have you been through Raton Pass before? If not try to do it in daytime -- it's pretty spectacular. If you are interested in NM history it is worth getting off 25 in Pecos to take a quick gander at the old pueblo. It's right on the access road as I recall, a detour of maybe three miles.

The wife and I did some AWESOME touring around the state when we first got together- split it into 4 and did one a year or so- and I'm born and raised NM (born in the house I used to live in, heh!)- I've seen a good bit of what the state has to offer, not that it doesn't change, or it's not good
