We have a display status as well. It functions differently than a shelving
location. If an item is in the display status, it stays in that status until

Unless I'm overlooking a permission, I believe you're correct. I think it is
only tied to permission apply_workstation_setting, which also allows staff to
set other workstation preferences.

We’ve implemented this. We let people know beforehand, and have used it as a
way, #1 to remind libraries to be actively managing their staff accounts and #2
hold individuals with continuing ed requirements (generally catalogers)
accountable for staying current on those requirements.
