Thanks Rosemarie for finding this. I think it would be great if they would do
it and find the funding for somebody(s) to transcribe as it’s a huge job.
But... I don’t want to discourage our group from doing some now because of a
couple reasons. 1. Who knows if they will even get the funding. 2.
to indicate this project might be under
the same /similar leadership under the execution/direction of BPARPD.

OK, this explains when I met with Mike Hall from Family Search and he said
that they are negotiating with the Azorean Government BUT they WON'T allow
indexing. OK, so I see they want to do it themselves. The announcement,
however, is just that. They aren't saying if they need volunteers or money
I recall something about the governor’s wife taking over indexing on her
terms. Joao Ventura had the info and shared it with the recent workshop in
Escalon. He may know more.

family was there back to at least 1600. He lived on Rua do Anjo de Guarda,
near the little chapel. The house was torn down and more houses were built on

His marriage record said that his father, Manuel Pimentel Andrade was 'away
in Brazil'. The CCA site has passport records starting at 1875 (of course

Matriz and the other half have no mention of the word Matriz, they simply
use the name of the church. The only other location that they do this is

While searching for relatives in Norte Grande, Sao Jorge, I can across two
different men from Sao Miguel and their wives having children:
1892 Image #9: Constancia born to Joao Silveira Brazil and his wife Constancia
dos Anjos. Joao is listed as being a native of Sao Jose de Ponta
Just got back from Sao Miguel. Thanks to taxi-tour driver, we found family
still
living on the same hill (lomba) in the same small village where they have lived
for generations. Driver found someone to get me in the church and locked
cemetery gate. I can't speak Portuguese so he spoke for me.

You won't be able to find information on your ancestor in Sao Miguel, until
you find his birth date (or approximate) and freguesia (village) on Sao
Miguel. Immigration information helps too, as others have suggested. If
you don't have his freguesia, you'll need to do a lot of paper
