auto filing for VM

2006-09-22 Thread Robert P. Goldman
I have a lot of VM folders for my email, and VM provides the capability to set up an alist for filing. So I've added a mail-folder field to my BBDB database, and I use the following function to set up VM's auto-folder alist. If the following isn't redundant with other approaches to the same

question about using BBDB in spam-laden days

2004-08-02 Thread Robert P. Goldman
With the rise of the spam plague, I've been finding it difficult to figure out how to configure BBDB's auto-address snarfing. My problem is the following: if I use bbdb-ignore-most-messages, then I get practically nothing. But if I use bbdb-ignore-some-messages, I end up with a BBDB clogged

question about names for mailing lists

2004-04-30 Thread Robert P. Goldman
I'm having a somewhat annoying problem where a mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) seems to have many print names (I'm not sure of the right jargon for the thing that goes here [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Is there any way I can tell BBDB to stop trying to rename (or add an AKA for) this address? Also, I

2004-01-15 Thread Robert P. Goldman
Yes, the KDE address book would be another good candidate. Particularly because it syncs with a palm. I know that Jamie once looked into doing palm-BBDB sync, but didn't like the Palm format. I never quite followed his rationale, since things like Outlook successfully do a lossy sync with the

mail aliases

2003-11-10 Thread Robert P. Goldman
Actually, there are pro's and cons to the way BBDB does mail aliases. On the pro side, you get to see who will receive your email. On the con side, the mail alias is stripped away and lost. This means that you can't do anything clever anywhere else with filing the email (based on addressees),

request for BBDB-INITIALIZE advice...

2003-07-29 Thread Robert P. Goldman
This is probably a very simple problem. BUT... I took Vladimir's advice to use BBDB-INITIALIZE to get things going. When I do (bbdb-initialize 'supercite) this has the following effect: (assq 'supercite bbdb-init-forms) = (supercite (add-hook (quote sc-load-hook) (quote bbdb-insinuate-sc)))

bbdb-ignore-these-addresses

2003-07-22 Thread Robert P. Goldman
Is there any way to tell BBDB to ignore specific from addresses? There are a bunch of auto-reply programs (e.g., from a bug-report or orders system) that persist in sending me email that purports to be from me (in terms of the name string), but with their email address. I'd like BBDB to stop

minor bug bbdb-copy-record

1995-04-04 Thread Robert P. Goldman
I was using bbdb-copy-record to create a new record based on an old record for someone in Australia. I found when editing the phone numbers that the phone numbers in the old record were rejected as unparseable and bbdb would accept only US-format phone numbers. If I get a chance, I will try to
