They played the Majestic Theatre on one of their tours--just after they
released the last double pack I think. I definitely had to wear
earplugs
Well, I'm not sure if the word is on the street, but Rick Wilhite told
me on Saturday that the 3 Chairs are doing an after-party at the old
Serengeti Ball Room on Monday night. I should think that will be hot!

Detroit. Call

Bellevue and the C2/Derrick May/Kenny Larkin party at St. Andrews?
Anyone catch these?

Haven't seen it yet but they were filming in Detroit last winter (2004-05)
for a couple of weeks. I thought it was to be released in 06 but I guess
they had most of it done by the time they came here. I think they did a

I saw them in Detroit on Friday. I also hope they put out a DVD of the
tour--what incredible visuals. We staked out a spot right in middle and
about 10 feet from the stage at the State Theater. When the Tour de France
visuals came on it was like you were on a bike in the Pyrenees--holy sh*t!

Rick Wilhite had Sound Signature whites of 18 - 22. He said that the new 18
is different but I didn't listen to it. The two SS records that I listened
to--one by Billy Lo and one by Marcellus P.--were hot. I decided I wanted
to wait on the final product though. I did however pick up the KDJ 33
Yeh, Fabrice really delivered. He played some gems--Omar S, Day toward the
beginning which he brought in very slowly through a dense filter before he
opened it up and it run for several minutes; then later he mixed Shades of

Monday was the highlight for me. 2:30 am - Osunlade, worth the wait. 3:30
am - Ron Trent, excellent as always. 4:30 am - Suburban Knight, playin' all
kinds of crazy white labels. 6pm - Kenny Larkin, kickin' James Brown for
the breakers. 7pm - Octave One, Ann Saunderson sings Somedays and Black
I missed Kenny this time but I know he's going strong. I was able to pick up
a white label (KDJ 33) at Rick Wilhite's shop--he's back to his old tricks
with the cut up disco loops and KDJ weirdness on the flip.
Shouts to IU -- my alma mater!

that Car City Records in St. Clair Shore is
great. And of course Record Time in Roseville and Ferndale are always
excellent spots. Good luck.

I've lost the email that contained

years not to realize how big the festival has become for Detroit.
