Sony's NetMD stuff was pants but found a cool (and cheap!) product that allows
you to get ripped/downloaded/streaming audio from your PC to MD without having
to upgrade your MD
an aussie company xitel produces a USB
I guess the advantage of the NetMDs is that you can record to them at 32x
speed, whereas with the Xitel MDPort-DG2 its just a straight digital
connection which you can only record to in realtime.

I don't know about the analog-digital
however, you cant record .wav files with it which
i know you can do with other Archos products, it only goes up to
320 kbs VBR mp3 recording. which is still pretty good, just
not .wav
I could be wrong, but isn't 320 kbs more or less uncompressed? So the sound
quality should be up there with
320k is less compressed than say, 128k.
320k makes for a big file, but it sounds nice.

Just looked into Minidisc and it apparently has a built in compression
method which compresses a 74 minute CD
One cautionary word of advice though. If you hope to record to
minidisc,
then dump the song into NetMD, this will not work b/c of copy
protection
measures, so you actually need to do it analogue-style. I was a bit
disappointed by that.
And that is precisely when and where Sony dropped the

Agreed, I got a xone:32 for around 400 and it seems really nice and
solid too - having a filter on the mixer is quite a cool and worthwile

but it wasnt really a prob once Id got going with the
A/H.

The Tascam X-9 is finally out as of about maybe 6 months ago
after pending
release for nearly 18 months I think? It offers the most features at a
comparable price to the 600/Xone:62. The idea of dual effects and dual
samplers assignable to any combination of inputs is pretty
amazing to me.

My choice in a few months
I love both the Xone's and the Pioneer 5/600's. They are the best mixers
I've used. And then there are the rumors about the 700 that have been
kicking around for a few months. Nothing on Pioneer's site yet that I can
find.
I am happy with my DJM-600 from pioneer. But they could have made the
they are

Cheers,

Maarten,
You're talking about the equivalent of a 'cueing crossfader' on the Pioneer
600. It's just a knob on the Pioneer's and on some other models.
Otherwise you will have a crossfader that blends from cue to master. Most
mixers will have this option - not all. If you're mixing in a club, I'd

Yes, thanks. I think I found a decent looking Numark 3 channel scratch mixer.
I do have one other question that I recently asked on the 313techknow list:
Until recently my turntables were connected to my PC via a set of long RCA
cables so I could record directly to hard drive. I just moved and
I don't know about the analog-digital conversion but a DAT is probably way
out of my price range. I use Macs for all of my sound-related stuff as
well. I was thinking more along the lines of a CD burner which hooks up to
RCA cables or a portable WAV recorder or something like that.
Thanks.
