My mistake - iLBC of course. Anyway, know what the codec is and how/
why to invoke it (lossy link), but you don't have to actually invoke
it to know how it works unlike most of the other newer features.

Yes you really do have to have 7961 (or better) phones for the new
blueprint.
7961 is a fine model and does support Globalization/Localization and +
dialing
Also certainly the cheapest model to come by that does support those
things.

Make sure your CCM instances are defined in IOS with ver 5.0.1 or
higher.
They will register with a lower version - but they won't engage RSVP.
If that fails, reboot both HQ and BR1 routers and try again.

Unfortunately no. In fact the XLite SIP softphone can't do hardly
anything that a hardware SIP phone can do (softkeys, etc).
BTW - eBay typically has 7961's available for roughly 150USD. All you
need is 3 of those and 2 7960's for our labs.

Loopback on HQ rtr also needs ip pim sparse-dense or dense-mode
depending on how you have multicast setup. Ingress IP int is FastE,
egress IP int is LB, that will allow IOS to send RTP to T1 trunk.
