MeTV and again late at night. And on FeTV it airs back to backs
at 4pm ET weekdays and again at 8 and 9pm ET weekdays.

I’ve been hooked on Perry since it came to MeTV and FeTV. Amazing, the number
of actors that appear in both. My favorite confession is by Dabbs Greer. “Yes,
I killed the big gas bag!” Priceless. His appearances include being a
murderer, victim and an innocently accused. He pulls off a drunk act that could
easily rival Otis Campbell on a bad night.

Bavier is in one, and bless her heart, she’s not accused or the killer, unlike
when she’s in a western. That toughened up “warden” style in her really shines
as a bad gal. Ruta Lee is in several as well as Sue Ane Langdon and Julie
Adams. Julie starts out being sent to prison to await execution (Perry loses)
and is quite afraid of Wednesdays, 10AM to be exact, as most take place at that
time and day. Perry pulls off his usual tricks, shutting down “Immaterial,
incompetent and irrelevant” objections. Guess when she’s released.. Yep.,. A

Perry Mason. My favorite line is from Dabbs Greer - "Yes! I killed him. I
killed the old gas bag!"

Mayberry is everywhere

I watch The Untouchables reruns on Sunday afternoons and love spotting Mayberry
buildings. Almost every episode has at least one scene with courthouse in
background, or a business you mentioned, as well as The Grand and the hotel and
even the Taylor house.

Harriet, the chicken thief, thinking of joining up with Mr. Ness so I can tool

Using a hankie

2020-11-22 Thread Harriet Browder
When Barney and Aunt Bee thought Andy and Helen were planning to get married.
Both end up weeping together on the couch. Did either use a hankie?

Did Aunt Bee use a hankie when she was listening to a radio soap opera and
changing sheets on a bed ( Keeper of the Flame). "MEN!"

We can assume Barney used a hankie when we hear him sniffling in the "back
room" at the courthouse. Refresh my memory for the episode name - probably more
than a once, knowing how emotionally sensitive Barney is.

The word Darlings can be a noun or an adjective. I have no idea what the movie
was about but I bet it was an adjective, as in, maybe, grandchildren???

Yes, she was Morgan's wife in Andy and the New Mayor. Funny how similar the
Baldwin Ladies are to the Morrison Sisters but almost a decade apart in episode
airings.

TAGS links on The Waltons

2020-09-26 Thread Harriet Browder
> The Waltons on Friday noticed two alumni from TAGS.

We get the lovely presence of Ellen Corby (Hubcaps Lesh) as Grandma Walton.
Also, Denver Pyle shows up to steal the Baldwin Ladies' whiskey and moonshine
machine, Mary Jackson (Parnell Grigsby's wife) is a moonshining maker but
thinks of it as "the recipe", Ron Howard plays Jason's friend Seth, and many
others I can't recall since I don't have my bucket with me. Two connections
removed - Ron's sister on Happy Days, Erin Moran, shows up as a singer.

The town named Mayberry

> how did they come up with Mayberry?

There is a town named Mayberry. It exists in Virginia. It is also the town
where Andy Griffith's mother was born. I'm sure it had a lot of influence.
We've discussed the store with the big Gulf sign in front. It is just up the
street from the Mayberry Church. I've been to both. I have pictures/

Rimshaw house

Yes, it's the Munster's house also... among others. Like the Bates house in
Psycho. It moves from movie to movie and TV show to TV show. Sometimes B/W,
sometimes color. If you watch enough old western TV series, you'll see the same
train, no matter if it's pulling into Laramie or Dodge City or the Ponderosa or
Big Valley.

Mr. McBeevee

Notice, when he climbs down the pole, he gets into a truck. But, somebody
has to string the wires TO the telephone poles and on to other poles, and not
let the wires get all jumbled up in the trees. They may seem nice and full
and all that jazz, but bigger or smaller, the wires have to go thru.. 🙂

Mayberry Court House on The Untouchables

2020-07-12 Thread Harriet Browder
I've recently gotten hooked on the old Untouchables series, on Sunday
afternoons, mini marathons, channel Hero's and Icons. Today, I sat upright and
bounced on the couch when the Mayberry Sheriff's office and courthouse suddenly
appeared. This episode aired before TAGS was even introduced.

Check out the episode The Empty Chair, aired 10-15-59. I have not heard or read
about any connections with the show The Untouchables so I'm curious if anyone
else has spotted the court house in that series? The exterior court house
shows up about 4-5 minutes into the episode.

Please tell me my eyes are not playing tricks on me. I can't afford to lose my
vision. 🙂

Re: Silent scene and TAGS characters in Western Series

2020-06-28 Thread Harriet Browder
> That maybe 20 second scene is totally silent, except for the background

In High Noon in Mayberry, when Andy is listening to the footsteps leading to
the door. The doorbell buzzer tone was timed by someone - probably Paul (the
real Mayberry guru) Mulik, I don't remember how long the tone is held but long
enough to be counted as a "silent moment".

PS - Anyone notice how often Leo Gordon (Luke Comstock) appears in TV Westerns?
From good guy to bad guy he's everywhere, practically in every single western
series made for TV. Also, Mr. McBeeve (Karl Swenson) appears often enough to
rival Leo's appearances. Mostly Karl is sporting a beard and hard to recognize
until he speaks.
