I used it to import 12.3 Gig of log files over the weekend - it took a long

When I have had this problem, I usually create another partition with the
data I want to keep, install the OS to the partition that has no data on it,
boot into the OS and your other partition, which would be seen as a 2nd
drive, will contain all your data. Back up from there.

I think that you should look into getting a ZIP drive. Zip drives come with a boot utility to load drivers at the DOS prompt. That said, you can definitely assign a drive letter to a CDRW using the driver and the MSCDEX command, but I'm not sure how it's done and I'm sure it's not fun.

Ummm... what kind of OS are you trying to extract from? I'm pretty sure that a win98 disk will not mount an NTFS hard drive. You're going to have to find an NTFS boot disk. I think that you can use those 4 disk that win2k comes on and boot into the recovery console in order to access the volume
