Aaron Allensen is unable to get on his server this morning and asked
me to let folks know that his rare visitor, the Black-throated Sparrow
was NOT spotted this morning in his garden. He will be keeping an eye
out for it and we will re-post if there is another sighting on his
property.

Loggerhead Shrike, at about 10:30 am, was in the
same general area feasting on grasshoppers.
There were about 15 Eastern Bluebirds, 4 Eastern Phoebes, one imm.
Bald Eagle seen today too.

A single Brant has been evident on the east pier in Port Burwell for the last 2
or 3 days. It is taking grass from the edges of the pier. It was there this
morning at 8am and still there when I left.
No sign of the Black-tailed Gull in evidence this morning at that time.

Big Otter Creek - first here observed this season.

with many gulls including Little Gulls and Bonapartes.

Each recent morning has been heard and seen a pair of Tufted Titmice
in the same general area.
A pair of Carolina wrens has also been active.

underwing as shown in the handout. This was a quick observation as it
disappeared over the hill top to the north. It did not seem to have

Today, 22 March 2008, at 4:30 pm was spotted a Male Baltimore Oriole
in Port Burwell at 3 Bridge St. in Port Burwell.
Spring was officially here a day or two ago, but this proves it.

Today, two Whimbrels were seen foraging and preening at the mouth of
Big Otter Creek in Port Burwell.
One of these two is slightly crippled in one leg, and this bird was
seen as early as last Saturday on the Municipal East Beach in Port
Burwell by Ron

previous observation, it is likely to return to the other one.

The harbour area is easy to locate in this small town. There is
grin patch on the bill, and was
too big to be a Ross's Goose.

The Provincial Park is on the west side of the town - cross the bridge

The Otter Valley Naturalists and friends did the Christmas Bird Count on
December 16th, 2012.
This count is relatively new, so stats don't mean too much, but our species
count is in-line with previous years with 84 species.

All Birders and CBC Participants,
Here is a summary attached to today for the 2013 OVN CBC - this was the 8th OVN
CBC. Although the total species count is down somewhat from last year, we had
some wonderful birds appear for the count. Highlight birds were Snowy Owl (1),
several sparrow species

Burwell today at 2pm before taking flight and heading west.
