Here are the preliminary results of the 2007 Hamilton Christmas Bird
Count, held on December 26th. 2007.
On a cool -4 degrees C, relatively calm but foggy morning, 85
Long overdue, a Snowy Owl has finally shown up in York Region this winter.
Keith Dunn found (and photographed) one on Ravenshoe Road Saturday afternoon
around 4.20 pm. It was west of Lake Drive, perched on a TV antenna on the
north side of Ravenshoe Rd., which runs east-west along the
Saw the Townsend's Solitaire this morning (Sunday, 6 Jan) shortly after 9. It
was initially perched on the wire just north of #4 Millbrook Cres. It then
moved up to the top of the tree behind that same house where it remained for a
good five minutes.

At 1000 hours this morning a single Barnacle Goose was seen in the
company of many Canada Geese on Lakeshore Road west of Tufford Road in
Niagara by Kayo Roy and others doing the Mid-winter Waterfowl Count. .
The bird was not seen at 1300 hours, and there were no Canada Geese present.
Dear Fellow Birders,
Today while on the Mid-winter Waterfowl Count I came across an
apparent Bufflehead x Hooded Merganser hybrid at the east side of
Bronte Harbour. It was seen for about 40 minutes immediately east of
the harbour in with a flock of Greater Scaup, Common Goldeneye, and
Bufflehead.
Sparrow seekers at Erie Beach :
In spite of many pairs of eyes today, the Harris's Sparrow was not re-located
to my knowledge.
I would be happy to be told otherwise.
Mother Nature bestowed a night-long rain on this area, and washed away what
little snow we had.

After reading Irene's post, I would just like to say that the Harris'
Sparrow is still there. I saw it today at 4:00. It was hanging out in the
fence row that juts out into the field. It associates exclusively with the
White-crowns.

Today on the waterfowl count, Rob Dobos, Dave Don and I had a total of 5
King Eiders on the Stoney Creek Lakeshore. There were 2 females at Green
Road and 2 1st year males and 1 female seen from Fifty Point Conservation
Area.

Hi All,
My wife, her father partner and I went to Merritt Island in Welland to
find the blue morph Snow Goose. We were unsuccessful but observed many
species while we walked the lower trail to Woodlawn Road. We returned to
the parking area along the paved path.

Today's walk occurred during some thick fog in the late morning hours,
which limited the distance at which we could see. We started at the Rouge Hill
GO Train station and worked our way west to Highland Creek (2 km). We
encountered a small flock of American Tree Sparrows with the company
