What a co-inky-dink!! On Gunsmoke yesterday there was Aneta Corsaut as a Nun
and TAGS comes on right after that but that one was before Helen...but she did
show up before the series was over for the day!
We are seriously considering a trip to Mayberry Days again next year. Can't
promise, can't say for sure at this point, but sure would look forward to it so
we can see all our old friends again! If the car holds together, we'll set a
record of some kind. We went from 2000 - 2015sixteen trips to Mayberry Days
plus extra trips in between! So don't tell me American cars ain't as good as
them Foreigners! Plus we have been up Pilot Mountain at least 15 times in it!
So we'll go again soon to get rid of our stuff for the silent auction, get a
pork chop sandwich, visit a few stores like Mayberry on Main and some more, and
just enjoy the day!
Happy Motoring and take a lot of photos along the way!

2017-08-11 Thread Bentle, Margaret
To the people to do not like Helen's attitude, think about how sometime you
could be a bit testy when you don't get your way.
I know that I can get a little peeved at people when they don't do what needs
to be done. Then they turn it around on me and say that I have a bad attitude.
Usually I try to shrug off the bad attitude comment and go on about my business.

A few weeks ago three teenagers parked in my yard and I had to ask them to move
their car.
They said that they didn't realize that they had parked on my property (three
feet of grass and a fence gate).
Before they moved the car I told them that they needed to respect the
neighborhood and to park in the paid parking area behind the restaurant's down
the street.
Some woman who just happened to be walking down the street called me a feisty
old woman. I was just sticking up for myself and my property.
The restaurant's didn't come into the neighborhood until a tornado hit my part
of town in 1998. The parking has gotten worse and the people going to the
restaurants' and shops are very rude.
So as you can see I can understand Helen's attitude and sometimes wanting her
own way.

The one time Helen didn't stick up for herself and neither did Andy was at
Howard's house party and she had to dance with Goober, Howard and Andy, then
Emmitt.

Okay that is my rant for the day.

I've been watching the seventh season on DVD and I would like to pose something
I noticed while watching the episode, "Helen, The Authoress". Helen and Andy
are heading to meet the publisher in Richmond and the scene transitions from
the Taylor living room to Richmondor does it? A city is shown in the
transition, but I'm certain the city show is not Richmond, but instead
Charleston, South Carolina. Give me your thoughts. I may be off my rocker,

Helen the Authoress

2006-08-22 Thread Ken Anderson
Seeing I am in the process of having a book published I decided to watch
"Helen the Authoress" last night. I must admit I am going through some of
the same anxieties Helen experienced. There are so many things to do and
think about, I find most of my time is spent on my book and I am not having
time for my wife. Very similar to Helen and Andy. However, my wife is very
understanding, so I don't think things will get nearly as bad as they did
for Andy and Helen.

I would like to mention to any of you who may be considering doing a book,
that we have an excellent person among us could help you greatly. When I
decided to go with Westview Publishing, I requested to have Kathryn Darden
be my author representative. In case you have forgotten, Kathryn put
together the delightful book "A Tribute to Mayberry". I have a number of
poems in her book. Kathryn will be having two Book Signings at Mayberry Days
of Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 24 at Page's Book Store.

For more information you can check out
http://www.christianactivities.com/mayberry/story.asp?ID=5862 Kathryn
hopes to have copies of my book with her if they are ready by then.
Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend Mayberry Days this year.

So if you are considering a book in the future, be sure to request Kathryn
as your author representative. She does a fantastic job with publicity
packages for inspirational and/or Christian books, and I am sure she would
be more than happy to help anyone get started.

I bought TAGS Season 5 on DVD yesterday, the day of its release, February 14
(Valentines Day). I thought it fitting that the release date falling on
Valentines Day was all the more ironic when, lo and behold, the first episode
I
watched was 'Opie Loves Helen' an episode with a love theme. Ronny Howard
later guest starred on the 'Love, American Style' episode "Love and the Happy
Day", the pilot for 'Happy Days.' In the last scene, Andy, with Helen by his
side, explains to Opie that one day he and Helen may marry. (That would prove
true four years to the month later on 'Mayberry R.F.D.') In reality, though, I
believe that Aneta Corsaut's Valentine might have been writer Jim Fritzell. I
would like to see the chalkboard writing there.

I agree, Andy's demeanor did change greatly in the color episodes.
There is one episode where he is asking about Opie, Andy asks
Aunt Bee, "Where's the boy"?  Opie comes in and leans back against the
kitchen door, as if in fear.  That upset me, and I knew then Andy was not
happy.

I think Warren was a fun character, he wasn't Barney, but he was funny,
and I enjoyed him.  I think they gave Jack Burns a bum rap, they could
have given him more time to endear the audience with the new Warren character,
but chose not to.

By this time, I was no longer enjoying Helen either.  She changed drastically
from the black and white episodes.  Except for one black and white episode
where she was
jealous that the family friend was visiting, who was upset about a broken
engagement. Helen behaved badly in this episode, I thought.  She was both
insensitive and rude.

Thelma Lou was always a delight!

Debaters and defending Helen

2008-01-20 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Neil Bentley, you noted some fine political debates, Thank you!!

Yes Aunt Bee did do a good job then, and also as someone mentioned, in
the Mr. Frisbee Eviction informal debate with Andy. (Aunt Bee the
Crusader). She had several good debates with Andy. One of them ended
with him saying "Call the Man!"

Barney was a great relentless debater also. Remember the Motorcycle
episode? He just seemed to wear Andy down...like he did with his
slingshot in the courthouse debate.

Now I'll tell you another good debater. Helen Crump! With that in
mind, let me comment on this post.

>>anyone know any personal info on the lady that played Helen Crump,
Anita Corsette (spl?). I haven't googled her, but I've never seen much
about her personally. I must admit, I never liked her character much,
and felt Andy could have had a nicer girlfriend. She always seemed to
be in a bad mood. My ex wife was like that a lot!!<<<<

Ttown, buddy it sounds like you've got some issues there, but lets not
take it out on Helen Crump, OK. As a man (I shave and wear aftershave)
I used to think Helen was kind of grouchy also...BUT if you watch
carefully, most of the times she was upset, Andy deserved it. Like
when he lied to her about Lee Drake, or the Fun Girls, or Gloria, or got
out of shape because of her attention as an author, or when she beat
him at bowling and her niece beat Opie at sports, need I go on? I do
think Andy was on more solid ground with Frank, and why she was sitting
on the same side of the booth with him, after working on that blamed
gradin manual, but most of the time, Andy made mistakes we guys all
make, and deserved a little anger. If you'll remember the same thing
happened with Ellie (when he thought she was on the hunt for him and he
tried to pawn other guys off on her) and Peg (when Opie's little games
caused a rift, and when he thought the fact that she was rich would be a
problem) and even Karen, Thelma Lou's cousin, because he expected he to
be a stereo-typical women, instead of a better shooter than him.

Aneta Corsaut has a modest but impressive list of TV and Movie
Appearances. Cancer ended her life too soon, before she could enjoy
the adoration of Mayberry fans that many of the stars did and continue
to.

>>>Helen "gets her back up" about Andy using the term "run with" but never

>>>sitting on the same side? I certainly would want an explanation.<<<

Brenda, I watched that episode not long ago, and I thought the same thing.
Sitting on the same side of the booth implies some intimacy that should not
have been there, and if I were Andy, I wouldn't have liked it, either! Helen
should have recognized that and should have offered an explanation to Andy,
such as, "Frank just sat down beside me. What could I do?" She was a little
too offended about that, which would seem to indicate, if not guilt on her
part, at least perhaps some unspoken attraction to Frank that she didn't want
to admit.

In some of the TAGS storylines, it's apparent that the writers have had the
characters do or say things that aren't necessarily logical or even true to
themselves for the purpose of creating a conflict that will drive a story.
There is no story without conflict, but the key is to create believable
conflict. The conflict is this episode was believable except for that one
detail. It's easier to talk to someone when you are face to face, so the only
reason for sitting side by side is for closer physical contact.

I know, I know, I'm probably over analyzing things, but, as Barney would say, I
can't take any credit for it--that's just how my mind works.

I don't recall Andy ever proposing to Helen, though there may have been

But really, when did Andy ever pop the question? Closest I can remember is

There is, a very young Gary Coleman has an uncredited part in an early scene
of "Blazing Saddles."

As for Aneta, the only place a tourist could appear would be those quick tour
scenes before and after they enter the cafeteria. She would've been covered
with pies and other food when she left.

Helen gets her back up

2008-03-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Speaking of Helen, I always thought she "got her back up" rather easily.
Especially that color show when she was working with the male teacher that came
to the school. Why where they sitting on the same side of the booth at the
diner anyway? She never did answer that when Andy mentioned it. She just shot
back at Andy and got mad at him for asking that. Then they made up and kissed.
But, I still want to know, why did they sit together on the same side of the
booth?
It's Helen Crump-C-R-U-M-P!

Helen at Mother / Student Function

2009-02-05 Thread bcunnin107

My sister vows up and down she remembers the following episode but I do not
remember it:Opie has a mother/student function at school.Helen volunteers to
accompany him.While at the function,Helen wins a prize,for what I do not
know.Does anyone remember this episode, and if so,what is the episode title?

I don't remember this. But, I would think Aunt Bee might get a shot at going
too.. Could this have been an RFD episode?

re: Andy & Helen Getting Married?

2010-12-07 Thread PLV
Sharon, more & more married women went to work outside the home as the '50s
ended and the '60s began. But I think in smaller towns there existed a certain
stigma about women who chose that role. I distinctly remember my paternal
grandmother, who lived in a small Iowa town, "tsk, tsk"ing with a group of her
fellow housewives about a neighbor who had gone to work in my grandfather's
office, even though she didn't "have to work". That was something I remember
hearing from lots of housewives as I was growing up in the '50s. It was a sort
of domestic badge of honor to be so completely supported by your husband that
if you didn't have to work, why on earth would you want to. Pretty much why I
decided, at about age 10, that I never wanted to be a housewife! I couldn't
then, nor can I now, fathom dependency in an adult as anything to be desired.

HistoryBuff

===
One of the episodes I watched today was the one about Andy and Helen rumored to
get married.
Now at the end, Andy clarifies that it wasn't the right time. Helen concurs
and says she's spent so much time learning, and she wants to teach for a while.
Is that how it was 'back in the day'? Married women didn't work outside the
home at all?

Thanks,

Helen Getting Married and Teaching

2010-12-07 Thread Ken Anderson
Probably the biggest contributing factor to women wanting to be in the work
force was World War 2 when millions of American women entered the work
force, mainly in factories, to help fill the need for workers when war
production was at full force and most of America's young men were in the
military. When the war ended many of the women did not want to give up the
money they had come to enjoy and also their new found independence. I
always thought too that it was a bit strange that Andy and Helen couldn't
get married and continue to both work. After all they were not young kids,
Andy being in his 30's and Helen probably being somewhat younger. But it
was also very common back then for most women teachers to be married. On
the other hand, I remember when I was a child back in the late 50's and
early 60's, my mother was the only mom who worked among all my friends'
families, except for my good friend Dan's mother, and you guess it, she was
a teacher.

Anita Corsaut played Malloy's girl friend during the last season and was in
several episodes. She also had a recurring role as a judge on Matlock. On
another note, I was watching an episode of Adam-12 from the 1st season and
who should be in it but Melody (Charlene Darling) Patterson.

Thanks for reminding me that Aneta Corsaut appeared as a judge on
MatlockI had forgotten about that! I'm also a big fan of that show.
I'm not sure if the actress Larry was referring to was Charlene Darling's
portrayer, Margaret (Maggie) Peterson, or if he was thinking of the female
lead on F-Troop, Melody Patterson. Both are blonde, and look very similar.
Also, it's ironic that their names sound so much alike!
It's really fun to hear about the many regular and character actors from
TAGS can be seen on so many other shows!
Keep up the good work, and long live TAGS!

Helen Crumps Non De Plume

2011-06-06 Thread Lou Tarnopol
Well my wonderful wife for the last 48 years has lately been thinking of
changing her first name from Helaine to Lainey even though I tried to
convince her that great and creative people think that the name is upper
class.

The professional book publishers believed that or why else would they want
to change Helen Crump to Helaine Alexia Dubois.

After expending my best efforts, going so far as trying to convince her to
put the bucket on her head and just thank about it, she handed me the
bucket and said ,"just call me Lainey".

I guess I will wear the bucket and see if I can thank of some thing other
than Louis, even though it has served me for well over 70 years.

Helen Sighting and Claude Akins

2013-03-18 Thread Larry Hamrick
Hey, Mayberry friends. I just watched our favorite teacher, Helen Crump, (Aneta
Corsaut), playing a nun on Gunsmoke. Claude Akins played a featured character
in this episode from 1967. Mr. Akins was a popular tough guy/heavy from the
era. I wonder why he never showed up on TAGS?

When my daughter was a child (she turns 41 this week, she'll appreciate me
saying that), we gave her a pair of parakeets. She named them Barney and Andy,
but we never knew if they were boys or girls. A diet of biscuits and honey kept
them from flying very well, too.

Frank Smith moving on Helen

2021-11-22 Thread H S
I can see Andy getting jealous over Frank Smith, but what really would have
taken the cake me would have been seeing Frank Smith sitting beside Helen in
the diner. They weren't looking over paperwork or anything. Now maybe I'm old
fashioned but it's my understanding that if you're sitting beside a gal in a
booth it means yall are more than just friends. Andy brought this up to Helen
on the porch in his rant. I was not surprised while Helen was defending her
point of view that she did not touch base on that fact which in turn made it
more obvious that sitting beside Frank Smith was wrong. If I had walked in on
my gal sitting beside Frank Smith at the diner, Well that's all I'm going

Anyone know any personal info on the lady that played Helen Crump, Anita
Corsette (spl?). I havent googled her, but I've never seen much about her
personally. I must admit, I never liked her character much, and felt Andy
could
have had a nicer girlfriend. She always seemed to be in a bad mood. My ex
wife was like that a lot!! I think he should have stuck with Peg, or
Ellie
Walker, or even charlene. I was IN LOVE with Charlene when I was growing up
(I'm 52 now). Turns out Maggie isnt that much older than me, SO,
Charlene/Maggie, I know you are married, but I would marry you in a second.
Oh yea,
and Ellie, I'd marry you too! We may have to move to Utah so I could have two
wives.

(S)Andy's fiance - did I miss the episode where he formally proposed
Granted I don't watch the colored episodes much, but I don't remember if he
did. One more thing - I grew up in the 50's, but in a community very much

I thinkand I've been doing a lot of thinking with my bucket on, that "I
want to moveI never get to move" is from Season 1, when Mayberry
celebrated The Apricot Festival. Someone on the celebration committee moved
to use balloons instead of paper lanterns or something of that sort.
In regard to opposites like "pretty ugly" or "jumbo shrimp" I think that's
called an oxymoron. (Not to be confused with a Nazi Moron!)

Re: Helen Crump is not a grump

2017-08-07 Thread Harriet Browder
> When she was first introduced to the show she was rather a humble, lady-like

The brief introduction to Helen was in the classroom where she discovered the
boys were taking their direction from Opie who was taking his direction from
Andy with regards to the history of this country, and dates and stuff. While
she may have been quite meek in the classroom, you can't say she was "rather
humble" or "lady-like" as she really did give the devil to Andy in the court
room, even causing Barney to take a step back as she stormed out. And Andy's
only comment was "See that foot? How can that great big foot, all of it, fit in
my mouth?"

I won't comment on the rest of her appearances as we all have different
feelings on whether she was lady-like or a witch..and we know very well,
that only shows with some controversy are going to keep watcher's attention. If
every character was as sweet as we wish them all to be, there's not much of a
story line to create. She was quite lady-like in the reunion movie and that's
the Helen I'll remember.

Regarding the fact that she should have been upfront with Andy about her
undercover work in college, she had no idea he was doing a background check on
her at the time. However, as fast as rumors spread in Mayberry I'm surprised
the school board was able to keep all that information under their hats for
long, with those wagging tongues of theirs.

Frank and Helen sitting on the same side

2010-01-07 Thread kim
I always suspected that Frank did have some designs on Helen, and maybe Andy
suspected it also. Notice he is on the outside of the booth, meaning Helen
sat down and he slid in next to her. Also when they come over to Andy's for
dinner, Frank escorts Helen to the table with his hand on her back - as one
would do a date. And I suspect he did intentionally show off a bit, he
could have politely refused to play the guitar. Ummm, h - something
was up.

around the corner and starting to walk down the aisle.
I would like to see it again, does anybody have a link to it?
Saw the Mayberry Gazette society reporter on The Dick Van

telling Aunt Bee, it would be the social event of the season

Frank Smith. Ok so your Helen Crumps teacher friend from Raleigh. No big deal

worldly ways. Why were you sitting on the same side of the dinner table at the
diner with Helen ? You and Helen were supposed to be working at the school. No
books or work to be looking over seen at the diner, so why are you sitting next

Andy even mentioned you being on the same side of the table to Helen to her,
