It depends. Most restore programs (including GNU tar) have an option
that makes it "do the right thing", i.e. files that were
Hi,
I compiled about 4 years ago on SunOS machine.
Now I want to transfer the SCSI tape to a Linux
machine (Mandrake 7.2). I've compiled amanda 2.4.2p2,
copied tapelist from the old machine, and created the
disklist and the config file (amanda.conf). When I try
to run amcheck, I get the following
Never had to do a complete file system restore
so forgive the naivety of this question.
If one restores from a full backup plus
one or more daily incrementals, files that
were deleted after the full backup would
be retained during the restore. Correct?
I mean, the daily incrementals don't track
i'm new to the list, so sorry if this has been asked and answered (i checked
the archives first).

Give the following patch a try. It won't fix anything, but will sort
out the debug file lines so you can tell which process is doing what.
When maxdumps is
The advfs patch did the trick. Thanks for the rapid responses!
Teach me to forget to check the patch listings.

We don't run HACMP here, but I talked with our AIX guru a few minutes
and, depending on an infinite number of variables :-), he thinks Amanda
should work fine.

If I understood your question correctly, yes.
In (very) general terms, it gathers estimates for a full dump, the
same level as last time and (sometimes) the next level. Then it uses

The short answer is "no".
The longer answer is that this is harder than you might think. In the
general case, Amanda would have to send the image b

This is a weird one.

Hello everyone,
I know this tends to be a stereotypical and repeating type of

Hi,
I've trouble with my Seagate Scorpion 40 (DDS4) on a Linux box. New
cartridges (Sony DGD150P) are not recognized. The tape is loaded
normally. Even after 5 minutes "mtst -f /dev/nst0 status" says density
code 0 and not "online". Of course other mt(st) commands fail with
"i/o error" as does "a

Albrecht,
Onstream went out of buisness approximately 9 months ago. I would not
bet on continued cartridge support.

Hi John,
Thanks for the help and the invaluable tools. I managed to get the
amcheck to run successfully and it seemed that the last compile didn't
detect /sbin/dump. I re-ran the steps for cleaning and recompiling again and
it was ok after this. I must have slipped up somewhere with the second

to work. I'm using

Hi,
I'm just looking for a new tape for my amanda setup at home (currently

if it works with amanda. There where only some problem reports regarding
