After checking the way-back machine; the answer is to set the menu to search
the field to which it is attached.
Because menus are natively distinct, you’ll get one listing for each name, and
new records are automatically added to the menu.

I'm with you there, the limited discovery we are using right now is LANDesk
for Windows servers. That was for our POC.

Jason,
I agree with you.
Unfortunately I'm in a position where I'm not in charge or involved in
developing or providing input on the process side.
I'm just on the configuration/development side and we've done a basic POC
concept and they like it and want to roll out. I just fear I might be
You are not the only person that is disappointed in the change of
direction. BMC has reassured on the BMC Communities, even after the
Innovation Suite split, that they are committed to continuing to move AR
System forward as a (development) platform. Hopefully they have some big
surprises for us
Ok. So no “mobile-friendly” version of ARS then? I was so looking forward to
converting my forms to where they were actually usable on phones and tablets.

A note on version 9.5... I don't have insider info or anything but I doubt
we will ever see 9.5 (unless that number gets reused). 9.5 was going to be
AR System with Innovation Suite. After the 9.5 beta a year ago it was
decided that Innovation Suite would be its own product and not available to
Well, the purpose of a CMDB is to track your system hardware. Ideally,
that happens through discovery. Most discovery platforms require root
access to servers and such. That can be a significant hurdle for some
places. Alternatively, manual entry of CI data can be done. Data

Rick,
Can you elaborate a little bit on the “system data” bit regarding the CMDB?
I’m currently running on just ARS. I hear that ARS 9.5 is supposed to come
with CMDB. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to be able to do with it.
Thanks!

Having worked with the CMDB for some years, I can tell you that the biggest
obstacles to a successful rollout are having access to system data and the
quality of that data. That's where 80% of the work will be.

I think there are two things to look at here. There is the the tool and how
to use it, but using an AM system is such an uphill battle if you don't
have process and dedicated staff to make AM work. If your organization
doesn't have solid AM practices/policy/procedures, that is probably the

I believe there are other sessions that may be of interest as well
including the usual Wednesday evening with BMC folks.

I absolutely recommend Victoria Schmidt and her folks at CyberTrain including
Lenny Warren at RMI. I went thru in-house training with them at a company I
worked for and they did a great job! See http://cybertraininc.com.

Hello All,
I'm working at a company that is looking to build out and enhance our Asset
Management and CMDB utilization, potentially adding discovery later.
They are setting aside a training budget and want to train our in house
staff properly.
What would you all recommend as the best training
Hi,
Search menus are natively distinct, so there is no need to use Direct SQL.
