just installed the latest slimserver (squeezecenter) last night and it
re-codes flac 24/96 to flac 24/48 on the fly perfectly.
FYI, the latest slimserver added support for resampling on the fly.

If your amp has a volume control, then (generally speaking) you should
not use the attenuation jumpers in the transporter, but use that volume
control instead. This will give you the best signal to noise.

If the psu was directly powering some audio circuitry, one would
typically try to eliminate as much impedance as possible. However, in
this case, the squeezebox has an internal psu, which imho will do a
good job of removing any noise on the external power input.

. Whilst the 'brain compensation' also has a strong effect
here, the physical properties will change over time. The most evident
of this is the gradual softening of the rubber surrond on a speaker,
which (to me) seems to improve bass resonse and clarity over time.

It should work fine. Most 240V stuff is designed to work at 220-240V.
If you want to get technical, it might have slightly lower peak power,
due to the lower peak voltage.

should compare transporter out with its internal clock vs external dac
out with its clock feeding back to the transporter. i.e. the clock
should always be in the same box as the dac.

OK, so I'll have one to play with. SMD I guess, so SC947-02 unless you
want to advise otherwise. Most of my audio is at 44.1 so it needs to
work well from 32 kHz.

Yes the formats are the same except for the electrical connection, and
the channel status bit:
spdif uses 75 Ohm coax (often terminated with non 75 Ohm RCA plugs) or
optical.
aes/ebu uses 110 Ohm balanced interconnect with xlr plugs.

I believe 88kHz and 96kHz support is possible with the current hardware,
it is a matter of upgrading the firmware to support it. There is an
FR/bug on this apparently.

that maximum squeezebox volume is
equal to maximum normal listening volume, and then use the squeezebox to
adjust volume on a day to day basis. If you plan to have a party or
something, then you can re-adjust the volume on your amp for the
occaision.

Without having looked into this, I'd have thought that anything that
plays on a pc, could be converted to wav. Worst case this might
involve hooking the digital out to the digital in, but I would expect
there's some software way to do the equivalent.

that the artifacts introduced by upsampling help to 'even out' errors
