When is the blind handy man get together going to take place this year?
Is it going to be in Dallas? And how long does it last?

Sadly, the Blind Handyman / BlindLikeMe gatherings are every other year,
so far, and they just had one so you will have to wait a while. However,
they do last for a month and it took about six weeks after the last one
before everyone was out of jail. And they are held in Houston. Although,
Dan, I believe they just celebrated the second or possibly third convention,
and if I'm not mistaken, they are annually.

Hello Everyone,
I just had a new compressor put into my refrigerator and now I notice the
seal is not tight. I am careful to push
the door completely
shut each time. Certainly the seal needs to be replaced. How does one go
about doing this and I would need

Well, after weeks of work, the floor is still not done. As a refresher,
we purchased the pre-finished oak hardwood floor and carried ten 60 pound
boxes up the four flights of steps and along the courtyard and stacked
them in the living room to acclimatize.
Then we moved most of the furniture
OK, I have a question about laying the hardwood floor. You can't use the
floor stapler on the first couple of courses since you are too close to
the wall. I have read about face nailing the first couple of courses.
You can try and face nail the first course very close to the edge and have
A few months ago my wife accidentally hit the side of a spoon handle with a
sharp knife. This left a burr that would give one a serious cut. She was going
to toss it but I put it aside for a future small project and today I worked on
it.
I first used emery paper with some cutting oil to slowly
Hi Rita,
There is one thing that you may wish to try before replacing.
I have a friend that has a used appliance shop. When he gets a unit that has
a seal that is not torn but not tight he does a simple repair. He First
cleans then pulls the seal away from the door and heats it with a hair
Hi Ray,
It has been cleaned, but there is a gap or small floppy area about six
inches long. I'll have to wait to find out the make and if possible the
model.
However if I ask for this help I'll be instructed all over the place that
so and so is a friend and can
do this job. I wish people
Hi Rita
This is a way you could do it.
Refrigerator Door Gasket Replacement (or How to replace a door seal)
Some people think that installing a refrigerator gasket is a difficult
job. It could be somewhat strenuous but with a few tips it's definitely
doable. Most
of the time, gaskets come in
Basically what you have said is exactly how it was done in the old days. The
first row is nailed next to the wall on the face and at a 45 in the tongue.
Yes pilot holes both places and use a nail set for both places. Once a person
got the hang of it you would nail the rest of it without the
Thank you Lenny I could lose nothing by trying this. Rita

Just a note. The one I did the door warped out of shape so I had to take the
door off and lay it flat on the floor and snug the screws down kind of like
lug nuts on a car. Doing opposite ones back and forth and across.

I thought it would be a hardwear store. I guess I could call Sears. It
worked fine till the guys put in the new compresser.

You should not have to do any cutting it
Thank you Ray. hmmm I am concerned about tightening screws after having
sealed even part of the gasket. I am rethinking the cost of a job well
done Vrs. an amature or wildly unskilled one. Smile. Rita

Hi Ray,
Just wondering why you are set a day ahead in your date line? Are you
anxious for Valentine's Day to come? Smile. Rita

Howdy Folks,
I have an old kitchen table and chair set which I'd love to refinish. The
table-top is covered with formica laminate. Anyone know how I can most
efficiently remove this laminate? The kitchen set isn't anything worth
writing home about... But, it has a sentimental value to it. I
Hi Timothy,
You might consider purchasing an FM Transmitter.
I'm not sure exactly how it works, but apparently, the sound is transmitted
to your stereo to a channel on the FM dial that is not being used or
something like that.
The other possibility, is to go to Circuit City, and see if you
Ron,
Thanks very much. I guess you have sort of answered part of my question.
Do you just need to face nail that first row, and the rest get nailed on
the 45 through the tongue?
If I face nail and 45 nail the first row, do I need to worry about the
neumatic floor stapler pushing that first

Put your iron on low to medium heat, if you're afraid the plastic will melt,
lay some paper on the surface, start at the corner and work along an edge and
you'll find that the heat breaks down the blue perfectly.
Cut a new sheet of laminate, a little bit bigger all-around than the surface
Face nail the first course as near the wall as possible. You may even wish
to rip the groove off to get that bit closer and still have good wood to
nail through and not split or damage the surface.
The second course you can nail through the tongue on an angle with a hammer.
You are correct,
Often heat will reactivate the contact cement making it easier to peal off
the laminate. A putty knife to work under it and an iron to heat the
laminate. You may need quite a bit of heat so might want to iron through
something like a towel. Can't guarantee this method but it has worked for
Larry you sure got a deal there. Smile.
