I've wanted to try Inguz for a while but one of the things putting me
off was that I heard early on it broke gapless playback. Does anyone
know if that's still the case?

Cool - thanks for the info, I may give it a shot!

Inguz will run on newer Macs but there is no installer package for Mac
last I checked. I was able to follow some instructions posted by muski
on the Inguz forum that use the console to run the install. Certainly
not the easiest way to do things - but you get used to it. Search the

Is there any sonic degradation (ie bit loss) when using the Smart Gain
feature?

I am currently using a Logitech Squeezebox's digital coax output to feed
a dCS Delius/Purcell combo 44.1 uncompressed files. I am considering an
upgrade to the Transporter (for use as a transport).
Setting aside the other reasons for using a Transporter over a
Squeezebox for a moment, I would
Correct, this is the purpose a word clock. It eliminates jitter that
would otherwise be introduced by an s/pdif interface.

The specs for the Transporter include the following:
Jitter (standard deviation):
11ps at oscillator (intrinsic jitter)
17ps at DAC
35ps at S/PDIF receiver
I am wondering how slaving the Transporter to the dCS combo would
theoretically affect those numbers?

no (yes) . :)
Technically there is bit loss if you reduce the volume from max - which
is what ReplayGain normally does.
However, if you are asking will I hear anything bad if I use
Some of the forum leaders are a bit dismissive of SB, and it rarely
mentioned.
But it is a good, informative forum.

Well, in a clock-linked configuration I would expect the jitter to be
determined by the clock in your DAC - so what are those specs?
(the cable that transmits the clock from DAC to TP is also part of the
equation... but since this can be implemented using properly suitable
coax and BNC connectors

12 : the sonic improvments depend on the suplly of the digital part of
your system. The better is the supply the less noticeable is the

DAC and the wordclock reduced the benefit of the wordclock

I'm still struggling with the whole on-the fly decompression of
lossless formats causes jitter nonsense on that thread you just made
me read :)
Another 15 minutes of my life wasted.
I'm personally happy that there is NO audible difference between
replaying lossless vs PCM on SB hardware.

The clock quality of the source device is irrelevant in a word clock

To properly leverage Transporter's internal clocks, you would need to
be using Transporter's internal DAC.

I'm not sure what would cause this, but there are a some reset
procedures that we can try which might help.
1. In Squeezecenter, go to settings, then player settings, and click
Reset player preferences
2. Press and hold power until the unit resets. Then immediately when

The volume control (and replay gain) are handled in 24 bits by the
squeezebox. This means that bit errors (interpolation, not really
errors) happen well below the SNR of the DAC.

I just bought this DAC and had a couple of questions. As I only intend
to use my integrated amp to control volume, is there an optimal volume
setting for both the SB2 and Lavry? I thought I read somewhere that
the Lavry can have its volume controls defeated. Does it matter?
As for the three
Well, I'd love it if you'd hook dish network up to the transporter and
see if it is compatible with the digital output of dish.. Please.. :~)
