Oh, I should note, that acpi -bs shows:
Battery 1: slot empty
That is untrue, the battery is definitely there. :)
Also, I should note, that this worked up to 2.6.23 or 2.6

I can confirm every word of Zygfryd. My GX700 has absolutely the same behavior.
