Hi Everyone
Viewing conditions along the Ottawa River were excellent this morning and I
observed two adult male Barrow's Goldeneyes, one west of Britannia Pier
(photo) and a second male at the top of Deschenes Rapids. I was watching
these individuals as Jon watched the Barrow's Goldeneye's at Shir
Currently viewing an adult male Barrows from the dyke at Shirleys Bay. Approx
200 m south of Haycock Island, looking W. Access to the dyke is restricted to
OFNC members and you must call the DND for permission beforehand (613-991-5740).

4 Barrow's Goldeneyes spotted moments ago on Lodge Road in Barrhaven (2
females, 2 males).
Visited 4184 looking for the grey partridges, none were spotted. I did however
see a flick of about 15 snow buntings. They landed in the driveway and quickly
flew off.

The male BAGO persists, now 200 m south of Hurdman Bridge (Hwy 417) on the
Rideau River with COGO, and 2 Glaucous Gulls were 40 m and 300 m north of

It seems like we're having an influx of these this winter. My wife and I
observed a single male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE among half a dozen or so COMMON
GOLDENEYE near the ice on Riopelle Island, just south of Bate Island, on the
Ottawa River. This is likely the same one that hangs around Remic Rap
Fraser Derraugh and myself were at Strathcona Park this morning (8:30am). Near
the shore was one of the male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE that have been around the area

Spent the morning birding the Ottawa River from Shirley's Bay to Remic Rapids.
As reported earlier by Mark Gawn there were 200+ male Black Scoter off Andrew
Haydon Park along with a few small flocks of White-winged and Surf Scoter. At

Birded along the Ottawa River from Dick Bell Park to Remic Rapids Lookout this
morning. Visibility was excellent and I observed 2 Red-throated Loons, 1 off
Dick Bell Park and the other off Deschenes Lookout. At Remic Rapids I observed
a male Barrow's Goldeneye feeding in the rapids.

Did a late afternoon check along the Ottawa River between Shirley's Bay
and Deschenes Rapids. Overall the river is frozen except for a few open
leads. At Deschenes Rapids there was a female and male Barrow's Goldeneye at
the top end of the rapids. Also present were 330+ Common

My Dad and I were able to locate the male Barrow's Goldeneye near the
Rideau Tennis Club yesterday. It was there at around 12:30 p.m. It was
with about 10 Common Goldeneyes and 10 Hooded Mergansers. There was
also 1 Bufflehead and 1 Surf Scoter.

Hi Ontbirders,
The Barrow's Goldeneye in Vanier was still there as of 3 p.m. today. It
was in a small flock of Common Goldeneye in between the Tennis Club and
the Cummings Bridge. There were also 5 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Surf Scoter
and 1 Bufflehead.

Ottawa River off Lemieux Island, just east of Remic Rapids. This is probably
