In your Library/PrefernecePanes folder in Finder, you should find the
file Squeezebox.prefPane. Right click on it and select show package

Im fairly new to the concept of running S/PDIF out of the SB to a DAC.
So far, Im really pleased with the results.
Im thinking ahead to the SB Touch and Im contemplating installing the
Touch on a wall. This would make my S/PDIF (RCA/coaxial) cable run back
to the DAC quite long
Hello to you the Audiophiles.
Did you try SqueezeSlave Asio ?
Did you try Andy's Minimalist Audio Player (wasapi or ASIO) ?
I tried both and a lot of others like cPlay/cMP, Foobar, Winamp, ...

I have a SPDIF cable running from my big stereo rig in the basement, to
the home theatre setup in the living room, so not quite 25 feet, but
probably 16-18. Works fine with no issues. If you use a good quality
RG6 cable, you should be fine.
High frequency roll off is the only mechanism that I
I didn't measure to the foot, but my run of coax has to be close to 25'
from the Squeezebox to the DAC. (15' long run in the basement joists
plus 4' or 5' in the room at each end for connections to the respective
devices.)
The signal is rock solid at the DAC. I previously had a short run with
The maximum cable length in the S/PDIF specification is 10 meters, or
about 39 feet.
Just as a test, I once ran S/PDIF output through the double-shielded
RG6 cable TV coaxial cables (temporarily disconnected from the CATV
system) from the Squeezebox in my living room to a DAC in my main
Go to Shoutcast and use their search function and click on the
broadband button and you will see stations that are streaming at
reasonably high bitrates. Quite a few at 192kb or better but it all
depends on your taste in music :-)

I see it more in terms of evolution. Vinyl records have proved the best

likely to prove the best way of delivering quality digital music.

To all y'all:
I see a few sites selling vinyl. Are the prices for some MFSL and
Nautilus recordings for real?
Thanks.

I stopped using an audio CD player at least five years ago, when I got

I've been getting a lot of music from an online music retailer called
MusicZeit. They specialize in electronic music by independent artists.
The only other way to get this music in the US is via international
retailers and paying import prices. Lately, that option has become
quite expensive

Exactly
The only one from the holy trinity, Red Book, lived long enough
because of the simple fact of being first in bringing completely new
physical form of music. Not speaking of audio quality, it was quite
revolutionary. I think DVD-A

SACD and DVD-A accidentlally had better quality (potential) but they
were invented specifically because they had DRM. Even today, SACD is
essentially unrippable due to its silly DSD technique.
And of course,
I think that I've played a CD twice in the past year 2 years (since
starting this SB journey).
It's reflex to just rip it first at this point, if I'm going that
route.
