what i don't understand is, doesn't this mean that if you do a podcast
you're wide open for the RIAA/BPI to come in a take you to the cleaners?

any other medium is covered. So if you have payed your licenses,

false. there is a small webcaster clause. i run a 24x7 audio webcast
with as many as 1000 unique listeners a day but pay under $600/year to
license broadcast
... oh, and don't get me wrong. I'm not exactly a fan of the state of
copyright today -- it's unfair and geared towards business, not
humans.. but at least it is possible to be both small time AND legit
without entering bankruptcy.
