Please help a newbie!
I put in the line
UNCOMPRESS *.gz (D:\analog\gzip -cd)
When attempting to run it, I get the following:
D:\path: analog version 4.16/Win32
F: Closing ... analog.cfg
F: Opening lang/uk.lng ...
F: Closing ...lang/uk.lng
F: Opening lang/ukdom.tab ...
F: Closing ... lang/ukdom.t
i have downloaded version 4.03 and i
cannot get analog to uncompress my *.gz files.
i used the UNCOMPRESS *.gz, but it didn't
work. i get a fatal error saying "failure to open configuration file
analog.cfg: ignoring it"... then it goes on to say it can't find a language file
and so forth.
I have successfully upgraded from 3.32 to 4.1 under Win98.
Still having no success in uncompressing .gz files.
All my 31 May log files are in the format of access.may1.gz (one
for each day of the month), along with 2 in ascii form (access.may
and access.may.0 are located in the analo

manually uncompress them, it works OK when I run Analog from command
line, but when I run it from cgi script it fails with the following

I did what you suggest with no problems, either with gzip or analog, but
still can't use the UNCOMPRESS feature without crashing the computer. As
the files uncompress manually, I cannot think why they would not do so

I've tried to isolate them but haven't found any way of doing so. Do you
know of an alternative unzipper which would work with the UNCOMPRESS
command under W98SE with .gz files? This could give us a clue.

Hey all, I am running ananlog 3.3 on a FreeBSD system. It works fine, but I can not analyse certain
dates of log files. If I run gzip -cd [logfilename] from the freebsd command line, it works fine, but if I try to set it does not work.. here are the first couple lines

Yes, it does not matter where you put the UNCOMPRESS command. You need
to have a command-line unzip program that c

There's /bin/gzip and symlink to it from /usr/bin/gzip, both works.

Just trying to make sure, do you have in your analog.cfg:
UNCOMPRESS "/bin/gzip -cd"
?
If you only have there "gzip -cd" then change it to the above and it will
work.

There is indeed system-wide config /etc/analog.cfg with line
UNCOMPRESS *.gz,*.Z "gzip -cd"
After changing that to /bin/gzip, it started to work. Thanks for your

But I would expect my local config overwrites system-wide config - isn't
this compress problem something like a bug?

i have 2 logfiles:
/path/to/logfile/access.log
/path/to/logfile/access.log.old.gz
now i used the following line in the config file:
logfile /path/to/logfile/access.log*
so that all logfiles - compressed as well -
I was almost sure that any command-line options or alternate configuration file (i.e.
`analog +g/tmp/myconfig.txt`) would override the global (non-mandatory) "analog.cfg".
I based that on the fact that the global analog.cfg contains

this the gzip.exe can unzip .zip files or those that were zipped with say winzip. Can
5.30 read them also? In other words, is there a specific gzip format that it has to
be. Or if I rename the files with .gz will

Yeah I tried it and it did not work. So I painfully unzipped all my log files (thank
god they were just monthly) and used gzip on them. Whats weird though is that when I
zipped them with winzip, gzip could unzip them. However, analog could not.
